The most family friendly group ever! Love this place and their homemade pies and cakes by Angie are to die for!

I have tried this restaurant at least a dozen times. Last time, I ordered a cold turkey sandwich. It was put under the heat lamp in the kitchen to the point where the cheese was melted, the lettuce and tomato were warm and limp, and the bun was getting hard and stale. I did not complain. I picked at the sandwich and ate what I could, which was not much. When I went to the register to pay, my server, Katy, asked me why I didn't eat the sandwich. After I told her, she looked at my plate and agreed with me. Another server - the sister of the owner - got loud and mouthy about how that's the best sandwich on the menu. I have never been so humiliated and embarrassed in my life. I gave the young woman at the register cash to cover the bill and some extra for Katy, my server. I went back several months later to try again and I was told that the young woman at the register told everyone that I did not pay my bill. She stole the money and lied. I did not order food and I left. I'll never go back again. I'm not bitter or angry. I only went back because Katy is a very good server. Sorry Katy. read more

MEH.... very generic mom n pop diner.. Not much of a variety of restaurants in this Hooterville. The hostess tends to leave the register to do TO GO orders and no one else seems capable of seating customers. Salad bar is very small. Lettuce, tomatoes cucumbers..dressing... meh. Overpriced Friday fish buffet. You can have it with( $25) or without crab legs. $15. We went with the SENIOR chopped steak dinners. Basic fare. read more

The Whistle Stop is a restaurant with a lot of local color. Clearly those in the restaurant were locals. We had heard about the restaurant and the items on the menu to satisfy any taste. The menu was big enough to give all members a great selection. We saw the Muffuletta on the menu and had to have it. Our waitress said it was good and very large, enough for 2-4 people. We plan to return to taste others items off the menu. read more

Ordered eggs over easy and they came out over hard. The fruit was canned and not fresh. It was way too expensive for canned fruit. That being said, the waitress was super friendly and kept the coffee coming. I have heard good things from the locals so I would try this place again. I know this is a local favorite but I can't figure out why. Staff is very friendly, but the food is just kind of bland and the menu is somewhat limited. Even the salad bar is very small and limited and the dressings taste watered down. I visited with my mother who enjoyed her meal but I was not impressed. I guess I would go again if my mom wanted to return but I really can't recommend this one. read more

I've been eating vegetarian since last November and my favorite sandwich is a Reuben made with beets in place of corned beef. I've eaten the amazing portobello mushroom sandwich and veggie omlettes but today I asked if they would make me a beet Reuben. Of course, they did and it was delicious! Hot and cheesy. Perfect crunch. Homemade blueberry - peach pie for dessert. The food and the people there are awesome!! Very accommodating of different dietary requests. Ok so I almost didn't stop here after the last few reviews that were low. But I am so glad I ignored them! It's a cute little place, friendly staff & the food was good. Homemade vegetable soup- we had blts that are hard to screw up but they were good. I was not a fan of the fries but I like think fries. And my daughter had fried chicken- SO GOOD! We added a pie each of the homemade cherry & pumpkin pie that were worth the calories I just gained! Stop and enjoy this cute little place, it's worth it! read more

The food is pretty good, nice salad bar, good fish, great monte cristo. Some of the servers are very friendly and a couple are "iffy" with their attitudes. One of them got her feathers ruffled when we made a legitimate complaint. A couple times we had a waitress that seemed to just forget about us and never offered coffee refills. We pretty regularly order fried chicken for take out and it is by far the best for miles. It is not as good as Rip's in Ladd but it is darn close and you just can't justify driving 60 miles for fried chicken every month. You can get a quarter or a half but we always get the half orders as the leftovers are also great. Choice of potato, fries are best. Soup or salad included - always order the soup, even if the choice sounds crazy - the soups are always good and often excellent. Who in the hell ever heard of stuffed pepper soup? Tastes just like stuffed peppers but in a soup - awesome. I believe they have a beer batter and a dry batter but we only get the beer batter. If you want fried chicken, and don't want to drive to Ladd and wait in line, this is hands down a great option. read more

This little place has one of the best rib-eye steaks I've ever had, We have a cottage a few miles from here and we make a point of stopping by for this steak as often as we can. Back when I worked for a big company in downtown Chicago, I had a corporate card and lots of leniency on my expense reports, so I've tried many of the big steak joints many times. This rib-eye they serve here matches and beats most of the expensive well known steak restaurants. I'm not sure what they do that is different from other Mom and Pop places but it is phenomenal. You can order the rib-eye as it comes or increase the size by the inch for a small extra charge per inch. The rest of the food here is good. I've never had a bad meal when I do decide to have something other than the steak. The fried chicken is pretty damn good too. Once I did get my fried appetizer platter with a couple still partially frozen fried mushrooms. I got over it once they brought me a fully cooked platter to replace it. The pace is definitely a little slower here as is the pace at every other business in a smallish town. read more

Well it's waitress she was rolled her eyes made my family feel like we were inconvenience her when asked her for things no refills! Plates left in front us while we chatted for a bit. then to top it off she got into agruement with another waitress right in front of us.
