    Chicken sliders and fries
    Z B.

I have been going to White Castle for a long time, and this location is usually the one I go to! The service is pretty good. The staff are quick with the orders. They are friendly too. I had no problem with anyone at this location. The food is pretty good as well. I am a big fan of the chicken sliders. The chicken is tender. I like the fries and the onion rings here too! The onion rings are crispy, and the fries have a good taste! All in all, this is a good White Castle location. I will be back here.

Tried the new cheese curds and the container was less than half full. $5 for a medium. Maybe that's standard? Maybe they ran out?

Ordered online, food was ready when I arrived. Tried the new cheese curds which were good, but the container was less than half full when I paid $5 for a medium. Maybe that's standard? Maybe they ran out and didn't want to make more.

The non-meaty goodness of the Impossible Burger!

So their new Impossible Burger is so delicious I had to stop for 2 of them at 2 different locations 2 days in a row! This review is solely based on the Countryside location since this is the one I have a product picture of. I like this specific White Castle, as it is often the one I visit in the middle of the night when I am going from one hospital to the next during my Call shift. I almost always get the same thing: 2 veggie burgers with sweet thai, pickles and microwaved onions(other onions are from the grill). Those little guys are so warm and tasty! It's great to have a veggie option in the middle of the night! The staff is always friendly, although it can often take up to 10 minutes to give me my food. Their fries are okay, but I'm not a fan of hard crinkle fries. I'm still waiting to try their cheese curds, but at 660 calories for a small I can't see wasting my daily on something like that. But oh, those Impossible Burgers are lovely! For those who don't know, they are a plant based patty that actually sizzles and turns red while cooking. The texture is also similar to meat, if my recollection from 18 years ago serves me right. They aren't the prettiest, but they are damn tasty! Each one includes smoked cheddar, grilled onions, and pickles. These aren't the same onions on a normal slider, either. They are thick and plump, and are cooked on the same separate grill as the burger. Each are 4 superb ounces of non-meat goodness. At $1.99 a piece, they are totally worth it as other places that serve a larger Impossible Burgers are places like Kuma's and these go for $15 and up for a 6.0 ounce!(thanks to Michaelangelo for the pic of the Kuma's menu!). Will I return? Oh Ya! And probably after work today!

Now as much as Portillo's has disappointed me since they sold out, they still give a decent amount for the price plus add on's. And they don't over charge for a simple tamale like this place does. You can see by the dimensions of the veal in the sandwich that it only added "some" meat flavor., same for the sauce and cheese. I basically ordered a small flavored bread sandwich. There is a reason this joint hasn't scaled past their lil storefront on ol' plank road in many decades. Also the woman taking my order over the phone has zero etiquette.

We walked in and were welcomed, the staff is very nice. It feels family owned and friendly. The actual space was clean and the separate dining area is a good size. The actual beef was on the bland side, and the giardiniera wasn't spicy at all. It looked like it's mostly celery. The fries were nice and crispy, but we probably won't go back for a beef.

We used patronize the one at the corner of 75th and Cass in Darien, IL but sadly several years ago the place started to slide down hill (all the tables had food on them, trash cans overflowing, angry cashiers) and we hadn't been back since. Today on a whim we stopped at this in Countryside and SURPRISE it was spacious and the staff were friendly, as if they were happy to be at work. The only thing holding them back from 5 stars was the cleanliness of the tables. Those pesky little crunches from their batter were on all the tables. Good news is we will be back and maybe there will be an "upgrade" in their future.

That alone was disappointing, but it just got worse from there. We ended up paying a lot of money for very small portions that absolutely were not worth the price. Felt like we drove away with barely any food for what we spent. The final straw was the coupon. I had a coupon ready, and at the drive-thru they tell me it can't be used unless you order through the mobile app. No signs, no warning, nothing--just "you can't use it." That's ridiculous, especially when you're already in line and ordering. Between no seafood, overpriced small portions, and unusable coupons at the drive-thru, this place wasted our time and money. Won't be back anytime soon.
