I had lunch at White Columns Restaurant for the first time after living in Ellijay for 8 years. How have I NOT been here before now?! The Vegetable Soup, made in-house everyday, is hearty & delicious. It's also a plus you can choose with or without ground beef. $4.50 gets a bowl & choice of bread. Good cornbread!! The meat and vegetable offerings have something for everyone but there many options available from the menu. I love that the desserts can be chosen as a vegetable preference. The prices are very reasonable and the service was great. The dining area & bathrooms were clean. I Love the hometown feel and atmosphere. My only disappointment was hearing that the Mac & Cheese is Kraft Deluxe and not homemade. read more

Don't sleep on this place! I've lived in Ellijay for over a year and didn't know this place existed. It's a hidden little gem! We had breakfast and everything was cooked perfectly and our server was very friendly. The menu is basic but our meals were so tasty. We'll definitely be back! read more

We did a River float on the Cartecay River then looked for a place for country cooking for lunch. This was recommended by a gal at the gas station across the way we weren't disappointed! My friend got the 4 veg plate and I got the meat and 4 plate. It changes daily but if you love deviled eggs, be sure to get them as one of your veggies! Just like grandma's! We have driven from LaFayette, Ga just to have a meal at White Columns. The food is good southern cooking at a reasonable price. We have never been disappointed in the food. I love the fried chicken and all the desserts. read more

My husband and I wanted some fried chicken so I looked up "fried chicken" on Yelp and this restaurant came up. We were in the same shopping mall already, so we thought, "why not?" I must admIt, it looked abandoned as we first pulled up, the entrance is actually off to the side. It's quite large on the inside and just about every booth was filled. I always think this is a good sign if the locals always come to a restaurant, and indeed, the waitress called every patron by name. My husband had fried chicken and I tried the fried flounder. This was home cooking at its best! We both had soft drinks, two vegetable servings and the main part of our meal. Our bill for a delicious and filling meal with a 20% tip was under $25.00. It's a family owned business who takes great pride in customer satisfaction. Open for breakfast and lunch, closes at 4 pm. read more

Well when you get out of the car in the parking lot the smell is unreal!! Don't worry when you go inside it is as nasty of the smell outside! Service is sad, the food is right next to being burnt and the can food, boy I have to say if you want to waste your money go here. If you really want some good food I would go to town and have a nice lunch at Cantaberry. You will be glad. So to sum this up if you just want to tear your stomach up eat at the nasty place!!! This is my favorite down home place to eat. Good Country cooking. Great friendly staff, can't beat the prices. They have a daily board menu to pick off of. They have about 4 or 5 different meats to choose from, plus a bunch of different vegetables, and a couple of desserts. Each day something different except for the fried chicken, it's a favorite so it's always on the board. Also they have a regular menu that you can order off of. My husband likes the cheese burgers w/fries. I always get the fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, slaw & corn bread. Only bad thing about our favorite "little hole in the wall" is they are not open for supper! Would recommend highly. read more

We knew this restaurant serves breakfast all day. Arrived around 11 and only one other table occupied. Waitress was very good but food was less than bad. The grits were tasteless and hard and lumpy. The home fries were frozen bits of potato deep fried and tasted fishy. $25 later we will never eat here again. read more

Tucked away in an old shopping center this Ellijay tradition is a Mom and Pop southern classic. Step back in time for a real treat for lunch or dinner. You might want to turn around when you see this place, but that would be your loss. The staple here is awesome meat and three veggies, but they also offer a typical short order menu plus a few southern additions like fried chicken livers. Good old-fashioned southern restaurant. By that I mean that this isn't a place that does a new twist on southern cooking (not that there's anything wrong with that) this spot is the real McCoy. You know you're in an old-school place when they simply have a whiteboard with the mains and sides written on it. When I saw the sweet-tea came in pitchers, I knew we were in business. I went with the fried chicken, although the chicken livers were tempting me. I had squash casserole and slaw for sides, I took cornbread over the roll. The fried chicken was fantastic. Crunchy skin, juicy meat, and well flavored. No overlooked dry chicken here. The squash casserole had some broken saltines sprinkled on top. It was gooey, buttery, and just right. The slaw didn't have too much mayo or sugar in it. The cornbread was very good. Some people like their cornbread sweet, I like it savory. I just like the taste of the cornmeal to come through. Overall, a very fine traditional southern meal. Oh yeah, did I mention all that food cost less than $6 after tax! read more

Good food. Your typical mom and pop pour that fried chicken out of the bag type restraunt. Even with that, if you can make bag and canned foods taste superb; go for it! I don't tend to frequent these kind of restraraunts mostly because the low key atmosphere; but I'm glad I did. read more

This place was tucked into an old shopping center, between a Piggly Wiggly a thrift store, but hey, I thought I'd get a great 'home cooked' meal at this dingy Meat and Veg place. I mean the name alone conjured up visions of an old southern plantation cuisine. My mouth was watering as I scanned over the items on the daily specials. Quick service, we had our drinks delivered and the food was at the table before I could squeeze the lemon in my iced tea. Reality sat in when a scooped up a fork load of mashed potatoes. Yep, instant. The green beans had a Smokey pork flavor, but were probably from a can. The Chuck wagon steak was pretty nasty. School food, probably full of vegetable protein. Gravy was powder type. We also had fried chicken. Eating a bite reminded me of my days growing up in the middle east. Desert's have more moisture than this chicken. The only thing going for this place is the prices, all in we spent about $12 for food and drinks. Staff was friendly. read more

You won't find friendlier waitresses and better service anywhere, and the food is about the best there is in town. Nothing fancy; a cozy, no-frills place, but with low prices and high quality, you can't go wrong. On a whiteboard is a list of the daily specials, usually several meat servings and a long list of vegetable sides. Everything I've had so far was good. The fried chicken is moist inside and golden crispy outside. The vegetables are always fresh and cooked southern-style. In addition to the meat and two, or meat and three, there is a full menu of sandwiches, salads, seafood and steaks! I will say that my waitress told me to try their cheeseburger deluxe and I was blown away! Ask for it "all the way" and you won't need to add a thing. No need for ketchup or mustard, this burger can stand on its own! It was tasty, juicy, seasoned to perfection, and with a wonderful, soft, sesame seed bun that was as fresh as can be. I ordered the onion rings as my side, and they hand dip them in batter, and you won't find better ones anywhere! I'm sold on the burger and onion rings. You just have to try White Columns.
