I've visited White Dog Cafe for brunch, lunch, and happy hour and they were all special in their own right. Service is always friendly, quick, and knowledgeable. Happy Hour is 4-6pm on weeknights, only at the bar. Expect lots of canine themed decor, specifically many framed paintings of pups. There is a heated outdoor tent along with regular outdoor seating during the warmer months. Free parking is offered on the sides or in the back (valet is offered!). Let's get the complaints out of the way first: - service was slow at times (and quick at other times) - a little pricey - the outside is a little on the chilly side. Some more heating would help. I came here numerous times before COVID and this was the first time I visited after the pandemic started. Waking in, nothing changed since the last time I visited. The workers are very friendly and accommodating. The food tasted as good as last time! The bathroom is always kept clean so I have no complaint there either. They do offer outdoor seating but it was too cold for us to sit outside. I do wish that they were little bit more COVID friendly with spacing. Even though we visited on a weekday, after dinner time we were sat pretty close to other people. If you're looking for a night out, this is a place you must try! read more

Yummy bites here! The food is elegant but hearty. We got a bunch of comforting, warm bites. The table really enjoyed their meals (meatloaf, short ribs, and falafel burger), while mine was standard but not anything out of this world (sesame crusted rice side with shrimp). Honestly, the best part of the meal was dessert! We got the pumpkin toffee lava cake and the creme brûlée - so good. The restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing, however the biggest downside was that we were seated near a bunch of windows and it was freezing during our meal. The waitress was kind enough to ask management to bump the heat, but we still all ate with our coats on because it was that cold. We've been to all the locations. I wanna say this is my favorite but I'm afraid of hurting the other locations feelings. They all have their perks. So we drove passed the White Dog location in Wayne on the way to the car wash. My wife wanted to stop. I was hesitant because the bill by the end of a White Dog meal can be a little hefty. They aren't the cheapest place. However the quality makes up for it. So we got a wash and headed back. We arrived just in time for them to close for an hour. So we sat at the bar and chilled while we waited. I as a dog lover could not love the decor more than I do. Dog this, dog that. The place just looks so cool. outside eating area is perfect. I got the brand new life mocktail. So they started their fall menu and dayuuummmm. I got the mushroom Ruben. My wife got the squash soup and falafel. We shared Parmesan fries. I tried hers and she tried mine. The soup was excellent. Even though the place was poppin' a few super nicely dressed people stopped by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Not sure how many managers are on at a time but they made sure to check on everyone. I love every location and I've never had a less than excellent experience at any of them. read more

I have tried the white dog cafe in university city so I was super excited to find out that they had another location in Wayne. The interior is so cute and filled with cute dog portraits. There's a nice bar inside and plenty of tables for dining. We opted for the brunch hours and ordered the deviled eggs, eggs Benedict and my bf got the steak and eggs. I tried his piece of steak and was super impressed with the cut and how it was cooked. The deviled eggs had caviar on top and it tasted just as good as it looked. I feel like I've reviewed white dog Café several times, but I've been asked to do it again (maybe mine was outdated) . I am more than delighted to share my experiences with this terrific restaurant. I have to say the food and ambience stands up against the test of time. The menu changes with the seasons, but keep some standards. I'm not alone when I say I am obsessed with mushroom soup. Thank God it remains on the menu. This past summer I was pretty enamored with their cornbread. I guess I'll have to wait until next spring or summer for them to put it back on the menu. I am counting the days. My friend and I shared the delicious deviled eggs. They are not only beautiful but yummy. The caviar on top was a nice touch. My friend enjoyed her omelette, and I loved my very large chicken sandwich. Next time I might sub the salad for french fries. I couldn't stop eating my friends fries. White dog has away with french fries! I feel like the menu is brought enough to a lot of different palettes. I've had here since they opened years ago. About nine of us had dinner last night at the Glen Mills location and everything about it was great! We all shared about four different appetizers. Each one was unique and AMAZING. Each main course was perfect! Hats off to the chef staff at this place & their attention to detail and flavor. The server staff was very informative but never pushing. My friend and I went to the White Dog Cafe for lunch and sat at the bar. The setting is comfortable and whimsical with all of the dog pictures and paraphernalia. Even the bathrooms are very canine oriented. I ate a Lancaster omelette that was delightful! Then spices, sun dried tomato and goat cheese were delicious, with a side of potatoes and greens. The serving size was perfect to fill a hungry person without feeling stuffed. Our waitress was actually the bartender, Fiona. She was quick to greet and assist us. He knew nothing about serving, Food was less than warm, had the seafood combo, the pasta was overcooked, scallops were very small and shrimp, again was cold. Appetizer was ok, chatcuterie board, just thrown together. The wait staff needs training on fine dining and engaging pleasantries and smile! So disappointed, will never be back, terribly over rated. I stopped by here last night as I wanted to avoid my horrendous commute back home as much as possible. I really enjoyed this place. The service was good and the happy hour specials were great. $12 for 6 oysters, $12 for Tuna Tartare, and $9 for Caesar Salad. Also, the glasses of wine ran $7. I recently visited this cafe before the state ordered closing of restaurants due to COVID-19. The outdoor dining area was nicely decorated for the holiday and heaters were available to make the dining area more comfortable. They checked my temperature before seating me and all staff wore masks. The tables were spaced well to allow for social distancing. I enjoyed the arancini appetizer. It was creative and tasty. I ordered the Diver Scallops for my entree. The scallops were cooked perfectly but I didn't really like the plating of the dish or the items which accompanied the scallops. There were two types of cauliflower on my plate. One was roasted and the second was pickled? The pickled item didn't seems to work well with the rest of the dish. The entree was okay but not spectacular. I did order dessert since I was dining here on my birthday. The almond tart was just okay. They did add a candle which was thoughtful and wished me a happy birthday. This was not the best dining experience for me but I would return for a second time when less restrictions are in place. read more

First off our server was extremely rude and not good at getting the correct food served at the appropriate time . I started with the mushroom soup it was ok . Then I had the black and bllue salad with shrimp . The salad was drenched in dressing the leaves were soggy. The best part was the other woman in my party ordered the same dish and her salad had the shrimp on it mine did not . So they had to bring me out the shrimp later . I do not understand the rave reviews about this place. The food was no better than any other upscale restaurant in Wayne, and the service was SLOW as Christmas. The food was over-priced (I'm sorry, a $25 hot dog??). We asked to sit outside (since we brought our dog), and they looked at me like I had 3 heads. I thought this place was sort of known for a dog-friendly patio, but I didn't get that vibe at all. It was a chilly November day, and despite that there were 2 other tables of people on the patio, the staff didn't offer to turn on the patio heat lamps. The second the apps were put down we were then made to order dinner which took even longer. Terrible timing and terrible execution. To me that's unacceptable, especially considering we were going to spend well over $1000. Since I was entertaining clients I complained to the manager early on but instead of the service improving, it just got worse. To add injury to insult, they automatically apply a 20% gratuity to parties of 6 or more so no matter how bad the service is they know they're getting paid so they just don't care. This has been our weekend brunch spot for a bit. Always have had good food and service. Staff is always friendly and attentive. Two of us are gluten free and thankfully they have good options to make it easy to eat. Today they went a little above and beyond. One of us got French onion soup,and I made a comment how I haven't had it in ages since they always have bread in it. One of the staff overheard, and five minutes later brought out a bowl of French onion soup sans the bread. Was very unexpected, and us two glutarded ones downed it quickly. Maybe they'll take it another step and just make it a regular option or use their gluten free roll as the bread. Though I'm quite fine without the extra carbs. read more

My wife and I went there at 2:30 on a Wednesday. We each ordered a bowl of soup, a salad and a glass of water. That was it. Bill was $93.00, plus a tip. But it could have been worse, if I'd ordered a hot dog, because on the menu, their foot long hot dogs are $23.00. That is obscene. My tip was not generous. Despite the place being 2/3rds empty, it took them 10 minutes to bring our soup, and then another 40 minutes to bring our salads. We went there hoping for a quick lunch, but that too was a failure. Mine was the Thai salad with cold beef. It was mainly noodles which were unappetizing, some greens and tough beef. I ate less than half of it. AS you may surmise, we will not be boing back. My recommendation? Don't go there unless someone else is paying the bill, and expect to leave hungry. read more

We usually love white dog. Tonight was an awful experience. We were there with children and asked to place orders early for them and the waiter told us no. This led to 2 starving and cranky kids. Then, it took over an hour for appetizers to show up. After we went up to complain, even to the manager, they still didn't change their service. We had to hunt down the waiter for water and even the bill at the end. At the end of the night, as we were leaving, I complained again to the manager and he didn't even offer to comp any part of our $300 dinner. I had been wanting to stop in for a while now because their menu looks good. Our experience was not good at all. Our reservation was at 7:30 and we didn't get sat until 8:00. The service was so slow, the waitress was nice but hardly checked on us and we were in the back corner of the restaurant next to a broom closet. The bread basket and Parmesan truffle fries were the best part of the meal. It took over 45 minutes to get our entrees and they were sub par. The ambiance of the restaurant was okay but it was so hot inside it was overwhelming. Also the manager was at the host stand the whole time talking to the hostess and it was borderline creepy that he wouldn't leave her be. The watermelon mint martini, however, was quite good. Starters - The house made soft pretzel bread was to die for. Totally get this. The roasted garlic hummus was meh... I'd skip it next time. ALWAYS the Kennett Square mushroom soup. Creamy, decadent. Yellowfin tuna tartare was alright but not very much for $18. Mains - the spicy lamb bolognese is absolutely incredible. Tons of sauce and meat. I will come back for this dish specifically. The cheeseburger...was a cheeseburger. The chicken was a massive portion and well seasoned (but it's chicken). The steak frites were not a large enough portion to justify $56. Dessert - peanut butter crunch was super decadent. The vanilla bean crème brûlée was nothing crazy but had a nice touch of a shortbread cookie and fresh berries on top. So the canine theme and décor is a bit kitschy especially when you consider that you have to retrieve toilet paper (in their spotless restrooms) out of a dogs mouth. The atmosphere is full immersion colonial with a surprising number of patrons enjoying Saturday brunch in formal business attire that had me thinking Manhattan instead of a strip mall in Wayne, Pennsylvania. In any case the food was exceptional as were the constant reminders of cage free, locally grown, organic food sourcing. George Washington could have very easily eaten here, provided the General was hip to every trend in modern gastronomy. What I got was a spinach and mushroom sandwich, where the second question was where's the cheese? The first was this is a cheesesteak??? NO!!! This is MARKETING! The spinach and mushroom sandwich was delicious. Don't get me wrong. It just was NOT a mushroom cheesesteak. This is Philadelphia, cheesesteak country! If you're going to call something a cheesesteak, even a veggie version, it had better be a cheesesteak! WE KNOW THE DIFFERENCE! This was not I was not amused, especially at $16! And half the plate was salad. What's wrong with salad, you might ask? Nothing at all, if you didn't order a salad as an appetizer. And here again was the problem with descriptions. The Beet and Arugula salad was absolutely kickass! But it was large enough to be an entrée. I asked the server if it was an appetizer or entrée portion, and she said it was an appetizer size. I'll post a picture here and you can judge. I was full after that salad, especially with the delicious bread that was served before the meal. I would've appreciated an honest answer that it was large, so I didn't order 2 entrées. I'm not a fan of taking stuff home as I usually don't have time to eat it the next day. But because I received a large plate of salad and complained about it, that's how I came to know the indescribably delicious brussels sprouts! So I guess things happen for a reason! LOL Those brussels sprouts took the rating to 4 stars. They were charred and phenomenal, though a little less salt would be my recommendation. The marketing fiasco would have me rate this 3 stars. The beautiful restaurant setting and the awesome menu, as well as the flavors, would normally have me give this place 5 stars. But we were not happy with the service as we were misled on many counts. My friend had a Caesar salad that was supposed to have some kind of croutons that had none. So the kitchen that night was pretty erratic.
