Surly customer service. Lousy description on website. "Too bad, tough" attitude when I called to discuss my order. My whole experience has been terrible with this lousy company. I spent some time placing my order with a surly female. This was a birthday purchase for myself from my husband. The description of the daffodils that I ordered was insufficient, in fact, sorely lacking. I am going to have to dig them up out of my front lawn and move them, they are that ugly. White Flower Farms offers the best amaryllis available! After sending amaryllis to friends and family for several years, I treated myself to three potted amaryllis bulbs in early December. I've had continuous blossoms for two months. Each plant had three stalks of flowers with 4-6 blooms per stock. Some stalks were 3 ft tall, and some blossoms were 8 inches across. I have received amaryllis from other companies (e.g., Jackson & Perkins), but none compare to those sold by WFF. read more

I ordered a "Hummingbird Collection" for $45. It was 6 plants that would cost $2-3 each at any garden center. They were unspotted and there were no pictures or directions - nothing like the ad in the catalog. You would never know it was the "Hummingbird" thing. read more

I ordered 4 Black&Bloom Sage plants from them only because I couldn't find them anywhere else here in Ohio (2 for me, 2 for a friend). Took weeks to receive and when they came I thought they were in ok shape... that is until a local nursery called me (I was on their waiting list) that their supplier had just come through with the Black&Blooms. Stopped by to take a look and buy another one or two and they were super healthy and gorgeous--double the size of those I received from White Flower Farm. So I bought a couple more. Those bloomed within a week of planting and three weeks later I'm still waiting for blooms on the White Flower Farm plants. Not to mention that the cost for White Flower Farm plants was over $2 more for each plant (plus shipping). Live and learn. Next year I'll be patient and wait just a little longer to purchase from a local nursery for a healthier plant at a lower price. read more

I wish I could count on White Flower Farm to get an order right. I had problems in the past, but decided to give you a try again. Unfortunately you left out 6 plants that were supposed to be included in a collection. They are now going to arrive 3-5 days later than the others. That doesn't work well for planting a bed, and I had taken leave from work and scheduled help to do this. It's just not good. Again. The plant material is fine. The service, not so much. Whatever you do, DON'T ORDER FROM HERE!! I ordered a Blue Hosta in early January knowing it wouldn't be shipped out until spring. Well, All of my perennials are up and growing now, tomato plants are in the ground.... well, you get the picture. I have contacted them three times with no return communication whatsoever. I should have read the reviews before I ordered online. I used them because I wanted specific shade plants I couldn't find anywhere else. They are not cheap, but I thought it would be worth it. When my order took longer than expected, I could not get a hold of the company on the phone. My first email went unanswered. Second email, asking to cancel my order resulted in a shipment. One of the plants doesn't look like it will make it. Another, that I was charge for, wasn't in the box. I won't use these people again. read more

I have to say this was my first experience with this company. I recently joined the Mass horticultural society and received a gift cert for here. It is far away from me so I decided to order online. The only glitch was with my mass hort membership, my fault it is under maiden name not married so they had a hard time finding it...totally my bad. After that everything was great! I selected my veg plants to arrive for mothers day. (I like having my plants early) I was not sure how the plants were going to be size and heath wise. Bigger than I expected! Packed very well and in great shape! One was missing and there was a note on the receipt that it would arrive shortly. That one arrived a few days later. I had them all by mothers day ( not that I needed them). I have since planted them all outside and they are doing wonderful. I have both peppers and tomatoes on them already an my cuke from them is the healthiest one of all my plants. I like that I got to order a couple varieties that I have not seen locally. read more

Bad experience! Ordered a lilac from them and it took years to bloom. When it finally did, it was not the variety I ordered--it was the other variety they carry. Would not consider even a credit for THEIR mistake without a receipt. I had been a loyal customer but no more. read more

We have ordered from them and we live on the west coast and they did not survive, the pot broke and the plants were dead than we called and complained and they sent us a new one with ANOTHER dead plant and broken pot. I paid over $300 in January and was told they would ship first 2 weeks of March for Texas. Well March 15 rolls by and nothing. No communication. I go onlline and it says "preparing to be shipped." I call and find out that the snow storm is affecting them, but they didn't know when it would be delivered now. Why did i have to call and not vice versa? Also I have a mulch and topsoil order that I keep having to delay because of their delay. Finally it says will ship week of March 27th after my husband called them--no mention that it would be only a partial shipment. Well nothing happened. I call on Friday end of week and they say oh we will ship today. I got them Tuesday the 5th. The plants received were in terrible shape (some had 1 tuber some had 5 broken ones) and I only got half my order. I called this morning and was told that they had no idea when or why the other part of my order was delayed. The rep speculated that they just weren't in yet. The rep was super unhelpful. When I asked how I would be notified about a refund since now I don't want plants that may never show up, she was like "oh I guess they will email you, not sure." And I will probably only get a gift card refund which is completely stupid since I never want to order from there again. In total I sent 2 emails about status and made 2 calls. I recently placed an order for tulip, grape hyacinth, and allium bulbs and a phlox. I was charged for everything and received only the tulip bulbs. When I called to inquire whether there was another package on the way, not only was I told that the package I received was the only one sent, but that the allium bulbs were now sold out, so there was no chance of replacement. I purchased a $75 gift card from me to me for my birthday a couple of years ago. When I placed an order ~ after shipping ~ the total was around $185. NOTHING ~ I repeat ~ NOTHING survived! And I have a beautiful garden so I don't think it was owner error. I called to ask about a refund and was told they could only refund the amount over $75 because that was a gift card. For 2 years I kept trying to get a refund so I could use the $75 at HD or some local nursery. Finally I ordered a few plants that I'm hoping will survive. I had to pay shipping of $18.95 so that didn't leave me much to buy plants with. They only shipped the Heuchera part of my order. When I called to inquire was told it was too cold to send the Lantana! If these plants don't survive I will insist on my $75 refund ~ sure hope I don't have to go through that because they are not refund-friendly!!! I've purchased perennials here this past spring which so far have done well in my garden. I went back yesterday to pick up some tomato plants at their big weekend sale and couldn't believe what they were trying to sell. the plants were scrawny, leggy, sun starved things that were the worst plants I've seen in a long, long time. and yet they were charging $5-8 each for such sad things. I don't know if they planted them way too early, bought them from an outside contractor, or kept them in the shade somehow but clearly they were something that a place like white flower should be ashamed to try to sell, let alone change such prices for. I went to a local nursery and got my tomatoes there for $1.99 each, beautiful short, compact, healthy looking plants. the prices I paid for the perennials was steep which I put up with but after this weekend it'll be a long time, if ever, that I take the long drive to shop there again. read more

I recently had a discussion with a friend that we would only yelp positive reviews because it is so easy to go off on a business and rarely do we give praises to good service. However, this experience was so shockingly awful in customer service that I had to post my review. We placed a mother's day/birthday gift order on April 28. The site said it ships in the "spring" which is a wide window. We placed the order anyway. By May 5 we had yet to receive any communication regarding the expected shipment. One email unanswered, two phone calls left on hold for over 10 minutes each and one 20 minute phone call (most of that of course on hold) with what sounded like a woman who should be under adult supervision we are told it would ship the week of the 11th (missing the point of mother's day but in time for her birthday). We very much wanted her to have the tomato plants; time for planting is running out so we accepted this.After that call they re forwarded me my email receipt that stated no new information. Just what I ordered, when and for how much. The same email from April 28. By Thursday the 14th, we still did not receive the ship notice, we called again and were given a tracking number, however by the next day tracking still showed no movement, only that a shipping label was created. They must think so poorly of their customers to think we are stupid enough to think this meant the items shipped and are on the way and they fulfilled an order. Today is now Tuesday the 19th, This time they did respond to my email asking when it ships because they only created a label and did not actually ship anything. They replied "We apologize that the usps tracking isn't giving updates. I can't see a estimated delivery date. Since this was a Mother's Day and birthday gift we have refunded your credit card" WOW That was very nice, I thought but at the same time how insane must they be to not understand how shipping works. If you create a label, you still must pack a box, stick the label on and book a pick up. There is no tracking updates because there is no shipment. So I thanked them and asked if they would still ship, we want the tomatoes. Once again no reply. We then called and got the same woman who just kept saying " but a label was made" to EVERY question even the ones of why did you not ship, can you send us our order anyway. We wanted the order not the refund. I checked my bank account. NO REFUND WAS SENT!!!! I left a message to find out 1. Where is my money? 2. Why did they not ship? 3. Why won't they ship? We told her these plants were coming and now it is doubtful she can plant tomatoes this year. Understandably unpredictable things can happen but you must communicate to your customers. Even when you are crappy enough not to reach out, when the customer calls and asks, you tell them. Perhaps the seeds did not take this year and you don't have plants to send, perhaps you had a pest infestation. Either way you tell your customer why their 3 week old order has not shipped and for some weird reason you wont ship and you give them their money back. They have until tomorrow to refund me, otherwise I report them as fraud to my bank. I don't know where my partner read reviews. He said this place was highly rated. He must have looked at testimonials on their site because my looking at yelp now shows how often this situation occurs. NEVER order from here unless you want to just give some swindlers who don't give an eff about their customers and basic business practices money just to frustrate you and ignore your messages. read more

I have, or should I say had, been a customer of White Flower farm for years. Their products were usually acceptable; however, never stellar. Usually I would lose about 50% of whatever I bought. Being an incredibly busy Psychologist in a very demanding career, I admit it was convenience that had me returning; however, each year I would buy less and less. This year I ordered around $300.00 of plants from them. I noticed immediately that shipping was very slow, and communication was zero. To make a long story short, after numerous unanswered emails I finally called. What I got was a completely unprofessional "Customer Service Representative" named "Debbie Cashman" (it was important to her that I knew her name. She even spelled it! Go figure). At any rate, she blatantly refused to let me speak with a supervisor, engaged in harassing and aggressive verbal attacks, and ultimately stated, repeatedly in fact, that she would not transfer me to a supervisor nor would she give them my name and number to call back. She told me "go ahead and call the owner. I don't care." Well, that pretty much says it all. It's doubtful that I will ever get the remaining 5 items from the order I placed in February. That's ok.
