They only have 12 seats or so but the turnaround is super quick. The grilled onions are a must. The burgers are juicy and the onion rings are crunchy but not overly so. I've been going to the white hut since I was 14 years old which is just shy of 30 years. Same guy at the grill same ridiculously good hamburgers and hotdogs. You can't go to western mass and not stop at white hut or you haven't been to Western mass. I don't live in the area anymore but I specifically stated come back for their food. Family run and operated and still on the trust system... You tell them what u had to eat at the register. Old school and still killing it the way a great place should. read more

I love White Hut. I love it all. I love sitting at the counter and watching the well oiled machine do what it does best. I love the way they mark the burgers when they're ordered, I love the press of the people all around, I love the hustle and bustle of the place and I love the food. I usually get a burger and fries and sometimes an extra burger or dog. As a friend of mine said, they go down easy. They are not sliders in the sense that they're little tiny burgers but you'll surprised after eating one that you want another and can probably easily put it away. I'm not a big fan of the grilled onions but some swear by them. This place is the epitome of old school, local, fast food at its finest. It gets crowded so be patient and you'll be helped with some great servers that know what they're doing. read more

Burgers, dogs, and fries. That's about all you get here. They keep it simple and have been at it for many years. People generally rave about White Hut, but to me it's just meh. I make a much better burger at home. It's an assembly line with no atmosphere, but it's cheap, and quick, and better than McDonalds. read more

I came here today before going to the Railroad Hobby Show down the street. I got a burger with lettuce and fries. The burger was average and so were the fries. I would not go out of my way to come here since you can get a burger at most restaurants. The way it works here is you order your food then they give it to you and then you sit or stand and eat and then you go tell the cashier what you ordered and pay before walking out the door. This is the only place I have been to that does this, if you wanted to you could lie about your order and they would probably never know if you are being honest or not. read more

So this gets 3.5 stars actually. I met a friend out in Western Mass to go "shootin'", as he calls it, and we came here for lunch afterwards. I was incredibly hungry and could not wait to get my hands on a greasy burger. We walked in and there was a bit of chaos. People milling about, no menu, bar seating only - it was a bit of a sensory overload. I was informed as to my only choices - burger, hot dog, and fries. I decided on one burger and we shared the fries. I guess you just tell them what you want and they seriously remember it somehow. They gave us our food and I grabbed a bottled root beer, one of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks. We just ate standing up at a counter and I dug in. The burger had a thin patty, melted cheese, and caramelized onions. It was pretty good but I prefer thick, juicy hunks of beef. The fries were medium sized and mealy on the inside with a decent crispness. It was good for what it was and it satisfied my hunger. Cash only. read more

i had never heard of this well loved establishment but my boyfriend brought me yesterday for lunch and I can see why there is all the hype! GREAT and simple cheeseburger with raw onions and ketchup. Simple, and easy to eat. Service is friendly and I love the ease of the experience and I could house like 6 of those cheeseburgers or dogs ! The 1 I ordered was satisfying though. The White Hut ceased being merely a burger joint eons ago and has without a doubt been elevated the status of Institution! It's imprint on the Western Mass landscape has become indelible. The "cheeseburg fried" (cheeseburger with fried onions) is absolute perfection and the hot dogs (recommended well done w/ mustard & relish) are too delicious. My uncle used to take me here as a kid, nearly thirty years ago. A big fan of the place, he insisted that the only thing to eat at the White Hut was hot dogs and fries, and the only way to get your hot dog was with mustard and onions. Now, I've never had anything else there, so I can't say whether I've missed out on anything, but I never regretted a meal there. read more

Have eaten here for years....never reviewed the place. Have never ordered anything except their hot dogs and let me tell you..they are delicious. Had 3 more today at lunch...mouth watering. Part of their secret is the toasted bun....put the hot dog inside the bun with a little mustard....and you've got hot dog heaven! if i had a gripe I'd say $2.80 for a relatively small dog is outrageous but it sure is tasty. I also don't like the entire set up at white Hut. hoping to catch the eye of the server....yelling your order over the person next you...oh well. No one ever said life was easy!! I get back to Springfield every couple of years and the White Hut always is my first stop (the Student Prince being the other). Ate there last Tuesday (first time since July 2005) and it was as awesome as always. Fed family of five for $27.50, everyone left happy and full! read more

We went to the counter and asked to see the menu. The dude said, "we dont't have a menu" and then rattled off the short list of burgers, fries and dogs available. Heaven. As close to the east coast version of In and Out Burger with east coast attitude thrown in for free as you can get. Hot, inexpensive, and delicious. It is all about the caramelized onions. The flat top is well conditioned from years of service so of course the burgers are good, not huge, but good. The service is fine, with counter service they have a hard time avoiding you if it isn't crowded, like when I went. The huge stack of cartelized onion they keep at the edge of the flat top could be put on shoe leather, and make it palatable. The onion rings are also high quality, the onion doesn't slide out of the breading and leave you with two things you don't want. My buddy said the fries were good, and his burger without onions was good. Overall if you are a burger fan and in the area you should give it a try, if for no other reason than to be part of such a long tradition. read more

I love this place. I don't know why the food is so delicious, it's really just simple burgers, dogs, and fries. The kitchen/standing area is maybe garage-sized with stool seating at the counter and standing tables in the back. You walk in, shout your order, are served in maybe 5-7 minutes, and then afterwards you pay by honor-system at the cashier. It's important to get fried onions on your cheeseburgers. This place seems expensive but I can't tell if their prices are high or if I just always end up eating too much when I go. Definitely worth driving out of the way for. For the best experience, go around noon when the place is packed and everybody is shouting. read more

I really don't know why this place has near-legendary status around here; I have to assume it's nostalgia. I've probably been here 7 or 8 times in my life, having grown up in West Springfield, and honestly, it's been consistently ok. It's a step up on a McDonald's, but that's about it. Thin, uninteresting burgers and a limited menu. The fried onions are pretty good and the only thing that makes this place remotely special. Go to Classic Burgers instead. read more

I almost decided not to waste my time reviewing White Hut, because I figured that everyone knows how good it is. The burgers (and dogs!) are great, but even if they weren't, you should go simply because this place is a legend in these parts. And they have stewart's soda. YUM. read more
