My first visit was yesterday evening. The new look inside is fresh, inviting and looks nice. There is plenty of seating between tables and booths. There are separate men's and women's bathrooms. Some reviewers complained about the service being slow. We visited on a Thursday evening around 730pm and there were only two other occupied tables. Having said that, our experience was positive in regard to service. So, I can't speak to their table service if they happen to be busy. I can see the quality of table service being slow if busy due to their only being one server. After looking at the menu, their pricing is definitely on the moderate to higher side. I say that, because I felt like some of the portions on the plates to be split amongst our group was not a lot considering the price. However, the quality of their food was on point. White Peony is my family's go to restaurant in Tracy. Whenever I'm in town visiting my parents, it's my first choice on where to eat. The food is amazing and the service is too. The restaurant is decorated nicely, very relaxing and zen. Their meat buns are one of my favorites. We met the owner and she suggested them and they are delicious, made fresh there. You get 8 small buns to an order and they are filled with savory meat in a soft delicious bun. This visit we also had the Wor Wonton Soup, Honey Walnut Prawns, and Sesame Chicken. Everything was delicious as usual with great flavor. Definitely good size portions- so we had leftovers to take home. If I could only find a place I like this much in Vegas! read more

The food here is delicious but the service is poor. I've been here twice and the first time we noticed that this family came in before us and we left and they still didn't have their food. I felt so bad. The second time I go, that same thing happened to me. It appeared that the person that took our order lost it. Now don't get me wrong, the staff is nice but I don't know if they get overwhelmed with all the people eating there and all the orders on the phone. The spot is great! We went here tonight for the 1st time. We had read the reviews and wanted to try this place. This is the old Mandarin Villa location (I'm talking about the original not the 2nd version - sorry digressing) The redecorated inside is nice decor and feels welcoming. Tonight they were understaffed. I think a few employees did not show up so the owner (very nice women) was doing the best that she and the limited staff could do. They were pretty busy overall. The food tasted good and was presented very nicely. Our biggest complaint was that everything came out all at once. May not sound like an issue or problem but usually when you order soup that would be served first and you would have time to enjoy your soup before the meal. Our soup and main dishes arrived at the same time and by the time we started eating our main dishes they were warm at best (actually more like cool). We did not complain because it was Christmas Eve and we could see that the owner and her employees were trying their best. My advice is just space out the soup and/or appetizers from the main dishes. We ordered Wor Wonton Soup to start and ordered the Singapore Noodles, Tofu and Vegetables, Sliced Chicken with Basil and King Pao Chicken with some Steamed Rice. All of the food was very tasty. We were so excited to try White Peony since they were new in town and we've heard such great things. Well, they definitely did not disappoint. We went on a Friday night at about 7pm and was sat down right away. The owner Michelle who took our order was so sweet and very attentive. The food came on a timely manner and was hot and delicious. Checked this out for the first time on a Sunday evening, place was almost full but we (3p) got our table within 3 minutes. Service was slow but we ordered 4 items off the menu. The Chow fun tasted great, the Yang Chow fried rice good as well and was sufficient for the three of us. The Wor Wonton soup was a little salty and at $15 was overpriced for the quantity. The biggest disappointment was the Mongolian Beef (~$15). While it tasted good, there was very few slices of beef maybe 6-7 thin slices and it was mostly onions. My family ordered 3 appetizers and 4 main dishes in addition to 4 personal bowls of white rice and 3 drinks. The appetizers were okay and came out in a timely manner altogether. (This is the only photo of this meal because the rest of the meal was such a mess that I forgot to take pics) None of the main dishes came out together; we maybe waited ~5-10mins in between each, which is quite significant. We were basically done with each dish before the next one came out. The rice and drinks didn't even come till the third dish came. And we spent maybe 20mins waiting on the last dish, beef w/ broccoli. When the third dish came out we asked the server if it was still on the way and she responded "um I think, let me go check" and she never came back. We kept trying to flag any server down but none of them would make any eye contact. Several other tables also had trouble with the wait on different dishes and get servers' attention. (In the end the server realized she never put in the broccoli beef, so we were just waiting around for nothing.) It's clear that when the staff is busy or overwhelmed they just blatantly ignore their other guests. There was absolutely no sense of transparency/honesty with the guests, no urgency, and no remorse for the bad service. When we left the server just said "sorry" and bye and that's it. There was no offer to compensate anything from the meal despite the horrible service, and honestly it just seemed greedy on their part. I can sympathize a bit with their side as they seem inexperienced and understaffed. It seemed like there was a Mother's Day coupon for takeout orders and I can see how that's overwhelming on top of serving dine-in guests. But that's no excuse to give your in-person guests terrible service. They could have turned off online ordering or stopped taking phone orders for a bit to catch up on dine-in orders. They just missed the mark on a lot of the bare basics of restaurant service. Also the food was nothing special and didn't justify the wait. I'd rather go to any other Chinese restaurant in town. I never give 1 star reviews but I just hope they can find some way to be better. read more

They have white table cloths so indication it's more on the $$$ side. But again, food is delicious and you won't be disappointed. Ok - Dim Sum lovers around Tracy area!!! if you are looking for great tasting bay area dim sum, there is a hidden gem called "White Peony" - My favorite is chicken feet and hargow (shrimp dumpling). I am so happy I found this gem and sharing it with everyone in this area! It's made to order so it will be 10 mins but well worth it. Also, they have fried intestines which are delicious!! Pros: orange chicken, beef and broccoli were good Cons: Singapore style noodles are really salty, siu mai was expensive and super chewy- one piece was totally inedible and another had no shrimp in it, custard buns are not house made but tasted like the frozen store bought ones from 99 Ranch, chicken feet is bland. For the prices they're charging I expected everything to be freshly made in-house and not store bought. The restaurant was clean, elegant, and enjoyable. The service was impeccable and full of genuine kindness. Free fried wonton wrappers came with our meal, along with sweet and sour soup. The food was comparable to Chinatown in the city, maybe even better. The dim sum bao was soft and fresh. The siu mai and shrimp balls were made from the freshest ingredients. We are so happy we no longer need to drive so far to get fresh, tasty Chinese food! And... my grumpy Chinese father was impressed! No better stamp of approval than that! read more

I really like the new renovation. The ambiance felt really nice inside. The place is great for a nice sit down meal. The wonton soup was a great starter. There was enough for 4 people. We also ordered beef chow fun and shrimp fried rice. There was a pretty good serving so we were able to take left overs home. I didn't get a chance to take a picture because my kids already started to dig in. They also serve dim sum! I would say the dim sum isn't as close to dim sum in the city but it's decent enough and I'm happy that Tracy has dim sum in town. My son told the owner that it was my birthday. And I honestly thought they wouldn't remember that but at the end of our meal they said to stay so they gave me a birthday treat and sang happy birthday which was so nice. This is my first time here. After reading all the reviews it seems like this place either gets 5 stars or 1 or 2 stars. Very few in between. Most people praise the food but insist the service is terrible. There were 2 tables when I arrived and let the waitress know I was ready to order. It took 8 minutes for her to come take my order. It is now 30 minutes (22 since I ordered) and still no food. I was seated toward the front and several call in orders are well past their expected time to be ready. 35 minutes and still nothing. There are now 6 people standing at the front to pick up their to go orders. It's like hitting the lottery when she actually calls your name. 47 minutes and still no food. I leave $10 for the beer that I ordered and drank but gave up on ever getting any food. When I got in my car I called the Golden Eagle and ordered my food. It was ready when I drove across town. Perfect as always. Now I can say I tried the new place, actually I attempted to try the new place but was unable. read more

Love the crunch on the chicken dishes but beyond the food there was little to love. We arrived at 6:45pm on a Tues night and were quickly seated. The restaurant wasn't full with a few parties dining, and only 2 servers working. This is where the complaining begins. The smell of the restaurant smelled like going into an old moldy building. Then we waited for someone to acknowledge us to get our order started, then waited and waited and waited for the food that we ordered. We had to flag the waiter for water refills. We also asked where was our shrimp dumplings, an hour in and a waiter said they were working on it. Another waiter asked, did you receive everything a few minutes later, and asked about the missing dish which they didn't comp, once it arrived almost an hour and a half in. It would be great if they communicated with each other to help with service. We waited again for the bill and eventually got fed up and walked up to the register to request the bill. They need to get their act together on the horrible service. The food was great but it does not make up for all the waiting. Not going back unless they fix their service issues and get food to arrive at reasonable times. We left the restaurant 2hrs later. How hard can it be to serve a family of 4 on a non busy evening? I realize costs have gone up but when they charge more than the advertised price that's not right. You can see the Lunch Menu prices but the waiter said "My boss said prices are $2.00 more." Then when the bill came my wife's Lemon Chicken was charged at $14.99, $3 more! They corrected that but still, if you hand me a menu with prices that's what I expect to pay. Never again. read more

Food was nothing special, I don't think it's worth the price they charge you tbh. Dimsum menu is a joke, You are better off going to Midori or Golden Eagle. Service was horrible!! An 8 yr old kid helping wait tables spilled water on our table and the waitress just stood there and smiled, did not offer to dry it or change the table cloth. The side of our table was soaked. 3 of our orders never came and we were waiting so long not knowing that it was never actually being made. My family and i have been coming to this restaurant back when it was Mandarin Villa for takeout so we waited for construction to be completed to come back. To our surprise, it had been rebranded with new management in addition to a new restaurant ambiance and menu. The food has been delicious! I've ordered takeout about 3-4 times now and we've been impressed each time. Our favorites are the sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice and chicken chow mein. During lunchtime, I also enjoy the complimentary fried won tons with sweet and sour sauce. I haven't had a chance to sit down and eat inside of the restaurant but I do look forward to it as the newly remodeled ambiance is very cool and inviting! First time to see this restaurant advertised in junk mailer. I checked it out on yelp and seeing good reviews, and wanting to check it out to see how good it is, went there and checked out the menu. Looking at their menu, seeing that they have dimsum, so I ordered bbq pork steam buns. When I got home and open the to go box and found 3 tiny buns, not the normal size. It was like probably 2 inches in size. I bit into it and it has good flavor, but unfortunately it was too small for the price. It cost $ 8.00 plus. While waiting for my order, one of the waitress was ringing one customer up, and when she looked at the register and was surprised and then she looked at the menu and said "oh the price changed", but didn't explained to the customer that she was charging her more. Since the new menu didn't have the increase price, they shouldn't be charging customer a higher price, that's bad. Then I asked the person who gave me my order, and she mentioned that it'll be $2.00 more from the menu because their new menus have not arrived yet. First time coming in, and the atmosphere was delightful. The inside decor has a modern minimalistic feel which makes the place feel classy and clean. The bathroom is clean and tidy just like the rest of the restaurant. Unlike some chinese restaurants, each person gets soup and appetizers which is a pleasant surprise. The food itself has beautiful presentation and you can tell the chefs but lots of work into presenting their work. The Honey Walnut Shrimp is some of the best I have ever had. What a horrible experience we had, very sad. First, the kid who was trying to help wait tables who I think was 7 yrs or 8 yrs old spilled water on our table while giving it to us the waitress just stood there without offering to dry it or at least change the table cloth. Pros: The food was good. The ambiance was good. Cons: The service was a train wreck. They are under staffed. The appitizer was the last plate to arrive. No communication. The two servers blamed each other for problems. Attention to guests was almost nonexistant. Refills finally arrived as we were leaving.
