First time trying this place out last night and we had a great time! We were warming welcomed by the owner and even let us try a sample of the pares and sisig (both were delicious). Weather was a little rainy but that didn't stop us from enjoying! There's so many options to choose from on the stick and even rice plates. You pick your sticks and then pay and order any additional items. After, you go outside and you get to grill, this was fun to do! The owner made sure everyone was doing well, checking in if anyone needed help! Everything is so delicious, great vibes! Feels like you're back in PI! Such a great experience, we'll definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Rick is a master of hospitality. You feel welcomed as soon as you walk up. The favors are many and delicious. Tables are setup outside. I feel like I'm home here. The people are happy and you feel lots of love. Did I mention, the wonderful music playing? I love this place.

Hands down good vibes all around! First time here and everyone was professional and friendly. Felt like I was at a family bbq! Huge selection of food options to chose from. Can't wait to come back!

This place is not for all. This street food really hit. I'm a huge fan of intestine. The ambiance felt like I was in the backyard hanging out. Definitely needed some cards to playing with. Pretty much you pick the skewers and put them on a basket and pay. Then you go outside and grill it up. Kuya rich was the best. He was a wizard on the grill making sure nothing got to burnt. I'll definitely go back with a group and just go chill for the vibes.

The selection was great. From the classics back at home in the Philippines to the environment of the store, to the clean areas to eat and cook, really good experience. The service was also accomodating as it was my first time at this type of food spot. The lady who was at checkout was very helpful. Each stick was $2.00 and I got a total of 7. The sauce was also very good. They had the vinegar and the classic brown sauce for the food. Tasted just like home. The grill itself was great and they had two. The store also had sufficient seating! Definitely would be back here. Highly recommend if you haven't had a experience like this.

Authentic Filipino street food in SD. Rich walks you through an assortment of different skewers and grills your selection in front of you. Great music and ambiance as you wait for your food. They are patient and helpful if it's your first time! We tried almost every skewer and everything was delicious. Plenty of parking and seats. This is a must try experience!

Stumbled upon this hidden gem of a street food spot on a Friday night, and it did not disappoint! We met the owner, Rich, who was super welcoming, kind, and attentive. He guided us inside to select our skewers ($2 each) from a great variety, along with other entrée options. Inside, they also sold Filipino beauty products like traditional soaps, face cleansers, and more. After paying, we stepped outside to grill our skewers ourselves, which added to the fun experience. The ambiance, with its music and casual seating, reminded me so much of Mexico--where you just pull up to a literal esquinita (corner) for a late-night snack, eat, and chat. If you're looking for authentic Filipino street food and a welcoming atmosphere, I highly recommend stopping by and meeting Rich!

We were craving for filipino food for dinner and this place hits different. Filipino street food experience! The owner and employees are so friendly and helpful. My little boy enjoyed his experience so much that he kept talking about it. A must when you are in town.

Drove all the way from Kensington for this and really glad I did! Reminded me a lot of being home. Everything hits the spot! Ordered sisig and pretty much one of each of the bbq skewers and it did not disappoint! Owner was very helpful and friendly. Very quick service as well. Finally something similar like dollar hits in San Diego! Will definitely make the drive back again for this. Really great experience!

The BEST! You'll will feel like family going here. Lots of parking. Outstanding customer service. Ambiance is just like being in a Philippines neighborhood. Chill spot. Highly recommend going here with family & friends. Veteran owned. Salute.

The vibe was exactly like what others mentioned in the reviews--on point! I actually found them on Instagram while searching for "isawan" in San Diego. I absolutely love the atmosphere here. It was our first time, and the moment we stepped out of the car, we were warmly greeted by Kuya (I think he's the owner). He asked, "Family, is it your first time?" and when we said yes, he guided us through the menu and pointed out their specialties. We got to sample the beef pares and sisig, and they were absolutely bomb! We ended up ordering the beef pares, sisig, and beef mami and of course the bbq and isaw and everything... saraaaapp!!! Salamat po for treating us like family and making us feel so welcome. We will definitely be back!

Only open on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. They make up for the short week with the food. I highly recommend the pork belly and chicken hearts. We throughly enjoyed the experience of cooking our own skewers. The owner walked us through how to do it and we went for seconds! This is a family establishment and they make you feel at home.

And most of the ones I have tried does not compare to moms cooking. Because of mom's health she no longer cooks.... Husband was so kind listening to my food cravings and doing research, he found this place. First, this place is located in strip mall mostly made of food stops. Secondly and importantly, the parking is no joke! Come early and watch where you park. The parking is not plenty and the area is narrow, making it a challenge to see when pulling in or out of a parking space. When you get out of your car your sensory will be on overload on the aromas that seem to hook you by the nostrils! You walk in the restaurant and you will see the tables most likely all taken. How it works is you walk up to food counter and select what items you want. They offer different platter options. It was a lot going on up the food menu on the wall above the staff. Behind the counter it is well staffed so even though the line may be long it moves pretty quickly. Husband and I decided to go with a two item platter. My platter I choose half and half (rice and noodles) . My two items were chicken adobo and diniguan. We got an order of lumpia too. I found the chicken adobo to be pretty good! The chicken portion was pretty good. With chicken adobo there seems never to be enough of the sauce to saturate the rice. The diniguan to my surprise passed the test! It was tasty and had the right balance of flavors! I saved half to share with mom and she liked just as well. A plus for us is they serve seltzer (soda water)! They do have a self serve water station off to the side. The lumpia was good, but I probably would try one of the skewers next time. I forgot to mention that we had to ask to share a space at a table with another couple as there were no more open tables. They gladly shared. There are not outdoor seating. I would definitely visit this spot again.

Despite the restaurant not being as clean or well-maintained as one might expect, many customers, including myself, keep coming back because the food has traditionally been worth it. However, my last two visits have been disappointing. Since I now live more than an hour away, I don't get to visit often, so it's frustrating to make the drive only to find that some of the dishes I specifically came for--such as kalderetang kambing and sisig--were unavailable both times. What made the experience even more disappointing was the wait. The line was long, the weather was hot and sunny, and yet it barely seemed to move. It felt like the staff were in no hurry despite the number of customers waiting outside. I understand that food service can be busy and challenging, but the pace of service was frustratingly slow. The food is still good, and the portions remain generous, but between the limited availability of popular dishes and the lengthy wait times, my recent visits left me wondering whether the trip was worth it. I hope they can improve their inventory planning and speed of service because the restaurant definitely has the potential to provide a much better customer experience.

Parking is horrific by the way and you can ask for valet for $25 or make a few circles to find some street parking. This place does not have a large sign facing the street. It's very easy to miss when you're driving to look for it. I would just aim to park near the giant art sculpture and the entrance will be towards the other side of that. When coming in, the art was already breath taking. They had the Iron Giant painting above the bar area, with very nice booth seating throughout the middle. The blinds were down for the harsh sunlight, but nearing 8 p.m. the blinds were brought up for us to see the sunset (it was cloudy though haha). Our server was excellent. His name was Raphael (Rafael?) and he frequently checked in on us to see if we needed anything else. He was amazing at his job! Shout out to him! We ordered several items tonight: Tuna Kare Kare - has shellfish, therefore I did not try it. Hunan Lamb Chops - amazing! Doesn't taste earthy or musky at all. The cilantro cream was a great touch. Crispy Pig Ears - probably the star out of all the appetizers. Tasted exactly like chicharrones. There's a smell when it arrives, but that didn't matter once you took a bite! It was perfection. Wagyu Corned Beef Fried Rice - yes, therefore is wagyu, but I thought it was okay. Fried rice is rice to me. Crispy Potatoes - this was good. I enjoyed the cream the potatoes were in and its crispy texture. Short Rib Kare Kare - I couldn't have this because of my shellfish allergy. Pork Tomahawk Tocino - FANTASTIC. MUST GET. Perfectly marinated and perfectly soft. Absolutely mouth watering. Sea bass Cha Ca - pleasantly soft and delicious. Did not taste fishy. It was a nice surprise and the curry was great as well. Buko Pandan - tastes exactly like Pandan! It was a nice copy of actual Pandan. Turon Tart - my favorite. Tasted exactly like Turon. The banana ice cream was good. Sticky Rice Crème Brulee - very good! Not my favorite, but my family enjoyed it. Overall, I truly enjoyed this place for its Filipino inspired dishes. The servers were all super attentive. Every time they brought out a dish to us, they reminded us about the shellfish allergy to insure I wouldn't eat it; they were mindful of our allergies. The experience was heightened with the cocktails we ordered as well. Again, an exquisite experience which I'd highly recommend to anyone.

Since we live more than an hour away, we waited until we were already in the area. Two days ago, we finally stopped by. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The first thing we noticed upon walking in was an unusual odor that wasn't very inviting. Since it wasn't their Sunday buffet day, we ordered à la carte: kare-kare, crispy pata, and chicken inasal. The service was good, food presentation was nice, and the dishes looked promising. However, the flavors did not meet our expectations. The kare-kare did not taste like traditional kare-kare, and the bagoong alamang was extremely salty with a very strong odor. The crispy pata had been chopped into pieces before frying, making it look and eat more like lechon kawali than the crispy pata we expected. As for the chicken inasal, it was far from the traditional version we're familiar with--it didn't even appear grilled and resembled chicken satay more than inasal. There were three of us dining, and all of us shared the same impressions of the food. Based on their advertising about serving food that's "as good as Nanay's," we came in with high expectations, but sadly, those expectations were not met. This was our first visit, and unfortunately, it will likely be our last. While others may have a different experience, we were not impressed with the food and would not make the drive back for another visit.

I was seriously debating between the pork lumpia and Malasadas. Savory always wins! Ordering and paying was easy peazy lemony squeezey. They are rolled and fried fresh when you order them so I didn't mind the wait at all. He gave me a beeper and told me to wait 5 minutes. $15 dollars for 6 long lumpias. On the menu they are described as jumbo, but the are long not wide. I popped into the coffee shop because they had a feature baker pop-up. I sat down only a few minutes and the beeper buzzed. These pipping hot golden deliciousness was handed to me with the box opened for optimum crispness. They smelled so good but I had discipline to wait until I got home and not burn my mouth. The lumpia were sprinkled with Microgreens and showered in fried garlic which was a very nice touch to elevate the lumpia experience. They were served with the classic sweet chili sauce, a generous amount too. I only needed half and I dipped before every bite. They were more reminiscent of long cigars than the lumpia I'm used to, but very yummy! I'll have to try the chicken adobo next time.

The restaurant is located in a busier area with other restaurants and businesses nearby, but once you walk in, it has a really chill and welcoming vibe. They have a bunch of Filipino snacks and items displayed on the side, and the whole place feels very authentic and homey. The setup reminded me a little of places like Chipotle or Panda Express where you move down the line and choose what you want on your plate. For two sides and one base, it came out to around $16, and they loaded the plate with so much food that it easily became two meals. My boyfriend got the spicy squid along with a pork and liver dish, and everything was super flavorful. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by here if you want authentic Filipino food that feels homemade and comforting. My boyfriend is Filipino and even he said it tasted really good, which definitely says a lot. The portions are huge, the food is flavorful, and the whole place really gives that classic mom-and-pop shop feel.

The more I visit turo-turo (point-point) joints such as R&B Filipino Cuisine, the more I'm…read moreconvinced that the food isn't supposed to be excellent. No one in the kitchen expects you to take a bite of lumpia, or taste a bit of lechon with its shatteringly crisp skin, and have a moment of ecstatic pleasure, where you think to yourself (and say to whoever is nearby), "God-DAMN! That's the best thing I've ever eaten. They expect you to have that reaction at your Tita's house, in her backyard, at a birthday party for someone you're sort of related to. Turo-turo is for sating your appetite with large portions of rich, flavorful food, then going back to work. It's for grabbing a mixed bag of dinner plates and side dishes and desserts, then heading home to your family, where everyone is hungry, that kind of hungry where you talk with your mouth full while you eat, but no one minds, because they're doing the same thing. It's for leftovers - awesome leftovers - that taste as good as they did the first day, maybe better, planned-for leftovers that help keep the kitchen clean and the family full and happy. It's for comfort food, though I can't imagine anyone eating a piled-high meal of pancit and adobo and pinakbet, then pushing back from the table and saying, "You know, I feel really... comfortable." R&B serves all these things, and more, for all of these reasons. And maybe it's not excellent, but it's damned good, and it does the job it's meant to do.
