Not sure if this is a case of new management, poor training, or corporate cost-cutting, but White Spot just isn't what it used to be. The prices have climbed to the point where you're paying close to Cactus Club or Earls prices, yet the experience feels like it's moving in the opposite direction. Many of the little touches that made White Spot a family favourite seem to have disappeared. No offer of extra fries, no automatic lettuce and tomato on your burger unless you specifically ask, and overall the service feels much less attentive than it once was. The biggest disappointment was the milkshake. At nearly $9, it used to come with a full glass plus a generous amount left over in the metal mixing container. Now they still bring the metal container to the table, but there's barely an inch left in the bottom. It feels more like a prop than an actual refill. For the prices they're charging, customers should be getting the White Spot experience people remember. Instead, the food was bland, portions felt reduced, and the value just isn't there anymore. Unfortunately, this visit left me feeling like White Spot is trading on its reputation rather than delivering the quality that built it. There are simply better options for the money. read more

Kensington White Spot - Been to this location two-three times and each time the Host didn't give off a very approachable vibe. I mean at least there hasn't been a wait the times I went - however I expected a little more then "Hello, how many?- then starts walking" no attempt at conversation - didn't even say this way or ask us to follow -left menus and left before we sat - by the way there was no other people waiting behind us , so it wasn't even busy. Waitress was friendly and attentive - and food arrived in a timely manner. The burger tasted a tad undercooked this time - but not like bloody or anything so was still manageable. Fries were on point - and the re-fill to the bottomless fries were also very good. Kensington White Spot was almost full on Sunday afternoon when we arrived. We got a table right away and our server was very friendly. We got espresso milkshake, Farro power salad, Caesar salad, and buttermilk strawberry pancakes. Our milkshake came first and we shared it-it was delicious!! I only had a few sips because of high sugar content, but I'll definitely come back just for that!! It wasn't very coffee-tasting, which I appreciated because I don't actually drink coffee. I really enjoyed my Farro power salad! I never had it before, but the whole mix of veggies, nuts and some cheese was fantastic!! I am am no fan of any Whitespot so for me to give this one 4 stars is something. We stopped in on a weekend morning looking for somewhere where there was no wait for breakfast. We were seated right away but then had to wait 10 minutes for our waiter. Once he came we ordered coffee and our meals at the same time. The food when it came was hot and delicious. An order of bacon here had 4 strips where most places now have only 3 or even 2. It was cooked perfectly. Ordered well done crisp shredded hash browns and they were also great. Eggs cooked exactly as ordered the pancakes delicious and the waffle also really good. The price are a bit higher than some other breakfast places and there weren't a ton of options on the breakfast menu but we were happy to pay the extra to get a great breakfast. If only a Whitespot could transfer this experience and food quality to all their food and other locations read more

I stopped by for a spontaneous lunch and only had to wait ten minutes for a table for 3. The staff was very nice and the wait was as long as it should take for properly cooked food. Admittedly, this was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. I went to a lot of places, and the last place I expected to find something so amazing was White Spot. Loaded with sriracha mayo, portobello mushrooms, and a delicious veggies party, the burger looked simple on the surface but packed a punch of flavor. Food was 4/5. However... When I asked the waitress if they cooked the veggie burger on the same grill as the others, she evaded my question. My guess would be 'yes'. I'm not too picky personally, but some people with more sensitivities should take note. For that, and the fact that the hostess really seemed like she hated her job, I have to drop it to a 3 stars. Great location for the Kensington area! One if the better ones for sound dispersion (think Oakridge) for meetings, ask for the last booth on left by washrooms. Up the training and quality -- we all know how crappy the ABC Country was and this is no better (probably worse). Saturday Night, ordered a BC Chick Burger Combo and another Burger, from their North Road Location, which does NOT appear in Yelp (I wonder why...), I have had similar results from this location. The order was for pickup. I paid before I got the food. Next time I will only pay once the food has been received and inspected. Both Burgers appeared to have been thrown again the wall before being put in the bag, I am serious about this. They looked like survivors of a traffic accident. The fries were only half-full. I do NOT tip for take out, and this is exactly why. Even when I tip, I have found their staff rude, if they do no find the tip to be enough. If I DONT tip, they are very friendly.! This is counter intuitive... I have literally been ordering the same BC Chicken Burger combo for 18 years, and have found their service has gone down hill the last 7 years or so. The only reason I keep coming back is their in house service is 5 star, the food is still OK, given the traffic accident condition, and value. However, I will NEVER tip for take out at any of their locations again. In addition, any defective food will be replace before I leave the premises after talking with the on-duty manager. Let's get the obvious out of the way. This is a review for a White Spot, not a fine dining establishment. That said, I enjoy White Spot quite a bit. Sure it's mostly nostalgia, but I do enjoy their burgers and tend to rotate between the same two every time I go (BC Bigger Burger and the Monty Mushroom). On a normal day with everything going well, White Spot easily gets a 4 star rating from me. The food almost never disappoints, but rather it's the service experience that seems to vary wildly from location to location. My last visit to this location left a lot to be desired, and seems to be par for the course here (I've been 6-7 times). It wasn't a bad experience throughout the entire meal. We were greeted with a smile and seated within 2 mins of entering. We were asked what to drink, and the server took our orders which consisted of a burger (BC Bigger w/ bacon this time), chicken wrap, and a discounted flatbread for their appy hour). All was well until we received the appetizer. It was missing a pretty important ingredient. A pretty obvious ingredient. We called our server over to ask why said ingredient was missing. She apologizes, then proceeds to tell my fiancee and I that "they just ran out". I'm sorry- is this the new benchmark for common-sense serving? The common-sense thing to do is to tell the customer that one of the items they purchased is actually out of an ingredient at the time of the order, so that the customer can change their mind if it was an issue. If someone tried to serve me a burger without a patty and proceeded to tell me that the restaurant ran out of beef, I'd be furious. To be fair, I don't know if this was a miscommunication between the front-end and the cooks, but that's still unacceptable. With the time being rather late and my fiancee and I being really hungry, we accepted the appy as is (since there really wasn't much else to do except make a scene) and went on with our meal. The icing on the cake, however, was that we were charged full price for an appetizer that was missing a major ingredient, and there were no attempts at trying to rectify the issue by the staff working that night. I'm not one to make a scene for a few bucks, so we just left it and practically vowed never to eat in at that location ever again. Take out? Sure- the location is 5 minutes away from my house. Don't know what the below people are talking about. But here's my experience: I came here with my family of about 11 people including 4 kids. It was busy but we were seated right away. I think there was a Canucks game going on. We were greeted by our server, young but friendly and courteous. Service was prompt and appropriate. All of our drink and food orders came out correctly and hot. Even with my oh so particular aunt, her order never phased our server. Our server always asked if we needed refills or more fries. The thing about WhiteSpot is that the food never disappoints me, my expectation is always met. The service was great in my case, but I go to restaurants to eat. What I judge by my review is timeliness and how fast they can deliver me my food. Service can be minimal if they deliver the food correctly and timely. read more

We were very excited when the old ABC was going to turn into a White Spot! We thought we would give them some time to get things sorted before going, I figured a few months was enough right? Wrong. The servers are literally ALL children with no experience, it almost seemed like they were all... related or high school kids working for free/work experience from Burnaby North? Whoever did the hiring should be fired themselves, hire EXPERIENCED people, not how they look or what race they are! Anyways beyond that, the food seemed pretty decent but if you cant serve people properly, the food doesn't matter that much. The sad part is there isnt much options in the area so theyll still probably do well but everyone I know who has been there agrees with me, HIRE OLDER SERVERS THAT KNOW THEIR STUFF. FINGER NAIL IN MY MILK SHAKE!! My family and I went to the Whitespot at this location. We've done so for years. However, this time, I was totally grossed out when I was drinking my chocolate milk shake, and spat out a huge chewed off finger nail! The server felt bad, and comped our meal. The manager filed a report, and took my contact info, but didn't do a follow up, and I never received a call or message from him again or from the head office. I had to leave immediately because I was throwing up in their bathroom. Now I don't trust that this establishment is following the BC Food Safe guidelines. I still shiver when I think of how disgusting my milkshake experience was. I don't think I'll be going back any time soon! read more

Worst white spot ever. How excited I was when I found out one was opening right by our place in North Burnaby that would have more parking than the one on North Road, and perhaps less wait. You will always manage to get a table right away, but it is downhill from there. I have been there enough times now to say they are consistently THAT slow. If you get H'angry like me, you will not bode well. You might get red in the face and start throwing things while waiting for that waitress who first introduced herself to show up and actually take your order. THEN you will be waiting, and waiting, and waiting (I could have gone back to the kitchen and made my own burger by then) for your food, which hopefully will come out in the fashion that you ordered it in (no mayo on a burger? Is that too much to ask? I am asking for LESS, not MORE! how demanding is that? Also I am paying quite a lot of money for a burger so I don't think a simple request is asking that much. 50 minutes or so later you might start getting your food, and don't let the emptiness fool you. It has nothing to do with how busy they are, how complicated or simple your order is, or even whether you were polite or not. I have NO idea why it is so slow, so many months after they have first opened. By the time the food comes you will be scarfing it down like you have been through a famine, and then the waiting game comes for the bill. We were promised the bill, and were waiting so long some manager came by and asked us what we were waiting for. Ironically I was using a gift certificate for prior bad service. Was there for brunch today. Ordered the prawn and avocado flat bread to split with my daughter. We waited 40 minutes for our food. The flatbread came to the table with 5 baby shrimp, brown avocado pieces and a scanty amount of greens and tomato sauce. I couldn't fathom how it was priced at $14.99 so we complained to our server. She offered to bring another and I said No so she asked us if we wanted something else from the menu. We chose a clubhouse which turned out to be very good. I appreciated the server's quickness to solve the issue but it kind of turned me off WS for awhile. Will never entertain ordering any flatbread from WS again. In Vancouver you don't expect a salad and not just any salad, a Salmon salad to be terrible! The Salmon salad from whitespot was terrible. The candid salmon was smelling a awful( did not touch mine), the spinach was tired looking, the goat cheese was non existent, the red onion was too much and cut in tiny pieces, and fresh strawberries very few and two were mouldy and not eatable! I came to eat here with family as we reserved a table for 11 (3 kids). You'd think White Spot would be fairly standardized but it is a franchise so there can be variability in terms of food and level of service. We chose this location because it's a bit bigger than the nearby Gilmore location and doesn't get as busy. I had the Sriracha Goat Cheese Turkey Burger. The burger was great but it was poorly made. I cut the burger in half so it was easier to eat. The first half I ate I thought to myself, sriracha? I didn't taste any sriracha at all. Then I got to the second half and there was the kick that you'd expect. So it seems to me that the "burger artist" was just lazy and squeezed a bit on one side so it never spread to the whole burger. That or they are working so quickly that quality control suffers. This seems like something small but it was noticable, especially when you're paying $15 for a burger and the name of the burger contains the word sriracha. The second thing was that my little niece got a pirate Pak (throwback to when we all used to get a pirate paks as kids). Her parents wanted to swap out the ice cream dessert for another vegetable side (luckily at four years old she still doesn't know, not sure how long that can go on though). Unfortunately the staff totally dropped the ball and gave her just a mac and cheese, one vegetable side and nothing else. We had to ask for it. At least they apologized. Lastly, this one really baffles me. One of the servers who brought the food over spilled a glass of water. His solution? I'll get you some napkins. Ummm ok?! He didn't even offer to clean it up even though it was his fault. Thanks for the napkins though. This is a nice White Spot that doesn't get too crowded but they need to improve their service and quality control. It would make for a much better experience. read more

This is my local White Spot and the last two meals have been less than satisfying. Today we went for lunch and at first the hostess was going to seat us in the bar section before we requested and received a booth. We ordered milk with our tea and got cream. I ordered the White Spot breakfast that included 2 eggs, bacon, sausages, endless smached potatoes and toast. Unfortunately the sausages had an initial rancid taste. My wife tasted them and agreed they were un edible. I mentioned this to the waitress who then brought over the manager. Manager apologized and offered more bacon. I asked her to taste the sausage as I got the feeling she did not think I was being honest. She declined and said she would make chef taste them. I have always been a fan of White Spot dating back to the 60's but lately their quality has been hit and miss. read more
