An excellent way to ring in my Womb Exit Anniversary. My top-tier chum who literally went to the…read moreschool of hospitality brought me here last Sunday for a birthday dinner. I picked it knowing the solid rep of Jessica's Cafe in Plainfield, so I can't say I was stunned to find out this was awesome - but given the expectations coming in, this probably even slightly exceeded them. Pretty cool. This was literally my first time in Fanwood, unless you count taking the Raritan Valley Line through here to Hunterdon County back in the day (I don't think it counts). The weather was a little iffy throughout the day, which I'm assuming played a factor in the town feeling a little desolate when we showed up. It reminds me a lot of the Newport neighborhood in JC - super, super gentrified. Maybe it's just the section where Jessica's is though, right across the street from the train station. We parked over there, not entirely sure if that was naughty or not, but given our outdoor seating, we easily could have peeped a cop or tow truck driver before anything terrible happened (I think it was fine, given it was a Sunday night). All that to say though, I'm not entirely sure where the ideal parking is if it's not at the train station. We were only in the restaurant for a minute (enough time to ogle a fridge or freezer of tasty looking meat to the right of the entrance), so I can't speak to the spiffiness of the interior. Even though rain was a possibility, it seemed worth the risk to stay outside due to the temps and large umbrellas. No regrets in that regard. We were seated promptly and ordered shortly thereafter, while also receiving some decent bread and butter with a bit of olive oil drizzle. Quite tasty. Somehow it's become an informal tradition, but if it's on the menu we usually get the Grilled Octopus. One of the better ones we've had. Nice and crispy (texture to me is the key to this one) and seasoned well. The accompanying potatoes were a nice touch to the proceedings - would totally get this again. A lot of the other apps looked good too, but someone accidentally made me birthday weenies on the grill earlier, so I couldn't get QUITE as frisky as I normally would. Both of us gave the lamb a long, hard look (and my chum wondered aloud about the ribeye special for the rest of the evening - possibly the one that got away) but I ultimately went with my classic Short Ribs entree. Delicious. Tender, flavorful and the perfect serving size. I was a little nervous that a puree versus mashed would mean the potatoes were too wet or liquidy, but not the case at all - they maintained their relatively solid integrity as far as I was concerned. I forgot to take a picture of dessert, but I got the Creme Brule. Also excellent, and at the perfect temp. I think there may have been a birthday musical accompaniment with that, but it's all a blur. Arguably just as good if not better was the service. Our waiter was super personable and professional, stopping by regularly and just added a hospitable touch to the meal that brought this to the upper echelon for me. Service is king, and it matters - you can't take for granted the ability of your server to essentially riff for two minutes on their menu knowledge, as well as just good-natured banter. Had that in spades. Coming back for sure - Womb Exit Anniversary or not.

This restaurant is located in a small group of street lined businesses, with parking along the street. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating on their patio. It was a chilly day, so we opted to sit inside. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive our entire visit. We ordered the Pad Garlic and Pad King lunch specials, both with chicken and hot spice level. The lunch specials come with a salad dressed with a sweet dressing. Our food was out in record time and was piping hot, so it's definitely a spot if you are in a time crunch- hello power lunch! We both thought our dishes were packed with flavor and although they had heat, we could have went with Thai Spicy. If we were local, this would definitely be our go-to spot!

1 Star - Absolute Rip-Off. Check Your Bag Before You Leave…read more I'd give them zero stars if I could. I ordered a large Tom Kha soup with both shrimp and chicken for pickup, and apparently, "large" means "half-empty" in their kitchen. To make matters worse, they completely forgot the chicken. I paid full price for a premium, multi-protein soup and ended up with a container of half-filled broth and a couple of sad shrimp. Charging customers full price for missing ingredients and cutting corners on portion sizes is a blatant rip-off. If you're going to order from Tasty Thai, bring a measuring cup, a magnifying glass, and check your food at the counter before you walk out. Absolutely ridiculous.

4.5 out of 5…read more The vibe here is unexpectedly chill for a pizza spot, almost steakhouse-like, with a huge wood-fired brick oven anchoring the room as the centerpiece. I sat at the bar and was handed a short, simple menu. Service was exceptional the whole night, attentive without being overbearing. Started with the Caesar salad, deconstructed and nothing like the classic version. The dressing and nuts gave it a nice twist that worked. The meatballs were a mixed bag. Texture was spot on, and the basil added something nice, but overall they were bland. Needed more garlic, and I couldn't pick up the umami from the parm or the saltiness from the prosciutto. More of both would've balanced it out. The pizza was the real showstopper. Perfect char, perfect chew on the dough. The habanero pie with pork loin had just the right amount of spice, every bite landed. Overall, I'd go back, and next time I'm trying the truffle oil on the habanero

I…read moresaw that there was a new restaurant in this shopping center and decided to give it a try. Cleanliness: The restaurant was clean with no trash on the tables, by the condiment station, or on the floor. The staff: They are friendly and helpful with the menu items. They have a lot of patience and update you on your order. Prices: The prices range from $5.99 and up depending on what you order. The best part is that if you get a combo then the price is worth it. The combo comes with your entree, French fries and a soda. Chicken Platter Combo: This was an amazing platter and was absolutely delicious. The rice, chicken, tomatoes, lettuce was good with the sauce that they put on top. French Fries: They were cooked to a crisp so when you bite it, it has a crunch. Chicken Cheesesteak: This was not what I had expected. The bread was soft, the chicken was cooked to perfection, and the cheese was melted on top of the chicken. The sauce gave the cheesesteak some flavor; however, I probably would not get this again. Overall: This is a good place to grab lunch or dinner with the platters. Their credit card machine sometimes does not work well so it is better to pay in cash. I would probably come back to try other platters, wraps, or even the chicken sandwiches. I just do not recommend the cheesesteaks if you are expecting something great.

When entering from Grove Ave, it's easy to be a little bit confused because the restaurant is stuck in the corner behind what used to be Stop n Shop and such. The shopping center is certainly very empty without the anchor grocery store, so it's often quite easy to miss this. Knowing that the restaurant opens dinner service around 6, we got here just before then and realized that the staff was already accepting people beforehand. That was great. As my girl is from Goa, this was a place that was on her mind for some time to try. Likewise, I wanted to try some authentic Maharastrian food too. To start, we ordered a mango lassi & a Kaira Panha. I stuck with the former, which was great. My girl enjoyed her drink too, though def not my first preference. For an appetizer, we ordered the Kothimbir Wadi. This was quite tasty and well enjoyed with the chutney. Certainly authentic. For the main meal, my girl enjoyed her fish fry. I got the Veg. Kohlapuri along with Garlic Naan. The Kohlapuri was good and was easily able to finish it. The only small gripe we had was that the tomato-based curry kinda reminded me of a North Indian korma that you'd get from other establishments. My girl noted this and do wonder whether this is truly the proper way of making and enjoying a Vegetarian Kohlapuri. She noted it was meant to not have a tomato base and was supposed to be a bit more flavorful. As this was my first time, I'm not sure if I can fully validate this, but it's worth a question. Nonetheless, I can't complain about the food. Just simply a curiosity on my end.
