Coming from central Jersey, I've become very accustomed to spending time in Asian cafes and bakeries. This one reminded me a lot of the ones I'd see back home, and it's got a great vibe. There's plenty of tables and seats to just hang out, catch up with friends, or just get your own work done. I came here after a long afternoon of touring Atlanta because I'd heard Doraville was home to the Buford HIghway, which is literally full of Asian run businesses so this was my first stop before tackling all the other food spots in town. I only ordered an ice coffee to rejuvenate myself, but I wish I'd tried a small cake/pastry. They all looked very good and were a great price! read more

White Windmill discontinued the chocolate croissant that they used to sell, which is a HUGE disappointment. That croissant was unique and irreplaceable. Now, they sell generic pastries that you can find elsewhere for a fraction of the price. Shame on you White Windmill for discontinuing the production of the chocolate croissant. Nice cafe! They have a good amount of traffic and some delicious looking pastries. I came for a cake, which I felt the flavor didn't live up to the presentation. I just didn't bite into the cake and say "yum". I kept biting trying to say "I like it", but can't say it was bad either. Which is the only reason they are down 1 star. I came to White Windmill when The Sweet Spot was closed as I was attending a party and wanted to pick up an Asian dessert. I am not too big on sweets which is why I'm such a fan of the Asian style. I was really undecided on what to order so I got the strawberry cake and a box of macarons. Both were a huge hit at the party. For me personally, I've had Asian cake that has been slightly better, which is why it's not a five star. I love White Windmill although it's a bit of a trek for me (which is why I don't go as often as I would like). Service is always great here - drinks come out pretty quick no matter how busy they are! They offer a lot of drink options here too. Seating is also plentiful - it gets a little loud as a lot of people come here to socialize, so if you're looking for a quiet spot to study, this isn't the best place unless you go when it's not crowded. While I haven't had the chance to try any of their baked goods yet, their sandwiches and desserts are delicious. The ingredients definite taste very fresh - I like how you can watch them make your sandwich too. I haven't tried a sandwich I didn't like. I was looking for somewhere to eat close to the immersive experience on Buford Hwy. I found this listed and decided to try it. The food is good. Had a pizza baugette which was good. The regular coffee is some of the best I've ever had. The pastries are great! I had a cream cheese danish which was heavenly! Still have a chocolate caramel tart to try. The pastries and treats at this bakery are some of the best I have ever had! I've been to this place twice and I am pleasantly surprised by how consistently fresh the pastries are. What I love is that you can grab a basket to choose as many treats as you please. They have croissants, baguettes, sweet and savory breads, cake slices, macarons, madeleines, you name it....they have it. Not only that, but they have samples of most the treats so you can taste exactly what you are intending on ordering. There are a couple of highlights for me - the macarons, the almond croissant, and also they have this bun filled with a sweet cream cheese, walnuts, and cherries. I have sampled most of the other pastries they serve, and they all are amazing! The macarons they have a slightly larger than what I am used to, which I love. They have more of a cream filling and the flavors that I really enjoy are the passionfruit and strawberry. Parking is also plentiful. There are usually a lot of people here, but I have never had an issue finding a spot. I will definitely be returning to this bakery to try more of their pastries. I stumbled upon this bakery after meeting a prospective client here. What a gem! Usually you find a good bakery tucked off in East Atlanta or in a local neighborhood so what a surprise to find on Buford Highway. On busy Buford Highway, they have their own parking lot and usually it's always busy or they have a few people working or meeting friends. I love how fresh everything is as well as how the menu changes seasonally. Like I had a sausage cheese croissant bread..soo good! Craved it and went back, other things were on the menu. Although I was disappointed, the craving was replaced by something else new and delicious! I love trying new flavors and food concepts..White Windmill does not miss! Great environment and ambiance and I really wish I could say the same thing about the food here. The fish-looking cake desserts and the bingsu we ordered were so sweet that they were unbearable... I was excited about the bingsu because it had the snowflakes texture I was looking for, but it was sooo sweet that I can barely finish a few spoons and they melt so fast into a huge bowl of extremely sweet melted ice cream... The cute fish-looking cakes didn't have the right texture either. Not sure about other items on the menu that we didn't get to order, but I'm guessing they are all going to be very sweet. White Windmill is getting way too popular. I went late (after 10pm) on a random Wednesday night and not a single table was open. We ended up sharing a table and making new friends. I can't remember if this or the now closed Bakery Cafe Maum was the first Korean bakery/cafe I visited in Atlanta. There are several White Windmill locations in the metro area. This is the original. Of the ones I've been to so far (here, Pleasant Hill, and Steve Reynolds), this one is easily the busiest. It offers the most selection in terms of baked goods (bread, cookies, sweet treats), free samples, and cakes. The cakes are pretty impressive. Some are quite detailed and as such, can carry a relatively hefty price tag. I like eating their free bread samples and my favorite baked goods to munch on include the cream-filled bun, red and green bean paste buns, and the mochi buns. The cream-filled bun is light and sweet. The bean paste buns are heavier and include lots of bean paste. Some people don't like this, but I love it. The mochi buns are hollow, but the inside of the breading is coated with sweet stuff. Yummy. I've ordered the iced house coffee quite a few times and it's a very popular drink here. So popular that they just have a pitcher of it ready to pour immediately for anyone who orders it. The teas here are served in ornate tea cups. Before Quickly opened last year, White Windmill was probably the best place to go for bubble tea on Buford Highway. I haven't had the bubble tea here since Quickly opened, but I did order it quite a bit before then. Unlike the White Windmill on Pleasant Hill, which has atrocious bubble tea, this location makes a decent one. Quickly is still better (and cheaper), though. All of the White Windmills are nicely decorated and have a variety of comfortable seating. This location even has outdoor seating. This place provides a warm, cozy atmosphere. Some nights, they even bring in a live band to play music. White Windmill can get crowded so parking can get tight. Getting around inside can also be snug, especially around the baked goods section, since the aisles are small. However, I'm still a fan and would go here, Mozart, or the new Milano bakery if I needed a good special occasion cake. Free Wi-Fi too, of course. read more

If you're a discount freak like me, best time to go is 10pm when the breads and pastries are 40% off. They don't always display the "40% off" sign - I confirmed with the cashier that the sale happens everyday ... but you might ask just to be sure. But even without the sale, their breads and pastries are very good and they probably have the widest selection in Atlanta. My favorite thing to get is the bag of sweet potato pastries that look like rugelach's and have black sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Yum. I have been here multiple times since finding out about it. The samples are great so you can see which ones are good before you purchase it. Overall their quality of bread is way better than sweet hut in my Opinion. Like we needed more food after a gull Korean lunch. Well, here we were, at an Asian bakery down the street on my friend's recommendation. Yes, it had a different atmosphere than Sweet Hut. I felt welcomed with all the details in holiday decorations and decor. Looking up, I saw the grandeur of the three chandeliers over the long shared table. People sitting with the tech gadgets sipping and munching the delightful bites made with love. There were endless wrapped packages of cookies, breads and buns!!! As we walked in circles, they started setting out samples of my favorites!! Then I saw something behind the counter that caught my eyes! Fish cookies!! They are baked on a waffle iron and stuffed with red bean paste or custard. They are $7 for 10. So I ordered 10 of each to bring home with me. They came out piping hot, so we had to sample a couple before I boxed them. In my opinion, hands downs the best bakery in the area. Let me first start by saying that i frequent this Buford Highway site regularly and enjoy the coffees and fresh baked goods yet I recently just switched to using almond milk versus regular milk. I purchased an iced cafe mocha for $5.40 and wanted almond milk as a substitute. I was floored at the additional charge of $1.00. Then I thought maybe It's a superior almond milk. I also appreciate that there were ingredient lists for all the pastries. The fish-shaped red bean buns are SO delicious. I honestly come here just for that. The staff make them to order, so that they are piping hot from the iron, and stuffed with red bean filling that is just the right level of sweetness. These are best enjoyed hot, when they are slightly crispy on the outside, but they make a pretty darn good snack the day after too! As far as COVID-specific precautions, all the staff are always masked, there is a clear plastic divider between the staff and the customer (i.e over the counter), and I have actually seen the staff ask a customer to move back to respect social distancing... which is awesome! Highly recommend. And if you can order ahead via phone, too, in case you don't want to spend too much time in the actual establishment itself. read more

This bakery was easily comparable to some of the better Asian bakeries we've been to in NYC, Chicago, Toronto, and Vancouver. There's a large selection of cakes and pastries, and the best part is they offer samples of many of their items! As a diehard Costco fan, this warms my heart. Prices are reasonable. Super cute bakery/cafe with a very cozy French style! There are numerous options of baked goods, which we focused on. They even had samples out for most of the goods. We ended up getting a red bean bun ($3) and coffee bun ($2). Both were delicious and the red bean bun was filleddddd! White Windmill is a great cozy cafe to catch up with friends, get some work done, or enjoy being lazy on a weekend afternoon with a coffee and light pastry. I've even conducted some business meetings here. Immediately upon walking in to White Windmill for the first time, one will likely be awed by the atmosphere and decor. The establishment is designed to provide you a setting with every need you could possibly think of--high top tables, large tables for group meetings of 5 or 6, low cushioned chairs for chatting, smaller tables for students, and even a long sofa in the back. The coffee and teas here are good, but nothing unique or very special. Same thing goes for their pastries. They have pastries aplenty, lining three separate long tables with the addition of their cooler display of cake slices. Although I believe they are constantly trying to improve their selection by offering new products (I've seen some more items appear in the last few months), a fallacy to their treats is most everything has a like texture and tastes very similar. Because they have so much selection lined up and sealed in bags that are not air-tight, I've sometimes experienced my pastries to be dry. The only other nuance about this place is it seems to get extremely crowded during peak times on weekends, so much so that there are times when seats run out. Because of the chatter, it can get awfully hard to focus on studying of any kind. Aside from those two small criticisms, this place pulls off the coffee/cafe/treats/hangout very well. My recommendation? Try the Cream Cheese Rolls (you won't regret it, they usually sell out early) and an Iced White Mocha, kick back, and enjoy! read more

In addition, they offered samples of each bread option! I was very surprised they would offer samples for each option - especially coming from New York where something like this will never happen. I had the Milk Bun, the Cream Bun and the Hazelnut Latte and they were both amazing. I do wish the Hazelnut Latte was hotter - it was slightly above lukewarm temperature when the barista handed the latte over to me. The customer service is courteous and efficient. They also have a little sandwich counter~ the one thing I like about this place is that they offer alot of samples so you can try items before committing to a full purchase. I recommend trying it before buying the whole item! They also have the Korean version of taiyaki ( boongaubbang). I absolutely love them! I always get them when I'm at white windmill. Not even a hidden gem in Doraville. It's hiding in plain sight. Located directly next to Towers liquor store. I decided to walk over one day to see what the crowed lot was about. To my surprise a great Asian bakery, lunch options and great tea and coffee. My very first visit I had a salad, a wrap, and two (not one but two) ginger honey teas. I attend here frequently.
