Stay away! Do not waste your time and money with this business. Went to have 5 tires taken off one set of rims and installed onto another. There were 3 kids working there with no real leadership. They seemed to just make the prices up on the spot. I was very clear to them of what I needed done, we agreed on a price, they said there were two cars in front of me, so I waited. I watched two friends of theirs roll on in and cut in front of me. I thought, whatever, I just need this done so I didn't say a word. When the do finally get to me, they attempt to take the front wheels off without jacking the car up all the way. Once the last lug nut came off, the vehicle shifted and surprised it didn't damage the lugs. So they have front to tires off, deflated and beginning to remove from rims. Next thing I know, two of the boys are whispering to each other and one comes back over to me saying now it is going to be $200 MORE than the original price. To me it felt like they waited to have my car taken apart then tried to hustle more money out of me. I was even willing to pay a little more, since I've already wasted an hour here, but he wouldn't take anything less than the now price that has more than doubled. Little does he know, I'll take a stand on principle any day. I would have drove away on my rims just to prove that they aren't going to hustle me. I demanded them to put my old tires back on, which they did, but aired them back to only have of the required psi. All that to say, don't get hustled by this place, there is a much better place that does tires just down the road. If you go south on Austin Ave, it'll be on your left about a mile away. I actually had a good vehicle inspection experience with them last year. Service was quick, the staff was nice, I have no complaints. This year, I tried calling the store and there was a recording and I didn't want to leave a message as my registration had expired, and I was in a hurry. These guys make 'adulting' feel pretty darn manageable. Vehicle inspection needed to be done. Went to several places before finding this one. Two gentlemen here- was greeted immediately and they engaged in genuine conversation with my 6 year old. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this business. So I know places don't make much profit, if any, on state inspections. That being said, I still wanted to support a local small business when I needed mine. My experience started off with a very unpleasant greeting by the mechanic when I walked into the shop. I just figured the attitude and zero care was from a bad day or something so I just brushed it off. I can handle people being rude for no reason or at least I think I have thick skin at times. His wife decided to come into the shop and chat with me a bit while he was out checking the miles and other things on my truck. She seemed way nicer than her husband by the way. While her and I were speaking we both noticed her husband driving somewhat irratic and squeaking my brakes as he was going across the parking lot. I just had a feeling he didn't let up my parking brake when he took off so his wife and I ran out to check on that. He immediately told me my brakes were bad and that I will fail the inspection just due to my parking brake. He said that my parking brake had to keep my truck at a complete stop while he sat there and slams on my gas pedal. My truck doesn't move while in drive and the parking brake engaged so it functions well enough to not have me rolling down hills when I'm parked. Not only am I sure that slamming on my gas when that brake is engaged is not good for the brakes but I have had my truck for 4 years without any of this being an issue in previous years too. Let you know my truck is a v8 5.7L Toyota tundra with a tow package so of you press the gas pedal the truck WILL move. The employee told me he could charge me and fail me or I could take my keys and get my brakes fixed. So from there, I took my keys and went straight to firestone which is right down the street. The experience I had was much more pleasant. The dude at whitestone was just unnecessary on how he talks to people. He didn't have to be a dick to me when I did nothing other than try to bring him my business. I have read in other forums that the parking brake does need to withstand some torque but not the amount this dude was "failing" me for. Firestone passed my inspection with no question. Was greeted with a smile and seemed pleased for me to be there. It is crazy how different the two places were and after looking up reviews from this place I saw how others felt the same way I did. Long story short, the employee is an asshat and most likely will make stuff up to get out of an inconvenient state inspection if you need that done. Firestone was a way better experience! read more

First and for most I have never in my life experienced such blatant flippancy. I went to get my vehicle inspected and for some reason my insurance card was already reflecting January's date. I was immediately greeted nasty and rude the worker said " you can't use that, and I'm not arguing" keep in mind I haven't even showed him my ID card but yet nor asked him a question he was so nosy and was looking in my phone. I mean how asinine can you be?! So I called my insurance company and was on the phone with them getting my current month Id card. While I'm on the phone with my insurance company he comes in unprofessional ear hussling and this is where I feel aggrieved! So I'm on the phone with the insurance company, telling them how his rapport was with me and he assumes I'm talking to him or something and butts into my conversation with "if I'm so rude you can have a great day kick rocks" keep in mind that this man ain't even the damn owner! So I politely told him "excuse me I wasn't even talking to you I'm on the phone". It's so egregious when other minorities disrespect and treat other minorities less than! I cold-called Whitestone early Friday morning with a flat tire and missing the right tools to change it. Jeremiah came right away, with special tools, and got me rolling in minutes. At the shop both Jeremiah and the guy fixing the tires did a great job of patching my tire, offering help and getting me on the way quickly. I thought they charged a fair price and I would return. I missed the owner but the young men left in his place were doing a nice job for all. read more

Avoid this place if you are taking any precautions against COVID. Took my 79 year-old mom's car there to be inspected. Neither of the men was wearing a mask. One approached the car without a mask. So, I asked him to put on a mask, well, he pulled up a thin single layer neck gaiter. Anyone who reads the paper knows that doesn't protect against spreading COVID. When I said that was insufficient, he just said something like "Well, good day." and walked away. Clearly does not want any business. read more

This might actually be my favorite business in Georgetown. Weird, right? I mean, it's a tire place; what's the big deal? The big deal is Mat, the owner. He's a bright, friendly guy, and he's humble, hard-working, and conscientious too. I'm a guy who does almost all of the work on my cars myself, but I don't do tires, and Mat is EXACTLY the kind of person I trust to work on my vehicle. A bunch of year ago I had a tire place in Cedar Park over-torque my lug nuts so badly that when I went to pull that tire a month later to change my shocks, I had to shear 3 of the 5 lug bolts off just to pull the tire. A real pain in the ass that could have been easily avoided if the guy who put the tire on hadn't been lazy. I don't have to worry about that with Mat. Why not? Because Mat has a torque wrench, and he knows how to use it. Could he skip making sure that every lug nut is threaded properly and is torqued to spec? Sure - it would be easier for him, and 98% of his customers wouldn't know the difference - but he doesn't skip it because, as he put it the first time I met him: "Man, it's just the right way to do it. I've got daughters, and I wouldn't want them getting stranded somewhere any more than I'd want you to get stranded somewhere. It only seems logical that I'd take the same care with your car as I would theirs." Every time I leave Whitestone Tire, I find myself thinking: "Man, it's too bad they just do tires and inspections - it's gonna be awhile before I get to come back here." Incompetence and Stupidity. That about sums up Whitestone Tire Center. My wife and I dropped off her vehicle on a Saturday at 11:57AM for an inspection. We came back at 1:30PM to find a note in the window saying they closed at noon, locked her car in the garage- and we could not get it out until Monday!!! Why didn't this idiot tell us they were about to close when we came and dropped it off? He appeared to possibly be a little slow (mentally) and not overly bright. Then he didn't respond to our attempts to reach their "emergency" phone number and blamed it on bad reception. What a moron! To top it off he failed the car on the inspection for a worn wiper blade of all things! Go here if you are in need of a severe headache. We try to support small local business but next time we'll just go to one of the chains and deal with less B.S. read more

I recommend this place for inspections. The service was quick and efficient. They're busy so you won't get all the fluff that comes with normal customer service and that's okay. People come during their lunch hour for inspections and need to be in and out! Our truck didn't pass inspection because of a fuse. He told us which one it probably was and where to go get it fixed. I'll first say that the location is convenient, and it's relatively clean. So there's that. I went in for a state inspection. The first thing that struck me was the hardcore, former Marine (judging by his hat) employee that seemed more concerned about looking hard than being friendly. OK, whatever. My car failed the state inspection thanks to the window tint from the former owner, and Mr. Marine told me what the deal was. So that part wasn't so bad. I got the window tint issue resolved the same day and brought the car back. This time, I got to deal with a younger guy who had all the conversational ability of a worn out boot. I'm not there to socialize but for crying out loud, it doesn't cost a thing to be friendly. Anyway, I told him that the issue was fixed and I needed to get the inspection finalized. He took the car and was back in less than 10 minutes. All done. So what's bad about that, other than the dry attempt at customer service? I get in my car and there are white flakes all over my (black) dashboard. Like, ALL over. A complete mess. Apparently when he scraped the old sticker off the windshield it disintegrated and he made no attempt to clean up his mess. Aughh. I thought about going back inside and asking for a rag or something to clean it up but then I just said screw it and left. It's a shame because they are close to my house, but I won't be back. There are too many other places with good customer service that take price in their work--even a lousy state inspection--for me to support this business with my money. Took my car that I bought brand new from the dealer 2 years ago to be inspected and they failed it for tinted windows (which was how the dealer sold me my vehicle). Took it to the dealership and they passed it with no problems. Dealership and a bunch of other people in town told me after the fact how shady some of the guys at this business can be. So first impressions are lasting impressions. I pulled up today, 23 July 2019, and a man immediately says, "We're closed come back tomorrow." The time was 5:09, and the sign AND internet said they closed at 5:30. So, since I own three vehicles: a Volvo, a CRV, and a Nissan Sentra, I most likely will be taking my business elsewhere. Don't take your vehicle to a shop that doesn't perform repairs. If the inspection fails according to them yet the repair shop says it's fine, you will end up paying twice the amount you should have. Whitestone has an extremely over zealous inspection process that WILL cost you more money if you have an older than 'brand new' car! read more

I have a very disappointing experience at Whitestone Tire Center this week. I took my truck in to get the state inspection done. I was told by the owner, Matthew Canava, that my truck had failed due to the window tint being too dark. Whitestone Tire Center is also offers window tinting and Matthew was quick to quote me of what it would cost to remove and/or re-tint my windows to what he thought would be legal. I left without getting a sticker. I took the truck to the police station in Georgetown and had a police officer look at it. His first comment was that the truck looked legal. He did not have an electronic tint meter available but using a card with some varied shading placed on the window he determined that if he had stopped me he would not think of ticketing me for a window tint violation. I returned to Whitestone Tire Center to request to have the windows retested; their meter showed it as a fail, reading 22-23%, with a pass being not less than 25. Mr Canava then suggested I take the truck to the DPS office on Pine St in Georgetown to have them look at it. He indicated that if they passed it he would give me a sticker. At the DPS office; State Trooper Smith tested the truck windows three times. The readings were 32, 30 and 25% - all passing. I took a photo with my 'phone of the window tint meter in place displaying a passing test number. Trooper Smith also commented that the truck looked legal. I returned to Whitestone Tire Center and told them what had happened at DPS and showed him the photo. His answer that was unless I had a letter from DPS, on DPS letterhead, he could not pass my truck. I returned to DPS and left a message with them to contact the DPS auditor, requesting such a letter. The DPS auditor called me back within an hour. She said this was not the first complaint she had received with respect to window tint failures at Whitestone Tire Center. She asked me to meet her at Whitestone Tire Center the following morning so she could test my truck with her meter back to back with Mr. Canava's. The following day my truck passed the inspection with both the official DPS meter and the meter used by the inspectors at Whitestone Tire Center. My truck was given a pass and I left with a sticker. At no time did Matthew Canava offer any explanation as to why my legal tint would fail one day and pass the next. Nor did he bother to apologize to me for his "mistake" that caused me to return to his business 3 times over 2 days. After speaking to the DPS auditor, it is clear to me that Whitestone Tire Center has failed other customer's cars and trucks for supposed window tint violations as my compliant was not the first she had received with respect to this particular problem. I have been taking my cars to whitestone for years, they are a great group of guys. they recognize me and greet me in a friendly way everytime. i buy and sell classic cars and have to get a out-of-state inspections done on some of my buys.. they know the routine and help me out everytime.
