Mixed reviews on Drinks and Food. Sangria my wife had just tasted weird. Long Islands were good. Clam Strips, and Fries looked like they came from a bag. My Collards tasted like they were from a can, and had large stems. My grilled Mahi was good, but I very seldom eat grilled fish. Hush Puppies had a thick crust on them, I wished was thinner. My wife, daughter, and I went last night. I got a seafood combo with fried shrimp and broiled scallops. My wife got cajun grilled shrimp. I forgot what our daughter got. The food was fine. My sides (slaw and red beans and rice) were better than average. (Sides at places like this can often be pretty sad...these were good.) We were seated right away on an early Wed evening. We ate out on the patio, which was fine, but be aware that smoking is allowed out there. (Not sure about inside.) Service throughout our meal was top notch...very friendly and efficient waitress. The place appears to be very family and kid friendly. I gather that this place is a Jax culinary "must". I'd go again and recommend it to anyone. read more

My family and I ate at Whitey's tonight April 12th 2021 our food was terrible it was overcooked and it taste like old cooking all we have eaten there many times and enjoyed it we will not be back it was terrible. I had a combo platter of grilled Mahi and fried oysters, with a great Caesar salad and yummy sweet potato. My husband had the soft shell crab (3) and cheese grits and homemade potato chips. We also had an appetizer of fried pickles, which were made inhouse. We hoped to order the CheeseCake Factory red velvet cheesecake, but were told they no longer had that and didn't know it was still online on their website. We got their peanut butter cheesecake instead, which was no where near the other. But I have to say...that was the only disapointment. Everything was great. It was worth the 22 mile drive. Delicious! I had the Blackened Shrimp dinner and my husband had the fish and chips. The portions were enough to fill us up. The bonus was the crispy hush puppies on our plates. The downer was that we ordered an appetizer which was not delivered before our dinners so we ended up canceling it. It's obvious this place has many of years of history in the area by the many pictures on the wall. Overall a good place when you want to eat local. read more

This has been the worst experience at a restaurant we have ever had. We called an hour ahead so they would be able to seat our party, once we arrived there were no seating available. Once we did finally get seated we did not get served drinks for at least the first 30 minutes, then received no food after being there for 3 hours with a half empty restaurant by the time we left (6:30-9:30). There were atleast 5 other tables with the same problem. A waiter was swearing in front of our table about not wanting to sing happy birthday for another table, and at the end charged us over 30 dollars more for things we never ordered. The servers had a terrible attitudes from the beginning and continued to have one the rest of the night with multiple guests. read more

For those of you who have no patience for an establishment that is transparent enough to let you know they are short staffed and there might be a wait, keep scrolling. Whitey's has never disappointed me with food. The outdoor seating is awesome and the servers (yes, there are not as many as "normal", but go literally anywhere else and you'll find a similar struggle) are always very friendly and accommodate as much as they possibly can. I'm so tired of seeing people bash restaurants like Whitey's because people don't want to work! Food, ambiance, music, and especially the owners at Whitey's are all wonderful and I will continue to go back. read more

Great location and atmosphere. Average food. Poor quality waitstaff today. I usually have low expectations of waitstaff working on Sunday's. This is a local favorite place and a long time icon so I maybe expected too much. Waitress was clueless on any menu questions and not seen very often. It was nice to note they had a very large staff present. I would guess over 30 folks working. I made two trips to the bathroom, on both occasions there were staff members cleaning and checking supplies ( it needed neither cleaning or supplies either time). I look forward to coming back and trying again during the peak hours. read more

The food is ok, the staff is great but the restaurant needs a deep clean!!! I am very picky about my food but even pickier if I notice the restaurant is dirty. I was really grossed out on my last visit because there were spider webs hanging from the ceiling fans and the floors were filthy. Today 7/13/22 I took my family to your establishment for my son's birthday. This was the worst experience I ever had at any restaurant. We were the only black family in your restaurant . The waitress was very sweet and professional and apologetic for our food not coming out after sitting at the table for nearly two hours. The only thing we did receive was our appetizers and drinks. There were other family's that came in after us and received their meals before us. Their were other patrons that started to get upset that we never receive our Main course. One couple went and got the manager to say hey this family has been here without their meal. The Waitress did come over to ask us what did we order a for a second time and apologizing about the kitchen staff. But at this point it was time for us to make our exit. I wish we would have had the chance to experience this restaurant, But I guess it wasn't meant for us. I do blame the manager because she walked pass us several times and never asked us if we received our meal or did you order yet. She did nothing. It was when the patron went and got her did she all of a sudden start to apologize and state your meal is on us. I Don't know if it was racially motivated. I absolutely love this place!! We sat at the bar instead of waiting for a table. The bartender and bar keeper kept us talking and entertained with the wait for the food. I tried the Mounds mixed drink which was just like a Mounds bar and delicious. I ordered 2 mahi tacos along with the sampler appetizer for the both of us. The tacos were fresh and tasty with the salsa at the right amount of spiciness. The seasoned fries were so good and addicting with the amazing ranch sauce. Everything in the sampler was fried just right and really good. Calamari was tender, gator tail done perfectly, huge mushrooms and just the right seasoning on the pickles. I really love seafood so this is a great place I go if you do too. The only problem with this is it's a bit too overpriced for my tastes and it smells or -- reaks of seafood.
