Today felt like the beginning of a whole new kind of adventure for us. Susan and I recently bought Sea-Doos with one goal in mind, exploring the coastline and Intracoastal while discovering great waterfront bars and restaurants along the way. This was our first real outing, and with friends joining us, we launched from Palm Valley Outdoors, one of our favorite places, and headed north toward Jacksonville. Our destination was Mavi Waterfront Bar & Grill, a place we had found once before completely by accident while searching for a boat rental location. That first visit left a strong impression on us, so arriving this time by water made the experience even more memorable. Pulling up by Sea-Doo was an adventure in itself. We got our first real chance to test out the bumpers, managed to get docked, grabbed our dry clothes from the watertight compartment, and headed inside feeling like we had already earned our first drink of the day. We chose a table out on the deck near the live band, which turned out to be the perfect spot. The music was phenomenal, the view of the boats added to the atmosphere, and the bit of shade over our table was a welcome bonus on a warm Florida day. It had exactly the kind of laid back waterfront energy we were hoping for. The drinks set the tone right away. Their rum drink is one we would absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys a beachy cocktail with a tropical feel. Susan and her friend ordered the cucumber vodka drink, which was bright, refreshing, and better than expected. Even for someone who is not usually a cucumber fan, it was surprisingly enjoyable. For lunch, Susan ordered the seared ahi tuna, and it was outstanding. Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, it was one of those dishes that immediately stands out. I went with the Philly cheesesteak sub, and while the portion was a little smaller than I typically prefer, the flavor made up for it. It was genuinely excellent, and the French fries were every bit as good as we hoped. We also started with the conch fritters, and this is where Mavi really shines. Conch fritters can be hit or miss, especially when you live close enough to the Bahamas to know what good ones should taste like. Mavi does them right. We had them on our previous visit and made sure to order them again this time, and they absolutely delivered. Our friends also had the Bam Bam shrimp, which looked fantastic and earned rave reviews from the table. What makes Mavi especially appealing is that it feels a little hidden, like one of those places you almost have to know about to find. That only adds to its charm. The drinks are strong, the food is satisfying, the atmosphere is lively, and the waterfront setting makes the entire experience feel like an occasion. For us, this visit was about more than lunch. It was the first stop in what we hope becomes a long series of waterfront adventures by Sea-Doo. Mavi Waterfront Bar & Grill gave us exactly the kind of experience we were looking for, relaxed, fun, flavorful, and just a little more special because we arrived by water. Culinary Duo Verdict: Mavi is well worth seeking out. Go for the conch fritters, stay for the view, and arrive by boat or Sea-Doo if you can, because it makes a great waterfront spot feel even better. read more

The bad news: Had to wait a very long time to be seated, even with reservations and plenty of empty tables. We were seated with just 2 drink menus for 4 of us, but no food menus even though it was dinner hour. After 10 minutes, I finally had to flag down the manager to take our drink order. No wait staff ever appeared. We had to ask for food menus. Food took a very long time to arrive, and was just average overall. Waited over 20 minutes after we finished eating to receive bill. The good news: Options to sit near the band or sit in a quiet part of restaurant. Open air and outdoor dining available with view of marina. Overall: We will not return or recommend this restaurant due to poor service and average food. read more

Stopped in after a long day on the water and had dinner and drinks with some friends. Had an incredible view from our table of the Harbor and enjoyed watching boats go in and out. Pretty big but I had a conversation 3 weeks prior and advised the front door hostess of the date, time and name of the party. The hostess wrote everything down. For some reason today I decided to swing back by and confirm our reservation only to be advised that don't take reservations and they had added music to Thursday night. Humm.. you don't want to know when a party of 12 is coming in? We started arriving around 5:45 and were advised that until half the party had arrived we would not get a seat. So myself and my son bellied up to the bar. Finally the bartender who was cutting his fruit during full service saw us. 1 Corona and 1 Bluemoon. Bill was presented and it was $26.00. Excuse me you charged me $20.00 for a Corona. An act of God to get it corrected. Finally enough members of our party arrived that we were taken to our table. Bench seating on one side and chairs on the other. But, but , but there was a private party going on in an event space steps away. Kids were running the bench and it was loud and confusing. Finally a waitress arrived. Edine she was rude and surely. We decided to order appetizers for the table while waiting for our friends and those just joining order drinks. Appetizers came out wrong and the runner who was placing them could not understand English. Still no drinks. Off to find a manager only to be told there was not one but he would get head waitress. She promised the moon but still no sweet tea or water refills. Edine after a long disappearance presented herself again took more drink orders. Twenty minutes later no drinks off to find the "head waitress" ( host title nit mine). Incredible again 30 minutes for a drink. We were advised she would get us another waitress. That never happened. We finally ordered food and it did come out correctly. Happy the back of the house can read tickets. Meanwhile we sat with empty glasses and an a scent Edine. The food was adequate but nothing outstanding. The night ended with the tabs that were sourced 2x2. It took forever to receive and pay. What a s!.t show. Mavi you failed. Shame on you! No manager on duty. Terribly trained staff with an attitude. $20 Corona Beers, bartenders with an attitude. Placing a large group by a large event close to children that were not being watched. You deserve this review. We are great patrons and tonight I am sure help make your nightly income. Never ever again. Our group of 12 that meets monthly only patronizes local businesses. First time at Mavi and wow this place is huge. I know this spot has hosted multiple restaurants but I had never been to any till now. It also really lives up to being on the water. So many views. We came in on a Saturday afternoon and had a large party that was planning to show. Mavi does not take reservations but they told us that wouldn't be a problem just let them know when our party starts to arrive. Being the first our our group to arrive we went to the bar to get a drink and wait. I will say their drink prices were pretty good for a Saturday during football season. Draft beers were $5 at most which is had to come by now and many were local. For sure a great spot to drink and watch the game. Once our party arrived we got seated and ordered some more drinks and appetizers. Our waitress and the rest of the staff were very helpful and took good care of us. I know it can be hard rough dealing with a large party that didn't plan ahead. For our appetizer we went went with the Conch Fritters which are served with Mavi Sauce which is similar to a remoulade sauce. I will say these Conch Fritters had a lot of conch in them where was refreshing to see. I will say conch can be chewy so if that's not something you're into maybe you will prefer microscopic pieces of conch. For my entrée I went with the Fried Mahi Sandwich and fries. I can rarely pass up a Mahi Sandwich when it's on the menu since I never get it at home since Ashley does not like fish. The sandwich had a nice big piece of Mahi on it was was nice to see. I will say the batter didn't have a lot of flavor though and the batter feel off of it pretty easily too. The fries were also pretty boring and needed seasoning or some type of sauce. Ashley got the French Dip which she thought was just OK. She didn't like the amount of fatty chewy pieces in it and I also noticed that when I tried it. Another friend got the Crab Cakes which I was able to try since she couldn't finish them and they had tiny shredded pieces of crab in them with a lot of filler do you didn't get the richness I like in crab cake made with Lump Crab Meat or Jumbo Lump Crab Meat. All and all very nice large restaurant with great views, drink prices, very friendly and helpful staff, and great for large parties that plan last minute but just alright food. read more

Located in the JAX Beach area right on the water, in the midst of a marina, you'll find Mavi Waterfront Bar & Grill. The waterfront views from Mavi are nothing short of spectacular as it is surrounded by boats. Mavi posts a monthly entertainment schedule on its website using some very good local bands like Pink Paislys. Monkey Wrench, etc. for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. They do not take reservations and the place can become crowded because of its popularity. I found Mavi's menu to be very short, sort of skimpy, but with all one really needs for a good dinner. I started off with an appetizer of their Crispy Calamari, which with its tomato dipping sauce was really fresh and good. And along with that, I had a Bacardi and soda which had in it, a generous pour of rum. For my main I had their 14-ounce...it use to be 16 ounces... Ribeye with roasted red peppers (I skipped the mashed potato). My steak ($29.00) came rare and well-seasoned as ordered and although of a choice cut, it had a great meat flavor and tender texture. Hostess was so sweet and friendly we requested a table where the view is the water they made a table for us across the door to go outside we did not know that it would be warm on that side but the manager and staff made sure we will be comfortable since it was really hot today. They put out more portable fan on the floor turn up the AC fan. Our server name phoebe were very nice made sure we got refill on our drinks right away, always had smile on her face. Although the food took a bit longer due to the size of our group, could not complain with what we all had order delicious food. Extremely disappointing. Went for a Friday night date night, and the place was empty. No atmosphere at all. Food was extremely over priced. Shrimp was rubbery and completely void of flavor. My friends and I had a delightful time here at the outdoor bar. We went for Friday Happy hour and stayed for the band. Decent happy hour prices ($4 we'll drinks). We're from out of town and were looking for a waterside restaurant, and Mavi's location drew us in. The restaurant was empty when we got there at 5:30, which should have been a red flag for us. The setting is lovely, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, but most of the food was inedible. I couldn't eat my meal because the meat was so dry and even the fries were terrible. I Should have left when we saw the nasty plug in a/c units. The calamari tasted like rubber we should have known better from the other reviews. The peel and eat shrimp arnt even from Mayport.. they are frozen gulf shrimp. The Crab cakes were a joke, you can not tell me that they were even 25% crab. How cheap does an owner need to be to cut this many corners. I'm truly embarrassed for the staff and the fact that our waitress had to answer our questions. We definitely won't be back for over priced dog food although I don't even think I'd fed my dog this; he'd probably gag. And how about the dirty dish carts they leave out in the open around tables and by the soda machine and in the hot sun... ew. The short, fat, bald, manager with a red beard and Napoleon complex was terrible. We asked for a refund on some of our inedible food that we didn't touch and we might as well have been talking to a wall. This place used to be an awesome spot with a great view but it seems like the owners or whoever is in charge is driving this place down the drain. This place has so much potential what a shame... Eat here at your own risk. Decided to try this place out since new owner and renovation. It's on the intercostal beside the marina and has beautiful water views. The staff is checking temperatures and there's alcohol gel available upon entering. For appetizers we ordered the octopus ( boiled too soft) and seared Tuna ( highly recommend!) I was looking forward to Brunch but it was not offered (?) so, I ordered the Grouper grilled (also comes blackened). It was served with spinach and leek rice (delicious) and broccoli. The grilled octopus was tender. The tuna had a nice thin sear. For the entree I got the Stuffed Flounder. It's a perfectly cooked crab cake sandwiches between to flounder filets and topped with hollandaise. The flounder had a nice crispy exterior and flaky interior. We were gifted some money so decided to go to Mavi for drinks. It was our fitst time. We sat at the bar. Wifey ordered the chicken wings. She forgot to order all flats. I ordered the beer batter pretzel. She has the traditional banana monitor and I had the mavi margarita with our salt. I wanted salt but wifey wanted to no salt. Everything was everything. Our waiter was attentive. Music was playing outside but it was just ro hot foe us. Our family will plan a triple date in September or October. We will see if Mavi leave up to our first impression. So I brought my mother to this restaurant due to a family friend playing live music on the water on the outside deck and it was Mother's Day. I ordered the crab cakes with rice and broccoli. The meal started off good but as I began to eat I seen a piece of blonde hair ATTACHED TO MY BROCCOLI. I IMMEDIATELY brought it to the attention of the server which no one came after 7 mins. So I chose to walk in to speak with manager. So the manager named " IDA " came over and I explained my concern. He asked if he can remake the meal. Out of concern of it happening again I respond, " No it was ok not too". What happened next just like the unexpected piece of hair in my food. IDA the manager made a facial expression as if I wasn't in my right to advise NO. So noticeably I asked why the facial expression? He wasn't able to give me response. Unbeknown to me a waiter named ( LAINA ) came over ( that wasn't my server) and interjected into the conversation and said well no one has hair in the kitchen! As if that would change my mind. Food has to be passed through a few hands before it gets to the customer. Then began to go back and forth with me in regard to my decision not to get it remade. At this point of feeling attacked on both sides. To the point the manager had to ask her to walk away. Not one time did I raise my voice or curse. Everything I said was concerning and respectful.
