Cute little old timely diner. Lots of small little booths and a few tables, along with seats along the diner bar. Busy on a Saturday morning but we got in with only about a 5 min wait. We had good service, quick and kind waitress and hostess. The food was pretty good. Tonssss of menu options. We went with breakfast food. Whitney Street has very good diner food. The portions are large and prices fair. Does the food stand out? No. Not in the foodie sense. However, it is a truly friendly place with that "everyone knows you name" vibe. The service is outstanding and it isn't crowded like Fred's. Personally I like their biscuits and gravey and my wife goes with the Athena omelet. It comes with a side if pancakes, and our kiddos always enjoy nabbing those. I'm almost afraid to leave a good review, because they are so small, I don't want them to get too crowded. But, they are so great, they deserve the review. The food was homemade, hot, and very tasty. Two breakfasts with tip and tax was $25 and we walked out full and happy. All the employees were friendly and everyone made sure to didn't want for anything. All their menu items looked delicious and we will be back. There are a few booths and tables with chairs that could accommodate different size parties. There are also bar stools. Cute little restaurant situated right off the main drag in downtown Grayslake. I went here with a couple of friends a few days ago (they highly recommended it). I ordered the 3 egg w/ bacon, hash browns, chocolate pancakes and a side of oatmeal. Everything was delicious! This place has a very homely feel to it and the prices are very reasonable. My parents are visiting from Virginia, so we all went out for dinner. The first place we went to was packed so my husband found this place on Yelp. The owner and the other people working here are so nice. They greeted us as soon as we entered. Between the six of us, four adults and two kids, we packed away a ton of food and all of it was delicious. After I was sure I was stuffed the waitress came by and offered desert, saying it came with the meal. I got the apple raisin bread pudding and was very happy with it. The prices are unbelievable. Whitney Street is the local diner in Grayslake for me. In Grayslake you are either a Fred's Diner person or you go to Whitney's if you are looking for local conversation and a stack of pancakes. The breakfasts are classic diner fare with pancakes, waffles and a variety of omelets and grilled fare. The wait staff is friendly and if you want to know what is going on there is someone at the counter who will be talking about it with a morning paper in hand. We like the breakfasts, but they do serve lunch and have a room upstairs for events. read more

Ordered the chunky corned beef hash. It was not corned beef hash. It was either a stir fry or a skillet. Wasn't very good and restaurant was unwilling to make it right. I love this little breakfast spot. Just a charming little local hub for great food. The Athenian omelette is my fav on the menu! Loaded with feta and tomatoes and spinach :) Yum! Their waffles are great too, fresh and made to order, plus they are huge! They have a great little bar to eat at, perfect for when your solo and looking for a quick bite! The food is always piping hot coming out of the kitchen, and also the guys behind the line make the BEST salsa. I love to smother my omelettes with it. I was surprised at the extensive menu. I didn't really need to look I knew what I wanted to try. I love my biscuits and gravy. I was not disappointed. I also cleaned up my daughters breakfast. The menu is simple and the food is good. Perhaps a bit of a greasy spoon type of place, but that is what I like. The wait staff is friendly and have no issues in adjusting the menu items to your needs. The restaurant itself is small and during the summer time, the front dinning area can be a bit warm due to the close proximity of the kitchen. The clientele is made up mostly of the local senior citizens and you can't help but overhear many of their conversations which at times are interesting.
