I came here because I had some time between appts . They have a combo that comes with pulled pork sandwich a side and drink for like 10 bucks . The sandwich was a nice size with sauce slaw and vinegar. The only gripe o had was that the meat did t really taste of anything . Not even the sauce . The baked beans were very good and a Pepsi . There's no seating in those places just a window to order . The staff were very nice and the interior was clean with menus on the wall. Read the reviews and went anyway...glad we did. Not sure what's up with all the negative comments...food was good, decent portions and affordable. I had the pulled pork plate with Mac and cheese/corn bread/potato salad. Pork had awesome flavor and moist. Cornbread had a unique flavor and my friend and I liked it more than expected. Both sides were really good also! I took 5 wings home along with a bottle of their hot bbq sauce. Wings had a hot punch and we're decent but a bit dry. I went here the other day and my usual baked potato tasted great itself, however the entirety of the crust was so burnt it literally tasted like coffee beans. I have 3 people who confirmed this smell . I am grateful to have many sauces, however it was not enough and I was not able to eat any part of the skin, which is disappointing as the shell is the healthiest part of the potato . The cornbread is super tasty! I got the pulled pork and I had to order a second helping of potato salad. Absolutely scrumptious!

The staffs are very polite and the food is delicious. We ordered family pack 2 (pork). For sides, we had Potato salad & coleslaw. Everything was good. Their coleslaw is not mayo based but crisp and right sourness. Very refreshing. My son recommends to put the coleslaw in the bun with BBQ. I tried it and loved it! Whitts is a local BBQ chain that I had no previous experience with. Had lunch with a friend who grew up eating at their restaurants and it was a walk down memory lane for him. For me, a life-time consumer of Kansas City BBQ I'd describe it as sort of a fast-food style of Carolina Q. Mostly pork, heavy on the vinegar, paper plate, sides like beans without smoke and mac & cheese. Nothing to get excited about, but with what they're trying to do I think it hits the mark fine. Just not the heavy smoke nor other options I'm used to in other BBQ joints, some of those including Nashville. Still, a decent option for locals looking for a quick fix. Long live Whitts! read more

I went for lunch on a Wednesday. I placed my to-go order shortly after 11:00 am. What I liked: The gentleman who took my order was fantastic...friendly and competent. Service was excellent...food was delivered very quickly. The vinegar sauce was quite tasty. What I didn't like: Pulled pork sandwich had a piece of aluminum foil within the meat. The cole slaw was not a creamy slaw like I prefer...my fault for not checking about it ahead of time...still, I didn't care for the slaw. The potato salad tasted as though it was made in mass quantities at a factory somewhere. It's doubtful I would go back to this restaurant, especially as there is certainly no shortage of bbq places in this city. read more

My son is a BBQ freak! Day & night- BBQ. We went to this place on a whim - possibly because we just moved here and did not know any better. This is one of those places whoever is behind the counter should guide you through your first time. Nobody did it for us - Kind of a train wreck. We just got the sandwich- pork. My friends liked their foods much better; I suspect that this is one of those places where you need to put lots of sauce & bread on the meat(s) for the proper flavors. I never write negative foodservice reviews because I have been in foodservice for 20 plus yrs and understand the challenges but my experience this evening could not go unnoticed. Drove up and placed order with the young lady working the window. Asked a few questions about special of the day she couldn't answer nor made any effort to find out. Chalked it up to probably new employee and just ordered our usual requesting thick bbq sauce that husband prefers. When I pulled off checked the sauce and was given the thin instead. No big deal, it happens. Pulled up to door to run in but door was locked. Not sure why, but again no big deal. Pulled back around to drive-thru. Another car had pulled up in front of me. I waited for a minute and noticed the attendant and customer were chit chatting. Assumed they were waiting on order to be prepared or possibly knew each other, so I stepped out of car and politely waved to say I didn't get my sauce. Thinking someone could run it out to me. To my complete shock the attendant yells back to me "You need to wait your turn" then the person in the car starts shouting profanity at me out of nowhere. Thinking she didn't recognize I was the one she just served, I tried to remind her only to be met with the most mean spirited language you could image. In disbelief I decided best to pull away, but the manager appeared in the window and said he would bring sauce out. He apologized and offered a free sandwich. I said I don't need a free anything, I just don't want anyone else to be treated that way. I know staffing is a struggle these days but we can't let that be ok EVER! read more

Inconsistancy in a BBQ joint is deadly. Sometimes it's pretty good here, other times just bad. I normally just get some wings to go and they are pretty darn tasty. It's not everyone's style as they are smoked with lots of pepper and spices, but I really like them. Today for the first time I went inside and got a platter. Terrible mistake. Wings were small and cold today, obviously mass produced tart potato salad, and cheap canned beans. And the bread I got was chewy and the heel piece which sucked. No blue cheese, only ranch. Drinks you buy separate from the platter (which just pisses me off no matter where it is). And the girl behind the counter just hated being there and it was very obvious. And the inside decor was like a bad corporate break room. Oh AND there was no pie, which it clearly lists on the menu. Now I know I sound cheap with this next statement but it was more principle. My meal is listed as costing 7.29, but my card was charged 8.29. I know it's Tennessee but tax on food is not that high. When I mentioned it to her she said "that's what it costs" Whitts- please!!! Listen up! Get some happier employees, paint that ugly dining room, keep the food hot, develop your own recipes for the sides, and for the love of god- put some damn pie in the desert display case instead of t- shirts!!! 3 stars because I'll be back to get wings at the drive through. read more

We're tourists and didn't know it was a chain. Very friendly staff, and the place looked and smelled clean (perhaps too much cleaning agent, not enough BBQ smell). Four pork plates with four different sides, all which tasted canned. I now see this is a common theme in reviews for this chain and our experience was typical. Hands down straight up terrible bbq! Awful practically straight vinegar coleslaw, beans straight from a can, terrible corn bread with the texture of soda bread, clear liquid nasty tasting bbq sauce that's 60% vinegar, and dry over cooked pulled pork all served up in portion so tiny that three orders combined might equal one plate from just about any other bbq joint on the planet. And did I forget to mention it's expensive? This place is 100% successful at being the absolute worst example of Tennessee bbq out there.. period! If the owner read s this review and offers me free food here for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't even give this place a second chance as my experience was so terrible that I'd rather have a McDonald's McRib than attempt to put this garbage in my mouth ever again. If your in the Donelson area and want bbq, go anywhere but here unless you want ripped off by a business that has zero pride in they're food and only wants your money. This is some of the worst BBQ I've ever had. I got ribs and pulled pork to-go. The staff was nice but it doesn't begin to make up for the food. The ribs were bland - they had a smoke ring but no bark and no flavor - and they were difficult to eat. Leave some of the back skin on them to hold them together during cooking but not an inch thick so they are hard to pull apart! The pulled pork was watered down - do not keep your meat warming in a pan of water! I think that didn't help the flavor any which was slightly less bland than the ribs. The sauce, which can be a saving grace to some ribs, was meh. Not bad, not good, just there. A bit too runny for me as I prefer a thicker sauce but I wouldn't have held that against them. I ended up throwing most of the food away after no one would eat it at home. I won't go back and I suggest saving your money. Even BarBCutie is better and I certainly don't think theirs is good. read more
