We had no idea when it was last serviced or if it had ever been serviced at all. Henry gave us a very fair and competitive price for a tune up. Upon Henry's arrival, he was friendly and professional. He opened the furnace and showed us the burner. He explained it was in great condition considering the age of the unit and it didn't need servicing; although, he did clean up around a few areas around the burner. The blower motor was slightly wobbly, and once again, he explained it was still in good shape considering its age. He proceeded to the back patio where the condenser was located. He noted the unit was very old and that particular Freon is no longer available for servicing; however, he stated the unit did not need to be replaced just yet as long as it's blowing cold. Henry indicated despite our units being way past their anticipated life expectancy, they were clean and blowing hot & cold just fine. Therefore, no servicing was recommended and he did not charge us anything. We are impressed not only by Henry's friendliness and professionalism, but also by his transparency and integrity. Many other companies would have hopped on the opportunity to upsell the service or even sway us to replace our system right away, but Henry gave us peace of mind to give us time and to save up for an inevitable replacement in the future with Therma Tech. Like many customers I wanted to put a TV over a fireplace without it being too high off the ground as this makes for an unpleasant viewing experience. One way to do this is to use the "cool wall" type of installation, which lets you locate a TV right above the fireplace, but this requires building a chase into the room - and the particular room we have is too small for this to be a good idea. I also did not want to use one of the mantle mount options for our TV because that would also bring the TV into the room when lowering it for use which would thereby also reduce the size of the room in front of the TV. So we had a bit of a conundrum. But penguin showed us some options, which allowed us to get our TV low enough without using a mantel mount or a chase at all. Specifically, they showed us an insert that you could put directly on a concrete floor and a noncombustible mantle which you could locate just a few inches over the fireplace opening without risking fire safety. (As a point of comparison, locating a typical combustible mantle above a fireplace requires strictly specified minimum distance, which in effect leads to a much much higher minimum TV installation height..) We also went with a custom surround, which makes the gas insert that we went with look a lot bigger, and also a good proportion for the space that we have... And the design of the insert itself makes it look a whole lot deeper and wider than it actually is by using reflective glass. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. For the wall tile, I'd always had a dream of doing board form concrete and penguin did a fantastic job installing it. This is a fiberglass reinforced concrete veneer product I got from Wall Theory in the color "natural gray." It's worth mentioning that I visited another store that did not think of the options we went with, which left me scratching my head as I stared at a pile of catalogs that they shared instead. Go with Penguin.

I hired Whole Duct to clean out my dryer vent and I'm very happy and relieved with the result. Scheduling with Andy was quick, easy, and straightforward. I appreciated the clear communication and professionalism the technicians Aydin and Parvin took every step of the way: arriving on time, letting me know what they were doing and giving me a heads up before turning on the loud vacuum, wearing shoe covers on my carpet, testing the dryer afterwards to make sure it turned on and worked properly, and cleaning up afterwards. I also appreciated the video and photos they took and shared with me during the process; seeing all that dust coming out of the vent was satisfying and helped me feel confident that the job was getting done properly. I used my dryer today and it is running so much more efficiently: before the duct cleaning, towels would still be pretty damp at the end of a cycle, and now they come out dry and warm. Aydin and Parvin did a great job cleaning our dryer vent. No prep was needed! They moved the dryer, cleaned the vent, and put everything back better than it was. When they started cleaning the vent, I went outside to watch how much lint was going to come out of the duct. I could see the duct flap opening and closing during the cleaning and then the vent cleaning mechanism came shooting out. When they were trying to pull it back inside, the flap got stuck in the open position. I let them know and they got out their ladder and fixed it with no complaints. This was not easy as the duct was 20+ feet up the side of the house. I really appreciated they put on shoe booties at all times when entering the house and cleaned up around the dryer when they were done. They also sent me a video of the cleaning so I could see how dirty the duct was. I would highly recommend Whole Duct for your vent cleaning. read more

Received a quick response from Andy after I put in a Yelp request. He also called me with a question based upon what I described as an issue with my dryer. The price was fair and within the same range of all the other offers I eventually received. Aydin and Parvin were able to come out in a few hours and do a thorough vent cleaning (inside-out and outside-in front the roof) given it had probably been at least 5 years since I last had the vent cleared. I booked an inspection and cleaning for a wood burning fireplace in Santa Cruz. They were on time, very polite and immediately went to work. Upon completion they showed me a before & after video with a clear difference the cleaning made and recommended several repairs such as replacing worn away mortar inside the firebox. We moved into a new (old) home a few months ago and hired ProFix to do an inspection and sweep. We…read moresuspected the fireplace might not be in tip-top shape so wanted to get it checked out before using it. ProFix was very responsive when I was inquiring about their services, they offered a competitive quote, and scheduling was very straightforward. They came out today, did the inspection, and as suspected there were a bunch of issues that made the fireplace unusable - including cracks in the fireplace, not-fire safe paint, a missing cap, flue, and a hole in the base of the fireplace that shouldn't have been there. They explained everything to us in detail, gave us a quote and got started on the work right away. Afterwards, gave us a really great walkthrough of the work and explained how to best use the fireplace moving forward. They were also respectful of our home and cleaned up after themselves. Would absolutely recommend hiring them if you have any fireplace/chimney needs.

Returned to air duct cleaning after almost 6 years of not getting this service done. My dryer…read morestopped working as well, it would take 2 or more cycles to fully dry my clothes, and my partner has been clearing out the dryer vent himself. After figuring it wasn't worth the electricity bill, I called up David. He arrived within the scheduled arrival time and got straight to work. The poor guy was on the roof pulling a bunch of gunk out, and he even showed me photos and videos after he was finished. My dryer works so much better now and saved me money on a new dryer!
