Wonderful, tender, meaty, and absolutely delicious ribs and beef brisket with six different sauces for your enjoyment. My partner used to love Sonny's BBQ in her homestate until she tried this place. "Fuck Sonny's!" she exclaimed, showing her approval of these meat treats. The baked beans are very good; there's lots of pork meat in them. I liked the potato salad, too, although my partner didn't because she thought it was too creamy. The cheesy corn and fries are okay, just basic. I liked the cornbread; it's a big block that's sweet with bits of corn in it. Compared to Sweet Lucy's, Smokin' Betty's, Phoebe's, Famous Dave's, Fette Sau, and Percy Street, I like Whole Hog's ribs better. I think Percy and Fette might have the edge on beef brisket, however. Phoebe's does fairly well with its spice rub rather than sauced ribs. Big bonus points for its casual, cafeteria style atmosphere. read more

This was horrible dining experience which i must share. Friday night 530pm we were the first people inside. So we ordered wings with dry rub and a side of potato salad,two meat plated meal, and a kids meal to go. 1. The wings came out with sauce all over them. 2. The kids meal came out on a plate ( not to go ) 3. The two meat meal never came out. After the 4 other parties all got served we got up to say something to the girls and the front desk. Looks like the order was never even made so we had to wait another 10 minutes on top of the 25 we already waited. 4. Once we were served the two meat plate we had to mention we also never received the side of potato salad with the wings. 5. I infrequently venture to jersey but a friend tipped me off to this place. The catch was it had 10 locations (5 in Arkansas) and only one in the North. When you walk in the place is decorated in BBQ awards, and trophies. Ended up getting the combo platter which is quite a dinner, enough to split with someone else for sure. The BBQ meats were great. Good corn bread and the sides were excellent too. They also have 6 different BBQ sauce varietals at each table which is the icing on the cake. read more

Had a lovely time at Whole Hog! The employees were sweet and helped a friend get situated with a high chair. She brought our food to us and asked if we needed anything else. Everything I ate was delicious. Had a half slab of ribs, mac & cheese, potato salad and corn bread. I don't usually like potatoes, and I definitely do not like vinegar but this vinegar based potato salad.. I ate my entire portion. I love spicy food and often find it hard to find things spicy enough in restaurants - the volcano sauce had my mouth tingling more than it has in a while from restaurant food. Great BBQ. This is our go to place when we want delicious BBQ. My go to is the pulled pork platter (#5) sauce with potato salad and baked beans. This time I got the coleslaw instead of the beans. It was ok not my favorite. Will definitely go back with the beans next time. My husband- brisket, really tender, #3 sauce. I really enjoyed Whole Hog at its new location! There are lots of options for meat lovers, maybe try somewhere else if you're a vegetarian though. I had the pulled pork plate which comes with two sides and cornbread. The pork was awesome. They have six different barbecue sauces to choose from. We had fun sampling the different kinds and picking a favorite. My husband had the hog platter which comes with two different kinds of meats so we got to try the brisket as well, which was great. This is one of the best northern BBQ places that I have ever been to I had the shredded pork platter with potato salad, coleslaw and baked beans The pork was moist and had great favor. Their volcano sauce is awesome ( seems to have Chillis and maybe a habanero ). I ended up mixing the sauce with the other 6 great sauces that are available The sides were also very awesome Potato salad was done the way I like it where the potato have the firmness and the seasonings and mayo was not over bearing The coleslaw was equally good and not watery or over seasoned I was very pleased with the baked beans. At most BBQ places I have found that their baked beans are more of an after thought and seem to come street from a can. I was very disappointed had heard so many good things about this place I just had to try it out. The staff was courteous and friendly they had a nicely priced menu however the food was not what I expected at all. Or party consisted of four and we all ordered different things. I ordered the pork ribs which were good nothing to rave about. My wife and I recently had a casual dinner at the Cherry Hill WHC. This wasn't our first time. We have always enjoyed the food and thought it was a perfect place for a quiet, "unwinding" kind of Saturday evening. This time, we had a comparison to the great BBQ restaurants of the South. We recently spent some time in Charleston, SC and visited one of their "top three" rated BBQ restaurants. It was terrific, but we honestly felt our meal a couple weeks ago at Whole Hog was superior to what we had in Charleston! The ribs were meatier and evenly cooked to perfection. The brisket was tender through and through; not loaded with fat and gristle. And had a moist smokiness where it didn't even need any sauce (although we did sauce it!) The staff was young and very courteous and efficient. They seemed really happy to see us there. They chatted with us a bit as they did other customers. The manager (?) was attentive and friendly. Plus the whole place was clean and tidy. We have often thought the BBQ in our area was kind of ersatz: you know, an attempt at the real thing. But we can tell you, having visited one of the top BBQ places in SC, Whole Hog of Cherry Hill is legit! It is the real thing! And it is very clear the staff takes this seriously. Kudos! I was so excited for Whole Hog Cafe. I've heard so much about their award winning bbq that I had to try it for myself... I wanted to love this place because I wanted to have a bbq spot that I loved near my home. But this isn't it. I wasn't impressed with Whole Hog for these reasons 1. The meat was thoroughly unimpressive. We both got the Hog Platter, and it just didn't do it for us. The meat was dry, the beef was too salty for my taste. 2. I expect a bbq place to have a variety of sides to choose from. I like bbq for the sides just as much (if not more) as I like it for the bar-b-que meats. They only offered baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw and cheesy corn. Where was the mac and cheese? 3. I tried all of the sauces at the table and couldn't really find a favorite because they were all pretty boring. Another things to point out that are not pros or cons is that they don't have table service, you order at the counter, find you seat and they call you up when your order is ready. First dine-in customer! My friend and I got free trucker hats. There is little wonder as to why Whole Hog is a world champion. Their pulled pork is delicious and their brisket is lean and smoky. Their ribs have a deeper smoke than the brisket and they are perfectly done- not so tender that everything falls off the bone when you touch it, and not so tough that you have to work too hard to get everything off the bone. There are six sauces to choose from, my favorites being their mustard (#6) and dark molasses-based bbq sauce (#5). The potato salad was especially impressive- the potatoes are baked, so you get that unique baked potato flavor and tenderness. The baked potato seems to absorb seasoning and moisture well too, whereas boiled potatoes do not do well with absorption. The beans were sweet (but not too sweet) and loaded with nice chunks of pork. What really sets Whole Hog apart from local/regional competitors is probably their prices. Where one would have to spend upwards of $20+ to get a nice, varied platter from Percy Street or Fette Sau, at Whole Hog you only need to spend around $10-$12 to get two meats, two sides, bread, and a drink. For people of slighter build or those looking for a lighter meal/lunch option, you can get a sandwich for $6-$8 or a single meat platter with two sides for $8-$10. Ok, so the wife and decide to give this place another shot. It was the same night there was a water main break in Cherry Hill on route 70. We got caught in the traffic heading eastbound. In separate cars, we were in communication with each other. My wife stated that she was not going to be in any mood to cook because we already was sitting in traffic for 15 minutes and that was just trying to merge on route 70 from Cuthbert Blvd. I suggested Whole Hog Cafe, since it was right up the road. I can hear the apprehensive tone in my wife's voice, but we were out of options and her patience was thin. This time we get inside and there are plenty people inside, and some following us in. I think they decided to get the heck off route 70 as well. The minute we started to eat our food, I can see the disappointment on my wife's face. I have to say I slowly started to share her feelings. For starters the food is borderline cold. I prefer to eat bbq at its respective establishment because I feel it is better when eaten right out of the kitchen. I think it would have better served Whole Hog Cafe if I took the food home and reheated it myself. I never had this problem whenever I ordered from Sweet Lucy's on the way home, and this is when I lived in Mercer County and my commute home was longer. The cornbread was extremely cold, just like the dinner rolls we ordered previously. The pulled pork is ok, and in my opinion the best thing on the menu, even though it is cold. The ribs were salty, and I didn't even bother with the chicken this time around. The sides could use a lot of work, a lot of work! The potato salad is disgusting. What ever they use as the base of the potato salad is horrible. There are an abundance of trophies inside Whole Hog Cafe acknowledging their outstanding achievements in BBq. I guess I need to make a trip down to Arkansas to find out exactly what is so good about it because I am not going to find at this location. We split the Hog platter between two people which was the perfect amount. Total was $20 which included 4 ribs, pulled pork, BBQ brisket, a side of chicken as well as 2 sides (we chose bean and salad) and it also came with a slice of corn bread. Ribs and the brisket was excellent. The pulled pork wasn't bad, but wasn't anything to write home about. The chicken was soft and tender. I love how there are 6 different BBQ sauces to choose from on every table. The dining experience is quite casual. Order up front, seat your self and go up and retrieve your food when you number is called. Tons of award winning trophies are displayed which are impressive although on closer inspection I noticed that a lot of them are from about 14-16 years ago. Nothing too recent, but hey maybe they are settled down and concentrating on the restaurant business instead of traveling around and entering competitions. I'm sure that is a ton of work and takes away from the time and effort it takes to properly run a restaurant. In summary, this is a very solid place for BBQ. Probably not the best you will ever have but in terms of price, taste, portion size I think Whole Hog is pretty awesome. We'll be back. read more

Whole Hog is a great name for this Jersey strip barbecue joint. It's a big place, with a cozy dark-wood atmosphere, appropriate for this style of restaurant. The meat is delicious, cornbread is about as good as it gets, you get decent value for your money, and the choices of 6 uniquely different sauces at the table is outstanding. I don't know. I recently went back to Whole Hog. The pulled pork was not what I remembered it to be. They were drier than I remember, not as flavorful, no something that I would eat without barbecue sauce. The barbecue sauces were still very good, in fact these are some of my favorite barbecue sauces in the area, but sauce does not make barbecue. I still think that the ribs are the best thing available here. I'll have to remember to only get ribs next time. Though this is not something that I typically do at barbecue places. We tried the ultimate platter which had pork, beef, chicken and ribs with three sides. The pork and beef were pretty good. The chicken was dry and the ribs were a little too fatty for my liking. The baked beans were ok - nothing to rave about. The cheesy corn was good, but I think I would have preferred a good Mac and cheese instead :) the cornbread was awesome - very moist and I like that there were little pieces of corn within the bread. From what I understand, this is a small chain located almost exclusively in Alabama, so I was very surprised to discover that they chose NJ as an expansion location. They are very proud of their award-winning BBQ and prominently display the trophies in the entrance to the cafeteria-style dining room. They also do catering for your party, if you don't barbecue on your own time. It's simple to order--go to the register, choose your food off of the wall menu, pay, and sit. Your number is called when the food is ready. I went with the pulled pork plate ($8.95), which came with a large piece of cornbread and two sides. I went with chili (lots of beans and meat, a little watery, and quite spicy) and potato salad (sour cream base). The pork was a bit dry, but I suppose it was so your chosen BBQ sauce was better able to stick to the meat. There are six to choose from and I especially liked the #3 sauce (spicy tomato). The plate is an ample portion and doesn't look unreasonably large, but it's extremely filling--I could hardly walk when I left. With Spring and summer right around the corner I've been craving BBQ 24/7. A group of us went to Whole Hog to get our fix and a mixed experience all around. We got a lot of grub so I'll try to break it down as best I can. Pulled pork was pretty decent but beware of getting it as a sandwich. The roll is Kaiser and HUGE. I think it would be much better on a regular sized potato bun. It was too much bread for the pork. Cole slaw was very bland. Found myself wanting more salt which I don't like having to add. Brisket looked sketchy but was very tender and flavorful. Ribs were decent and I'd probably go for strictly those next time. The potato salad was very strange because it was made with sour cream. I found myself very torn about it. The cheesy corn was atrocious and I really hope they take it off of the menu and replace it with Mac-and-Cheese. What's BBQ without Mac-and-Cheese? I even asked at the counter hoping maybe it was a secret menu item. Sadly, I was disappointed. My favorite part of Whole Hog was the 6 (7 if you have the guts to ask for the super hot...which we did and it lived up to its name) different BBQ sauces. Gun to my head I couldn't tell you the names of all of them. But my favorite was #6 that was vinegar/mustard based. I drizzled it over everything on my plate. Stopped here last night with very high expectations as I have done a lot of research on whole hog ever since I found out they were opening up - and I just love bbq food! So my wife and I went in ordered a little of everything and were very pleased! The pulled pork was delicious! I also got 1/2 rack of ribs, smoked sausage, baked beans and cole slaw. Everything was great and the sauces they offer are amazing. The mustard sauce was my fav. I will definitely be going back with the rest of the fam and trying more food. I'm so happy we have a real bbq joint in the area and I now don't have to depend on Famous Dave's to get my fix. Highly recommended and if you don't go to whole hog then you have no idea what your missing. The only thing I would suggest is putting hot wings on the menu. I had them cater a lunch for an office and I couldn't have been happier or more appreciative. Jason who took my order was helpful and Chris who delivered and set everything up was friendly, accommodating, and prompt. I ordered the brisket, pork, and a rack of ribs all were very good. Everything had a nice smokey flavor and was prepared to perfection. As for the sides the cole slaw was average and the potato salad was excellent. I was surprised by the beans, I'm not a baked bean fan, but these beans were great! they had the same smokey flavor as the meat and had a nice combination of sweet with the slightest amount of heat. Finally, I was impressed with the corn bread. It was flavorful and had a nice consistency and if I wasn't in the presence of strangers I would have eaten all of them. I was a little concerned walking into this place initially. I arrived around 6:30 pm, and the place was empty. I continued in anyway. The staff was very friendly, and explained that a lot of people do takeout. I ordered the ultimate feast to get a taste of everything. I got potato salad (which was amazing), cheesy Corn (again amazing), and the chili which was really good for sides. I opted for 1 dinner roll and 1 corn bread to try both of those as well. I only got the volcano sauce, which the girl told me was very spicy and wanted to make sure that I didn't want other sauces to go with it. I opted to get the just volcano, and it was very spicy. Even for me who loves spicy food. Overall the food was very good. All the meat was tender and had little fat on it. My favorite things were the ribs that were some of the best I had recently, and the brisket. The corn bread was also really good. the dinner roll was a little dry, but once you load it up with delicious meat and sauce it was fine. My uncle and I went here for lunch today. I gotta tell you, it's about time there is real deal Q in this area. We couldn't decide on anything so we just ordered the Ultimate Combo. It had brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken and ribs(I substituted the ribs for the smoked sausage), comes with 3 sides and rolls. Everything was just great. The potato salad was out of bounds. The baked beans had pulled pork chunks in them. The brisket was as tender as can be and the pork and chicken had great flavor. Sausage was good to. There was so much I could bring some home. The owner/manager came over and talked to us. A really nice guy. The sauces were good but the meat really didn't need it. They were a bit more on the sweeter side which I don't care for. And the Volcano sauce was real spicy but good flavor. This you have to ask for. I think if I had to say anything negative it would be that they don't sell collard greens or corn bread.
