It's fine. I think that I may not like barbecue as much as I think I like barbecue. Upfront, the two best sides on our ultimate platter plate were the corn bread and the mac and cheese. That corn bread was both sweet and corny (see what I did there?) and not too crumbly. It held up to the butter slathering. The sauces - I liked the classic the best. The meats - the ribs and pulled pork were good. The brisket lacked that nice bark I really love. The chicken was too smoked to me - all I could taste was smoke and it lost any flavor of chicken. read more

We have passed this place so many times and every time we do I say I wanted to try it. We had set out to try Korean bbq, but that didn't work out. Finally came to whole hog cafe and I was so happy we did. We ordered a platter with pulled pork, brisket, ribs and chicken. We got Mac and cheese, baked beans, and corn bread as sides. We also ordered a side of bbq honey wings. On the tables they have six bbq sauces to pick from. They were all very different. LOVEDDD the honey bbq wings. When you think of Barbecue there are certain areas of this fine country that come to mind. Mainly south of Maryland to the Midwest , not New Jersey of all places. One thing I did enjoy was that wonderful aroma of meat being smoked and seasoned to perfection. This was coming from the parking lot mind you, so if it is that intense from the outside you could only imagine what it is like from the inside . Yes a carnivores paradise waiting to be perused with different options to full fill ones guilty pleasure. Whole Hog offers a wide variety of options anyone can choose from, even if they are missing a few well known suspects. Hey that it is OK, I am sure they will add this to their menu in the near future. The two things missing in my mind on this menu would be 1st , being Mac and Cheese, 2nd being Hush Puppies. This being a chain I don't see why not, it would be extra revenue coming in, with an even larger smile for the patron. Other than those Whole Hog has a pretty good product. I had ordered an " Ultimate Platter " for $20.99 to go for the lovely wife and I. This relatively inexpensive platter came with the following : - Pulled Pork - Pulled Chicken - Beef Brisket - 4 Ribs or as they would refer to it as "Bones" instead of ribs. - 3 sides and 2 dinner rolls - Endless options in dipping sauces if you want to get sloppy silly. (Decided on ALL the sauces by the way) With this I also added 2 extra ribs , and extra sides, so the wife and I each could enjoy a side. The extras' wasn't expensive with the sides being potato salad, baked beans, and coleslaw. Each were in the price range of $2.00 dollars, with the 2 extra ribs at $4.00 was well worth it, seeing we couldn't finish. There is nothing like opening the fridge and seeing left overs for the next day , minus the ribs though. The ribs " Bones" literally fell off the bone and melted in your mouth, this is a must order by the way. The beef brisket and pulled pork both seasoned to perfection, and with the dipping sauces provided to you they made for a 1, 2 punch to the taste buds. The chicken in my opinion was a little disappointing it was very dry, even with the sauces. This was not as juicy or flavorful as the other meats we had that evening. The sauces , home-run right there guys. My or I should say "our" favorites were The Tangy Tomato with a little sweetness to it, the Traditional Vinegar and Spice, a rich Mustard and Vinegar blend, and the Volcano. Service was very courteous, very helpful in trying to make sure you get "your" perfect meal. The establishment was clean, with a wide range of tables for seating. The pick up lane even has seating inside so you can salivate as you wait for your meal. Other than the few things it lacked, Whole Hog will definitely fill you up. Went in on a Friday around 1pm, and we were the only people in there. Ordered off a screen that was easy to use, and prices seem fair for the portion. I got a pulled pork sandwich with slaw on the side, and my boyfriend got a full slab rib plate with mac and cheese and fries on the side. Service was super fast. Our food got out in less than five minutes, but the food wasn't really hot. Overall, the food was good and was a decent portion size, but I wished it was hot when it came out. read more

Not horrible, but nothing special. I asked for brisket with fat. He said they remove the fat cap, which to me, is a bbq sin. He recommended the burnt ends. If not done right, they can be dry. Yep, they were dry. And oddly, very little seasoning flavor. Very little, if any smokiness. Sauce was good. But good brisket shouldn't need sauce. Collard green were very good. Potato salad was fine. Service was good and the gentleman seemed truly concerned I was enjoying my meal, since he asked 3 or 4 times. Didn't see any smokers. Didn't smell any smoke in the building. The inside in adorned with award winning trophies for delicious tasting barbecue. This was our first time here so our server Brianna was courteous and very accommodating, helping with the menu item selection, rewards program, and dining in protocol. There wasn't a line so service was quick plus after paying and receiving a number, we found a table where our food was brought out to us. We ordered the Ultimate Platter with Pulled Pork, Ribs, Chicken, Sliced Brisket, Baked Beans, Cole Slaw and Side of Fries for $24.99. Burnt Ends 1/4 Lbs for $4.99. Two- Sweet Iced Teas for $1.99 each. All self served with as many refills as you want. (Of course they had other choices of fountain drinks to choose from.) The Pulled Pork, Ribs and Brisket were spot on! They were cooked to perfection where you can taste the smoke but it wasn't over powering, juicy and succulent. The Brunt Ends Were mouth watering good, just a bit of heaven in your mouth! As a complement there were six BBQ Sauces on each table for you to try our favorites being number 2, 5 and 6. The Sides were good like the Fries, the Corn Bread and especially the Baked Beans which had bits of meat infused with a slight smoky node to it. The shredded chicken was well seasoned but it was a little over cooked to the point it was a bit mushy. The Cole Slaw was ok. I slathered it in sauce # 3 and it was a dinner win! I think the burger was deep fried, which gave it an interesting crunchy texture I wasn't expecting. We were looking for somewhere different for BBQ. Upon entering, I was concerned as the appearance was very plain and the place had no customers. We ordered the Ultimate feast. What a pleasant surprise. The food was wonderful! The ribs were moist and delicious. I didn't even add sauce. (A first). The pulled pork and chicken were amazing. Every thing was fresh and tasty. While filling our fountain drinks, I noticed how clean the restaurant was. By the time we had finished, the place was full. An amazing thing with the never ending road construction. March 13th, 2019 Update: My favorite sauce is #5. But, you can ask the counter for #7 which is their well-balanced "Volcano" sauce: I like to mix a little into #1 or #2 to give it some heat. There is a 6-pack beer carrier on the table with 6 sauces. We had fun trying the 3 sauces that we thought we would like. All were tasty, spicy, but not too. You order at the counter, they give you a number and bring your order to your table. FINALLY a BBQ place that served gool ol' murican Q. You walk in and you are just inundated with the sight of trophies and the smell of RIBS. Order at the counter and sit in their spacious dining area waiting for your order number. Because its low and slow BBQ, they don't cook to order, per say, so its quick. I ordered the whole hog platter, because I wanted to try a little of everything. It came with 3 ribs, brisket, and pulled pork along with 3 sides (i opted for baked beans, potato salad and cole slaw). The RIBS and BRISKET were to die for. Just get it. Perfectly smoked, cooked for HOURS (you can tell by the smoke ring they are able to achieve on the brisket and the fall of the bone meat on the ribs). Every table had 6 different sauces, from sweet and mild to southern vinegar and spice to volcano. A sauce for all tastes. The number 3 sauce was "roll your eyes back into your head" good and to pair with the slightly sweet glaze on the ribs is nothing short of genius The pulled pork was good, but it was a little dry for my taste. Although, the addition of the sauce to the pulled pork did add the desired level of moistness, along with a good amount of spice, but I'm a firm believer that pulled pork should be moist on its own and the sauce should just simply add flavor. That's why I deducted one star. The sides: Potato salad. potato salad. potato salad. I don't know how but their potato salad was sent from the potato gods themselves. Too good. Baked beans. Amazing. slightly smokey, and the addition of pork in the beans put it over the top. Cole Slaw. I mean, its cole slaw. Nothing extraordinary here. As much as I wanted the baked beans which are SLAMMING, I ordered a side of coleslaw, and side salad...Whole meal was like 10$, can you even eat McDonald's garbage anymore for 10$??? The meats were smoked to perfection, and the salad was super fresh and crisp....What makes this place so spectacular in my book is number one: they don't drench the meat with sauce like some of these places do, it comes out dry, and you have 6 sauces to choose from on the table. There is a 7th sauce in the back called Volcano sauce for those of you that like it spicy like me! I'll warn you, it will light you up! So be careful. Each of the sauces compliment some of the different regions in the U.S. you can get bbq. For instance, anyone that knows Carolina BBQ knows there's a big difference between South and North Carolina. Ones mustard based and ones Viniger based. Bbq down there is like the Bloods "VS" the Crips....However, this place has both...Also whatever tickles your fancy! I like the volcano sauce! I've had some of the best BBQ in the nation in various locations in Memphis, Kansas City and North Carolina and I've constantly been disappointed with the BBQ available in the Northeast, but this place is easily the best I've had in the Philly, DC & NY Metro areas. The chicken, ribs, brisket & especially the pulled pork were excellent. Sauce is very personal, but I like the mild sweet sauce which was great with all the meats. I Stepped into Whole Hog Cafe assuming I'd be doing my dude a favor because 1) BBQ isn't my favorite 2) I don't talk the lingo and when people get into long conversations about ribs, sauce and grilling I start to daydream. It's mostly self-serve with 4 televisions (yay-BYOB game day!) and a decent amount of tabletop or booths. In Summer they have a few windows open, which probably bring in bugs to their sweet, sweet BBQ smell. Still, pretty nice to be kind of outside. The food: The pulled pork was moist, Smokey flavor and likeable. Top it off with their (1) or (5) BBQ sauce that is table-side makes it a decent entree. (1) is their traditional sauce, (5) is their sweet and tasty sauce. I was surprised I'd enjoyed a type of food I normally don't really care about. The cornmeal is best described as a crowd-pleaser since BBQ fanatics seem so set in their ways. It has bits of corn but not whole kernels. The top is crusty but not too tough and soft throughout. Just right. The Mac and Cheese definitely needs some fixing and was pretty much like something you'd find in a frozen meal. It was missing a much better quality of cheese. The dude says to try the cheesey corn instead. Cole slaw was pretty fair--crunchy and not overbearing in taste. I'd maybe suggest trying a different side. Dude liked the ribs and he housed them within 7 minutes, leaving me to sit there still figuring out which BBQ sauce to try out. Overall, Whole Hog is a winner for their easy going BBQ place. The deal at the Whole Hog is the customer places their order at the front and they call your receipt number when ready. This is fine with me and our order was ready in about 10 minutes. It's been nearly a year since my last review and I've finally made my way back to the Whole Hog. It's almost as if they knew who was walking through the door. Unlike last time -- when I waited an hour for a simple plate -- I had barely sat down to wait for my take out when the girl called my number. Granted, no one else was waiting, but still. Here's my question: Did they even cook it? How was it made that quickly? In a microwave? With that said, I'm docking a star. I also thought the prices were too high for the portions. I could find better barbecue options elsewhere. My ribs were boring and the pulled pork/pulled chicken combo barely took up half of the to-go container. They also could do well if they were to add more side-options, like macaroni salad. I will say that the girls working were extremely friendly. They didn't make fun of me at all for ordering ribs, pulled pork and pulled chicken all at once for me-myself-and-I, so that was nice. When they first open in Cherry Hill the ribs were awesome. Recently they have been getting progressively worse. I swore I would not return from my previous visit when I got dry ribs. Today it was a beautiful day and they were on my way, thought I give them another try. The have gotten worse. The ribs today were dry and over cooked. The ends of my rack were not edible. The whole tribe came here for something to eat after a game. We really had a little bit of everything and not one complaint, which really is an accomplishment given the crowd I run with. Ribs, wings, pulled pork, brisket, baked beans, Mac and cheese, cheesy corn French fries...I do think we covered it all except the sausage. I have to say I am very critical of cornbread, but theirs was very good. The best ever is from the Waterwheel in Gorham, NH...in case you were wondering. Tried this place in an effort to establish my BBQ go to. I ordered a small party pack which included 2 lbs if meat, full slab of ribs and 3 sides with buns and sauce. I substituted the buns with corn bread. Our sides were macaroni and cheese, cheese corn and coleslaw. The ribs were succulent and delicious. I ordered brisket and sausage for the 2 lbs of meats. I was disappointed as there wasn't any special about the sausage and the brisket was dry. We also ordered a side plate of brisket burnt ends. These were awesomely delicious - too bad the normal brisket did not have the same amount of fat which would have made a world of difference. The sides and corn bread were excellent. Could not stop eating the cornbread. My rating is three stars because in my opinion one of the plates that need to be on point is the brisket. Definitely got to give props to this good BBQ joint. The smoked sausage, pulled pork, and ribs were all very good. I want to so badly give the brisket an A+ but I just can't. It was okay, but out of the 4 meats, that was the least favorite of the bunch. The potato salad was excellent as well.
