The best gay bar in SLC. Whenever I'm in SLC, I spend a lot of time here and its always different. During my most recent stay in town, I experienced the large venue as a weeknight drag show, a crazy busy Friday night with everyone dancing on their runway stage, a slower Saturday and a Cowboy/Rodeo themed Sunday. The crowd on the busier nights was mixed while the slower nights were mostly gay men. The bartenders are nice and do their best for Utah's strict alcohol laws. I do wish they served lighter beers like a Montucky or Tecate. read more

Since they've re-opened my friends and i have had horrible experiences every time. Extremely unprofessional staff and security. The door guy joseph picks and chooses who gets to enter, accused me of being someone who threatened to punch him in the face when i just arrived then refused to let my friends in because they were too "pushy". read more

Honestly, I used to love this club and the fellow employees and bartenders that I've built friendships with, but I recently had an encounter with one of the alleged owners. I was trying to assist a woman drunk out of her mind and get her water but I guess my intentions were misconstrued. The manager was very rude, dismissive, and did nothing to help out that very drunk woman and assumed I was hitting on her at a gay club.... While trying to get this woman some water I was asked to exit the club. Despite explaining my intentions he had already caused a scene. He did nothing to help out that woman who had too much to drink. What a shame. Do better Sun Trap! read more

It's been a while since I've been out dancing I ordered an AMF and boy!!!! They give you one of those big gulps at 7-11 for $11.00. Granted, there's still a couple ounces of alcohol in it and then "watered" down with sprite. While I was waiting for my drink, some random guy started yelling at other people in a very aggressive manner. Security stepped in grabbed dude by the neck and pinned him against the wall. He let him go and crazy dude yelled and somebody else. I just left the room because I didn't want my big gulp to spill. Dance floor is obviously crazy busy with folks dancing and spilling drinks everywhere. I only remember seeing a couple of dance rooms and patio seating/smoking area. It's best to Uber/Lyft here because your going to drink! I haven't been here in a while but they have cleaned it up. Cool outside patio or dancing floor? I couldn't even find the old part until I had to use the restroom. Also the exit is the original entrance. Steffy with the cool hair hooked my group up with the big versions of your favorites. Its the only reason I come here r these ginormous drinks for $11.50. The music is always disappointing. Some really good songs then it's mixed with shit. It's always been like this. Get a new DJ. I don't know who started screeching their politics for everyone, but it was so cringe. It was also seedy and gross. Older than I expected.

One of SLC's only 2 or 3 gay bars. Not a nightclub kinda guy (happy hour here) and went around 4:30ish in the afternoon. Was pretty dead and prices were just ok (4.75 for a small plastic cup sized cocktail). Seemed like everyone was a local and knew each other. As an outsider visiting, patrons didn't seem to be too friendly but bartenders were friendly enough. Hotel was within walking distance but it is located in an odd part of town (rather industrial). They closed early since it was slow, which I didn't appreciate too much since we'd planned to be there until closing time on google, but other than that the bartenders were nice and conducive to a queer environment and the drinks were great and reasonably priced! It's really sad to say but Trapp has become a straight bar. It's like 90% heterosexuals now, which would be fine except for the fact that it's one of the few gay bars in SLC. I've been going here for years and am really upset to lose a cool spot to dance and hangout. read more

The restroom situation is horrible. No dividers or privacy at the urinals and both women and men can be in eye shot of all men peeing.

Super margarita from a very nice and attentive bartender. Always friendly and if you haven't been here in a while you can come back and pick up right where you left off. If you've never been here make the trip into the city for some fun. read more

I would give 0 if possible. Would not recommend to a friend! Tonight I decided to give trapp another try. To my dismay after explaining that I will not give over any forms of payments because I've had not 1 not 2 but 3 instances where things were totally wrong and some even fraudulent. With the same "bartender". So I'm greeted by one of the owners. Not pleasantly. He asks me to describe the said bar tender and I do. Instantly he gets defensive and even angrier. The bartender in question is his husband the other owner. So he spouts out a rant about how he's the most honest person. Pride stopped him from hearing that his business partner and lover isn't quite as squeaky clean as he thought. I was accused of being a liar and a hater only trying to ruin their reputation on Yelp. No I'm warning anyone that still goes to keep an eye out and be careful. That's the whole point of this isn't it. To warn other customers. I've heard trapp is the greatest bar and I've heard it is the worst bar. Take my experience and decide for yourself. I will never be stepping foot here again. The attached screen shot is from the most recent incident. we left no more then 10 minutes after arriving and are bill closed out for 34 dollars several hours later. So from my experience as a business student. They're taking all your credit card information and starting a transaction regardless of wether or not you bought anything. They can give you your card back and still have it in the computer. It's a shady way to do things right now. I'd give an alternative but I think they don't need any help from a hater on Yelp. read more

I stopped by here with some friends while stopping over on our way from Boise, Idaho to Las Vegas, Nevada. We stopped here after an amazing meal at Purgatory. This place has a good ambiance and is rather large if you include the patio area. Since it was a warm summer night, outside felt AMAZING. This is a predominately GAY bar-- so, if you're not okay with that-- you may want to avoid this establishment. I didn't buy anything because their chip reader was out, but my companions had some cash and bought some beer. There was an ATM if I really wanted some cash, but I was still super full from dinner. If I was a local, I'd visit this establishment often because it looks as if a good time to hang with friends. It was a Wednesday when we went, so not a lot happening. There were lots of people there still-- laughing, and having a good social time. I will visit again the next time I am in SL,UT! read more

I mean, it's hardly the fault of the bar itself, but it hardly feels like it's for the queer community anymore. Coming on a weeknight is far preferable to a weekend, and Monday night karaoke is pretty fun. I want to give this place 5 stars because I'm there more than any other bar in SLC. But my BIGGEST complaint--and the #1 reason my friends and I haven't returned in about a month--is because it takes ages to get a drink. I've never stood in line so long, or had to wait while actually at the bar just to get a drink. The longest I've stood in line, on a busy night, was 40 minutes--that's not an exaggeration. Y'all need to either get more bartenders or figure out a process that speeds the cocktail-making up because it's a total drag to be stuck in line while the best music ever is playing and you can't even dance. Other than that, the vibe is sooo great here. The female DJ who usually plays on Saturday nights is a DJ Queen that always gets everybody moving. The atmosphere is great, the people are fun and friendly and fabulous. LOVE IT...there's just the issue of waiting for drinks! read more

One of my favorite bars in Salt Lake! Drinks are reasonably priced, they have a nice outdoor patio area, and it is probably the most LIT bar in SLC on Saturday nights. Gays, straights, humans of every orientation, color, gender, etc come here to party and dance the night away almost every weekend. I've met some of my closest friends in SLC at this bar. Though it is a really fun place, some notable warnings: 1. The line is crazy after 10:30pm on Saturdays. Come earlier. 2. Drink lines are also crazy even though they have like 3-4 bars inside. (We Gays like our dranks) 3. Bathroom lines are horrendous, especially if you are a girl (limited stalls). As a guy, I think I've waited 30 minutes to pee a few times. 4. Few patrons must be locals and possibly regulars...not as friendly as I thought it would be...recommended a local beer on tap. Decent prices for beer. Have daily specials which include food. As someone coming from an international country, I was met with the rudest encounter from the so called "bouncer" or Doorman. I never carry my passport with me as everywhere I go, my South African ID is accepted. Bars, Gas stations, The airport, The gym, all accept my ID. But no, not at Sun Trapp?! After the doorman had seen 3 forms of identification, one including a US learners driving permit, showing I am 21. I was not granted access. This is extremely disappointing especially in this day in age. No one in their right mind would take their PASSPORT to the club? This decision was definitely fueled by something else and me not having my passport was clearly not the reason of letting me in. I have never quite experienced xenophobia up until now. 0/5 stars if I could. read more

Stopped over at this bar for a pre-pride fundraiser. I was really disappointed that even with the cold and rainy weather, they still required the event to use the outdoor stage. I like this bar, wether you are gay or straight the service here is great. It's rarely over crowded and the music is played at a level where you can actually talk to your friends. The crowd here is friendly too and the drinks are reasonably priced. They have a huge outdoor patio which is nicer in the warmer months but for the smokers there is a small section near the back bar set up with those heating poles. All in all a great bar and PS if you have stretched ears and want some cool custom jewelry then ask the door guy Quinn for a business card. read more
