I definitely say this is a good place to go out the way for hot chicken. The tenders by themselves are really delicious and the fries are pretty good. That sauce was definitely good wish I had a bit more of it. The sandwich although messy as it was for me at least was still good but not as good as the tenders by themselves. And the Mac and cheese was prolly the only thing that could have been better. It definitely felt light when eating left me wanting more. The service was great I did get there before closing and the lady was real nice and helped me with my order to go. Good service on her part I know how it be to want to finish so you can go home and she still took the time to help out.

Wicked Good Chicken is found inside The Hawk Stop gas station convenient store. I wouldn't normally get chicken from a place like this but I'm glad I did! The restaurant part of the store is very clean, as is The Hawk Stop and being National Fried Chicken Day when I was in Red Oak, I really had no choice. : ) I got the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with fries which was really good. It was a crispy piece of chicken that was seasoned well. Fries weren't my favorite but the chicken was excellent.

3 piece tender meal, missing several okra!

Chicken greasy tasting. Hot chicken so hot you can't even taste the chicken, just spice.

This place is SOOO SLOW especially since they have such a limited menu. Food is good, but slightly overpriced.

The chicken is very tender. I would get mild and light seasoning to cut back on the sodium though. I will go back.

However my wings felt like they were days old, super chewy and overcooked as well and both my hot sauce wings and garlic parm wings had very minimal sauce on, and the root beer coming out of the machine was white, and tasted like a sparkling water drink. I love Wingstop but this building has been the same experience both times.

The smoke from the kitchen basically consumed the dining area and was very irritating. It eventually dissipated after a while, but I wouldn't recommend infants in this environment. After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.

On our drive back to Austin, we decided to stop here based on the stellar ratings - easily the best decision of our trip. Our table ordered quite the spread: crispy mozzarella sticks with that perfect cheese pull, golden onion rings with just the right crunch, two juicy burgers cooked to perfection, and two kids' chicken nugget meals that disappeared in minutes. But the star of the show? The Philly cheesesteak sandwich - an absolute masterpiece with tender, flavorful steak, melted cheese, and perfectly sautéed peppers and onions that had us fighting over the last bite. Here's how good it was: I literally ordered another Philly cheesesteak to go before we left. I couldn't bear the thought of not having one for later! Every single item exceeded expectations. The portions were generous, everything arrived hot and fresh, and the quality was restaurant-level despite being a roadside stop. This is the kind of place that turns a routine road trip into a memorable experience. If you're passing through, don't think twice - pull over and treat yourself. Your taste buds will thank you!

Vivian Howard of North Carolina, Chef, Restaurateur and teacher to hopeful home cooks with her current show on PBS, "Kitchen Curious" cites Bojangles as the source of her inspiration for dirty rice, wanting to recreate that specific flavor profile at home. Yes, Bojangles. She even went through their drive thru on the show where she makes her own version of dirty rice. So I finally went to the Bojangles near me in Lancaster one evening. We stopped in and marveled at the many biscuit combinations on the menu. I will say that reading through the reviews on our way there was weird though. There are apparently "legacy" Bojangles out East that serve bone in Chicken and more selections of sides or "fix ins." This caused consternation after this Lancaster franchise opened and they didn't have bone in chicken. It seemed to affect customer perception of the current trimmed down menu of biscuit and tenders, salads and sandwiches only menu early on. The menu reminds me of Chick- fil-A, just different. As for today, I came for the Dirty Rice. But we did order two Chicken sandwiches plus pickles, a family size dirty rice and a family size coleslaw, to go. Bojangles does not have jalapeños FYI. The menu neglected to show a sandwich only price. So I asked. I was told $6.92 including tax. The family size fix ins were $4.99. Combos with sandwich, beverage, and side choice are approximately $9.50. Sandwiches come with lettuce and tomatoes according to the menu. The restaurant was clean with booths and tables. Service was friendly. When we got home though, I must have been misunderstood or I misunderstood what went on the sandwiches. We had ended up with only pickles instead of added pickles. I don't usually post photos of food with utensils or half full containers with food already removed but today, I am doing that. I sliced up some tomatoes, washed lettuce, got out the jalapeños and more pickles and mayo and we fixed up our sandwiches. I would like to think that everything would have been sorted out at the restaurant if we had dined in, but only 2 pickles? Seriously? The chicken itself was cooked perfectly. The exterior was still mostly crispy and was well seasoned. It certainly needed the veggies. And I have to have my jalapeños! The bun was brioche however and perfectly toasted. Now the dirty rice. I could taste the chicken bouillon in the well seasoned rice and the big chunks of sausage were appreciated. It was good. So was the coleslaw. Nice and cold, crunchy and a perfect foil to my jalapeños on my sandwich. So we spent spent $24.42 on two people for no drinks, two large sides and two sandwiches. Honestly, it was good, but it is not something that I would eat frequently. As I said, we don't usually eat fried chicken out. They are open 24 hours! With a well lit drive thru and easy online ordering. Go and check them out!
