I joined Yelp just to write this review. First a little background. We had 4 adults with lots of furniture moving from a 3-story townhouse to another 3-story townhouse. Everyone had a TV, desk, dressers, queen size bed, etc. The stairs were very narrow at our old place and, in some cases, we purchased large IKEA furniture and assembled it in the bedroom so we had no idea if it would do down the steps fully assembled. Scheduling the move was so fast and easy. Jay - the owner - responded to the form I filled out online in less than 12 hours. We were quoted a price but because the move was so huge, Jay cautioned that it might take longer than the 6.5 hours he estimated. As the move got closer, we had tiny questions about how to pack things and Jay always answered within a few hours of my email. So now on to moving day. Two of the four movers accidentally came an hour early to the move. Instead of waiting around for the rest of the crew to arrive and for their scheduled start time, they jumped right in and started pulling boxes out and putting them on the street. They also helped lower a box spring from the second floor (something we thought we would have to do). That saved my dad (who recently had open heart surgery) and brother from trying to do it themselves. I went to get the UHaul truck (you have to reserve your own truck) and when I returned 20 minutes later, all of our approximately 40 boxes had already been stacked and moved out of the apartment. After 20 minutes - all that was left was our furniture! When the other two movers showed up, they worked constantly with no break for the entire move. I asked if they broke for lunch (because the move was to go from 9:30AM to 3:30PM) and I was told they do not stop until the move is complete. The move was so fast and easy. The movers were angels! They were respectful and careful with our belongings. They never complained and were always upbeat and nice - even when the rest of my family was b*tching at one another. When we got to the new place, I had no idea how all of my stuff was going to fit in my room. The movers told me to take my time to figure it out and they would come back and arrange all of my furniture in the way that I wanted it. That was so incredible! Now to the payment part. We expected the move to take 6.5 hours but maybe longer based on Jay's estimate plus we thought we might get some charge for the movers starting early. Guess what? The move took pretty much exactly 6.5 hours, we did not get charged for the earlier start time and the price was exactly as quoted - no surprises - and, based on other friends I talked to who had moved recently, the price was WAY LESS than what they paid. This was the most pleasant moving experience I have had in my 16 years of moving from apartment to apartment in Boston. I will sing the praises of Wicked Smart Movers to anyone who will listen. After years of moving myself, myself and my girlfriend were getting ready to move in together and were really bummed about the prospect of doing it ourselves. On the other hand, we didn't have a huge budget to hire someone. After talking to at least a dozen different moving companies of all sizes, i happend upon WickedSmartMovers.com. WOW!!! The site was informative, and somewhat helpful; as it had tips, links and such, but really what was helpful was getting a chance to speak with Jay, the manager of Wicked Smart Movers. It was obvious Jay was busy as it was late May (a period when a lot of the students move home for the summer in Boston and Cambridge) however, Jay took the time to review our needs. He made some suggestions in how we could save money by renting our own truck and just using his team for the critical moving. He also provided a quote for the truck, but like he had told me, by just hiring Jay's crew for a few hours to tackle the big stuff, I could stay under my $450 budget. We were very happy, and Jay made us feel very compfortable with his obvious knowledge of the business. Keep in mind this was all before the guys came and moved one thing. On moving day (this past weekend) the guys showed up, worked very quickly/efficiently to move things down to the truck, wrapping some of our finer items, and packing the truck like it was some complex puzzle. I really could go on, but basically they did such a good job, we had enough time to have them do basically everything we had packed, save a few items (laptop and work stuff) that I wanted to move myself. The unload was equally as impressive. Everything went upstairs quickly, and the guys helped set up the bed, and were very careful to pick up after themselves after lunch. Basically they were amazing!!! I do want to note that these guys were not college students, but 30+ moving pro's. It was obvious in watching them work, that they did this pretty often. We move quite a bit, and I've gotten in the habit of hiring movers on each end to load/unload the truck, and driving a rented Penske or using ABF U-Pack for the actual driving. For the unload here in Boston on our move from NC, I emailed Jay first. I filled out the form on his website with my contact info and descriptions of the big items and the size of the truck. A few hours later, Jay emailed me back, and said he could probably fit the unload in on the date requested, but if we'd be up in Boston the night before (a Sunday night) his crew would defintely be available and that might knock a few bucks off the price. I took him up on the offer, and made sure we had the direct number for the head of the actual crew, in case we got caught in traffic on Sunday. We got into Boston a few hours before the scheduled unload, and found a parking spot two houses down for the 16' truck, and started moving in the stuff from the front of the truck. At the appointed time, Jay's crew showed up ready to roll (We actually got the Rasta crew that Ali mentions). These guys were great. Our apartment is a gut renovation that was supposed to be a condo, so everything is brand new. The guys took extra care to make sure they didn't scuff up the floors or walls as they brought everything in, and even did a great job of removing and remounting some doors to move in the big items. It took 3 guys less than 2 hours (the min from our quote) to unload the truck, and they were very professional and in a great mood as they went about the job. They were even really patient with me when I had forgotten to run to the ATM to get cash for the payment, and the final price was exactly what Jay quoted. I'd definitely recommend these guys. This is probably the happiest I've been to tip a moving crew, and we were so impressed that they came out on a Sunday night, we made sure that there was some pizza around for them when they got done. read more

Wicked Smart Movers is awesome... I hadn't been looking to move, but unexpectedly came across an apartment close to my family... Which meant I suddenly needed a good moving company... And fast! I filled out the online form for a free estimate... They got back to me right away and said they'd be able to do the move... Richie and Sean were great... They made everything so for easy me... I had a lot of boxes ready to go... But still had last minute packing to do... They started moving boxes and furniture... A couple of times they came in to find me staring at stuff and thinking, "OMG... What do I do next?"... But they were one step ahead of me... Offering suggestions and assistance... I really liked that they worked together with me... Great communication... They had the truck packed up and ready to go in no time... When we arrived at my new place Richie and Sean were very helpful... Checking in with me about where things should go and if there were any items that needed to be assembled... I didn't need much... Just to have everything dropped off in the living room... Nothing to be assembled... But it was a hot day... I felt a little shy about asking Sean, who happened to be in the living room, if he could put my air conditioner in the window... He said yes, without hesitation... Then when Richie walked in he asked if I needed the air conditioner put in... It was cool that they were right there if I needed anything... And they made sure to ask if there was anything else I needed before they left... Wicked Smart Movers helped make this move a breeze... They arrived on time... Were really friendly... Did everything that needed to be done... And did it within the estimated time frame and price quoted... If you're planning a move... I definitely recommend these guys =) read more

DO NOT USE THEM! As if moving isn't stressful enough, using Wicked Smart Movers made it even worse. First hint that things wouldn't go well, when we were waiting for the loading dock at my old apt. to be opened, one mover wanted to come up and start bringing things down, and the other wanted to smoke a cigarette. With my husband's help, we got off to our new house without much trouble. Then the real drama began. The movers didn't wear gloves. It was a very hot day, so obviously they became pretty hot, and sweaty, which is to be expected, but doesn't help lifting and carrying if you don't have gloves. One of the movers (cigarette guy) had a pre-existing cut on his hand that we didn't even notice. Well, his bandaid, or whatever he had on it came off while they were bringing our mattress upstairs and the cut reopened. This was a serious cut. Mind you I had 3 different covers on my mattress, but somehow he still managed to get a serious amount of BLOOD all over my mattress. Not a drop, a very large amount. I was absolutely shocked, and called Jay - the owner of the company - who amazingly didn't think it was a big deal. BLOOD ON MY MATTRESS!!! He absolutely treated me like a hysterical woman and wouldn't even discuss compensation until he talked to my husband. Then to make matters worse, while we were talking to Jay, the movers broke the light on the way up our stairs. They were professional and apologetic, but the damage was done. At that point it was on Jay to make it right and he didn't. He already had our $200 deposit, there was nothing we could do. Nevermind he owed us for a new mattress and new light, he did nothing. Don't hesitate - call these guys today if you've got a move on your hands. Here's why... First, I contacted Jay, after finding his listing on craigslist. He was the first that I contacted and within 24 hours I had an email back from him with the full details. Everything was up front and honest with NO HIDDEN FEES - key if you've ever dealt with other companies. So I emailed to book, and within 48 hours I had my move booked for a VERY REASONABLE FEE! Talk about quick turn around and awesome service. Plus I emailed on Monday for a Saturday move - so they're really quick! On the day of the move, the movers (Jude and Adam) arrived right on time and were a pleasure to work with - polite, well presented, and efficient - not to mention strong as bulls! ;) I don't think they stood around or wasted any time, as some of the other posts commented - but everyone gave them 5 stars so it couldn't be bad. The move went smoothly - they did it all, including getting it all downstairs and packing/unpacking the truck. Everything was in there really tight - so I felt comfortable driving the truck ( you have to rent your own truck but that's easy! And they'll drive it if you don't feel comfortable driving - but renting the truck yourself keeps the prices down.) In the end, we were happy to tip the two man team for a job well done. Unlike most others who have used their service, ours was a very long distance move. We moved from MA to NC. Starting the day off at 9:00am, Jay and his crew arrived a few minutes early. We expected the loading process to take at least 4 hours, but it was completed in less than 3. We were pleasantly surprised, since there were a few oversized pieces of furniture and narrow, winding stairs to maneuver. The movers were pleasant and professional throughout the process. We've moved several times before and were originally worried about driving the truck long distance with a full load. However, Jay assured us that the weight would be evenly distributed. The truck drove as smooth as my car on the interstate and through town, not to mention we encountered some severe weather along the way. We are grateful for the extra effort by Jay to make our move as easy as possible. Upon arriving in Charlotte, we hired a crew to unload. The unloaders mentioned how carefully everything was loaded. After 890 miles, all of our belongings were exactly as they were when leaving Boston. Again, thanks for the extra effort! We would recommend their services to anyone in need of experienced movers!!! Excellent from A-Z!! I just got a new job in San Diego CA and had 2 weeks to prep for my move. I sent an email in to ask about prices and Ill be honest Ive never moved myself before so I had a bunch of questions and concerns. Jay, I believe the manager or owner wrote me back with a rough estimate and helped me out a great deal with suggestions to make this as smooth as possible. He pointed me in the right direction with a truck rental and also all the supplies I needed to ensure my stuff didnt fall apart across country. Well I made it and things couldnt of went any smoother. The movers that showed up were great! I was worried all of my stuff wouldnt fit in the truck but these guys are masters at manuevering things and making it work. Also they were super nice and made this nightmare of moving a breeze! Jay was great too..he even called me during the move to make sure things were going ok. I think he knew how nervous I was. We were in a tough situation when the buyers of our house changed the time we had to vacate my house within 48 hours of the move on a Friday afternoon! We had to cancel the movers we had and start calling around frantically. We were in such a panic. Then we got Jay. He didn't have a truck but worked out a plan with us, problem solving all the way, and sent us two of the greatest movers ever....Charlie and Ian...to help us pack a U-Haul. These people are not only wicked smart, but wicked kind, and wicked helpful. Charlie and Ian quickly became part of the family..we were in such a panic mode, they helped calm us down...except when Charlie saw our tiny dog and ran down the street like a little girl...he is petrified of all dogs!!!! They came to our new house and helped us unpack and also gave me some very valuable decorating tips!!! I would highly recommend Wicked Smart Movers at any time. Moving blows. If you have even a small move and you are moving within the Boston area, this is the mover for you. I emailed the guy who runs Wicked Smart to arrange my move with a few weeks notice, and from the get-go, he was fast, informative and helpful. He even negotiated with me on the price. For $400, they gave me 2 movers for 4 hours, and for a $35 flat fee, they rented the truck, too. They movers were prompt, laid-back, careful with my stuff and really fast. I was moving into a place where people already lived, and they helped move around some of the their furniture, too. They also moved stuff around *in our basement* to help accommodate my stuff. I did not have any problems with professionalism or planning. They did have a 4 hour minimum, but for $435 including the huge hassle of getting a moving truck and navigating that truck around Boston, I thought they were very fairly priced. I cannot say enough good things about this company. Jay, Charlie, and Ian have now done moves for me for the last two years and honestly were a huge resource during a most stressful time. Jay is so expedient in response and is extremely knowledgeable about the moving process and very fair about pricing. By the time moving day comes around, he has gone over all the specifics about what to expect but he also is in consistent contact throughout the day. Charlie and Ian are so friendly, fast, and just make the whole day much more pleasant than one could ever hope to expect. Moving is stressful. Jay and his team made it about as pleasant and lighthearted as can be so that I, as the customer, was not as stressed. Jim and Jesus (Zeus) are two of the best in the business. I received an e-mail to confirm everything a few days in advance of the move, which also included their contact information so I could reach them to work out any last minute details. They showed up on time and ready to help us load a 26 foot truck, which took them less than an hour. These guys are strong, smart, intuitive, professional, fast, creative and tireless. In addition to knowing what they were doing, they will listen to any input you have. They both went above the call of duty every opportunity they could. I can't imagine a move that doesn't have a few unforeseen hangups, these guys were prepared to handle everything. They completely took the stress out of the move, and created a fun high energy atmosphere. I'm sitting on my couch relaxing with a glass of wine this evening after one of the easiest moves I have ever had thanks to Wicked Smart Movers. The guys were absolutely wonderful with everything, they showed up (before I even did!) to my apt, had my stuff moved out as quickly as they could and even offered to drive the truck to my new place. Once we arrive at my new place and it ended up that we couldn't get my box-spring up the stairs, they wasted no time and lifted it right through my back porch. No stress, no hassle. They finished before the time I had requested them for, and so they spent time helping me set up my bed and move furniture around the apt. TERRIBLE service. Took a chip out of my dark wood bed and claimed it was my fault - it wasn't - they eventually found the chipped wood INSIDE the moving truck. There were scratches on my bedside table that weren't there before the move. And, not that it was a big deal, but some dishes were also broken. When I called Jay (the owner) to ask him about how we would deal with the damage - he told me to work it out with the guys by taking it out of their tip. He's the boss and that was his job - not mine. He sent relatively nice guys, but they took lots of smoke breaks. The move was way over-priced, took way too long and they just were not careful with my things. I would never recommend them and certainly would not use them again. (By the way, I posted a comment months ago and was very surprised when I came back and didn't see it. hmmmm.) read more

Wicked Smart Movers has been a great company to work with. The initial choice was easy. I got Jay on the phone right away and he answered all my questions right then. After sending out an inventory list, he was the first to get back to me with a quote that was more than reasonable. The day of the move Charlie and Michael showed up right on time and turned out to be two really great guys; professional and friendly. I on the other hand probably fell in the category of "nightmare customer". My daughter and I are both disabled and we had a couple of major problems in the week before the move so I was not completely ready. Jay was very responsive and helpful from my initial inquiry, and made a point to update me about arrival time day-of (we were an afternoon job). This allowed us to go about our day rather than spend the entire afternoon waiting around. When the two-man crew arrived (Ian and Charlie), they were friendly and speedy. They packed our furniture in 20 minutes flat, all the while demonstrating care for our belongings. The unpacking on the other end was similarly speedy, and they were once again very careful -- very important to us, as our new place had recently been renovated and painted. They also managed to fit our sofa up a very tight stairwell, and to inventively reassemble our bed despite a missing screw. We'll definitely be using Wicked Smart again in the future. read more

I had a great experience with both the crew and the owner, Jay, from Wicked Smart movers. The guys who came were very careful about my belongings which was a great plus for me based on previous experiences! They carefully maneuvered heavy furniture through narrow spaces and over banisters with humor that I truly appreciated (after I had covered my eyes from the stress of it!). Jay was good to work with and even kept a secret that my daughter had sent him payment for the balance before the movers arrived (she's a 5-star, too...). My only regret is that I didn't get a discount for finding typos on their website because I'm Wicked Smart, too [grin]. I would highly recommend wicked smart movers. I booked with another moving company due to a slightly lower fee. When I let Jay of Wicked Smart know, he graciously wished me good luck and out of curiousity wanted to know who I was moving with. When I told him, he warned me of their past record. When I looked into it, Jay was 100% correct. He saved me from an awful experience. To make things better, Wicked Smart Movers were absolutely wonderful. I am writing specifically for Mike and Charlie, my actual movers and would like to give them both 5 stars! In a nutshell, they were awesome! They were efficient, competent, respectful, super fast, friendly and very professional. They are two of the hardest working movers that I have ever dealt with. I would also like to add and equally as important; that it was refreshing to be treated with the upmost courtesy, kindness and respect during the moving day by the two of them.
