In agreement with one of the other comments below regarding her rude demeanor and unnecessary comments. Obviously my dress needed to be altered which is why I was there in the first place and was willing to pay her for her services. (Which were ridiculously outrageous). I'm giving her two stars because the dress was satisfactory, but I will never go to her again. The whole dressing situation with no privacy was very uncomfortable. She really left a bad taste in my mouth and it makes me sad to think of those moments of my wedding planning because I remember leaving her shop in tears for feeling ridiculed before one of the most important days of my life. I visited Widad for an estimate on alterations for my wedding gown. She is listed on Mia Couture Bridal's preferred vendor list and after a visit with her I can understand why. Widad is very thorough and honest on the cost of alterations, time needed, and how each dress varies. After meeting with her, I understand that it defeats the purpose of spending what brides do on wedding gowns and then skimping on alterations cost. While I ended up going with another vendor, I was more educated on the alterations needed and the cost after meeting with Widad. I wanted to leave this positive review because she was so helpful. Widad helped me understand the differences between English Netting and Tulle and why bustling these materials is more labor intensive because of the delicate nature of the fabric and to ensure that all parts of the bustle match the hemline. My dress would need a minimum of 20 bustle points for the netting and another 5-7 for the lining underneath, in addition to hemming, and brining in the bodice slightly. Widad takes cash or check and after seeing me stress about the cost (~1100), she offered a slight discount. Again, I didn't work with her and the other vendor I went with was slightly less, but I greatly appreciated her time, knowledge, and honesty. Widad did an excellent job tailoring my BHLDN wedding dress. She was friendly, professional, and knew what she was doing. She has fine handiwork. First, she pinned me all up to get the estimate. There really was no pressure to stay; she gave me a moment to call and consult the fiancé and such. When I decided to go with her for tailoring, she began immediately. We booked the second and final fitting that day too. During the second fitting, she hadn't cut anything yet, but made sure everything looked good. She made some changes on the hem when she noticed something wasn't sitting right. By the third fitting, she was done with alterations. I tried on the dress, and it fit like a glove. She did a lot to my dress and they all looked amazing. She added push up bra pads, took in the sides, straps, hemmed all 5 layers of skirt, and did a complicated bustle. Disclaimer: It's very expensive here. FYI. If price is a main concern, go elsewhere. My main concern was looking amazing, and that's what I got here. My experience here was good, and I looked and felt fabulous on the day of, so to me, it was all worth it. WIDAD! What can I say.... I can ONLY say positive things. I've only done TWO fittings with her. I went to New York's Kleinfeld and immediately fallen in love with a Pnina Tornai couture wedding gown (dream collection). I didn't want to go back to New York for every alteration. That is just too time consuming. I found Widad, online! It took 6 months to make, and less than 3 months of alterations. I gave Widad so much time as I knew some things would be hand sewn, and the dress was quite large on me. She did an amazing work of the bustle (beautiful!). Very detail-oriented. She hemmed to perfection with my choice of heel height. I didn't feel like I would stumble in my wedding gown. I can also sit down with the dress!!! She also took in the dress, and this was quite difficult as it took a lot of hand sewing! My wedding gown has a deep back detail. Luckily, I asked Pnina to give extra 3D floral material in case I needed to cover more butt-crack. Haha, Widad also placed the 3D floral material to hide any indecency from the public!! Totally impressed how she managed to blend in the 3D look with other 3D details. I absolutely would HIGHLY recommend Widad to anyone fearing that other seamstresses would mess up their gowns. There is a reason Widad has such great reviews. Although pricey, she is less than what you would pay to re-do your dress should you have a disaster elsewhere and well worth the money. If you want to look and feel beautiful, go to Widad. She is very organized and helps you to figure out when to do each fitting relative to your wedding. She patiently pinned my 20+ layer dress twice (two different fittings) so that I would glide above the ground. Widad also created my veil and fixed the back of my dress to fit my height (a lacy illusion number that required a lot of careful effort to re-create). She even put my mom in her place when arguing over the correct way to do a bustle (Widad was correct!). In the end, my dress fit like a glove and looked like it had been custom made to my body. Everyone said I glowed and I know much of that was due to how beautiful I felt in my dress thanks to Widad's amazing work. Widad even went above and beyond to rescue my maid of honor's dress hemline last minute after being done incorrectly by another tailor. I was entertained by the stories of her life and highly recommend getting to know her as you might learn a thing of two. I recommend paying in cash. Why I think she deserves one star? Because she completely ruined my first experience of going to a wedding dress alteration consultation. (Skip to #4 if you're in a hurry) 1. I wanted to reschedule my appointment to an earlier time but she told me the consultation would take an hour so I ended up planning my Friday night around it. How long did it really take to get an estimate? 15 minutes. 2. She didn't seem too thrilled when we first met. Maybe because I don't look like I belong in West U? Or maybe she assumed I was a teenager because of my young face and lack of height? Either way, I felt very unwelcomed and rushed. 3. Expensive. 4. One week prior, I picked up my dress and it fit me perfectly (zipped all the way up). I loved it more than I ever thought I would! When I tried on my dress for the seamstress, she stated that it was impossible to zip. Shocked and embarrassed, I tried to explain to her that I just received the dress last week and it did fit me with the help of time and a little body heat. She did not listen to me but continued to say that I did not fit it, that my friend should "try" to zip it up, that eating healthy and exercising is the way to go, that the bridal store (Brickhouse Bridal) lied to me about my size, and that the zipper will break if we keep on trying. Yes, I understand that I could have been bloated but her remarks were completely uncalled for! Mind you, I am an average size woman. I wear size 6/8 in dresses and am blessed in the chest. I DO NOT care if she is talented. Her unprofessional demeanor does not deserve my time or money. Being honest and helpful is one thing, but being insensitive and disrespectful is another thing. She's very honest with her opinions, and will tell you if something can be done or not. I also had her tailor my Chinese Qipao dress for the wedding reception, and it turned out AMAZING! I am thrilled about my experience working with Widad on my wedding gown alterations. From start to finish, I felt like I was in the hands of a fantastic seamstress. Widad is such a professional and performed a beautiful job. I had several requests for my dress such as: - I wanted the sides of the gown by the hips tighter - Needed a bustle - Taken up in the front for walking room - Needed to tighten the one-shoulder strap I am fastidious (especially when it came to my wedding gown) but I felt at ease after my first meeting with Widad. Listening to how she spoke about all of my requests made me feel like she would execute the changes the best way possible. And I couldn't be more right. The first time I went back in after the alterations, I tried on the dress and it was a perfect fit. There was no need for further changes. At that point I couldn't be happier. During the same appointment, we talked about a veil and she agreed to create a custom silk veil for me to my exact specifications and in a color that matched my dress. Once completed I went back to try on the veil and again, perfection. This past Saturday I finally picked up my dress and as promised it was pressed along with my veil and looking absolutely BEAUTIFUL! She had it hanging like a piece of artwork when I walked in and I cannot tell you how excited I felt. I realize Widad sees many brides every week. But you would never know it. She truly cares about you, your wedding, and your dress as an individual. Her enthusiasm is genuine and that just added a special touch to everything. I purchased my wedding dress at the Bridal Galleria of Texas in San Antonio, and I was given a slip of paper that included Widad's Couture Alterations alongside a few other recommended alterations places in Houston. I called each of the places other than Widad's too and for the most part had the person on the other end of the phone scoff at me telling them that I needed to pick it up by May 28 when I was calling in late April. Widad was very professional on the phone, polite, and told me that while the timing was tight, she would take a look at the dress to see what alterations are needed--I ended up only needing a hem and the straps taken in, so they were relatively minimal. I had 3 fittings over a month or so, and the dress fit me perfectly on my wedding day. I couldn't be happier with her work, and would recommend it to any Houston area brides. That being said, a simple bustle, the hem and the taking in of the straps cost approximately 600$, and I can easily imagine the average extent of alterations costing close to 1k here. However, given how expensive wedding dresses are in the first place, I would suggest not skimping on alterations, as a bad job of it can ruin the dress you already paid $$$ for. The great thing is also that Widad is very upfront re: what each modification would cost during the first fitting, so there are no surprises, and I would imagine you could walk away and choose a different place if the quote she gave was too high. Widad is simply the best in her field as far as I'm concerned! Her attention to detail and craftsmanship are impeccable, and I could not have been happier with how my wedding gown turned out. She was extremely thorough throughout each step of the process (3 fittings total), and the end result was honestly wow-worthy. It looked as if the dress was custom made for my body from the start. My gown had a very full skirt, and she created the most beautiful French bustle for it (and knew immediately that any other style of bustle would not look right). When it came time for my final fitting, she made sure to explain and practice it step-by-step multiple times with my mom and sister to make sure they were comfortable bustling my gown on their own the day of the wedding. It really did turn out so well - even my now husband commented on how beautiful the bustle in particular looked! We also had a special request to bring my grandparents to the final fitting since they are not in the best health, and were not going to be able to attend the wedding. Widad was very accommodating of them, and made sure that it was a special experience for all of us. We were all very appreciative. I honestly couldn't recommend her more to any bride. I felt comfortable that my gown was in the absolute best hands, and know you will, too. My dress didn't need much alteration, just length and making a bit smaller. My dress was all lace and I was concerned that the top portion which was also lace would stretch throughout the night and make the dress too long but Widad assured me that would not happen. Well immediately after my ceremony before my husband and I were going to enter and do our first dance I realized the dress was about 1 to 2 inches too long from having simply lengthened from me standing for a long time. Thank goodness for my party planner who was able to literally safety pin my dress the 2 inches needed so I wouldn't be stepping on it all night. It's really disappointing to have spent so much money on a dress, have Widad charge an insane amount of money for what had to be done, and then have to have my wedding dress safety pinned for the duration of my wedding. Even after it was pinned as I was dancing on the dance floor I had to hold the bottom in my hands so I wouldn't step on it the entire night. Widad is extremely nice and according to other reviews and really the rest of my dress good at her job, but when I expressed this concern she brushed it off and I believed her. Widad saved my life! Okay, well, not my life, but she certainly saved me from the very expensive headache of replacing my wedding gown. I had my first alterations done at the same store that I bought my dress, only to have the neckline completely botched, an extremely uneven hemline (uneven by 2-3 inches in adjacent areas), and a bustle that was inappropriate for the dress. Widad spent 90 minutes with me at my first fitting with her and was able to fix the neckline (that was nearly un-fixable, but Widad is a miracle worker!), hemmed my dress appropriately, and created a custom bustle for me that hangs beautifully on my dress. Overall, Widad was incredible and extremely professional and put all of my worries at ease, I would highly recommend her! I purchased a dress that was 10 sizes too big, knowing it would need quite a bit of altering. After reading the great reviews from Widad I made an appointment for a fitting and estimate. From the beginning I was uncomfortable because she just sent me in a room with no changing area and had me get into the dress, door to the lobby open, basically standing there watching (I hade a bridesmaid to help me get in it so she didn't need to help). The entire time I was there she raved about oh how beautiful the dress was and so forth and honestly, it felt very fake and schmoozey. She only gave me options for EXTREMELY complicated bustles when I asked for something that would be simple to do at the wedding. In the end the price came out to a ridiculously high amount and she seemed pretty irritated that I didn't agree with her quote. She acted like she was doing me a huge favor by dropping it from $800 to $750. I'm so glad I took my dress somewhere else for a second opinion. It turned out beautiful and I was charged $180. I do not recommend Widad unless you want to pay an outrageous price for someone to pretend like you are a princess. read more
