We celebrated a friend's birthday at Widows in early March, and we had a wonderful experience. We had a large party and we made a reservation, we were promptly seated at our reservation time with the table already prepared. Our waitress was kind and efficient, she was able to split checks for our large party and handle multiple payments. For my entree, I went with the blackened chicken pasta, which featured blackened chicken, spicy Alfredo, mushrooms, tomatoes, and penne. The noodles were cooked al dente, and the sauce was creamy and packed with flavor. I was a bit skeptical about ordering pasta, but I'm glad I did, as it exceeded my expectations. My friend went with the Widow's meatloaf, which was juicy, hearty, and well seasoned. It came with a generous serving of creamy mashed potatoes. We wrapped up the meal with tiramisu. We hosted a surprise 60th birthday dinner for my mom at Widow's and it was a fabulous evening! The food was incredible! Im still dreaming about the blacken chicken pasta, it was so creamy and delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked and the mashed potatoes were out of this world! Our family had the best time here celebrating my mom. The service was amazing. They took such great care of our large party (20 adults and 2 kids) and were so attentive and pleasant. I'm a local who came on Election Day. Nice clean place, and great atmosphere at the bar. I had the Chicken Francaise, (I order it everywhere when on the menu) which was the best I've ever had and worth the price point. Amazing flavor, fresh and just the right portion served with rice that was delicious also. A huge fresh Cesar Salad came with it that was huge and very fresh. A big compliment to the chef who garnished it with roasted tomatoes instead of boring old lemon slices. Update to my previous review: They're back! They're better than ever! After hearing from the owner, I visited this long-time favorite with my brother, his wife, and his daughter. We were not disappointed--the menu was a bit different, but we all had great meals. We started with some appetizers--the Fried Mozzarella, using cheese from another local favorite place, Klein Farms, was phenomenal. The dish comes as two large patties, breaded and fried, and easily cut into four portions. We also indulged in some Dry Rubbed Wings, also delicious. My brother let me taste his She-Crab Soup, which was perfect. My sister-in-law and my niece both had the All-American Burger and were happy with their selections. My brother had the Pulled Pork, which he enjoyed as well. The potato chips accompanying the meals were even better than before, lightly seasoned and satisfyingly crunchy. Of course I had to get the English Burger, which was as good as I remembered and was done perfectly. My New Jersey friends and I will be coming back soon. I rarely re-review places but widows has gone rapidly downhill over the past year. I understand Covid pressures etc and many establishments have really shone during this time. I venture that I have been to widows nearly 100 times over the years ( including large groups, wedding rehearsal dinners, business meetings and family) but will no longer go. Called ahead around 5:30ish. Had made a reservation thru app for a timed reservation... was eventually denied and told no reservations until 7:50 earliest. Asked about bar seating and was told sure there's plenty of room. Got there around 6. 2 seats left. Hostess communicated to us that she'd clean a table and be right with us. Another lady came up to her and they talked and hostess returned and said 15 minutes. Ok. So the 4 of us ordered adult beverages from the impressive Zach and sat down in waiting room. Band shows up to set up their instruments and we jumped up to get out of their way. A shade shy of 7 we finally get seated. Two other parties were seated at the same time. We got menus and they took drink orders. At 7:25 we called the service dead on arrival and left. Still no drinks, no food order put in. To be fair they had a lot of folk eating and enjoying themselves in the dining room, so I would say that they were overwhelmed and short staffed like a few places... but we counted 4 ladies who appeared to work there but avoided our and the 2 other parties tables. My buddy John and I came here on wed. afternoon and had a late lunch and everything was GREAT.....First we met Reagan the bartender and she was nice and very helpful,,,, I had the charbroiled steak sandwich (minus the bread) along with their homemade coleslaw which was excellent and my buddy had the chicken wrap which he also said was excellent ....The bar is very homey and very clean along with the toilets,,,, We met some people there on their front patio area and had a few more cocktails after lunch and had a HOOT.... Stockertown, PA. Widow's Tavern & Grille really rolled out the red carpet from start to finish. Steph asked if we could go dine outside somewhere. My original thought was, of course, downtown Bethlehem. Then I remembered a place I have been seeing amazing photographs of on Facebook. I suggested Widow's Tavern. It was only a 30 minute ride from Emmaus. I must first say Thomas Leauber & his staff are first class hospitality rock stars. From start to finish, we were completely taken care of -- from messaging ahead to reserve outdoor seating, to our parting "see you next time" -- we couldn't have felt more provided for and looked after. Tommy was the consummate professional, less of a server and bartender and more of a luxury automobile salesman. He took the time to ask me what I was thinking while reading the menu, and also was quick to offer his recommendations based upon my reaction to what I was in the mood for. I really appreciate that. He offered his personal input on every dish I ordered. Most places are strict order taking robots... not at Widows. We started off with the wedge salad , which was tremendous! Great chunky house made bleu cheese dressing with added crumbles. The bacon was plentiful chopped small but thick. Brandon Haydt you must try this one! It's was huge, I had to bring half home. We had the Lehigh Valley's legendary Calandra's Fried Mozzarella. I got the full run down on how they source it. This fried mozzarella cheese was worth the half hour trip itself. So crisp on the outside & creamy and decadent on the inside. The sauce was also pretty good. That's a bold statement coming from an Italian . The honey brined wings were very well executed. I ordered as hot as they can possibly make. They were of good size, very crisp and meaty. The sauce wasn't very hot, but had decent flavor. The honey brine is a unique process which I appreciate. It was however slightly too sweet for my personal taste. Steph, on the other had, couldn't get enough. If your a hot & honey person, you must try these. The homemade potato chips were absolutely amazing. I would bath in the house made ranch if it was socially acceptable. The house made blue cheese dip was equally amazing, touting a hint of Old Bay. The mini crab cakes were decent, the beurre blac sauce was so dam good. I'd like that with some fish next trip. We moved into the bar after dinner for a night cap, and there was a great wholesome energy there. The bourbon & scotch selections were on point... Eagle Rare to end the evening. He returns to say there is one restroom and some upstairs. Ok?.. He elaborated the one restroom in the area you sit is handicapped, so he went to the upstairs restroom. Ok ?.. He proceeds to telk me there are no doors just a box built around the toilet that is only shoulder height and its broken, the other is also filthy and broken. When he used the sink the pipes began to rattle and shake violently. This is not a good representation of cleanliness nor pride in this old building. The paper towel dispenser, broken. The Widow burger sounded delicious with fried mozzarella and sauce but it was literally flavorless. My husband was so disgusted he refused to eat his food there. She could not take a moment to acknowledge our existence. She came and left at least 12 times and could not stop even to take out drink order. So waiting for 20 mins we gave up and left. Such a shame. This place has really gone downhill. We tried to enjoy our New Year's Eve dinner here with family, but we were very disappointed. The fried chicken had so much breading that it was hard to taste the chicken, the burger that I ordered medium-rare came out well-done, and the burger that my nephew ordered medium-well came out medium rare. The calamari was pretty good, though. The service was terrible. They weren't very busy but our waitress couldn't be bothered to check on us. My nephew's burger didn't come out until 20 minutes after the rest of the meals had been served and we all had finished eating. To compensate him, they offered a free dessert. He chose the molten lava cake, which had 4 pieces of white plastic in it. Our server was unapologetic and said it must be plastic from the ice cream tub. Adding insult to injury, they automatically tacked on a 20% gratuity (for the lousy service) and then had the gall to print suggestions for an additional gratuity to be added, ranging from 15 to 25%! I was tempted to deduct the gratuity altogether since the service was awful, but then I remembered when the Lehigh Pub had a couple arrested when they refused to tip for horrible service. We paid our bill and the 20% "gratuity" forced upon us, but we will never return. read more
