We were in Augusta Georgia and saw this restaurant that peeked our interest with a name like Wife Saver we thought it was right up our alley. We ordered the 2pc fried chicken combo with two sides and cornbread. My wife went for the mac and cheese and fried okra. I went all in on the mac and cheese along with the rice with gravy. The friend chicken was excellent and the skin was crispy just how we like it. The sides were very good and the cornbread was just right. The service was excellent and the staff with very friendly. The restaurant was very clean and the ambiance read family friendly as soon as we entered. We will be back to try the desserts and would recommend anyone reading this to stop in and give them a try. It leaves a bit to be desired. So the chicken is pretty bland. The other Wife Saver's mac is baked with a layer of cheese on top. This macs cheese didn't even look melted and it, along with the cornbread were room temp. The butter was cold and unspreadable. The service is weird, it's an uncomfortable mix between fast food and restaurant. You order and pick up from the counter but it comes on a real plate with actual silverware that you pick up from the counter. There's no obvious place to put trash and trays so people are leaving them on the table but no one is picking them up. But I guess they're friendly enough. As far as atmosphere, it's dressed as a country bbq restaurant. Then again, service at those places are equally as weird. Idk, I'm going to stick to the one in Grovetown. That's the only decent one I've been to. read more

The food was fresh and made to order in less than hour! The staff was nice and friendly and assisted with taking the food to the car. For starters, why is this place still called Wife Saver? Not to sound too "woke" but is this not offensive to anyone else? Thank goodness my trip to Wife Saver tricked my husband into thinkin' I'd been barefoot, sweating over a hot stove all day so he could have the proper supper he deserves. Silly me, I just didn't have time since I (like many spouses) also work full time and contribute equally to the household income. I won't even get into the fact that it has to be a wife and not a spouse. So I drop it two stars for being ignorant right off the bat. I dropped the third star because the cornbread was the worst I've ever had. I would have expected much more from a southern establishment that clearly values keeping women locked inside studying cookbooks only. I can find 50 better recipes to make myself online. Other than that, the restaurant had a cool play area with vintage toys for the kids, and the baked chicken was actually awesome. Reminds me - they have no allergen menu, so I had to go on the cooks' word which is always scary for a parent. My kids are allergic to eggs so I couldn't get them the fried chicken. Not mad about eggs in the batter - just mad they don't have a document somewhere that tells you what's safe and what's not for those with allergies. Bottom line is I went because I was curious. I really don't like to leave bad reviews - especially if I've had positive experiences previously - but this experience was pretty terrible. Grandkids had baseball practice at Riverside Park after a batting lesson in Augusta, so Wifesaver on Fury's Ferry was on the way. I know the boys like chicken and I've always been a fan of chicken liver so I thought this would be a good choice. Chicken tenders were barely breaded and didn't look appetizing at all. Wife got fish and breading was (again) barely adequate and flavorless. Oldest grandson got chicken wings (he thought they would be wings not actual chicken wings from the bird - whoops I didn't pay attention to his order) and he did his best to eat them. Mac and cheese had barely melted chunks of cheese and the noodles were way overcooked. Hate to say this is the last time I'll eat at this location, but I can't imagine going back again. Wife and I are feeling terrible after a few hours; hope the grandkids aren't feeling terrible at baseball practice. read more

Haven't tasted the food yet, but I called in an order and when I got to the restaurant I paid and the cashier didn't check to see if my food was ready. Turns out my food was ready and I stood there for ten minutes while my food just sat on the back country waiting for me to ask about it again. Also a lady came in with her barefoot son who was probably six years old and he climbed up on the counter and with his feet on the counter and say playing with items they just acted like that was cute. I decided to leave a review to recognize the two gentleman at the drive thru this evening! As we were wanting on our food, I noticed the syrup was out of my sprite I kindly asked if they could switch it and without hesitation they noticed the syrup had to completely be changed and not only did they change it right then, they upgraded my drink size for "inconvenience"! My wife and I decided to go to this particular store since we had been there before, and it was a better one than most of the others. The one on Washington Rd is so bad that I will not be going back there. Anyway, even though we live 10 to 15 miles away, we went and got our food to go. Imagine how I felt when we got home and an entire dinner was left out. I guess that good help is hard to find. The owner did refund the money for the dinner, but I didn't get my chicken and I had to eat something else. I know things happen, but I was the only person who was ordering at that time. Having had a business for 20 years, I understand that customer service and satisfaction are paramount to being successful. My remedy for this would have been to refund the entire amount, not just for the missing dinner. It looks like I will be adding this store to my "don't go back " list. I will definitely be checking every time I get an order from any restaurant. It will probably be best and better for my overall well-being. read more

Heard folks rave about this place - not seeing it. Ordered the fried large shrimp/flounder combo with sweat potato fries and cold slaw & beef pot roast with hush puppies and mash potatoes & gravy. Verdict: 6.3 & 6.5. Anything fried - you could taste the oil just as much as what it was - everything tasted like it was was fried in the same oil at the same time... ehhhh. Sweat potato fries were caked with sugar - not good. Pot roast? Tasted like it was out of a can. We huddled - the unsweet tea, cole slaw, and hush puppies were passable. We think that folks rave maybe because of their fried chicken? We are guessing as the place was packed before we left. read more

This Wife Saver has been decent since they opened and at times, very good. However, I stopped by at 4:00pm to pick up yesterday and picked up two meals. I believe we received food that had been prepared for their usual lunch rush. The corn bread and hush puppies were stale and the chicken didn't taste fresh. My wife threw out her mashed potatoes and mac 'n cheese. The fried okra tasted okay but the coleslaw was warm and very bland. I will likely rethink visiting during off hours. read more

Not everything was perfect, but definitely had a good visit. We went through the drive-through around 2pm on Monday and placed our order for a 4 piece mix meal and a 3 piece white. Each meal comes with a choice of bread and 2 sides. Our food was hot and freah and we received it in less than 5 minutes. The young woman at the window was very nice as well. Also, I did not mind the wait because I am someone that will wait for chicken made fresh to order :) Our chicken came out hot and crispy and the turnip greens were delicious. My husband liked his green beans a lot, and my second side was the mac and cheese. I would have prefered it more if it was a tad bit drier as the noodles were overcooked but othwerwise everything was good. The cornbread is not sweetened (at all) so if you like plain cornbread this mag be for you. Personally, I loved my yeast rolls! I will mention that we got 4 tenders instead of the 4 piece mixed but I brought this to their attention and the fixed it right away. I had a decent pork chop meal with green beans, rice and gravy. I like that the sides are served in small cups which makes it easier for clean up, but I am a little dissapointed in the taste area. I have eaten here many times passing through and I chalked it up to maybe I was too tired or too hungry at the time. Do not get me wrong, the food to me is prepared for a general group of people with maybe certain dietary concerns, but I prefer my foods a bit more seasoned. Will not be going back. The gentleman waiting on me had a mask on that had a bunch of holes positioned right over his nose and mouth. I asked him if he realized that a mask didn't work properly with the holes right over his nose and mouth letting in and letting out air. He proceeded to argue with me that no masks work. The sad part is it's really close to my house. But every time I go there the service is very slow or they are out of what I want. The banana pudding is very good, my kids love it. The food was good but no energy behind the counter. I was really sad for my child when I encouraged him to ask for the banana pudding sample I always remember getting with the kids meal. First off, the food here is fantastic, the restaurant is clean, and the location is great. Now for the two star review reasons: 1. SERVICE IS TERRIBLE!!!! I got better service from the servers in the dining facility while I was in the military. From the cashier to the people making your food, you would think everyone was on death row. They don't smile. They don't greet you. They act like you're bothering them during their last minutes of being able to stand around and do nothing. And when you don't tip them because they won't even greet or smile at you, it actually gets worse. They basically sneer at you. AT LEAST SMILE AT ME OR SAY HELLO IF YOU WANT A TIP FOR SIMPLY DOING YOUR JOB! This restaurant would be PACKED if they would hire some people who actually know what customer service is. I think it's run by family of the owners, so perhaps they actually feel above performing the jobs that they are doing. Well newsflash, you're running your restaurant out of business with the terrible service. The only reason I still go is because my four year old daughter likes to play with the toy tables. THAT'S IT! She won't be four forever or always want chicken as most four year olds do. 2. The drive through is ridiculous. You might as well turn your car off in between moving, because it literally is about 5 minutes per car, regardless of whether you're getting a family meal or just a sweet tea. The reason it is so slow is touched on in number one. I went in tonight, with my daughter of course, and the line for the drive through was several cars deep. When I got inside, only one person was actually making plates while 3-4 others stood around and talked. People are waiting for their food, which is already prepared, by the way, and just needs to be put into to-go plates, and these JAs are standing around wasting everyone's time. WHERE IS THE MANAGEMENT? 3. When I was sitting and having dinner with my four year old, she asked me what that was on the TV. I turn around and it's a murder scene because the TV is on "Forensic Files" or something similar. Really? Who decided on that channel for a restaurant? Appetite killer for adults and traumatizing for a child at the same time, right? I didn't want to interrupt the inmates, so I just changed our seating arrangement. 4. Did I mention TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE?????? I would LOVE to have the opportunity to own a business like this. It simply needs someone who is willing to put in some hours between 10:00 AM to about 8:00 PM to ensure the employees are providing excellent customer service. It would be extremely popular. Get involved with the schools! Get involved with the churches! Why do you think Shane's Rib shack is so successful? It isn't because they have good food (it's terrible). I got the fried fish and shrimp platter with their broccoli rice Casserole and their turnip greens... Both the sides had me excited when I ordered them... But when I got them they were luke warm at best... And mushy.... The fish was decent... Not over cooked... But the breeding was very bland... Come on guys!
