Looking for a place to get a burger and a beverage while waiting for a flight from PIT to IAD. This place was mobbed with whiskey lovers. Wigle is a local Pittsburgh distillery. At this location, you can try their whisky, bourbon, gin, rye, rum and absinthe products.
After some confusion on my part, the bartender (whose voice sounds like Jesse from Breaking Bad!) finally came out to my table which was along the outside of the restaurant along the A gate corridor and mentioned that orders should be taken at the bar. I asked if he wanted me to go to the bar to order and he said no, he was already at my table. But that I was supposed to go to the bar to order. Hence my confusion. There were no signs nor notification on the menu that orders had to be made at the bar (minus two stars for my having to read minds but re-adding a star for Jesse's voice). He took my order for an Aloha from the Mon cocktail. The food prices are listed on the menu. The cocktail prices are not. I think $10 for my cocktail is acceptable.
Service was slow. There was only one bartender/server/porter working and he was slammed. We all felt sorry for him. Timeline was longer than expected yet I had 3 hours until my flight departed. I sat at my table for 15 minutes before figuring out I was supposed to order at the bar but by that time the bartender had come out. My cocktail arrived after 15 minutes from ordering it. My burger and fries came out 30 minutes after my drink arrived and I then ordered the burger. I got a soda eventually. Didn't feel rushed but then the place was busy and usually food comes out quicker in an airport location where people have flights to catch. Again, not enough staff.
I was starving having missed lunch due to meetings. The Wigle burger was tasty and warm and cooked medium which is fine with me. The cheese was nicely melted, the bacon was crispy and the whisky BBQ sauce added a complimentary flavor. The bun wasn't squishy and held up nicely. The fries were lukewarm but still crunchy. My cocktail was good yet had a ton of ice in it. The woman next to me got a very healthy pour of a glass of chardonnay which is a plus.
Most of the rest of the clientele were eating either burgers or appetizers along with their drinks. There are other spirits available other than the Wigle products. Wine is also available by the glass. And Coca-Cola products. They don't sell bottles of their brand name alcohol at this airport location which is a shame. My husband is a whisky and bourbon fan and certainly likes to try others. I would have bought some bottles for holiday gifts.
I'd definitely stop back on my next trip to/from or through PIT. Would recommend that the management takes a look at staffing. Also the kitchen either ran out of food or stopped serving food around 6PM. Very odd for a restaurant that serves dinner and alcoholic beverages until 8PM. Stop by anyway. Maybe they were just short-staffed. read more
