I gave this place a 5 star purely because of the food. The service and interior are forgettable, but the food here is AMAZING. I love this place. My favorite dishes are the stir-fried singapore mai fun and the general tsao's soy protein. As someone who eats meat, I have to say the soy protein is surprisingly tasty and satisfying. Excellent vegan Chinese with Malaysian and Thai influences. Very nice atmosphere. The mushy pork is excellent as is the pumpkin soup.

When we first walked in I felt not welcomed, the entire place was empty except for one lady sitting alone, but I decided to give it a try as my husband has decided to become vegan recently. It was my husband and I plus our 15 month old baby, a high chair was never offered even though in my opinion a restaurant should always have them available. The food was good but the customer service was the worse I seen in a while, after the food was brought they never came to check on us or to even ask if we needed anything else. There was two waiters and no one else to attend as their one other customer had left. Their faces the entire time was like they didn't want to bother with any human interaction. Terrible. My husband even had to get up and go see them to be able to get our bill while he was doing that I was walking around and playing with my son, who happened to drop his hat on the floor in front of one of the waiters, she actually walked around it and kept moving. Unbelievable this was the last straw for me, needless to say I will NEVER EVER come to this place again. The decor looks great and the food is tasty. The presentation of the food gets an A+ and the food quantity comes in an an abundance. I absolutely love the area of this location in Billy Burg. There are always people walking around the neighborhood and the diversity cannot be challenged. We're vegan and really like the food but we ate there tonite and were surprised by the not particulate warm service. At one point we were the only people in the restaurant and would have liked a follow up after our food was served but the two girls who were working were glued to their phones and eating while we waited. They could have cared less that we were there and even when we tried to engage one of them in conversation we felt like she just wanted us to order and shut up. If I were the owner I would care about their lack of hospitality because non vegans will probably leave a much poorer review. read more

Yummy vegan food, though they couldn't fulfill my request of an oil-free meal, the waiter said "the veggies will not cook right without at least a little bit of oil", which is not true cause I sauté my veggies in water all the time and they come out perfectly, but anyway, they made it up with a glass of wine on the house. I LOVE this place! I am vegan and my mom is a new vegetarian, but I have been bringing her here since long before she considered it. Ever since the first time I brought her here to eat, she keeps asking me to go back. It is one of our favorite spots. Wow. I ordered delivery from here last night. Curry Noodle Soup was unidentifiable. inedible. i couldn't even tell what was tofu and what was supposed to be a vegetable. Looks like it was made two weeks ago and tasted awful. Noodles came separate and tasting them without the soup they tasted like dirty water. really disgusting. I also got the pad thai. it was completely congealed and also the tofu was indistinguishable. tasted terrible. i threw it all away. really disgusting food. will never eat here again. read more

'Meat Substitute' Restaurant v/s 'Vegan/Vegetarian' Restaurant My wife and I are vegetarians who grew up on vegetarian food. Our idea of vegetarian food is using plant based ingredients to make plant based food. Wild Ginger is technically a vegetarian/vegan restaurant in the sense that there is no meat served here. But that is where the distinction should be made. It is a vegetarian restaurant whose primary objective appears to be to serve vegetarian food that most resembles meat dishes. So essentially this is a Meat-substitute restaurant which uses plant based ingredients to make meat-based food. The Bibimbap - that is supposed to be vegetarian - smelt and tasted like fish. All the soy protein tastes and feels like meat. So, really, this restaurant is meant for meat eaters who want to try some non-meat food or for people who used to eat meat and now prefer vegetarian 'alternatives' to meat. To be clear, this is not a critique of the quality of the food in itself (and hence the 3 stars). Yes, we did not enjoy the food even one bit. But it looks like people like us - who grew up as true vegetarians - are not even the targeted customers. So a meat eater who wants to eat non-meat dishes will probably like this place. So the best way to categorize this place would be as a 'Meat Substitute' restaurant instead of a 'Vegetarian/Vegan' Restaurant. read more

I enjoyed the seitan skewers & the scallion pancakes! The Black Pepper Seitan dish was delicious, but I wish the Chinese broccoli had more garlic. One thing I didn't appreciate: The hostess asked my friend & I whether we wanted a table for two. Then asked whether we know it's vegan food. "Um...duh! That's why we're here," I thought. I have ordered really good dishes from here before such as the pad see ew, however do NOT order the tofu teriyaki. It is so unappetizing. It costs $12 not including tax and tip and its a few slabs of tofu sitting on baby carrots and soggy bean sprouts. SO DISAPPOINTED. If i wanted baby carrots I would go to a supermarket, not a restaurant. Better yet, when I said something, they were not willing to make any changes. That is what made me decide that I will NOT order from here again. If they had made a change to the order, I would try it again but the fact that they were so stubborn and served me baby carrots for basically $14 is unacceptable. read more

I don't know what happened to this place, it used to be ok when I ordered from here last time. This time, it felt like the paper bag the food was packed in had more flavor. Everything, from that iced tea to general tso's was absolutely bland. The Som Tam salad was a joke - it was basically shredded green papaya and lime. Read the reviews but tried it out anyway. Dirty. One bathroom that the staff seemed to constantly be in. One employee came out as I went in and dryer not running I'm sure did not wash hands. I have been ordering from Wild Ginger for years mostly because I have limited options being vegan. The food is average although pretty consistent, so during the lunch special it's worth it but when they do dinner $16 for entree definitely its not. My main complaint with them is, I have been a regular for years and frankly they don't care and it shows. Every time I've had a special request whether I order over the phone or on grubhub they just don't follow through. My request are simple like can I have extra lime with my noodle dish, or extra chopsticks, or one time I asked to have an extra naan for the curry dipping dish and I was willing to pay extra they no and would charge for another full order, and the most recent request I asked to have my sauce on the side and NOPE! There's ZERO customer loyalty with them. I always order from the same places. I'm busy and I'm vegan so those things are important to me! There's are tons new places opening so I don't see how they can last if they continue to treat there customers like this! read more

Great spread. Huge variety for vegetarian and vegans. The food came promptly on ordering, and it tasted good. It was a bit bland to our pallette though. We were a group of 8 people. The place isn't huge, but still quite spacious with a beautiful ambience. I recommend making reservations if you are a big group, otherwise they are not that crowded. They couldn't handle customers when the restaurant started filling up, there were only two waiters. And they definitely need more cutlery, we had to keep asking them to give enough for everyone. But again, maybe it was because they were short on staff. In all I would recommend this place for vegetarians and vegans. The food is good, ambience is great and service is great too. read more
