Before coming to Atlanta for a wedding where I was lucky enough to be best man had I been introduced to Wild Heaven Brewery. When thinking about where I wanted to go, the Groom said this brewery had some of the best beer in the city and might be his absolute favorite. With a glowing review like that I had to go and get some pours (since they don't do small pours). Electric Avenue: A Munich Wine aged in Bulleit Rye 95 Barrels to bring a Boulevardier inspired beer. Garden Beer Season 18: An India Pale Lager brewed in collaboration with Atlanta Botanical Garden and changes every season. Good vibes at wild heaven! Stopped in on a Sunday to grab some brews and there was live music and lots of outside seating options- from couches, to benches, to high tops. There was also a vegan restaurant on site where you could purchase food. They had a few different sour options on the menu I tried the you beautiful tropical fish. They also had a seltzer option which I enjoyed too. The parking was free and a short trek from the brewery. They also sell 6packs and other beer options to go. This is their second location that I've been to. The other one is in the west side. I went as part of a beer premiere. Their head brew master is really brilliant. He is very familiar with flora and fauna and has the mind of a chef. It really shows in their beers. They have a great outdoor seating area and a tap room that is very much like a barn or a warehouse. Heads up there is no AC so be careful if you're going on a hot day. Our annual auction event was held here and I must admit I was frustrated with parking it was definitely limited so I ended up parking off the lot and walking back down to the venue. We were very excited to check out this craft brewery, we recently discovered their Emergency Drinking Beer and loved the Citrus version of that. Long story short.... Enjoyed the Watermelon beer and a hoppy ale (don't remember which one), the bartender was super friendly and helpful and the layout was open, airy and nicely done. I can't remember the bartender's name but I would come back there just because she was so rad! She had long brown/blond dreadlocks. My beef with this spot: we were starving and drove to a halfway spot to meet my dad for dinner through a bunch of Atlanta's legendary nightmare traffic. When we got there they said they don't serve food on the weekdays. That's not what their website says and I was on the verge of falling out for hunger. We wanted to try a few more of the Wild Heaven beers but ended up getting hangry then foraging for food at pizza spot nearby. Wild Heaven ranks at the top of my most favorite craft beer brands/companies. Since first tasting their Eschaton while eating lunch at an amazing Asian restaurant in Nashville, I have been on a mission to find a place locally to get that beer. Then a few years back they came to Zoobrew at the Nashville zoo and friends and I lived at their stand most of the night even though there were probably a hundred other breweries to choose from. Then at another Nashville restaurant that served tapas, I tried their White Blackbird which is also very very good. Which led me to pack up and take a weekend trip to Georgia with my girlfriend to pick up some of their beer that I can't find anywhere in Nashville. My only disappointment was that when we showed up they didn't have any Eschaton! To my dumbfounded disbelief, I learned that it is a seasonal beer. Then in November I called and found out they didn't make the "normal" Eschaton beer this year, but I'm determined to make some time to get back down here to try some of the version they did make for 2020, just as soon as I can get back towards Atlanta! Party of 1... Pop in pop out Wild Heaven is tucked away on a side street in the heart of Decatur. This area has a bunch of breweries, but this one has been on my list for awhile. There are a number of parking spaces available in the front of the property. The place is huge, when I walked in I could see the main bar right in front of me. When I looked to the right I could see the team brewing up the next batch. The bartender at the main bar kinda gave me a bar snob vibe. He was not out right rude, but not friendly either. He was informative and curt. He advised that they are totally cashless at this location. I asked a few questions and settled on a not too hoppy IPA called "Regarding Your Car's Extended Warranty vol2." I took my beer and sat outside at one of their wooden tables with an umbrella. There was a nice cool breeze, I could have sat there for hours. I noticed there was a little stage setup, so I assume they have regular live entertainment. Wild Heaven does not serve their own food, but they partnered with a food truck that was parked out front. There were about 2 nice sized TVs on the property, one inside and one outside. One of the TVs was located in a storage container that was converted into a cool lounge area. Overall, this place has a good casual vibe and I will be back to taste some of their other beer choices. read more

After my visit, I hovered between 3 and 4 stars. I'm going ahead and pushing this review to 4 stars. There are a few things that made me push this up to a 4. The first thing to mention is when you arrive. This brewery is tucked away behind a lot of construction at the moment. As you drive down the road, you'll start second-guessing whether the GPS is lying to you. The brewery is warehouse style. You can drink inside around the stills and barrels or they have a large outdoor area with plenty of seating. The outside space is a definite plus and I'm sure it's wonderful during the cooler months. Side note: There is a check-in offer to get a free 4 oz pour. The employee didn't seem familiar with the deal but she obliged when I showed her the app pop-up. I visited a couple of breweries while in Atlanta and I have to say that I love the size options at all of them. Most breweries don't allow flights on the weekend. Anyone that seeks out beer is probably aware of that. In Atlanta, it doesn't matter. At the places I visited, you could order your drink in three or four sizes... 4 oz, 8 oz, 10 oz, or 16 oz. They're also priced accordingly. For anyone that wants to try a bunch of different beers at many breweries... the help on the wallet is appreciated. Since the price was reasonable on 4 oz pours, I tried most of their beers here. Eschaton - Belgian Quad - This was one of the favorites that I tried. It's just over 10%. It was good but I'm not sure if I would need much more than 4 ounces. It didn't taste like a quad to me. White Blackbird - Saison - I liked this beer quite a bit. It wasn't perfect but the pear and pepper combo hit me the right way. It's one of those beers I could session any day of the week. Achlys - Double New England - It seems Wild Heaven might need to work on their New England style. Had I ordered more of this I'm not sure if I could've finished it. Emergency Drinking Beer - This is a standard pilsner and it seems like they might've made their name known with this beer(just check out the can). It's the type of beer you put in the bunker for when things go south. At 4%, it's not the kind of beer you should drink on a normal day. Emergency Drinking Beer - Citrus - EDB with a citrus twist. This definitely helps out the regular version. It was good but it needs just a little more citrus in it. I can't escape that pils taste. I will mention the limey taste I experienced. That lime taste was a perfect combo for the citrus in this. Emergency Drinking Beer - Tropical - There was lots of passionfruit in this one. I think I liked this one the best of the pils variants. Unfortunately, it was still 4%. It's always a tough call to drink anything under 5%. I need some substance in that 5-10% range. Porter - I can't remember the name. It was okay but too roasty. I like a good roast beer but this one wasn't doing it for me. It was likely because it was a hot day. The only issue was the bar area/layout. It was busy on the day I was there. With a combination of a small line and small groups standing around... it was tough to know who was in line for a beer and who was just standing around chatting. I like this brewery. I like the space. Taste is subjective but none of their beers made me say, "Wow." There's enough variety and promise to make me visit again. You should too. read more

Really nice beer. Husband and I were there a couple of weekends ago. Husband ordered the ESB, and I had a pale ale. My husband's ESB looked very pale for an ESB and tasted quite light, it was lighter in color than the pale ale. I asked him if he thought they poured the wrong beer. He went back and asked they had poured the Emergency Drinking Beer instead of the ESB. Once he got the correct beer, he thoroughly enjoyed it. I found my pale ale to be representative of the style. Yes! Another brewery to cross off the list. Wild Heaven is a great little spot in my favorite part of town. It's probably also one of my favorite brewery tastings in Atlanta, to date. It's simple here. Pay for your drinks - either you can buy $12 of drink tickets with no glass, or $15 of drink tickets with a souvenir glass. My friend and I decided to skip on the glass, as we shared that our cupboards were already absolutely cluttered by brewery pint glasses. Wild Heaven is just super chill. I love how simple things are here. It wasn't super busy since it was kind of an on-and-off rainy day, but it had mostly dried up by the time we got there. The bartenders were chill, the Falcons game was on a large TV and NORMAL people were just sitting around. What a nice break from the hipsters and basic people I see all the time in midtown. Maybe it's a Decatur thing, but it seemed pretty multicultural here. And doesn't hurt that the beer is delicious. While I'm not a huge IPA drinker, I did enjoy the Belgians on tap. I've always been a huge fan of the White Blackbird Saison, so I was happy to see this on draft. At the end of the day, I still bought myself a tiny souvenir glass, because I love Wild Heaven and hope to be back soon! read more

We were looking for a brewery near the Decatur area that allowed pets since we were traveling (they are pet friendly). We saw Wild Heaven and decided to give it a shot. This is definitely a hidden gem but has so much potential! As soon as we got there I was impressed with the place! The patio is very impressive! Decorated rustic with wooden handmade chairs... I was in awe! Very open and spacious! We tried Wild Heaven last year "Ode to Mercy" at a local tap room in Augusta, GA and really liked it. You can tell they are super dog friendly. They have water bowls for every size dogs. Also they have a T-Shirt where the proceeds goes to different dog charities. My Mr. bought one! Love it! Okay... now with the brews... we had to get a flight. Flight of 6: -Emergency Drinking Beer: Pilsner -Southern Symphony: Sour Ale -Team Hidi: Wild Ale with honey & mango -Wise Blood: Blood IPA -ATL Easy Ale -Invocation: Belgian Blonde My favorites are the Team Hidi, Wise Blood IPA and the Invocation Belgian Blonde. They do have cans and growlers to go. My Mr. bought the IPA in cans. I highly recommend you check them out! You will not be disappointed. The servers are very friendly and helpful. You can find Wild Heaven Craft Beers at 135b Maple St Decatur, GA 30030 - while this is a Decatur address the location is on the back-side on the border of Avondale Estates and I would consider it more of an Avondale business. Parking is within a small lot next to the brewery or along several streets - there seems to be enough at any time except during festivals. I've now visited Wild Heaven on several occasions and it's become one of my favorite local brands. Wild Heaven is one of the better reasons to visit Decatur, in my opinion, offering up a really fantastic and friendly brewery experience along with some of the best in craft beer that Atlanta, Decatur and Avondale Estates has to offer. I include all three as I'm sure, with the quality of their product, each will claim ownership - they're just that good. On this day I met with friends who share a common UYE managed by Michelle T and Kwame O that focuses on beer and settings for enjoying beer: UYE: Atlanta Breweries #6 (https://www.yelp.com/events/decatur-uye-atlanta-breweries-6-wild-heaven-brewery) And there were about 8 people attending. It also happened to be the day of a local Decatur festival so the place was quite hopping (see what I did there?) with tons of visitors - there was even a shuttle from nearby locations to the brewery as well as some food providers set up in the yard. I managed so run into some other friends at the venue as well. The interior of Wild Heaven occupies an old warehouse with plenty of local history and ambience to match. Counters on a long wall allow you to sample using tokens - I'd recommend that you stick with some of the seasonals or rarities as those kegs empty the fastest. As usual my favorites were the high-grav beers and in particular theEschaton, an amazing Belgian Quad and the Civilization, an English Barleywine but even the old standbyes Invocation, a Belgian Strong Golden and Ode to Mercy, an Imperial Coffee Brown Ale are way above average (I've had both of those before so I only sipped from some other glasses). Once we got going with a brew or two we sat outside and enjoyed the great weather. We all eventually ordered some food from the outside vendors - the BBQ I tried was OK but nothing special. Went to wild heaven tonight to see the women's final four game they advertised in their newsletter. When our group of 6 arrived, every TV was playing the Braves. When I asked the bartender if they planned to play the women's game, he said no but he may be able to get an awkwardly placed TV in the corner working to play it (it was completely black). On one of the biggest nights in women's sports history, WH couldn't give one screen to women. We won't be back anytime soon. read more

Awesome place to grab a beer! Driving up to the brewery, you start to question where you're going as the location is off the beaten path. When entering the brewery, you are instantly relieved to see a spacious environment filled with long wooden tables and an inviting outdoor courtyard. The brewery isn't well insulated as it can get a bit chilly on winter nights but dress warm and you'll be fine! The bar has an array of beer options to choose from that will satisfy any beer palate. I elected to try the Ode to Mercy and the Emergency Drinking Beer. My Fiancé had the Eschatan and the Emergency Citrus (seasonal). The ode to mercy is a smooth coffee nitro brown ale that is flavorful but not overpowering with café flavor. The Emergency Drinking beer is their original brew with a Pilsner taste with hints of lime and salt. The Eschatan had a rich sweet after taste similar to a fig. The Emergency Citrus was okay with a flavor that reminded me of a slightly better version of a bud light lime... My fiance's phone was left right in front of the bartender to take out payment for a tip and accidentally left it there. Came back to get it 60 seconds later and bartender couldnt be bothered, quickly brushing us off. Come to find the phone inside the purse of the family that had been standing behind us at the time. After retrieving the phone, bartender still couldnt be bothered and the entire family, 14 year old boy included, ran us out of the bar screaming obscenities (bear in mind a phone does not walk itself into someone else's purse). With a great variety of brews, cool music playing, and laid back atmosphere, it's a little slice of Heaven on Earth. Inside the building, you can see where all the magic happens, and gets canned. Step up to the bar where the beertenders are all friendly and very knowledgeable. Order a 4oz, 8oz, or a pint. They also have small bites, non-alcoholic options, and stuff for the kiddies. Plus they're very dog friendly so bring your four-legged companions too. Sit inside or chill out on the spacious patio with big wooden thrones (you'll feel like a king sitting in the biggest one). My lady and I decided to have ourselves some 4oz pours so we could try a nice array of "Heaven". We opted for the Emergency Pilsner, Southern Symphony (collab with Cigar City), Team Hidi wild ale (brewed w/ mango and honey), Wise Blood IPA, ATL easy ale, and Invocation Belgian blonde. Each one was very good, especially the Wise Blood and Invocation, our favorites overall. We also split an Ode to Mercy nitrode coffee porter, which was nice, rich, and super smooth. We loved sitting on the patio too. Our dog Billy even enjoyed the atmosphere there. Like it enough to take some with you? They have select bottle and cans for sale so you can do just that. Atmosphere: Every last Sunday of the month they have live music here. I definitely recommend coming and checking that out. They also seem to be the only brewery in Atlanta that has families bringing young kids along with them. On a given weekend visit young kids will definitely have a playmate or two haha. I don't know how often, but there are usually food trucks whenever I visit, a definite plus when you don't have the self control to stop drinking after two beers. Apparently there is also a free yoga class as well, although I haven't been yet. Beer: If you are from out of town, make sure you try their different varieties of Emergency Drinking Beer. Right now they have, Tropical EDB, Citrus EDB, Watermelon EDB, and a standard version of EDB. I'd say these are their most popular beers. If you are into IPAs then try the Wise-Blood or the Altair IPA. They are always making new beers so anytime you visit will be a new adventure. If you have been to any breweries in Atlanta, you know they can be located in some pretty obscure places...Wild Heaven is no different because when you turn down Maple Street, which is a dead-end with train tracks at the end, you immediately assume you made a wrong turn. Lucky for you, you haven't and you come across the brick and wooden sign pointing you down the drive to the glorious building that holds your next local beverage inside! To be exact with the area, you are in Decatur, but borderline Avondale Estates. Parking is plentiful for the most part - There is a lot directly out front of the building and when that fills up, which it does often, you can park along the driveway/entrance path or side of Maple Street. When you pull in you are greeted by a rustic cinder block building with a tin roof. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you walk in it all makes sense where they really invested at, and we thank them for that! Once you enter you are greeted first thing by the site of the bar that lies directly in front of you. If you look the right upon entry you will see where all the magic happens - the tanks and all the massive, fancy and amazing gadgets that turns wheat and barley into what you are there to enjoy! If you then turn around you are greeted by a couple of high top tables, a fridge holding six packs and the entrance to the outdoor area (which is my favorite part, besides the beer of course). The outdoor area/patio/courtyard/beer drinking backyard or whatever you want to call it is comprised of several tables and seating areas for you and your friends to enjoy yourselves at. This is also there storage area to a certain extent, so there are normally stacks of pallets and racks of barrels along with other things needed around the brewery to keep it up and running...but they are never in the way. Sidebar for all my dog folks - it is a dog friendly area! In addition to the seating, they games available to play from the classics such as cornhole to a few board games if getting up and being too active while drinking beer isn't your thing. Lastly, the outdoor area is mostly all uncovered, but draped with lights that really do amazing things at night! However, they do have a converted cargo container that they have outfitted with a few tables and is a solid getaway from the occasional Georgia rain shower. While they do not have a full menu of food, they do offer a variety of small snacks such as chips, meat trays, cheese and dips at the bar. Nothing big, just enough to keep you going. Now, the beer - As do all local breweries, the offerings change with the season. I have been here a few times and will say that I do have a few favorites. I really enjoyed the Belgian Style Saison, White Blackbird and my favorite was and is easily the Wise Blood IPA. Overall, Wild Heaven is doing their thing and doing it quite well. Atlanta is adding breweries at a rapid pace and to stand out you need to be special, and Wild Heaven is just that...special. They got a fan in me for sure! read more

First trip to Wild Heaven was yesterday and the experience was great. $12 gets you six drink tokens and they were pouring six different beers, four of which I'd never tried. Civilization is by far the best barleywine I've ever tasted. The space is pretty cool, the decor is rustic and the bartenders were very helpful, if not friendly, talking to us about how their process differs from most and suggesting next stops on our Decatur beer tour. Lots of room with an uncovered outdoor seating area with picnic tables. They had water to cool you down in between half-pints, but nothing to snack on. I'll remember that the next time I go and bring my own. Aside from the good vibes, why do almost none of Atlanta's breweries get the fact that you need 1. A place to sit... 2. outside the reach of the blazing hot Atlanta summer sun... 3. at least one large fan to cool off your patrons...WH gets points for the fans, but there were only six barstools to cover 40 feet of bar. No high-top tables or wall bars...just open space to stand. I'll definitely be back because this place is fun, but I hope they'll get some outdoor umbrellas and indoor seating. read more

Wild Heaven is a pretty great local brewery. Definitely more chill than some of the more popular breweries in the city, but still busy. The space is very open, with the brew house on one side and the tasting area on the other. I love that there also is an outdoor space to enjoy your beer when the weather is nice. Along with the Wild Heaven staples, there were a few experimental beers on tap, which is always a great treat when visiting a brewery. There are a couple tours given throughout the open hours. The tour guide was one of the brewers, and he was funny and informative. It was pretty short and sweet, but he gave a little history of the brewery and the basics of the brewing process. The one suggestion I have for the owners is to possibly have an outdoor pouring station or an additional person pouring. The lines were really long, so most people were getting a beer, then getting to the back of the line. It would have been much more enjoyable if there were a few taps pouring outside, or if there was another employee pouring to make it move faster. The brewer/tour guide/money taker helped pour when he could, but an extra person at the taps really would've helped. A very chill brewery with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for some outdoor drinking on a nice sunny day! Wild Heaven has a huge selection of beers of all types, sure to satisfy whatever preferences exist in your party. I was particularly a fan of the Emergency Drinking Beers, which they make multiple versions and seasonal editions of. The brewery itself sells some snacks, and there is a food stand in the patio area that sells more substantial stuff which I think it might be rotating. It can get pretty busy here, and they way it's tucked in a corner may make parking a little difficult if the lot is full. But overall, great brewery with an awesome space to hang out and drink beer. read more
