I give the food only 2 star. It needs improvement in atmosphere and food. 1. Pho - broth was decent rate pho 3 out of 5. Better than some hmong places but not vietnamese places. 2. Tofu Vermacilli noodle with sweet sauce- 4.5/5. The flavor in the sauce they put in there along with the sweet sauce was actually amazing and tasty. But the freshness in the shredded lettuce and very little mint was not all there to bring it all together. It would be a perfect dish if the freshness in vegetables were there. 3. Chicken lo mein- 5/5 Best dish out of all dishes we ordered. Fantastic taste and texture of egg noodle, carrot, celery, chicken. Wouldn't change a thing for this one. Awesome. 4. Fried chicken wing- 1/5. this was pretty basic appetizer, which tasted like it sat there for a bit then brought out. It was warm, but not piping hot like it was just out the fryer made to order as it was the first thing out for us. The chopped green onions thrown ontop didnt help or enhance this basic dish. And the pepper sauce wasnt spicey nor very flavorful. Basic hmong chopped herb and pepper kind of bland but you taste the salt of the fish sauce. No wow factor that enhanced the wings. 5. Hot and spicey chicken- 0.5/5. This was the lowest rated dish. It threw me off when I tasted it. Right off the bat you taste lemon grass and it's very very sweet. There was no spice at all. Alot of chicken and alot of sliced onions. It comes with either white rice or fried rice. I picked fried rice but it wasnt fried rice like I expected. It was rice with soy sauce. I was expecting something at least along the lines of Chinese sweet and spicey dish with an actual side of chinese fried rice. 6. Pad thai- 3/5. What I liked out of this dish were the fresh bean sprouts and fresh shredded carrots on the side to balance out the sweet sauce. Server was not as attentive as I'd expect. We didnt have all silverware already on the table after being seated and server didnt ask if we needed more until we got our first few dishes out. Ordered pop and it was forgotten until mid meal and we remembered. Water didnt come around for refills til we were already done eating then server came with pitcher. We came out because we heard good reviews on eat and go through Facebook. This was disappointing. Entire visit rated 2/5 for only 2 dishes that were done well. read more

Came for an early dinner with friends. We ordered chicken pad Thai, chicken green curry and pho. The chicken in the Pad Thai and green curry was old & hard. I and my friend were both unable to eat it. When we brought it up to the staff they explained it may have been damaged by the refrigerator but made no offer to remake it. They did charge us for the food, despite the fact that we didn't touch it. I paid $67 and then went home to cook. The pho was OK but heavy on five spice. I will not return here. read more

Wild Orchid opened two months ago. Not normally an area we visit, but based on participation in sky miles dining and two reviews we gave it a try. Food was excellent. I've been to Wild Orchid a few times now and the Pho is yummy and consistent. There is always plenty of meat - my favorite is the steak and meatball combo - and the broth is not too salty or oily. They also provided plenty of bean sprouts, jalapenos, and mint to add as well. Wild Orchid's strip-mall exterior facade and outdated furniture and decor inside are incredibly underwhelming. At the same time, I think that the great food and friendly wait staff make up for it and are what have allowed the restaurant to succeed. I don't think it would be quite the same otherwise. I personally haven't gotten them, but they have some great lunch special options for a reasonable price and the portions are big. I would recommend this restaurant if you are in the area as I often am for work, but might not be worth it if it a trek. read more

Finally have a Chinese restaurant worth the trip on East Side of St Paul. This is the best from their huge egg rolls ( meal in themselves), cream cheese puffs, fried rice. Not to mention the best home made Almond cookie I ever had in my life!!! Must try, building not the best, little run down but food makes up for it. They make all their own sauces. Used to go here often but since restaurant has changed ownership food is stomach turning and interior is not clean. Glasses of half melted ice for our sodas. My mom and I took a chance on this place and she was smitten even before her first bite of egg roll was done. Atmosphere is quiet, bright and definitely low-end but it's clean and the staff is nice. There's a giant TV in the entry room before the little dining area that's distracting but without it everyone would be able to hear everyone's conversations... Pretty decently busy for a Thursday night? Three groups of diners when we arrived. I ordered the veggie chow mein and my mom had the combo of chicken lo mein with an egg roll and won ton. When our food arrived (quickly!) my mom was handed veggie lo mein and I was handed the chicken combo. She spoke up for me and got my chow mein as we swapped plates. The servers were confused due to a language barrier (and multiple people handling our order I would expect) and I would have gladly eaten the lo mein with no complaints but they were quick to correct the mistake. My chow mein was tasty! The sauce was thick and savory and I could tell that the veggies were fresh and not canned. The rice was overcooked and clumped together like porridge so I feel like I may have gotten the bottom of the barrel. (We were done dining 30min before they close). My meal was 8.50 and I probably have two more meals out of it! My mom liked her lo mein and rice but positively slurped her egg roll down. Needless to say I was a little jelly (just a little...) We have eaten here so many times and it was always great, but recently I read that it is under new ownership and that the food has gone downhill. This could not be more true. We ordered sesame chicken with fried rice and I'm not sure what was worse. The fried rice was literally white rice with some soy sauce. That's it. The sesame chicken was dry and the sauce literally tasted like NOTHING. The eggrolls are different now too. They are huge but taste like (surprise) nothing. We spent almost $40 on takeout for two people and threw over half of it away. This used to be our go-to place but now we won't ever be back :( Also, we called our order in prior and they said it would be ready in 15-20 min. We got there 15 min later and they said the food was almost finished.......... then they went in the back and began to cook it. LOL read more

Outstanding food in an unlikely location. Yes from the outside it looks like a dumpy strip mall dive, caught between a greasy pizza joint and a greasy hamburger joint (AKA McDonald's). But don't let the location fool you-- this is an excellent Asian restaurant with fantastic fresh food. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, all of which were good, especially the spring rolls and egg rolls. Our youngest son, who normally detests vegetables, gobbled down 3 of the spring rolls and asked for more. Now THAT's a five-star review. On to the Pho, which was delicious. They have a number of different choices, and as I was getting confused, the waiter helped steer me in a good direction. The Pho was excellent, it tasted very fresh. The lunch special is a great deal! I came here on a lunch date with my mother before going to get mani/pedis. This restaurant is in an older strip of shops, so don't let the outside view turn you away. It was a little hard to find parking because the lot is very small, but we were there during prime lunch time (a Friday around 12). We didn't have to wait to be seated and the service was very friendly and accommodating. The manager even stopped by our table to ask how things were going. We decided to share the Kung Pao Chicken, and Green Curried Chicken combos. They came with your choice of fried or white rice and an egg roll. The egg rolls were delivered to our table before the rest of the food, steaming hot. I am not exaggerating when I say that this was the best egg roll I've EVER tasted in my entire life. It was crunchy and crispy and entirely satisfying, especially when dipped in the ponzu sauce served on the side. A really nice thing that Wild Orchid does is they ask you which level of spice you'd like your meal to have based on a 1-5 scale. We ordered ours a 4 and it was executed perfectly. The chicken wasn't fatty or of poor quality at all. And the vegetables were definitely fresh and slathered in sauce. Best part: Each of our meals were only 7.50!!! After reading other reviews, I thought this place would be solid. The food I will say was good. The service was lacking. Environment was as dull and drab as it gets. Food: Fried rice had good flavor, but tasted like it was made with old grease. The cream cheese wontons were huge. The General Tsos Chicken was crunchy and flavorful. Soda was from cans and I had to buy two. Could be worse. Service: Came out with water and didn't ask what I would actually like to drink. First brought out entree and took 10 minutes to get the rice. I didn't want to eat separate so my entree sat getting cold while I waited. Then the wontons came out even later. At one point, a lady came out to take a plate off our table. We said thank you and she didn't acknowledge us one bit. I got the feeling that she owned the place. Environment: White walls, outdated furniture, outdated art, stained ceiling tiles. Not sure why it is such a big deal to take them outside to spray paint them. Price: 10 bucks per meal, which would be fine at Perkins or Applebee's, but this place doesn't give a crap about environment, so the price should be cheaper since they aren't reinvesting. For 3 of us, we paid 43 bucks plus tip. Not what I really want to spend at a rundown Chinese restaurant. We won't be back until they put a little TLC back into this place. read more

I do takeout of their special fried rice several times a month. Today I ordered the same item. it was not the same. I was informed when I paid there was a change in ownership in the last few days. The tails were not taken off the shrimp, 1/8 of the container was huge pieces of raw white onion. Spice level 4 was bland and the chicken was dry. I had the pork bun noodle lunch special. It was good and affordable price so I will be back for lunch since it's less than a mile from 3M. The food was okay. It certainly was not the best but it also was not the worst. Our server was nice however when we first walked in, we were greeted with puzzled faces. My friends and I didn't know how to receive the welcome and it seemed as if we had offended them by walking in. I had to do a double take to ensure that it was not closing time. Good customer service. Our waitress was really friendly. Me and my boyfriend specifically came here to try out their noodles. And i tell you.. we are a huge fan of noodles, especially pho!
