I am a Fairfield University student and this is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Fairfield! It is a small restaurant but it has a hip atmosphere. I usually go with a big group of friends and we have a lot of fun. The food is averagely priced for Chinese food and they have a good selection of sushi. My favorite thing to order is their orange chicken which is served over a bed of Asian crunchy noodles-very tasty! Also a good spot for a date because of the hip and cozy atmosphere. Make sure to get there early on the weekends because there is usually a line. read more

I'm a regular for take out. Not a big sushi lover, but their Chinese food is great. Always get the order right, friendly staff, order always ready by time I arrive from the train. Wild rice never disappoints me. I love the sushi as well as the pan Asian kitchen offerings. The prices are very good too and the decor of the place is nice for a relaxed delicious meal. The only thing to be aware of is the noise level can be a little high as it is always busy and there are many parties of 4 or more. Just tried Wild Rice for the first time today with my boyfriend, and it was absolutely amazing. Great sushi, good prices, friendly service, clean bathrooms. I love the location, right at downtown Fairfield. Great for lunch! Had the sushi lunch special.. 8$ for 2 rolls + a soup OR salad. The sushi was to die for, light and delicious. Wasn't overbearing with white rice. The fish tasted fresh. I would recommend the yellowtail roll! The 5 spiced calamari appetizer was amazing! Overall great experience, best sushi I had in awhile. We came here as a group of 7, and called a few minutes ahead for a table. When we got there we were seated right away, and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even had the special modified chopsticks for the kids. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and entrees, drinks, and the prices were reasonable. Not cheap, but fair. Everything we ordered was good and tasted fresh and not greasy. We came back the next day for lunch and they had saved a book that my kids left behind the night before. Favorites were the thai fried rice, chicken satay, Mee Goreng, and pad thai. My brother had the Beef pho and really liked that as well. Portions were pretty generous also. read more

While I still like this place and the food, I was disappointed today. I called in my order, just one tuna appetizer. I was told 10 minutes, so I arrived at that time. Waited 10 minutes more. Then I inquired about whether my food would be ready soon, the hostess told me my order was behind the table that was there first. If this was the case, I should've been told about the wait time over the phone. It took a total of 28 minutes for one tuna tartare appetizer. It was extremely disappointing to be dismissed so strongly with no apology when I was just going off of the timeframe that the same person had told me my food would take over the phone. read more

I had a terrible experience here. I came with my friend for lunch We both ordered the maki lunch special. This includes a salad or soup, and two rolls. It took almost 45 minutes for our rolls to come out. We kept trying to get the attention of our waiter but he seemed to be ignoring us. Once we finally got our rolls, the sushi didn't look presentable. It looked gray and rolls weren't even sealed properly. They had a very fishy after taste( like the fish was not fresh) and my second bite of yellowtail roll had a very large dime sized bone which stabbed me in the tongue. I immediately spat it out and no longer wanted any more sushi. I had only eaten two rolls but my appetite was lost. I told our waiter, and he said they could make another one but why would I want another one if they can't even make it correct the first time? There would most likely be a larger bone in the next one. We expected to get it comped , but no. They still charged me for one roll. Even though I did not eat it. I paid my part and left. No tip. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I was asked to meet there by friends. Was not expecting much. Thought just a chinese place. Boy was I wrong! I really enjoyed this place. The decor, food and prices were great as well as good portions. I'm a big guy and can eat and I was not disappointed. There were 8 of us. My dinner was last & late by about 3 to 5 minutes. I cannot believe a person who claimed to be a waitress from here tried responding to my review saying that I shouldn't bring children into this establishment because it isn't meant for children and tried to say I should go to a take out place. WTH! This is no fancy place by any means and if you have a high chair and booster (despite them being filthy and broken) it means you allow kids. Obviously she is not a mother or know anything about service. I have extremely well-behaved kids and it does NOT make the fact that she was rude and grumpy and served hot soup over my kid's head and left it right in front of him at the table acceptable. It also doesn't explain the sticky wobbly filthy tables. If you wanted to be a rude person because your boss wasn't around (which was obvious from the service) you should have just said there were no child seating amenities. read more

Well, my family is straight off the boat Chinese so we've been to a LOT of Asian food restaurants in the tri-state area. I came here with a friend and was not impressed. Honestly, GO TO SWEET BASIL. The service is the same (Sweet Basil is even a little better), but Wild Rice is way too expensive, especially with the quality of food. I got the The Pad Thai which was JUST noodles, sprinkled with stuff on top. This huge mound of noodles and barely any other ingredients. Also, $10 a drink is bull crap. Not impressed. read more

Awesome food, I've had the sesame chicken, chow fun, pad Thai, and the sushi. It's fresh and quick. My only concern is that they cannot manage reservations. Despite the TERRIBLE SERVICE This was a favorite spot of mine for a while but after a friend bit down on something hard in her tuna roll which after dissection turned out to look like a finger nail (they claimed a fish bone- but we aren't convinced) we are tainted for life. My 1st visit to Wild Rice in Fairfield the week of July 15 th 2011 was not a pleasant expierence and will be my last. We sat outside about 7 PM and were served wine immediately and placed our order for salad and Suhi. The salad was quickly served but we waited over an hour for the Sushi. We repeadedly asked our waiter and he said it will be ready shortly. After over an hour he finally told us they were out of RICE!!!! So we waited and asked for a complimentary glass of wine and they said no. At that point we should have left. Poor service and rude waiters. Would not go there again. read more

Although the food was perfectly fine, I am compelled to report that the rushed service and obvious push to turn the table was so offputting that we will not be back to dine in (take-out is still an option). If you are looking to relax and enjoy your meal, for which you are paying handsomely I might add, choose to go elsewhere. A scant 2 or 3 minutes after we were seated we were asked for our order. We had not even had time to open the menus. We asked for a few moments and while we reviewed the menu the server hovered nearby. Unsettling. We ordered, and our hot appetizers arrived quickly, but we were barely half-way through when our meals arrived--forcing us to rush through our appetizers so that we could eat our main dishes while they were still hot. As each of our party finished eating, his/her plate was cleared away adding to the rushed feeling. Our check had barely hit the table when the server came over to collect payment--we hadn't even had time to review the bill. The last straw was as we were standing to leave and the same server started bussing our table WHILE WE WERE STILL STANDING THERE! From start to finish we spent less than an hour and over $100. Ridiculous. We went down the street to Starbuck's so that we could relax and enjoy each others' company. I agree with reviewer Joyce C--go to Sweet Basil or try Wafu (recently opened in Westport near Home Goods). Delicious food and welcoming service in both of those places. read more

I came here for dinner and right as I was seated they asked for my drink and food order and they gave me two minutes which is clearly not enough time. My friend wanted water so asked the waiter and he never brought it so, she asked again and he still never brought it so, she had to ask a different waiter to get it. We ordered the chicken and broccoli and it took forever to come out and the chicken was barely cooked! I'm never going to go back again because the service was very bad. read more
