This place is great for dates. It's on the noisier side at night so you'll have a lot to talk about and the service is relatively quick. The food is also consistently good. They have great sushi and all the non-sushi eaters have a huge selection to choose from. Try their scorpion bowl sometime. It's a cocktail for two with flaming alcohol in the center of the bowl. Just watch your eyebrows... I'd also recommend splitting their calamari salad. They never overcook the calamari and it's served hot over a bed of mixed greens grilled scallions and whole basil leaves. It's dressed with a delicious tangy dressing. We work in Fairfield so usually only come here for lunch. Their lunch special is great and we love their sushi. Always fresh and delicious. Even their salads look fresh with crisp lettuce and vibrant dressing. During the nice weather months, sitting outside is a great treat. We've also come for dinner when it's a bit noisy, but usually the crowd is a good sign. The inside decor is great with a modern atmosphere and it's fun to sit at the sushi bar if ordering sushi. But if you're going for dinner I might suggest going early or making a reservation or you could be in for a long wait. I'm someone who loves a good General Tso chicken dish and in Fairfield, Sweet Basil makes the best. The chicken is moist and the sauce is delicious. The presentation is also impressive. They have a great sushi bar and their Sashimi 4 Me is actually a work of art. Great place to take your friends. They have a rum drink for two that costs $16. Great value considering I had a good buzz going when we got to the bottom of it. The pricing is on the high side but I still come back time after time and my friends are never disappointed. First trip as I just moved from Stamford and started exploring the sushi market in Westport in Fairfield. I did not find the Sushi fresh at all. You can usually tell a quality sushi place just by the color of the tuna. At higher quality places it has a vibrant red color. I always play it safe the first time I try a new sushi place and order a spicy tuna roll and some tuna and salmon sushi. The spicy tuna roll had a fishy after taste that even the spicy mayo could not mask and I ended up not even trying the tuna sushi I ordered because I knew it was not good quality. The salmon was not bad but not good by any means. My son has the Sesame chicken which was way to sweet and the chicken was on the dry side. Outside of Tengda this is the only place I have tried so far but Kazu is on a different level compared to this. read more

It might sound silly but my favorite thing here is brown rice, yes the rice. It's unlike any other in the area, very dark with great texture and flavor. I have my rolls made with it and it makes them so much more delicious. If you had sushi with brown rice before you know how sometimes bad mushy rice can ruin the experience. Not here. If you haven't tried it before, do yourself a favor and give it a shot, even if you're not a brown rice person. In warm weather you can sit outside which is very nice. The rice was hard, the orange beef was fried beef that looked like it had been frozen a few times and the enormous amount of sugary goo poured over it was inedible. The sliced pork was a strange shade of grey and my dog would not eat it. The fried dumplings were ok. A very talented sushi chef quickly creates creative presentations of deliciously fresh fish. We came with the 4 kids and their grandparents and everyone was happy. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the suggested Japanese soda with the marble in the bottle. So much so that they took the empty bottle home. My kids ate the sushi, they're big fans. If your kids are not, it's probably best to leave them at home since there doesn't seem to be a lot of other options for picky kids. An attempt to keep all Asian food categories on the menu meant that things like General Tso shared a table with Pad Thai. I liked the creativity the was used for the decor. Small stacked pine boards burned with a blowtorch to create a unique antiqued look. Strips of laminate countertop weaved into a basket pattern over copper pipes. Someone went to Home depot and tried to create a higher end look on the cheap. It worked okay - the fact that I recognized the cheapness of it shouldnt matter since most people won't. Back in Oct I placed an order for three meals from Wild Rice. One of the meals was wrong. I called and was told the next time I place an order I would not be charged for one of the dinners. The man took down my information. I placed an order yesterday and explained to the woman that one of my dinners was to be free. I gave her my phone number so she could look this up. My son picked up the dinners and sure enough I was charged for all three dinners with a credit of $2 taken off my bill for rice. I called and explained that my order in Oct wasn't missing rice, the order was wrong. The man said he would give me my money back. I went there this morning and as soon as I walked in an employee walked over to me and noticed the receipts in my hand. I started to say why I was there, but he didn't want to hear about it. He opened the register and handed me the money. I tried in a calm manner to explain what had happened. He said, "When the girl checked the computer it said missing rice." I don't know why it would say missing rice because that is not what I told her. I started to talk and he said, "I don't want to argue, here's the money. I don't want to talk about it. Take the money and go." With that he turned and walked away. He was extremely rude. I was a long time customer and this is how I get treated. He gave me no chance to explain. He took the role of a victim when I was the victim. This wasn't the first time I've had problems with take-out orders, but it's the last as I will NEVER patronize this restaurant again. My husband and I have passed Wild Rice many times in the past, but never went there. We finally did last week, and were very pleased. The food was excellent and the staff courteous and helpful. The restaurant was spotless. My only complaint is that they seated us at a table for two in the aisle opposite the sushi bar, and waiters had to pass us constantly, sometime two going in opposite directions.. The aisle is very narrow, and it was very annoying. If not for that, I would have rated it a 5. I also wish they had delivery service, but, unfortunately, they don't. Very good quality sushi, good portions as well (as in the amount of sashimi put into the basic rolls.) I have to strongly reccomend the "pan fried noodles." Although often not on the menu, they'll make it if you ask, and god damn is it good. Met a girlfriend for a weeknight dinner. Standard sushi fare. I had 2 rolls and a cup of miso. The rolls were sizeable and they were just as good as any I've ever had. I'm kind of a basic sushi flavor kinda gal, so it's hard to mess up tuna-avocado and sweet potato tempura. The staff was a little hot on the trigger with the check which was frustrating- they came back 4 or 5 times to get the check while my girlfriend and I were still catching up. It was fine, but the restaurant was not that full so I wish they would've paid a little more attention to whether or not we had put the cards in. read more

I would give them a four because I truly do love the food but the employees are just too rude to even imagine. Several times I've had take out and the meal is always messed up. Today I ordered tofu and veggies and asked for extra broccoli and then asked for shrimp and mango sauce and asked if there was broccoli in it and they said yes. When I got home, predictably, neither had broccoli. I called and actually got into a confrontation with the man who answered the phone. He said the shrimp and mango sauce would taste terrible with broccoli and so I said when I asked for it why didn't you just say NO! Then he said for the tofu that broccoli doesn't always come in it. I said I specifically asked for it and he said they would have charged extra and I said I didn't care, I was not given that option. He just said Oh next time we'll put broccoli in your meal. Don't get me wrong the food here is great when you're eating it; I don't have any complaints there. But when you leave is when the problems arise. My friends and I have come here on more than one occasion, and the first time some of us felt a little gross after and one of us was throwing up, but we didn't think too much of it. Went there with my husband the other day for dinner. I didn't expect much of this place and so it was- nothing special but ok enough to go back for a casual dinner. It was very busy so I guess people like it. The food was just ok though. We got some appetizers that were decent, but again nothing special. For dinner my husband got Drunken man Noodle that was pretty good, I got sushi (BIG mistake!!). Do not get sushi there!!! While the fish was relatively fresh (sashimi) the rolls looked terrible, I tried one and it was beyond tasteless. So if I were to go back I'd only order noodles or something of that sort. read more
