Please excuse the lack of photos in this review! The girls and I met for happy hour on a Wednesday, and picked Wild River because their menu seemed to have a little bit of everything! I arrived about 10 minutes to 4:00, and was sat with water service and happy hour menu that I was able to peruse until the girls arrived. The main dining room was closed for a private event, but the River room was where all other customers were sat. It doesn't have quite the same ambiance as the main room, but is still nice nonetheless. Two of us had the house Pinot Grigio, and one had a margarita. I thought for the prices ($4 and $6), that the portions were above what I would have expected for happy hour (a pleasant surprise). For shareable apps, we chose the bruschetta, crab cakes, Thai wings, shrimp and grits, and the blackened blue (steak/polenta) yes, we were hungry! I only got photos of the shrimp/grits and blackened/blue, because we were having such a great time that I completely forgot to take pics. My favorite was the crab/salmon cakes (comes with 3, so perfect portions for us). The tomato caprese bruschetta was also delicious! The Thai wings were also very tasty (slightly sweet/slightly spicy). The shrimp and grits had a wonderful garlic flavor (texture wasn't my favorite, but I think it's just the dish and not the way it was prepared). I could have skipped the blackened blue. For one of the pricier items on the menu, I didn't think it was really worth it. We stayed almost three hours having an absolute blast, and will definitely be back soon! read more

This is a great restaurant for a dinner program as the separate dining room provides a quiet, private space to hear the speaker, enjoy one's colleagues and really enjoy a delicious dinner. The welcoming staff were pleasant and professional. The service was great. The wait staff was professional, proficient and personable. The menu had a terrific variety of choices for the entree. There were two choices of salad and dessert. The Wild River salad is always fresh and delicious! The Roast Prime Rib of beef was tender, delicious and plentiful! My neighbor had the double cut pork chop which also looked delicious and plentiful! The cheesecake was fresh and creamy with blueberry sauce and fresh blueberries. We had matinee tickets to the Pioneer and made brunch reservations for nine of us before the show. We had a wonderful experience! We arrived for our 11a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server was sweet, attentive, and accommodating. Mimosas were on our minds and service was swift as our glasses were filled with Prosecco while side glasses of cranberry and orange juice complemented the pours. The menu was filled with seasonal salads and contemporary fare. Their truffle fries go with EVERYTHING! Every experience and meal at Wild River has been wonderful. This one was next level! In a grand old Riverside Hotel building on the banks of the mighty Truckee sits a 5 star experience to behold! We ordered drinks, beet salad and house special salad. We went there for a work dinner, while we were at a conference. The recommendation came from a local, who loves the place, and we were happy to see that it didn't disappoint. Seasonal cocktails were fun and inspired. The food selections were super fresh and had something for everyone in our group. Portion sizes were large, but not out of control. I decided to hit up the Wild River Grille for happy hour today with a friend. Interestingly enough, they don't automatically give you a happy hour menu anymore, you have to ask for it. It's like a secret club when you say the password and they let you in. Just ask for the happy hour menu from 4 to 6 on weekdays. :) We sat outside, and our table was in the shade, which was nice given how hot it was. They had a singer on the patio who is absolutely lovely. It was just the summer vibe we were looking for I had the house salad, beef and blue cheese with risotto and honey wings. I came to Wild River Grille about six months ago. However, I still wanted to give a great review about this place. Wild River Grille has such a spectacular outdoor ambiance. It was beautiful. I loved how they offered live entertainment as well. For the appetizer, I ordered the sausage trio that came with grain mustard, dijon mustard, pickled garnishes, grilled bread. So delicious! For the entree, I had the Ribeye Steak topped with Shrimp + Mushrooms and Green-beans. Everything was flavorful on the plate. My wife and I were staying the night at the nearby El Dorado but didn't want to eat in the casino. A short 10 minute walk south to the river, we were promptly seated outside with no advance reservation made a little after 5pm. Later in the evening we saw several parties waiting to be seated so plan accordingly. Apart from being on the windy side, the outdoor tables were fine. They provided numerous umbrellas for shade which they were taking down as the sun was setting. Despite being on a public walkway no one bothered us. My wife ordered their short braised ribs as suggested by the server while I got the 12oz sirloin medium rare. We ordered a bottle of petite sirah to go along with it. Their wine list had numerous familiar wines to me across a wide range of prices. The ribs were fall off the bone type but my wife was thrown a bit by the ginger in the sauce but not in a bad way. The mashed potatoes were nice and creamy. My steak was well prepared to my liking. I was caught off guard by the gravy on it but it was fine. Not familiar with the duck fat potatoes, I found I liked them. Cut into cubes, they were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Their were a couple of asparagus spears thrown in for good measure. If you want bread, you need to ask but it is complimentary. Service was great the entire evening. All around disappointing!! Last time we eat here. Arrived to sit on patio with almost an empty full patio. We get sat and after drinks and ordering I asked to be moved as the sun was so blazing hot I just wanted to go to table next to us to get in shade, mind you it is almost 100 degrees out. The waitress said it was another section so we were out of luck to move to any of the handful of shady open tables. Not super happy, but sucked it up. Then we got food and all was mediocre, Applebees equivalent food. All well, it happens. Get our bill, over 100 for two sandwiches, one appetizer and two non-alcoholic drinks. Wow. All well, again, lessons learned. Then we left trying to gather all our things and left our super expensive bag of to go food on the table. No one of course cared to tap us on the shoulder that we left our items when bussing our table as we walked away. Realize we left the food and 10 minutes later walk back to grab and they threw it out. What?!? After all that. It was the straw that broke the camels back and the manager used his passive aggressive approach to tell us it was our fault and we had to eat the loss. Wow. DONT EAT here!! I can tell why the staff don't care after my husband met the manager. Starts with leadership to inspire a team to provide good customer service and make it worth while to eat at overly priced American grills trying to use inflation as a reason for charging causal fine dining prices. 9/04/21 Dinner After watching the amazing Shang-Chi movie, we headed to Wild River Grille for dinner and drinks. We skipped on appetizers since we had already loaded up on popcorn at the movie. My husband got the Elk Medallions and I got the Chicken Picata with sauce on the side, since I confirmed with our server that the lemon caper buerre blanc did have cream in it. Both dishes came out fast and were fresh and tasty. I loved the duck fat potatoes but the Brussel sprouts could have have been better. Unfortunately, after eating a giant butter flavored oil drenched tub of popcorn, my dinner was not sitting well and we opted skipping dessert and headed back to our hotel. Definitely need to come back again to Wild River Grill and skip on the popcorn next time. read more

Our neighbors gave us a gift certificate here. We have never been to this restaurant before and were excited to try it. We went on a Sat during lunch. Our server was good. That is why the two stars. The Ambiance was good but the table we sat at was not good, very wobbly. We ended up changing to the table right next to where we were sat, which was dirty with clean napkin rolls with utensils. I had wet wipes in my purse and wiped the table down with those. Now the food... I mean come on. Not sure if it was what we ordered but we could get the same food at a chain restaurant for cheaper. My husband had bourbon filet cheesesteak sandwich and I had a Cobb salad. We did order the pork belly appetizer which was fantastic! But that cheesesteak sandwich looked straight out of the freezer or what you can get at a cheap chain restaurant. It tasted like it also. Never order the cheesesteak or Cobb salad! I took a picture after I had eaten the salad and wished I took it before so you can see what it looks like. Definitely not worth $20! The dressing looked old and tasted nasty. I ended up eating a salad with no dressing, which I guess in turn means no extra calories. The cherry tomatoes were old and gross looking. Ended up picking them off, did not trust eating them. During COVID, the hubby, my daughter, and I decided to try Wild River Grill, and we we're sure happy we did. It was pretty low-key, not too busy, so we were sat right away. The outdoor setting was open, welcoming and available but we sat inside across from the bar. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They have a full bar and a great selection of wine to choose from. We tried a couple of things like the Wild River salad served with fresh greens, apple, dried cranberry, spiced pecan, marinated red onion, gorgonzola, honey and white balsamic dressing. It was delicious! The flavor combination was perfect, and everything was crisp and fresh. It did not disappoint. I could go for one right now! Next, we tried the French onion soup, which is served with crostini, swiss, parmesan cheeses. It tasted amazing with the chill of the cold air outside. It takes me back to my youth when my mom would cook French onion soup on a cold winter day. For our meals, my husband ordered the WILD MUSHROOM RAVIOLI served with hand foraged sierra mushroom, crispy sage, garlic and shallot cream sauce, shaved parmesan cheese, garlic bread. The taste was exploding with flavor, and the textures were smooth a creamy. We all agreed that WRG's mushroom ravioli was better than a very high-end Italian restaurant on The ROW. It was that good! The mushroom flavor with the creamy sauce was perfection. However, it had a hefty price of $28 for raviolis. I, on the other hand, tried the MAHI MAHI served with honey mandarin creme, toasted macadamia nuts, parmesan risotto cake, summer squash medley. The flavors were excellent; the MAHI MAHI had a nice crunch from the crust from the macadamia nuts. However, I felt the fish was a bit dry. The Parmesan risotto was okay, not excellent, though. The summer squash medley was fresh and had a nice texture to them. I would order it again in hopes that the fish would be a tad more juicer. The flavors merged well together. My daughter ordered the French onion soup and enjoyed hers as well. She ended up eating several of my husbands mushroom raviolis. She really enjoyed those. We will return and possibly sit out on their spacious patio, which is perfect for Spring, Fall, and cooler days in the summer. We had a great experience and will be back soon. read more

Favorite happy hour in town! M-F 4-6pm. I love that they do HH on a Friday to celebrate the end of the week. You can always count on good food and service here. My favs are the crab and salmon cakes, Brussels sprouts and California reaper chicken wings. The wings are crispy and fall off the bone. The Carolina reaper sauce is not too spicy. It's similar to a Buffalo sauce with a nice balance of truffle oil. The Brussels are always perfectly crispy and are full of bites of pork belly and roasted garlic cloves. read more

Very pleasant and attentive people. We had 12 in our party so a pretty good menu sampling. The menu looked fantastic but really, the food was just ok. Pork belly appetizers were yum! But the Brussels sprouts were over-charred and bruschetta a little soggy. The crab stuffed halibut was disappointing. The crab stuffing didn't have much flavor. This was the most expensive item on the menu by the way. The trout was a pink trout which would be fine I guess but was dry and bland. The elk medallions were cooked nicely but I think you need a taste for them. Texture is kind of smushy. Short ribs, ribeye, and New York steak were all ok but again, just kind of bland. This is a great blend of elevated food in a classy but casual atmosphere. The appetizers are portioned well and a good variety of them. We didn't order soup or salad this time but we have in the past. Each of our lunches were cooked and seasoned very well. A Creme Brule for dessert was delicious.
