The food and service was great. The ambiance was nice. I would take my family there again.

We showed up smack in the middle of the Saturday lunch rush with four people and no reservation, so expectations for getting seated quickly were not exactly high. It was BUSY, although a lot of the chaos seemed to be concentrated around the line to check in. The staff up front seemed a little flustered, but honestly, it also had the distinct vibe of a place where they had probably dealt with approximately 47 people who thought they were the most important customer of the day. Despite all of that, we were seated outside within about 20 minutes. Our waiter was fantastic and went out of his way to make sure we had a table in the shade and adjusted the shade for my mother in law. Food came out surprisingly quickly too. I had the apple walnut salad, which was fresh and delicious, and someone else in our group had an eggs Benedict that was equally great. I've also stopped in before for coffee, and their lattes are the kind that briefly make me feel like I'm in a higher tax bracket. But the outdoor atmosphere might be my favorite part. The patio is surrounded by mature foliage and beautiful plants, so even when the restaurant is packed and next to a busy intersection, it still feels like you're tucked away somewhere. There's a reason this place stays busy. It's a great spot for basically any age, the food is consistently good, and the whole setting just feels a little special. Definitely worth the Saturday chaos. Pro Tip: Park in the shopping center across the street and walk over. They have limited parking and it is a tight fit. read more

We heard about The Stone House Cafe through the grapevine and decided to give it a try with a friend. After looking through the Yelp photos and seeing the reviews of the outdoor patio, we thought it would be a great place for Sunday breakfast. We made a reservation just to make sure we could get in. When we arrived, we were surprised by just how large the outdoor area was and how much seating they had. We were seated right away. The patio is beautiful, with tons of greenery, a relaxed atmosphere, and music playing in the background. Yes, you can hear some street traffic, but honestly, with the way they have the patio set up, you quickly stop noticing it. Our waitress was very friendly and got our coffees out right away. Even the regular black drip coffee was good! She took our order shortly after, and considering how many people were seated outside, our food came out relatively quickly. I never made it inside to see how busy it was in there, but the patio was packed. Clearly, the kitchen has it down because they were moving a lot of food without making us feel like we were waiting forever. I had the chicken fried steak and eggs, and I would order it again in a heartbeat. The chicken fried steak and gravy were excellent, the hash browns were good, and surprisingly, one of the stars of the plate was the toast--and I'm not even a big toast person! It tasted incredibly fresh, like the bread had been made that morning. The other two dishes at our table were the Eggs Benedict and the Truckee Meadows omelette. I think the fact that both plates were completely cleared says everything you need to know! By the end of breakfast, we had already decided that The Stone House Cafe is our new favorite breakfast spot. We live south of town, so it's definitely not right around the corner for us, but the food, patio, and atmosphere are good enough that we'll happily make the drive back. I've been coming here for years for breakfast and can't believe I haven't left a review! Seems like a great time to add my thoughts now that the restaurant is under new ownership. The new owner went table to table during our recent visit, introducing himself and chatting with guests. He was very kind and made us feel welcome and appreciated! The food hasn't changed and is still outstanding. I love the Truckee Meadows Egg Scrambler - it's the perfect breakfast with the side of potatoes. My husband's go to is the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. We also love to split a dessert and most recently got the Banana Rum French Toast. Highly recommend! The ambiance when sitting outside can't be beat - the garden is beautiful and charming. This is a great option during the summer months. It's not quite as nice to sit inside because of the noise level, but overall the experience is still pleasant. The staff are always very friendly and attentive. We love coming here! read more

The food was great, but the service was so slow and forgetful. I was more than halfway through my meal before I got the mayonnaise. I asked for four times. Since we first discovered this neighborhood spot, we've only had good things to say. As locals back then, we made this café one of our go-to places to eat. We occasionally tried their specials, but mostly stuck with our "usual" favorites. I don't have photos to share, but I can tell you the portions were generous, and the service was excellent, especially Gabe, who mostly made sure our favorite seat was available: a booth next to the fireplace, which made us feel right at home. Although our initial visit was not the most comfortable, being seated near the entrance and across from the bar left us unsure about the overall dining experience. Having driven by this restaurant more times than I can count, I was expecting a cute cottage-style cafe with some outdoor seating. I was blown away by the stunning outdoor oasis they've created, which makes you feel like you're in a private botanical garden (and not the corner of a busy intersection!). Everything about their outdoor area is a true *chef's kiss* and we haven't even gotten to the food yet. I love a seafood sandwich, and was excited to try their San Diego sandwich, which had seared ahi tuna and crab salad- a winning combination. I'd never had seared ahi tuna on a sandwich, and it might be my new favorite- it was so hearty and flavorful without being heavy. You've got to eat it fast, as the juices will pool and get soaked up by the ciabatta, but that was no problem for me as I practically inhaled it. The array of fresh fruit was all perfectly ripe and balanced the meal nicely. My partner ordered the Lamb Burger, a meal he loves but is weary of ordering at some places. There were no regrets here, he said it was well cooked and paired great with the goat cheese and tzatziki sauce. We will have to come back soon to work our way through their small plates menu which definitely piqued our interest and appetite! read more

Absolutely phenomenal and a must visit. It is the cutest little corner cottage turned restaurant, and they have one of the most beautiful outdoor dining areas in town. Sometimes a reservation is needed so be sure to double check on that when you plan to visit. We loved our server who was very well versed in the specials and other items from the menu that they recommended to us from memory. They were so kind, helpful, and dedicated to providing great service. I started with a drip coffee with oatmilk which was perfect. I'd gladly ask for refills and a cup to go. For breakfast i chose the chicken fried steak with veggie hash and scrambled eggs. When the plate came out it was made with eggs over medium, and hash browns. I wasn't even upset because it was all piping hot, flavorful, and perfectly cooked! But when our server came to check on us they immediately realized I had the wrong things and went to grab a side plate with the veggie hash and the scrambled eggs. That was so sweet and showed how much they truly care about customers receiving the correct items they order. I was so happy that I got to try the veggie hash (black beans, tomatoes, corn, and zucchini with butter) it easily became my new favorite obsession. I could enjoy a whole bowl of that and not be dissatisfied. And the scrambled eggs were sooooo fluffy! Everything was incredible and I can't wait to come back and have the exact same thing again very soon, but also try some new things. I had a bad experience years ago with the previous lady who owned it. So I just wanted to send thanks to the new owners, without you I wasn't sure that I would have been back. Another awesome breakfast! My husband and I popped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast. We didn't have reservations and knew there was a strong chance they might not be able to take us. We totally lucked out. They were able to seat us right away! I had the pulled pork omelette. It was delicious. The pork was tender and flavorful. The green sauce was delicious too. As were the potatoes. While we were eating, Cyrina (the owner) dropped by our table to say hi. As always, she was charming and funny! We stopped by The Stone House Cafe for lunch before our drive to Tahoe. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and were seated immediately. First, the patio area is absolutely gorgeous! I wish I would've taken more pictures of it. Our group had plenty of space between us and our neighboring tables. We had a large umbrella directly over our table and another umbrella right next to us for additional shade. Our server was kind, friendly, and attentive. He checked on us frequently and accommodated our requests. One member of our group needed a little more time to decide what she wanted and he remembered to check back in with her a few minutes later. The food itself was delicious. We ordered a variety of dishes including the steak salad, ahi tuna sandwich, coconut salmon, cheeseburger, etc. Everyone in our group of seven enjoyed their meal. We didn't have any pets with us, but FYI that pets are not allowed; service animals only. We got seated immediately even though we didn't have a reservation. Host was great. The service was great, Brenda was very pleasant. All the servers have a smile on their face, which brings joy. The food was good, I had the Belgian Waffle, it was indeed golden brown and delicious. My father-in-law had the Chorizo Pizza, he did mention that it was good but, there was very little chorizo. Brother-in-law had the Chorizo eggs Benedict and it was great, good portion as well. The ambiance is nice, music is soft enough to speak and chat to each other without having to raise our voices. The restrooms are single stalls. So when it is really busy there would be a line. But, the restrooms are very clean, no foul odor. Definitely recommend coming here. Support small business. read more

I really want to love Stone House, but each time I go I am sadly unimpressed. Their breakfast is good, but their lunch and dinner consistently misses for me. As a vegetarian, there aren't many options. I was really hoping that, with the new ownership, this would change. It unfortunately has not. My friend was interested in the veggie burger, and asked our server what the patty was made out of. Our server was lovely, and immediately goes back to the kitchen to ask. Unfortunately, all the cook would tell her is "it's made of vegetables." ... We had deduced that, but wanted to know what specifically the patty was made of. My friend ended up ordering it anyways, and said that it was a pretty flavorless patty. I ordered the Vegetarian Primavera. This wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. It was noodles in pesto with some veggies. I definitely don't think it was worth the price, but it was decent! I'll still be back for breakfast, but I'd recommend skipping Stone House for lunch/dinner. read more

This is the most beautiful location to enjoy a sunny day with dining al fresco. The patio has many tables tucked in between bushes and flowers creating a bit of privacy, a nature retreat in the middle of the city. Your furry friends a welcome as long as they are quiet and friendly. The menu is extensive, and every dish creative, delicious, and artistically presented. It is amazing to listen to the waiters describe the special. I have found the wait staff charming, thoughtful, and fun. Ive had breakfast at Stone house a few times and its a great local spot. Corned beef hash was very good but portion was a little light and not served with a side of those wonderful thin sliced crispy breakfast potatoes .... luckily i got to eat some of my wife's!! My wife had the Truckee meadows scrambler and she loved it!! Breakfast is served with a lovely sourdough bread but for some odd reason they put marmalade on it for you...... I'm not a jam or jelly person and don't think most dudes are and I damn sure don't like orange marmalade. I think marmalade on your sourdough for everyone is a huge miss, marmalade to me is an acquired taste similar in my mind to black licorice , not everyone digs it so just butter your toast and let people decide what they want on their toast. A bit of a disappointment. I ordered the crab omelette with the vegetable hash. My omelette was somewhat dry (the eggs) and had a ton of cheese. The crab was on the top and it was also somewhat dry. The vegetable hash was tasty and healthy. My husband ordered a cheeseburger with fries. One of his fries had a nasty end that should have been cut off before he received the food. Otherwise he enjoyed the meal. Service was lacking quite a bit. She never came to check on us until we were done eating to offer my husband a refill on his iced tea. I asked her for to go boxes. I had half of my food left and she brought a small box. I asked for a larger box which she did bring but she should have seen the amount of food on my plate. We were seated in the indoor porch, with a heater on. It was very warm until the door opened and cold air swished in. I haven't been here in years and I'm glad that this place does not disappoint. Came in for brunch and was greeted and sat down right away. They serve Illy coffee and I love Illy coffee so that was a great start. Shared a plate of their banana rum French toast (to die for!) and their popular smoked salmon benedict. I have always been a fan of the menu here, but I'll be honest, I stopped visiting for a while due to the rumors regarding how the previous ownership treated their staff. I was thrilled to hear that ownership has officially changed, so I decided it was time to come back and treat myself to a midweek brunch. The Food I ordered the Tuscan Scrambler, and it is truly better than ever. If you've never tried the combination of pesto and eggs, you are missing out; it is a brilliant, savory pairing that they execute perfectly. The quality of the food has stayed consistently high, which was a relief to see. The Atmosphere While the food is fantastic, it's the vibe that really won me over this time. The outside space is absolutely gorgeous. Sitting out there, you completely forget you're at a cafe, it feels like you've been transported to a private, lush garden for afternoon tea. Must Try: Tuscan Scrambler Pro Tip: Definitely ask for a table in the garden/outdoor area. The Verdict: If you've been staying away because of the old management, it's time to come back. This has been my second visit to Stonehouse and it is absolutely incredible. I got to sit in the outside garden this time, which was so majestic and beautiful. My salad was amazing with tasty turmeric dressing and I added salmon for extra protein. Salmon was so well cooked and delicious. Five stars -highly recommended! I can't wait to go back! read more

I have always like the Stone House Cafe but PLEASE get a new Hostess first of all. Something was wrong with her she was so absolutely rude and never smiled or greeted us. An AI robo would have been nicer. Once seated i noticed she was rude and never smiled to anyone. Our waiter was the BEST he was friendly, worked hard to please us and we all liked his serve and personality a lot. the food looked excellent around the table. My two crab cakes arrived cold and they had to recook them and they offered me a free dessert for the inconvenience which was very nice. This was the first time there were so many LOUD drunk young guys from the bar talking over everyone. it was terrible. could not hear ourselves hardly at all. The noise level was pretty awful and it was only 130 in the afternoon. it felt very different than it has in the past when i took my mom there. it was quiet and seemed as if there were more tables in the restaurant. After 12 years it's def time for an update! My folks were visiting, and as they (and I) tend to do, they chatted with any local with a pulse that crossed their paths and would engage them in conversation. Why? Well you may think it's because they're just friendly, but that's only part of the story. Turns out, as an outsider this is one of the best ways to quickly learn about some of the community's best bets, and that's exactly how we landed at Stone House! Now I know this place is absolutely beloved by the entire community, and after this visit I can see why. Charming atmosphere, exceptional service, and in true Abowd fashion, a wildly diverse menu that highlights quality ingredients and creative preparations, each item very good. I have a new found understanding of this place after the recent visit, and must say the only reason I haven't been back sooner is because I unfairly based my opinion on a peak brunch hour experience, during which it was absolutely slammed with an hour plus wait at a time when reservations were never necessary anywhere. It's rare to find servers who know the menu back and front, with experience based recommendations. Here that have that, and they have to recall several daily specials with the same familiarity, which they manage to do exceptionally well. I had the San Diego sandwich, with a thick piece of seared ahi layered on top of real Dungeness crab salad, served on toasted ciabatta with side of your choice. The ciabatta was unfortunately pretty soft and the sandwich could've benefitted from crusty bread. Next time I might ask about having it on sourdough. The ahi was seared nicely and the Dungeness crab was cold and sweet, but overall it lacked seasoning, which I remedied by adding the warm coconut shrimp taco's sauce to it. We had the special Dungeness crab quesadilla, also good but definitely needed sauce. My kids had pancakes and nearly licked the plate clean. My wife had the southwestern salad with grilled chicken. It was an impressive salad but the chicken was a bit dry and I tasted a lot of cumin too. With the dressing added, it mellowed a bit. There were a lot of menu items I wanted to try and I'll be sure to be back soon. Reservations are absolutely required, especially for weekends, so call well in advance! read more

I was there tonight and thought the service and food were both great even despite it being a very busy night on the patio. I highly recommend the California burger (which you can get in either beef or chicken patty). Owner came to our table briefly and asked for feedback and shared some of the vision for the future. I haven't been to Stone House in years. Not sure why. I definitely have saved those moments for summer, outdoor eating season because once you walk inside, the mood/vibe is dead. Anyways... Came for Easter Brunch and now have a renewed zeal for this place. I'm not a huge fan of big, page after page menus but I get theirs. Each one of our plates were "nothing to complain about" that's a joy! My lamb burger-sans the bun was cooked just to my request and the side salad was truly notable. One of my guests ordered the chicken caprese sandwich and it was drool worthy. Nice server, considering the place was packed to overflow everything flowed nicely. Although we were seated at the table directly adjacent to the parking lot, and some could say, least desirable, we had no complaints. I re-toured the rest of the outdoor seating before leaving and it's really one of the most lovely outdoor dining venues around! Last time I was here the hedges were at knee height. I don't ever send notes or leave reviews but last evening was such a letdown across the board - not a single isolated item. Didn't want to make this public - but there's no email on your website, your facebook page is down, so had to put on yelp. Been to Stone House many times over the years, but not in the past 6 months. It started when I walked inside and was asked 'can I help you?" as if I looked like I was lost, while I was reaching to pull out a bar stool chair. I replied I was here to 'get something to eat and drink'. Then this: The blackened salmon (my favorite) was extremely overcooked. As in chewy. I used my fork to CUT it. Not the usual restaurant overcook of fish, but overdone. The piece was about 50-60% the size of before. The vegetables relied on the cheap broccolini now, with a few thin bell peppers very thinly sliced. Just a few slivers. No more carrots or I believe pea pods. The rice, which isn't an issue really, was maybe again 60-70% of before. I understand restaurants have to trade off portion size and raising prices. The price may be the same, but the normal quality was terrible, and coupled with the large size reduction -- the value was a total bust. The inside temperature was in the 80s, like outside. Certainly not expecting A/C 72 degrees at all (I've been here before), but this was more than before. With doors/windows open so same temp as outside. The wine bottles are sitting out in that temp - first it's terrible to serve warm wine at 80 degrees, but also it affects the wine quality being warm for days sitting out - even basic bottles rotating by the glass. I had a glass of Daou cab and it was as expected - warm and terrible. Toss on top you want $17 for a glass of Dauo -- it's a $10 bottle to you at best. I know alcohol sales are the profits, but coupled with the rest it felt really pushing the window. And then it's served warm. Still not done. Then at 730pm the cleaning started throughout the bar as if it were closing time. Now I realize there was no one inside at all, and only me at the bar. So sure, some early cleanup and organizing is expected. But this was full scale cleaning. A bit unpleasant while eating. Even getting the check & paying the bill - was handled while they were wearing cleaning gloves. I gave my credit card a quick wipe on my pants cause it seemed the thing to do. Then after someone asked, and I shared the salmon was a 'bit over-cooked', one person said 'we like feedback so we can get better'- what?!?! You mean you KNOW you don't know how to cook food? You need ME to tell you? That's absurd - then you should pay me for that expertise you don't have, not charge me while you figure it out. By the way - I've come here for 5-6 years - no excuse to now have no idea how to cook salmon or serve basic glass of wine, and even the new mgmt is over 4 months with same menu - shouldn't be that hard. This isn't about subtle or nuanced things - this is basic food and wine preparation. Unfortunately I guess I won't be coming back - the quality, portions, experience was basic and plain and value over-priced. Instead of being that cool, little gem of a spot - you dropped below an Outback or BJs chain (their salmon is cooked 'normal', wine at average temp, glass price 10-20% less). No wonder at 7pm on Friday night it was empty inside - no one but me, and outside was sparse. If you can't cook salmon, you clearly can't be trusted with scallops or shrimp or a medium-rare filet.... I might be tempted for breakfast still, but I wonder if the omelettes are now dry and flat, and any insides are a few scattered pieces. Whatever happened is a shame... read more

The food is always good here. My only complaint is that it's always so noisy either outside or inside. I realize they can't help the outside sitting by the road but they definitely can fix the acoustics inside so it's not so loud. We have been coming to stone house for years and is one of our favorite breakfast places. We usually try to get there early as it can be a long wait due to the popularity. During the summer we love sitting outside on the patio. They have some of the best French Toast which is a normal go to option. They use a nice thick cut of ciabatta bread. The omelets are also very good and side potatoes. Overall this is a solid spot for breakfast. They also have lunch and dinner options that I have not tried but need to one day. read more
