We had our 50th wedding anniversary party at the WRG in December of 2023. All of the managers with which I dealt in order to make the party arrangements were amazing. Each time I spoke with Reto or Emma they were attentive, flexible, creative and recorded each detail. The wait staff needed a couple of gentle reminders on that night, but no big deal either. I didn't expect that they would know exactly when we needed anything. Knowing exactly what we needed at any given moment would have required them to hover closeby, which thankfully they didn't do. A short walk up the hallway took care of it. We highly recommended the short ribs of beef to our guests and whoever ordered it (almost of them) and our guests who ordered other items loved their meals. We ordered 2 trays of appetizers: the salmon crostinis and the brie and pear. The salmon was good, but we wouldn't order the brie and pear again. The brie was almost invisible and melted into the bread and the pear was discolored and unappetizing looking. My meal was extraordinary and unique because I have so many food considerations. Our daughter overheard 4 employees in a huddle trying to figure out what to serve me and they came up with a delicious meal for me! They really cared about not serving me any of my allergens. The City Room was set up perfectly, the wait staff was efficient, pleasant and courteous. I don't know how they could have done a better job, from the minute I first called to make arrangements to our parting words at 10:00pm. Two minor negatives are that the City Room was breezy & cold from the vents and the independent baker that they referred me to for cake, was difficult, inflexible and unpleasant to deal with. The waiter only checked up on us twice once before the meal came and once after we had already finished and the food was either bland or over seasoned and when I tried to pay the bill was $95 and I wanted to do 90 on my card and the rest in cash but they charged $100 to my card and kept the cash. I didn't have enough to pay for my phone bill after that so I went two weeks without any communication with my job which resulted in me getting written up. Very disappointed. This use to be a wonderful place with excellent food, but no more. My dish of mushroom raviolis was the only good meal. However, my wedge salad was overdressed. My friend's Mediterranean mahi-mahi, was dry and tasteless. My other friend's filet mignon was overcooked...when she ordered it medium well (that means it's supposed to have a very light tinge of pink in center) and was to contain no marble, and it had a big piece of fat in it. The Parmesan risotto cake was tasteless. And to top it all off, the servicer was cold, and very impersonal, wouldn't look us in the eye and seem to ignore us, and we tried very much to engage with him and be nice, and he just wouldn't respond. I have been wanting to try this place for quite some time so when my cousin finally decided on a place to eat for her birthday dinner, this was her choice and I was very excited. Take note...MAKE A RESERVATION. With that being said, we showed up on a Thursday night, and was told it would be anywhere from 25-30 min wait, not a big deal, we grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered some wine. We actually decided to eat at the bar...it was pretty busy and we didn't want to wait any longer. The bartender...she was amazing, didn't catch her name, but she was awesome. We ordered the Crab and Salmon Cakes...so delicious. The special was a pan roasted halibut, which was awesome, we also ordered the Meatloaf with portabella mushrooms, and rosemary house mashers. To be honest I was very scared to order Meatloaf due to past Meatloaf nightmares...lol, but it was truly amazing...even with the bread hair or eyelash I found in my gravy!! I was going to eat it anyway but the bartender insisted I get a new one, I was cool with it either way, it was tasting so good. Then there was the amazing Ribeye, with added sautéed mushroom blend, and turf it was very good. We had the Flourless Chocolate Torte and the Truckee River Mud for dessert, both were very good. Had dinner today here with a party of six. We had reservations at 6:45pm buy ended up in the area early so went in at 6pm. They were very welcoming and accommodating and were actually able to sit us early. Everyone loved their food. Ribeye with mashed potatoes was AMAZING!. Seriously, so delicious. Another person ordered the trout and liked it. I had the Brussel sprouts and the butternut squash salad. Both were really good. The butternut squash was smaller than I expected- small cubes rather than small quarters, but still really good. Another person had the elk medallions and said it was good. We walked in off the snowy street after wandering around looking for a place to eat New Years Eve. Everything was closed. So grateful they were open! The food and service were excellent. He was attentive and his guidance through the salivating menu was superb. Cool place with great ambiance right on the Truckee River. Excellent place to grab a bite and people watch as the restaurant sits right on the river and a walkway that runs along the Truckee. Good selection of Craft Beers and Cocktails along with a fairly decent menu. We went with a large group and the Crispy Shrimp Tacos were pretty popular. We also ordered the French Onion Soup, Cobb Salad, several of their Sandwiches and their Fajitas which was a daily special. Nice server but just a little slow but when lunch came they had a small group help bring everything out at once. All in all a good place but grab an outdoor table. But all I do know I went with family to Reno and it was amazing! This place is def a 5 star and I forgot the name of the waiter, which I believed he said he was going to become a bartender for the company. Which I hope he became one. But the over all experience for me was excellent. Right in downtown Reno so it's near everything. I order the beet salad to give it a try and usually I don't like beets but I was like what the heck. And I'm so happy I order that with an amazing Brew of an ipa. Others order a meatloaf which was extremely soft and tender. Heard nothing but good from my friend. They have outdoor seating to get a great view of the Riverwalk and or you can seat inside which the large group I was with did. And after that you could walk around and find great bars. Tough review to gauge the start rating for. I've been here 3 times in the last 3 weeks. 2 of those visits were back to back just 1 day apart (dinner then brunch). This last visit was for dinner last night. The other two visits were spot on - prompt and attentive service. Well timed delivery of the ordered items. Never ending water refills. Accommodating to a large group for the first dinner and then a small 4 top for the brunch. Each time, a great experience and great food. The fish tacos at brunch were delicious and paired quite nicely with the pomegranate lemonade. Perfect for a warm afternoon on the river. The dinner a few weeks ago was also delightful. I had the sliders off of the happy hour menu and an order of the garlic fries off that menu as well. Both were delicious. My fellow diners raved about the spicy ketchup that accompanied the fries but as a person terrified of spice i refrained. I didn't miss out on anything as the fries are so yummy they don't need to be sullied with ketchup! Last night however, different story. That's where you went from a strong 4 to a middle ground 3 star restaurant. We entered a few minutes before 5 PM. We were seated immediately and had drinks delivered shortly. We ordered the bruschetta appetizer as well as our entrees. Our app was delivered quickly and the water refills kept coming. The minutes continued to tick by with the waiter stopping by several times to ensure us our food was headed out shortly. Shortly was an hour after ordering. The waiter stated a party of 16 had all ordered happy hour offerings and backed up the kitchen. My food was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious once it was delivered. The continuous promise of food on its way was not something I found particularly appetizing however. I think I may stick to patio dining on afternoons along the river if I come back. I really wanted to like this place. It has a gluten-free menu, sort of. I ordered a hamburger. They had a gluten-free bun. The side choice was French Fries. They are reportedly gluten-free, BUT they are fried in the same oil as everything else. So the oil is contaminated with gluten. They were aware of that but don't do anything about it. So I asked what was my option. I had none, unless I wanted to pay an up charge for a side, which was at least $4.00 more. So I paid $17.00 for just a hamburger. On top of that, if the burger had been left on the grill any longer, it would have be burnt. I asked for well done, but they over did it. The patty was like an In & Out patty. I like In & Out burger, but I expected at better burger for $17.00. On top of that, they don't have Coca-Cola. The prices are too expensive for what you get. I'm only giving them a three stars since the other meals were fine. I left unsatisfied and wanting something more to eat. read more

The service is always on point and attentive. Water is always full, wine always full and I've never had a complaint. Nope, nothing wild there. So why wild? (Other than the obvious, but allow me some rhetorical devices). Wild, for me summons images of untamed forests or jungles overgrown with vegetation. Teeming with life and bursting out over the edges. So I just have never gotten behind the Wild River Grille moniker....so much so that I always forget the name of that place down by the river, you know, the one who is in the old Riverside Hotel? I have had several really meaningful meals here. When my grandma passed away, my mom and I shared a beautiful meal together in the late afternoon. The restaurant was quiet and allowed us to have a nice private conversation over a gorgeous bottle of wine. The location is great. We took a little stroll along the river after we ate and continued our talk. The service was wonderful and our waitress took a cute candid picture of us that I cherish. First of all I want to add that the atmosphere and location of this restaurant is one of my favorites in Reno. You cannot beat sitting on the patio in the summer beside the river and on the weekends listening to live music. In the Fall and winter months it is just as nice inside with an intimate and romantic atmosphere. This place is great for a date night or for a business meeting. The only thing that has me give it a 4 instead of a 5 is the fact that the food (while very good) never blows me away. We went the other night for a light dinner and I ordered French-onion soup and the Wild River salad and it was very good but it lacked something. The soup was very dark not sure if it had been cooked too long but just did not have the flavor it should and the cheese just didn't mesh as it should...I really wanted it to. My husband had the scallops and he said they were very very good, but just a little small and needed just a touch more flavor. We do love this place and go there often and their food is very very good, so please make sure you visit...i just do not think they are a 5 star compared with the prices....YET! Their out door seating is the best...as close as you can get to dinning on the Truckee River in downtown not in a hotel...some night they have live music and all nights the outdoor seating is dog friendly. The place is huge beyond the patio, there's a bar, table seating and a private dinning room. I've been to a few events in the private dinning room. They do a good buffet, I've never had a plated dinner there. Service was good. Bartenders were friendly. Just what you want for a private event. Lunch is usually my go to here. They do solid sandwiches and salads. It makes everyone happy from friends to family to business meetings. Dinner always enjoyable but a bit on the spendy side. The price point for this dish is $29 and the dish itself comes with around 8 single raviolis. In my opinion, this price point is ridiculous and a complete rip off! I mean really, I have no complaints (hence the 5 stars). For some reason I always had a negative feeling about WRG because I had only been for cocktails at the bar years ago. When I moved to Reno in 2012, I think it was the first place on my must try list though I never did. My girlfriend mentioned she had recently been for happy hour and was raving about the food and the HH prices. I said, "sh!$ let's go"! We went last Thursday, July 3rd, 2020 (during Covid). Of course we had to wear masks when not at our table which really sucks but I get it. Anyhoo, we grabbed a nice table outside around 4:30 and ordered a glass of the house chard ($4.50) while we waited for our company. It got a little windy and surprisingly crowded but it was so nice being outside in the summer by the river. Time to order food! I'm a huge crab cake connoisseur so those were a MUST and I couldn't say no to the chicken skewers and for the price why not add it on? My-oh-my the food was bangin'! Chicken so tender, sauce so honey mustardy, and the cakes, so soft yet crispy. One more glass of chard please then the bill.
