Visited a friend in Anchorage and he highly recommended this place. He warned us the line would get long in the afternoon and it did grow quickly after we got in line. No place to sit and eat but across the street is a little park that you can walk to in less than a minute to enjoy your treat. This is a very rich, luscious, awesome ice cream! Ingredients are as much from Alaska as possible. Staff are pleasant and helpful. But check out the sign on the sidewalk that shows you how to order before you reach the window to speed things up. Take a pic of the choices available for the day then get in line and decide while waiting. We got the 4 item sampler for $10. We figured we wouldn't get back here again soon so we wanted to try as many flavors as possible. Just know that this is a rich ice cream so four scoops for two people is a lot. But it was a fun experience! Yukon Gold - Homemade Alaska potato chip toffee and fudge in a sweet cream vase was yummy, sweet and salty, and crunchy bits. Sitka Swirl - Homemade caramel with Alaska sea salt in sweet cream base - another winner! Would definitely get these two again! White Raven - Oreos in sweet cream base and Malted Milk & Cookies in vanilla base were both very rich and creamy. While more "ordinary" they were definitely awesome and worth getting again if there aren't more exotic flavors to try. Get there early to avoid long lines. This gets 3 stars for ingenuity but honestly the ice cream is closer to a 2 or 1 star. The waffle cones are some of the best, if not the best, I've ever eaten. Unfortunately that doesn't make up for the poor ice cream quality. I've tried their ice cream multiple times and was disappointed every time by how disgustingly sweet yet somehow flavorless their ice cream is. You can tell the sugar content is too high by the fact that the ice cream melts too quickly and is very soft to begin with. I've tasted numerous flavors and was especially disappointed in the mint flavored ones. Not only do they not taste sharp and minty--you can taste the chlorophyll and greenness in the ice cream due to however they extract their "local Alaskan mint." The whole local ingredients schtick is cool and all but the ice cream needs flavor and sadly it's lacking in that. I prefer cold and almost icy ice creams, not melting creme anglaise base with barely any air whipped into it. The baked Alaska cone topping is whipped marshmallow cream that's torched. While that part is good, in my opinion it's too sweet because it's quite a lot of marshmallow. The cones are very sweet and delicate/crispy. In my opinion, sweet cones, sweet toppings, and ultra sweet ice cream is overkill. At least one thing should be neutral or salty. I really want them to improve their ice cream and do better because local artisan ice creameries are few and far between. Until then--this ain't it chief. read more
