What a blast from the past! History lesson and entertainment rolled into one. The re -enactors were great. Don't miss the saloon fight! All of the shows happen right on Main Street, so it's basically impossible to miss one. The staff are so courteous and are more than happy to answer any questions. We weren't sure if our kids (10 & 8) would be too old.....not at all! My husband and I even had a great time. Walking into the gift shop makes you want to buy a cowboy hat! Something for everyone. My ONLY criticism is that the candy store needs more stock......I thought it would feel like walking into an old time sweet shop, but it missed the mark. My daughters loved it. We stayed the entire day. The staff were very friendly, food was good, musician was great played some sing along songs for the kids in the Saloon. It was so nice to see everyone's kids using there imagination. The girls really enjoyed the stage coach ride, train ride, pony ride , panning for gold and visiting the animals in the barn. Their favorite parts were the shows throughout the day , participating in arresting of the bank robbers and our stage coach getting robbed. We went to Wild West City yesterday. Everyone was friendly and made you feel right at home out west in Dodge City. It put you back in the past with some good history and antiques. It's small so a good 1/2 day excursion and a little history. The food was reseasonably priced nothing to write home about but it did it's job. The magic show was pretty good. The mini golf looked and felt like it hasn't been touched since I was a kid. We got to shift for gold which was good to teach a bit of history to our little one. We were here in April earlier this year, and came back for a 2nd time. It was just as good as the 1st, the staff is great, food is good, and kid interaction is wonderful! I've read some of the other reviews regarding how people don't like the use of guns, but the website clearly says that they are reenacting the Wild West history period, so I'm not sure why some would be surprised to see this when there is an entire FAQ section of their website to help those that may have questions before going. I have a 7 and 11 year old. They both loved it and can't wait to go back. Gift shop was alittle expensive and they need to upgrade some areas. It was definitely more than we wanted to spend and feel they should just include some extras instead of charging for every little thing. The staff was extremely friendly and entertaining. I was there today (8/11/23) from around 11am til 4:30pm and I had a FANTASTIC time! A lot of fun, the train ride and stagecoach ride were great...tho the miniature golf course needs some tlc... the shows were great, the food was excellent and not too badly priced...but I have to say...the worker who portrayed Sawdust Charlie Hodges at the end of the day (right before closing ceremonies...the bank robbery show) was my absolute FAVORITE out of them all...he was the "last outlaw shot by wyatt earp" in the shootout at the ok corral show, and earlier in the day he was wearing a red shirt and a black vest...he stuck out in my mind because of his ponytail lol...I walked by him down by the miniature golf area when he was coming out of the stables with an historic license plate around his neck, I laughed and said "you're historic" and he nodded, smiled and headed up to the main street. All the interactions with the actors was great...one player was by the "fur pelt booth" and he doubled as the train robber and as one of wyatt earl's men...the knowledge that EVERYONE displayed was amazing, especially the "school marm" and the train engineer...we are excited about coming back for the Halloween show later this year! Very disappointed, I didn't think it's worth the money or time. First off it was $108 for a family of four and that's just to get in and watch the cowboy skits, look at a few farm animals, pan some dirt for gold and look inside stores.Everything else is extra! Way back in the 50s before I-80 really established itself as the coast-to-coats connector it is today, Jerseyans traveled across Route 46 for summer fun. Lakes and attractions dotted either side, but the last traces of old NJ summer fun are dying out. Thankfully, The Land of Make-Believe and Wild West City are still going strong. Started in the 50s and capitalizing on the burgeoning western themes on early television, WWC gave kids a part in a show that lasted from the moment they arrived until the moment they left. Every person in costume at WWC is in character and stays in character, from the chuck wagon cook to the old marshal. Sure, you can point out anachronisms and laugh at the irony of arcade games in one building, but you'd be missing the point. WWC is recreating something of the frontier right in NJ, and it's surprisingly rich in education, history, and fun. Here's a real treat for you: go to the schoolhouse and chat up the schoolteacher. If you catch her right, you'll get a real education on education. And every part of the town has its own local expert. Talk to them, chat them up, and really get into it. Watch Jack the Whipper put on a blazing good show with exploding whips and throwing knives. Watch shootouts and stage coach holdups, posse call outs and the hunt for outlaws right in town. And, same as Land of Make-Believe, just bring your picnic right in, find a spot, and leave your gear. It'll be there when you're hungry, untouched. I last came here when I was about eight or so, so bringing my two kids was a little bit of a nostalgic trip. This place is just great! My kid loves it and so does my wife and I. It's a taste of classic American entertainment. I think the place has been around since 1959. I took my son here recently and we had a great time. September on a weekend is a good time to go. I must agree that the staff was all extremely friendly. With admission, rides on the train, stagecoach and two pony rides we spent around $45, not including food. I did like the fact that they were not trying to hardsell anything, as the shops were tucked in along the sides and you have to go inside to check them out. The last thing my son wanted to do was go inside. I have to point out that if you're apprehensive about guns and prefer not to expose your children to gun violence (albeit feigned), you should think twice about going. As was mentioned in another review, all the kids are walking around with loud pistols and as we strolled up the street many were "shooting" at us quite aggressively. Plus when you ride the train or stagecoach you are held up by gun-wielding bandits. This was one of the places I found myself dragged to this summer to entertain my grandkids. It is like walking into a B western movie. It felt more tired than wild after 57 years of operation. Nevertheless it was kind of cute. It did give me a hint of what it may have been like living in those days. Avoid riding the choo choo train if at all possible. The engine spews exhaust and there was no escape. It was especially bad when the train passed through the tunnel. How the local health dep't lets these guys get away with that I have no idea. I was here many years ago when I was my son's age. I remember it being bigger when I was a kid. The theme as you can guess is the Wild West. Throughout the day there are shows and demonstrations on the main street running through town. The kids will love it because of all the noise. Plus every kid seems to buy a cap gun in the town store and becoming a gun slinger. There are some desperadoes that you are bound to run into. The people that work here are all very friendly (Even the bad guys). I did discover that the saloon servers alcohol. Stop in and get yourself a shot of whiskey, partner. The costs seem reasonable, but they do add up if you are with someone like my wide. We did save a few dollars on admission by using a coupon from the Entertainment Book. Parking is free and plentiful. Once you are inside there are additional charges for the stage coach ride, train ride, food to feed animals and miniature golf. The miniature golf is not the main reason that you are at Wild West City. The course is located near the petting zoo and is well shaded if you need to get out of the sun. The theme is not the wild west, I don't even know if there is a theme If you are looking for something to do check Wild West City out. I bought a groupon for here on a whim ($54 for four which included 8 extra experience tickets). I had never heard of it before, and thought it looked fun for my three year old. I didn't really know what I was walking into. We visited on an unseasonably cool day in the spring. It wasn't busy at all, in fact there were only a handful of people there, and unfortunately I think that detracted from our experience a bit. Certainly not their fault, but something to consider when choosing when to go. This is like the old 50s Western TV shows comes to life. It was founded in the 50s and it appears not a whole lot has changed since then. PC it is not, but it does have some interesting and informative displays. Really, you go here if you love kitschy retro stuff, or you have young children. I happen to fall into both categories so we had a great time. The staff was very friendly and personable. Their acting abilities left a little to be desired, but they did an adequate job considering the physical requirements (fighting, riding horses, shooting etc.) They involve kids whenever possible and even tone down the "bad guy" routine to make them approachable. There are stories portrayed throughout the day and they direct you via the loudspeaker to know where to go and look for the best seats. They also provided a singing cowboy in the saloon during one break, and he was pretty darn good. My daughter was especially tickled with being able to ride in the stagecoach (upcharge but we had tickets). Hold on tight to little ones - you are up very high and there is no railing or seat straps! The train ride was also a hit (also upcharge). We did the pony ride (last upcharge), but I was disappointed the ponies were hitched up to a circle contraption in a small circular pen. I would have been more comfortable if they were lead by the reins and then hitched. Horses are used throughout the day and then hitched in "town" just like back in the day. They were left unattended, and I saw some children harassing them which made me upset, and also wary for the kids sake of getting bit etc. Certainly not the horses fault, but please treat these animals with some respect. I was able to approach each animal and interacted with them for some time with no issues.They are generally very calm and docile which is probably why they were trusted alone, but they are still animals and entitled to their feelings. Food here was fine but in need of a bit of improvement. I was disappointed to see a pizza joint (in a wild west place? really?) and really wish they had BBQ or pit beef. Total missed opportunity. Overall the highs out shined any lows, and it was something fun to do that reminded you of simpler times. read more

I have been a Western my fan my whole life, so how did Wild West City escape me? As a kid I remember Comedian Uncle Floyd singing their TV commercial jingle but never knew they were still around. Well much to my chagrin I learned they have been performing wild west shows for 61 years. Reenacting street fights like the OK Corral and the James Gang famous Stage Coach Robbery. Seven in our group (all ages) LOVED the day. The actors (Cowboys and an occasional Indian) interact with and engage the audience for even more fun. I am surprised to see some bad reviews here. This place is very old but so is the Wild West! I went here when I was a kid and I go once a year now. The actors are young and do a good job. Of course it's the same venue ( you can't rewrite history) you pay your money enjoy the fresh air. Pet some horses and see a good show outdoors. Don't go in there thinking your going to see movie quality actors. But the actors involve the kids. I saw one actor playing with the kids and he didn't even have to. there was a break where they can just hang out he spent the whole time playing with them. Really fun for kids! I suggest that if your kids have a toy gun that they bring it. The shows are interactive with the audience and kids will want a toy gun. You can buy guns there in the general store, but they can be a little expensive. I also suggest that you pack your own food and drinks. They let you bring them in. They have food to eat there in the saloons, but you should pack to be cost efficient. Each extra thing (stage coach, train ride, pony ride, and mini golf) cost $3 a person. All employees are very nice and stay in the cowboy character. You should try to go on a slower day (such as monday) so that your kids can be more involved. Definitely suggest it! read more

Wild West City is a treasure that began in the 1950s and is a wonderful, traditional trip back into history Another very popular amusement destination that existed in the area, Bertrand Island Park, is long gone, but Wild West City is still going strong. I can't recommend this place highly enough for a family outing. In a time where DVDs, video games and IPods and IPhones are the norm for children's entertainment, it's wonderful to be able to take the kids to a place where they can see history come alive in an authentic recreation of the wild west. The wild west shows, featuring cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws detail what life was like in the the west on a Main Street modeled after Dodge City, Kansas. In addition, adults and children can ride a frontier train that gets held up by outlaws and ride a stagecoach through town. Prices at Wild West City are very reasonable, and it's possible to bring your own lunch and enjoy the wonderful shaded picnic area. Worse entertainment I've ever seen. We walked in and after literally five minutes went through the whole place and went back to get my money back and was told they didn't give refunds. Stayed a little longer to give it a chance and was extremely disappointed. Very outdated and with a $65 entrance fee for four all the attractions were extra. This place is random and amazing! I can't believe it exists right here in New Jersey! We had so much fun. The employees seem to really enjoy working here. There's a train ride, pony rides, a stagecoach ride, mini golf, animals kids can feed, and ongoing Wild West shows that take place on the center road. There are lots of old buildings including a tiny church, a school house, a jail, a blacksmith, etc. They serve veggie burgers and black bean burgers so there are veggie options. Credit cards are accepted most places. It wasn't very crowded during our visit, probably since it was over 90 degrees. We'll be back for sure! read more

I remember going as a kid and loving it, I also remember it being much bigger. But then again, I was a kid and it really was larger than life then! My son has been there twice and wants to go again this year. It's a lot of fun running around, seeing the old things, he loves the stagecoach ride especially. Yes you have to pay for extra things but it's not that much and you don't have to do it. The shows are fun to watch. The only negative I have is the bathrooms, dark and dirty but it is the wild west. I am very much anti gun, my son isn't allowed in a home with a gun. I have no issues with it here, at all. It's not real, and can be a good learning tool on the dangers of guns. read more

Wild west city is an amazing place! The owners, staff and volunteers are thoughtful, generous and so talented! Our group was delighted with every skit, reenactment and interaction. The train ride was fun and engaging. The stage coach ride was also fun! All the children in our group enjoyed the pony rides. I love that all the kids got so wrapped up in the performances and characters that they were willing to unplug for the day and truly live in the moment.
