This is the second time this year that I have written a review about the staff at Wilder Bros. The staff is amazing. Once again I am giving them five stars. They have earned it! I have a 27 year old Toyota Camry. Many parts are no longer available for this car. I needed a new heater core and new brass pipes to carry coolant from the engine to the heater core. A new heater core was available, but the brass pipes were no where to be found. Wilder Bros was able to construct new brass pipes and restore my car's heating/defrosting system. It seems like a miracle. The staff always focuses on high quality work. They deliver high quality and do so at a very competitive and reasonable price. Owner of the shop (Glenny) sold me(a 18 year old at the time) a money pit for 7000 that has ran me over 4-5000 dollars in an 11 month span after promising me not a thing would be wrong with it and when I brought this up to him he didn't care and said he has no obligation to do anything about it and that it was basically my problem now. This mechanic shop charges ridiculous prices because it's in a rich town (600 for brakes). So go to wilder bros if you like to overpay excessively and be ripped off. read more

While the services was good and they were always accommodating for booking. My oil changes always took an hour and a half/ up to two hours. I have never experienced an oil change taking that long. I waited over 2 hours for this past oil change. read more

My family has been using Wilders for our repairs for three generations (maybe more, when did they open?). They are honest, trustworthy and reliable. I brought a car to the dealer this week - they wanted $3600 for repairs, both necessary and imagined. Took it to Glen at Wilders. He told me what HAS to be done, what can wait and what is ridiculous (like a $250 quote from tufankjian Toyota to fix a wonky door over the gas cap on a 200k mike van. There are work-around and Glen will tell you the truth and do the agreed upon work properly. I never worry about being overcharged or told I need work that I don't. BTW - the $3600 in "necessary" work came down to $1400 with Wilder's. And if your biggest complaint (on this site) is an hour wait for an oil change, go to speedy whatever where they don't bother checking anything else. If you want the job done properly, you can probably wait, patiently. read more

The owner Glenn Wilder and his office manager Cathy are really hands on, great communicators. In this world of knowbody can do anything right, Wilder Bros does it all right ! A total stand out premium tire store. Nice and clean with all the employees dressed in clean uniforms and the garage is spotless. A loaner Jag was offered to us by we live down by the Harbor so no need for the car, but a very nice feature. Their prices line up with all the discount no service stores near us. They inspected the car the next day and gave me a list of potential issues with the car, an estimate of the cost to repair those things, and then gave me an opinion of the ballpark price for the car. PROS: Hey, Wilder Brothers is one of those old school places where they remember you (and your car) and feel like family. Pretty nice in this day and age! The front desk gets you in and out OK. The owner is knowledgeable and a real Scituate "townie" in a folksy kind of way. Wilder generally does good work relative to others in the area and I have no problem with that. I would clearly recommend them. CON: There is, however, a customer experience that has been an issue with me (and others) and needs to be approached with caution. First, don't necessarily take their word that something (like replacement parts, etc.) are not available or that a particular repair job (particularly on older cars) can't be performed - or (gasp!) if completed are 'gonna cost 'ya'. I had a really uncomplicated repair issue with my domestic car that was deemed "not possible" to fix or on balance (here comes the scare tactic) "will be pretty expensive" according to the owner. Sort of trying to talk me out of it. Curious, I went to a regional service chain in Hingham and they not only fixed the problem - but for two thirds the price that Wilder quoted me. A long time Scituate customer told me repeatedly that if Wilder doesn't have the necessary car model supplies or access to certain parts, their response is 'sorry - can't be done' or that work is 'not necessary' at this time. Well, don't believe 'em. Shop around. BOTTON LINE : I'm all for supporting local businesses like Wilder to a point, but when regular maintenace jobs like oil changes and tire rotations are more $$ than at some of the local chain stores, then loyalty has its limits. So final word, might as well use this South Shore "institution" but take the time to do a little homework when you get a quote or questionable advice. There may be comperable repairs elsewhere at a lower price tag. That goes for tire buying, too. FOOTNOTE: Wilders has expanded by taking over the space next door. It used to be a TV repair shop. It's a nice addition! They did a good job. I'm sure the move was initiated to compete with some of the other more modern auto repair shops in Scituate and surrounding towns. Not sure yet how this will impact on service, but it's a fair wager that it will influence how much customers pay to get their cars back. UPDATE: As suspected, the 'Labor' on my most recent maintenance invoice was $90/hour. It did go up. Don't know about you, but that seems high to me. read more

They took a potentially bad situation and made it into an incredibly positive experience. While having some routine work done, my car was hit in their parking lot. I didn't see the damage until a day or two later after i had taken the car home. When I noticed, I took it back and explained the situation. Even though the incident went unreported, they took full responsibility and paid 100% of the repair costs no questions asked. This experience made me a repeat customer. read more

I have used Wilder since I moved to Scituate four years ago. They are consistently polite and accommodating. I drop the truck off in the morning before they open by using the key drop box and they call me when the work is done. I have never had them make recommendations that were not warranted. Usually I ask them to check everything out and they say it is fine. When they say something is needed, I believe them. They come to know you and your car, which is a plus. read more
