Giving this place a five star review even though only been there one time. Two of us are on business travel so we were looking for something that wasn't really a chain. The menu is big, almost too big. Big enough that the menu could be a diner. The big man you made me very cautious, but the average star rating on yelp make me optimistic. First, we had very good service from a lovely young lady who did everything she could to make sure we had a great time. She worked hard to get us the right wine offering a couple of tastings and some good suggestions. In the end we shared a bottle of the House wine and it was very good, A Cabernet. For dinner one had the skirt steak, and the other had the halibut special. The skirt steak was really fantastic, a generous piece of meat floating in its juices served with a side of creamed spinach that was delicious. Ultimately since we were on California time, Wildfire stayed open the latest so we ended up here. As soon as we arrived, we quickly realized that we chose the best restaurant. Everything was on point from the hostesses, the ambiance, and our waitress Nancy was the bomb. Nancy paid close attention to every detail and was a good conversationalist. She knew the menu well and helped make our anniversary dinner memorable. The food was amazing. I ordered the crab cakes crusted rainbow trout and my wife ordered the trio steak and chopped salad. I figured I'd give Wildfire a try, since it's a Lettuce Entertainment Restaurant. Lettuce Entertainment has never disappointed me. Well. I was wrong. This restaurant is dated on the inside with dirty old carpeting and big, not so comfortable booths. I ordered the halibut special which only came with asparagus and one side. I ordered the au gratin potatoes, as my side. The potatoes lacked salt and were drenched in heavy cream and cheese. The halibut was greasy and I could not taste the macadamia nuts. My bill came to $43. There was a 1% service charge added! $43 for greasy fish, unsalted, heavy potatoes, generic onion rolls and a glass of water. The best thing on the plate was the asparagus, because of the lemon butter sauce. I did receive a tiny bread basket with two generic onion rolls and very salty, whipped butter. I asked the server if there was any other bread in place of the onion rolls. He said they had none! For $38 and no soup or salad. You would think I could have been offered any bread. I would have taken a slice of sandwich bread! Never, again. There are much better restaurants that are worth what they are charging. The app was the bacon wrapped scallops: sounds cliche and I make them myself on a coal fire grill but my colleague ordered them for the table. They come three on a skewer (two skewers) with an apricot dipping jam so more than enough to share. In a word they were sublime-- the bacon was perfectly charred on the edges and the scallop was cooked perfectly with an almost soft center to counterpoint the slight crunch of the bacon. My colleague ordered the haddock which came broiled with a Panko spiced breading and drizzled with a beurre blanc and served with asparagus. The mix of flavors with the blue cheese, avocado, and the lime vinaigrette dressing and crunch with tortilla strips, yum! The filets are always melt in your mouth. My all time favorite when it is in season is the pecan encrusted halibut with asparagus, excellent flavor, and nice texture, mild flavored fish. The peanut butter chocolate pie is really good for dessert, as well as the coconut banana cream pie, or the key lime pie, or carrot cake.. have all been good choices and favorites of our family. My wife and I are huge fans of Wildfire and have been coming for years until a couple months ago. Made reservations for 8:45 and were seated promptly. Immediately you could tell waiter was in a rush to get us in and out. All our food came at once and he would walk by pointing asking how everything was. At one point the busboy stood staring at us as he wanted to go home. My question is if your staff is in such a hurry to go home why accept reservations so late. The flank steak was perfectly cooked and tasted great. The marinade didn't overwhelm the taste of beef but rather nicely enhanced it. However the butter is dull and insipid. And the really low point was the baked potato. Any side dish that is the same size as the main course is not only absurd but shows a bit of fear that the main portion served might not suffice. read more

Dined here last night with my good friend while visiting from Milwaukee. Having worked at several high end steak houses, my expectations were high, and the restaurant did not disappoint. My buddy and I got here at about 9 on a Thursday and the dining room still had several tables beside ourselves. The servers were dressed in typical steakhouse attire with the white coat and apron. The decor was also traditional with black leather booths and seating. We were escorted to our booth right away as there wasn't any wait and a few minutes later our server greeted us and handed us menus and asked if we wanted bread. We said that we did, and when he returned he took our drink orders. I got a Diet Coke and my friend got a Stella. The bread was good, the cornbread was house made and the other rolls were ok too but probably pre made. They came with whipped butter. We then ordered appetizers. We decided on the bacon wrapped scallops and the bison meatballs. The scallops were really tasty with four composing the order, and came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. The bacon was a little soft but the scallops themselves were well cooked. The bison meatballs were really good, and served with marinara and topped with cheese. Very good. We then ordered our entrees. I decided on the porterhouse, and upgraded my side to the twice baked potato. My steak was cooked perfectly as ordered to medium rare, and the potato was huge. My friend got the cedar plank salmon with mashed potatoes. We also ordered the lemon vinaigrette broccoli and roasted mushroom caps. The broccoli was nice and al dente and the mushrooms were delicious and roasted to perfection. We opted not to have dessert. The bill was about $135. We were visiting from out of town for a convention. We are no strangers to fine dining in our hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana. Wildfire needs a lesson in what should and should not be brought out to the table, and their staff needs a lesson in courtesy. When we arrived, we were asked for our names. We gave the hostess our names. She then asked if we called ahead or had reservations. My husband simply said "yes". She then said, "yes, what?". My husband then said, "We called you." Then, she proceeds to ask, "So what do you mean by, 'you called us'? Did you make a reservation, or did you call ahead?" I finally stepped in and said, "We have a reservation for Harris, a party of 3. Can we be seated, please?" She then said, "Yes, come this way." So was her goal to mess with my husband's mind or seat us? I think both. After we were seated we had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious variety of homemade bread while we looked over the menu. The bread would have been the best part of the meal if I knew in advance I was buttering my bread with a surprise treat. I knew something was "off" but I could not pinpoint it exactly. So, I asked our server what the large chunks were in the butter and to my surprise, corn was mixed into the butter that I was slathering on my bread. I prefer my butter spread to be corn-free but that was not an option Wildfire offered. Little did I know at this point in our meal that the best part of it was already over. We were ready to order dinner and our son ordered the horseradish crusted filet, med-rare with broccoli on the side. My husband ordered the same entree with the addition of a salad wedge and creamed spinach. The steaks were cooked correctly; however, the filet was not a high-quality cut of meat. It was so chewy that my son's jaw hurt the entire evening. The most peculiar part of the entree was still patiently waiting to be discovered, underneath the filet. Both my son's filet and my husband's filet were served on top of a slice of whole wheat bread from a loaf of sandwich bread! Does anyone know why a restaurant would serve a fillet on top of a piece of bread you use to make a PB&J sandwich? Any chefs out there have an answer to this one? Does it make the cut of meat look bigger? Does it help soak up any unwanted liquids sloshing around on your dinner plate? We are stumped on this one. Moving on, the broccoli was served yellowish-green in color (over-cooked). Any chef should know that fresh steamed broccoli should be served almost fluorescent green in color or it is over-cooked, and all the nutrients have been cooked out of the vegetable. My husband's salad was not a salad wedge. They did not even have iceberg lettuce in the restaurant, so it would be impossible to serve a salad wedge; however, no one mentioned this until my husband asked what was wrong with his salad. The creamed spinach was not fresh, and you could taste the metal from a can like it was Campbells Soup Creamed Spinach served straight from a can. Finally, the bus boy would not stop asking if I was done eating so he could collect the plates off of our table. After I finally gave him permission, he must have stood there 3 minutes stacking every plate from our table onto his arms very methodically, to get every single plate in one trip without dropping any on the floor. My husband then walked toward the wine tasting room looking for a restroom. He did not ask anyone where the restroom was, he was just walking toward this particular area when one of the friendly staff said to him "It is kind of weird that everyone thinks this is the bathroom up here, don't you think?" Is it me, or is that incredibly rude? WILDFIRE-GET OVER YOURSELVES AND SERVE SOME REAL FOOD, THEN MAYBE YOU CAN EARN THE RIGHT TO SERVE IT WITH AN ATTITUDE. PS- We still tipped our server 18%. Why should he be punished for your hostess playing mind games, your high prices for canned and overcooked food, your chef serving a filet on a piece of bread, your bus boy practicing his hand in Jenga with our dirty plates, and your other unknown employee randomly spouting off at guests who appear to be looking for a restroom? His tip would have been 20%; however, he brought out my husband's salad after he brought out his steak and he did serve the yellow broccoli when he could have asked the chef to remake the side dish before serving such a thing to his guests. TIP: Having been a server in college, it is important to understand when you dine out that the server is the last person to see the food before it is served to the guest. Therefore, no matter how courteous and tentative the server is to your needs if the food does not look appealing, the server's tip should reflect how the plate of food looks even though you are well aware they did not cook the food. read more

In usual visits to wildfire we are greeted by the waiter or waitress, sometimes even mid taking off our coats. This time I could have updated my social media outlets, sent postcards to the in-laws in Florida...scheduled hair and nail appointments for the new year... but we did have a lot of good conversation, after 15 years of marriage we were close to running out ;) I kid, I kid. I asked if they had sangria, she asked for my ID. I took that as a yes. Hubby doesn't drink, So diet with a lemon. Long wait until the drinks and his drink came sans lemon. But she performed a magic trick and disappeared. Waiting. And waiting. She came back and we ordered a pretzel appetizer. Keep in mind. We knew our entire meal due to the long wait waiting to be greeted. Bread basket cake and I asked for lemon as nice as I could have for the drink that was half empty (or half full) and she said she was on her way to get that. Oh, really?! So she came back and we ordered. Food came out in a nice time. But the ribs didn't have a bowl for the bones. So. I asked and even though she had no idea the food was delivered as I stopped her for the bowl, she said she was on the way to get the bowl. Ugh. Just acknowledge the request and get it. We weren't going to let the lack of service or the tiny irritants ruin our night or his birthday. But the next thing made me uncomfortable. I ordered the special medallions. I had one medallion ready to be boxed and the busser came around with DIRTY dishes in his hand. He grabbed our dirty plates and pointed at my plate with my medallion, I said I would like it boxed. I noticed someone didn't finish their baked potato....again this dirty plate was next to my steak which was about to come home with me to be consumed by me with the image of dirty plates and old food. This was my first time dining here. I've driven by it and always wanted to go, just never had. Well I finally went tonight and was not disappointed! If you're looking for a step up from something like an Outback but don't want to have the bill of going to somewhere like Gibsons, this is an excellent choice. The service was very quick and efficient. The server was knowledgeable and not pushy. He made some suggestions and gave a good description of the specials. We both ordered the French onion soup, a cup, which is probably an actual 8 oz serving, covered in melted cheese and a good sized piece of bread underneath. I had the New York strip, which I'd estimate to be about 14 oz, with minimal fat (yay!) My steak was cooked perfectly and was incredibly tender. It had a lot of flavor and was also served with a small bit of what I think was a beef broth on the plate. A nice touch to dip it in. I also had the au gratin potatoes. They were a fairly generous serving and also had good flavor. My boyfriend had the filet trio, which he was able to choose three different crusts. He enjoyed them all and had a hard time deciding which he liked the best. We also had a bottle of wine which was about 3 times more expensive than buying in a store, but the food itself is very reasonably priced for the quality and portions, so it makes up for it in my opinion. We didn't order dessert but the options looked delicious. The atmosphere is nice, it's not overly loud. The tables have adequate spacing so you don't feel like you're on top of the table next to you. The rooms have different names which I always find to be a neat touch. Overall it was a good dinner, I would definitely dine there again. One of the strangest wildfire experiences I've ever had. I made reservations for lunch because with wildfire you never know if there will be a wait or not. We were offered a booth or a table, we went with the table since we needed to accommodate a highchair. It took a solid 5mins for us to be greeted by our waitress. She took our drink order and brought corn bread. We aren't bread eaters, but my son loves bread rolls. He wasn't having the corn bread so when she came around again, I asked her for regular bread. She said she's going to go grab some and come back for our order. A few minutes went by and she dropped off the pumpernickel rolls and disappeared. Literally. She was gone for what felt like forever. She finally returns to take our order and assures me once the onion rolls are ready, she will bring them out. As promised, a gentleman brought out a fresh batch of rolls; nice and hot! I found it strange that our waitress didn't bring out any food, just took our order. A few minutes after food arrived, she came to check on us. Then, she did her magic trip again; disappeared. I had to ask someone to grab our waitress so we can get our check. If it was busy, then I understand the lack of attention, but it was probably no more than 30% occupancy!
