Amazing deli. The delicious Italian food is worth your money. The service is very quick and you don't have to wait long. And if you're not buying a meal and just snacks, it's very cheap. A pack of gum, bag of sunflower seeds, and an apple juice costs $4.50. The soups of the day are always good and the people working there are always nice. Five stars read more

Door dash from here. Banging banana bread and disco fires that deliver! Amazing chicken noodle soup. They always draw a smiley on my bag and make me happy. This is my family's go-to deli and catering option in the area! We tried Market Basket once and immediately went back to Wilkes! On a regular day, I usually go for their honey turkey melt or roast beef on a kaiser roll with butter and salt (especially if it's looking extra rare and juicy!) For catering, we love love love their fried chicken. The mini kaiser sandwich platter and wrap platter are also fantastic. The only thing we didn't love was their party sized Italian hero. I was in the area, I looked up deli's on google and this was the first option to pop up. I read the reviews and the place was rated 4.7/5 so of course I chose this spot. Parking was easy and no hassle. I walked inside, everyone had a mask on & standing 6ft from each other. Being it's my first time I didn't really know what to get. The people in that area were nice and didn't mind holding a mini conversation about what to get but they did say everything was good, so it made it a little harder. I ended up just getting a bacon egg & cheese sand which a little bit to much on the salt and pepper but other was it was good. I would like to try their sandwiches and wraps next. I also had the corn muffin and that was delightful. Staff was nice / area was clean ! Definitely recommend stopping in and giving it a shot ! I will definitely be coming back read more

I call in a bacon & egg sandwich at the local neighborhood Wilkes Deli in Mahwah on Forest Rd, because I have my dog with me in the car. My plan was to leave the car running, sweep in, pick up my order, pay & be on my way. The dude answering the phone tells me he has a full house, he'll fix my grub in the order as if I was on line, I was good with this. I'm in the parking lot 5 min later & out walks the dude who then hand delivers my sandwich! I have the nerve to ask for a coffee when he goes back in to run my card, he says no problem, anything for the pooch. He's back in a flash with my coffee, card & receipt and I'm on my way. Visited this deli after about 5 years of my first visit. Ordered the Italian Combo which was very good. the Meats were fresh, the staff was nice, and they were very generous with the ingredients. Sliced thin, and plenty. Its a small place so it can get busy real fast which means you might have to wait. The young gentleman who made my sandwich took his time and really looked like he cared about making a good lunch. The price is very affordable, and they had homemade iced tea which is delicious! Highly recommend to try if you never have before. It's on my rotation. *Beware- last visit I ordered a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes...only to find out half way through the sandwich was made, that they had run out of tomatoes. That's like a Japanese restaurant running out of rice. First time that has ever happened to me at any deli. - So I keep going back and it gets better and better. The reason being, is that this location still carries Onion Rolls, which all the other locations stopped doing. No single deli sells a better cut of Roast Beef than a Wilkes Deli. A Roast Beef sandwich with globs of Mayonnaise on an Onion Roll is how I fill my belly. read more

Have you ever been to a deli where they freshly slice tomato, onion, lettuce with EACH order? I hadn't. Until I went to Wilkes. Sure the line can be very long, but remember.... freshly sliced to-ma-to... They use good quality ingredients, and price is very reasonable. One downside is their sandwiches are huge, and will rapidly contribute to your demise. But they also have ready-made wraps that are half-size. (and practically half-price) Remember... freshly sliced onion and lettuce with each order. I mean, who does that these days?! If I owned a deli and my employees did that, I'd fire them all for working inefficiently. But as a customer, I love their attention to detail. Sandwiches are decent and everything is usually fresh. I go here a lot, and they only messed up my order once (forgot the mayo- but that's a deal breaker for me) but it was also the only time I ever called ahead to order my food so maybe that had something to do with it. Prices are decent and staff is generally pleasant, except the guy who works there (maybe 40ish) who I believe may be the owner, is not overly friendly he is just blah. Once I got bad lettuce I think, which ruined the taste of the sandwich but after I scrapped it off it was ok. They do have the best homemade macaroni salad though. They dont accept credit cards at all which is terrible & they always have a jar out for a heat fund, which makes me think the owner is super cheap since he doesnt want to turn the heat up or pay the fees to accept credit cards. This place has been around forever though and I've been going for years and will continue to go here. read more

I have a problem with the man who works at Wilkes in Mahwah in the mornings. I am pretty sure he is the owner. He never wears gloves!!
