Avoid meatloaf and pizza. Dog food and glorified cheese bread. No home made lemonade.

When my wife called to make a reservation, she made it a point of telling the woman she spoke with (Chef Meseret) that it would be our anniversary, and that wasn't even acknowledged at any point during our meal, even though they recognized another customer's birthday. The meal itself was fine, but not exceptional, from oyster appetizer to crab cake entrée to cheesecake dessert. Everything was more or less good until the meal was finished. The waiter asked us if we wanted "to review your charges", which we thought was odd, since we figured we'd just get the check. Instead of that, the guy came over with an iPad and showed us the charges. In addition to the fixed price meal ($80 per person) we ordered two cocktails ($28 total) and a bottle of wine ($52), and then they had the nerve to charge us another $16 for an alcohol service fee. WHAT?!?! You can bet that they made plenty of markup on both the wine and the cocktails, but to charge us to serve it too...WTF?! I questioned the guy about the charge, and his answer was "I don't know, I just do what I'm told". As if that wasn't bad enough, he then put us on the spot and asked if we wanted to add a tip, and how much? What an annoying end to an otherwise fairly pleasant meal. All told, the tab was over three hundred bucks. Totally not worth it. While we were eating, we discussed the possibility of staying at Hope & Glory for a future visit to the area, but after getting nickled and dimed for a service fee, they're not getting any more money from us.

If you're spending a day on Virginia's Eastern Shore, Cape Charles Brewing Company is absolutely…read moreworth a stop. We popped in for a casual beer break, and it quickly turned into one of the highlights of the day. The space itself is gorgeous! It's open, airy and designed with a laid-back coastal vibe that fits Cape Charles perfectly. You order both beer and food inside at the counter, which keeps things easy and low- key. I went with the Pilsner, and it was exactly what I wanted, perfect after a day out exploring. Their beer list has something for everyone, whether you're into lighter options or something with a bit more depth. We didn't order food this time, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked incredible. They've got plenty of options like burgers, nachos, and other brewery favorites that definitely seemed worth trying next time. What really stood out was the atmosphere. There was so much going on in the best way. They had a dog adoption event happening outside while we were there, which added such a fun, community-driven vibe. They also host live music and other events regularly, so it feels like there's always something to check out. The outdoor space is huge and perfect if you're with a group or bringing kids. There's a fire pit, games like cornhole, and plenty of room to spread out and hang for a while. Definitely the kind of place you plan to stop at for one drink and end up staying much longer. I will be adding this to my must visit list anytime I'm on the Eastern Shore.

So, a burger costs $18 and comes with fries…read more A side of Fries alone is $7. A side of onion rings is $8. However, if you want to substitute onion rings instead of fries it will cost you $8 extra, making it a $26 meal. So really you're just buying a side of onion rings and also not getting the fries. This is not a substitution. This is buying more and getting less. Please tell me how this makes any sense!?!? I gave quite a bit of push back along with some real life number crunching... but the employee could not seem to understand the lack of logic that, based on their menu prices, an onion ring substitution should be more like $1, and not $8. This is adding 45% to the cost of the meal which is absurd. This is not a surcharge, it's just buying onion rings and also not getting the fires that come with the meal. I wasn't going to pay $26 for a burger, so got the fries which were actually amazing, but not what I wanted... and the burger just was okay... but I can't seem to get over their lack of understanding that this makes no sense. Just write no substitutions if you don't want to bother catering to your customers! I was a tourist heading home from a mini vacation and REALLY craving onion rings, this venue made me super grumpy for no good reason except stubbornness and lack of math skills and reasoning and customer service. Not impressed.

We had great conversation and service all evening with the bartender. This spot is definitely more of a pub type place. Food is American bar food with a coastal flair. I got the potato skins and my husband got some fried fish. They were both good but nothing to call home about. The bartender also came up with some pretty good drink options, I was surprised because I expected a standard bar with well drinks but she definitely experimented and had some great menu options to choose from. We walked down to the water for the sunset and enjoyed their little beach, it was a perfect nightcap. Great little spot in the area!

This is a sizable restaurant able to accommodate large parties with indoor and outdoor seating. Service was very attentive and staff very friendly. There is a big selection of food from seafood to burgers, pasta, pizza, bbq, salads, steaks, soups, and always specials of some sort- if your not sure what you want or your party can't decide (and even if you can) then this is your place because there is something here for everyone We have tried a bit of everything across the menu and didn't have a dish we didn't like. In fact I was surprised at how good they were given the variety. Add to that, that this is scratch cooking it makes it a bit more special. I particularly like that the restaurant makes note and practices using less salt to support its patrons health. I didn't find anything bland and certainly not anything over salted either. The restaurant offers a big beer list with many craft and micro brews along with full bar and wines. We tried the lemon cello cake for dessert and thought it was spot on- well balanced and not too sweet. Live music at times- check the web for who and when. A fun place to eat at and the food very much compliments to the fun. Definitely worth your try for a laid back restaurant experience with options for everyone. As a cafe, Willabys is a solid choice at 4+ stars in my opinion. Happy eating!
