Many boaters, some swimmers (with designated areas and beaches even), some fishermen, and hikers scattered this area of Arkansas just outside of Hot Springs. It was fairly hot when we went, but still good fun and beautiful scenery. If time had permitted, I would have liked to take my daughters to Three Sisters Springs and other places. We instead stayed at Echo Canyon which is not technically part of the state park, but exists on Lake Ouachita.

The cave system here has numerous places for exploration. The hiking trails are well-maintained and offer wonderful exploration opportunities, including to waterfalls, water features plus high vantage points with a great view looking out over the scenery below. All of this is offered to the Ozark Mountains and free of charge, as the state parks offer visits for free sponsored by the state of Arkansas. This is a favorite place of ours to go, and we come at least once a year - usually in the spring and often times we will come a second or third time during the year in the fall too. For those who enjoy the great outdoors, this is not a place to be missed.

A sign update is definitely needed but this was during the government shutdown so I'm sure that wasn't available. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked, trails were in excellent shape, trash cans were pretty full due to all the people but not overflowing. If you can make it on a week day it would be a lot easier to find parking. This is an Oklahoma must do!

They have a carnival and inflatables for kids too. But this state park itself is one of my favorites. I've been going since I was a child, and the lake is so beautiful. I love to rent a paddleboat! They have yurts to rent, putt putt golf, and a snow cone/coffee stand that has become better and better over the years. The lookout kitchen is finally open after that whole debacle with the state, but I need to go back and try it. The building is beautiful though and right in the water. We've camped here in our RV too, and the spots are spacious, quiet, and very woodsy. It's always fun to hike up to the cave too. The history of this area is so cool. The trails are great, and there are options for ability levels. I always go green or yellow. You can often find people rappelling too! Definitely give this state park a try.

Bald eagles are easy to spot in the area and the state park offers a marina tour that takes guests out in season to not only take a tour around the lake and learn about the history and the beauty of the area, but also observe the wildlife and the birds naturally live in this area. We planned our July 4th trip back in March with another family, just like we did last year. We…read morespecifically reserved RV sites next to each other so we could camp together. When we checked in, our sites had been changed. We were told they wouldn't move us back because one of the two reservations hadn't paid the $40 "lock-in" fee. I even offered to pay the fee at check-in so we could get our original sites back, but they refused. To make matters worse, the sites we originally reserved ended up sitting empty half our stay with no RVs in them. The front desk experience only made things worse. As we calmly expressed our disappointment and tried to explore whether there was any way to move us back to our reserved sites, the employee accused us of "raising heck." She then abruptly asked if we wanted a refund rather than trying to help resolve the situation. The interaction came across as rude and dismissive, and there was very little effort made to provide good customer service. I've been coming to Marval since I was a kid, and it's always been one of my favorite places to camp. That's what made this experience so disappointing. I'm not sure if there's new ownership or a change in management, but it feels like the focus has shifted toward nickel-and-diming customers instead of providing the great customer service Marval used to be known for. I hope this was just an isolated experience, but after reading other reviews it seems to be a constant problem.

Those are taken. It's far away both good and bad. If you Forgot something or need to get a part for your buggy . It's a wasted 1/2 day in my opinion. So bring whatever you think you need and maybe some spare parts. I recommend a filter for your RV water intake because it can be very murky. The restaurant serves good food. The sights are amazing. Most guests are very friendly and welcoming. Sometimes it can get rowdy on the weekends. Forest service prays on out of towners that get on the wrong trails so get a map! It's all about making the best memories possible.
