I came in with a complicated online transaction that needed hands on help, and Peggy went above and beyond. She took the time to sort through the details with me, and even continued working on the issue the next day, communicating with billing on my behalf to make sure everything was processed correctly. To be fair, the driver for this complaint is that I received a gift and didn't use it for almost a year. That said, when I opened the sealed package several small pieces were missing. When I contacted customer service I was told that they have a 30 day return policy. It's probably on the receipt that my benefactor has, but even so this seems ridiculously narrow for a company that purports to deal in high quality culinary equipment. I went to the store because I had fond nostalgic memories of haunting the place about 25 years ago. Back then they had great customer service, they gave me the most awesome cooking advice, there were no high-pressure sales tactics. In fact, one of the staff, told me not to buy the super high-end all clad nonstick skillet I had my eye on because the Lodge cast-iron would do a better job. She then sent me to Walmart because Williams-Sonoma did not stock Lodge back then. They had an adorable little clearance corner filled with useful kitchen items, great for someone just starting her kitchen. Back then, they had sales. It has always been the most beautiful store. How things have changed. The store is a great place to go check out super high-end kitchen items. However, the prices are kind of unrelenting. It's great to be able to pick up a pot and decide, holy smoke, I can't lift this thing. Scratch that dreamy pot off my shopping list. Their line of cutlery is stocked with some solid classics and also some interesting new and upcoming lines hopefully tomorrow's top knives. I've purchased almost all my decent kitchen knives from this store. But back then they had sales. I got a great knife set there on a really impressive sale. I wish they had some more demos. Honestly, I don't understand why someone might spend $2000 on an appliance before they had a chance to see it in action. The store is definitely a great place to check out items that are just starting their fashion cycle. For those of you who insist on getting the newest latest gadgets, this is your store. You know not all of Williams Sonoma is stocked with outrageously expensive items. I purchased the oddest little assortment of kitchen utensils from Williams Sonoma over the years. I still have two great little spatulas, a wine opener, a kitchen timer, an oxo vegetable peeler, a can opener. Their parchment paper was to die for. The prices were not out of line. I like their Apilco china. They are sturdy pieces, although I did manage to break them after a decade in service. The present Williams Sonoma was ever so faintly a disappointment. Gone are the interesting clearance items. There wasn't a sale in sight. The cookbook section failed to impress me. I have no faith in celebrities who think they are chefs. There were a few classic cookbooks which I respected. There were a few newer cookbooks from trusted chefs. The book section seem to be more about fashion than cooking. Overall, the store seems to be more of a showcase for their mail order. Although that was a bit hard to tell because I was just window shopping., customer service was very attentive. As always, I was greeted at the door and several staffers came to check up on me to make sure I was finding everything all right just like the old days. I have tried a few of their expendable supplies. I found their hand lotion and soap were heavily fragrant. although the scent was nice, the fragrance was so strong that I didn't like it. But then I don't like heavily scented products. I have tried a limited number of their edible offerings. They were delicious, but the price was so high. I couldn't make a habit of buying them. I want to report on something horrific I noticed the last time I was in the store. They have some clearance food items. I noticed that one of them was a box of Cartwright and Butler savory crackers, that had expired in march (and it was now mid August!). I thought for sure my eyes were deceiving me, so I took it up to a sales associate and inquired if it had been mislabeled. Much to my shock, she answered me with a straight face that there was no mistake; that's why it was on sale. I was like, "You are kidding me right?!" You're telling me that you're willingly and knowingly selling a product that is 5 months past its expiration date and THATS why it's on sale? I wish I had documented all of this because it is just hard to believe a bougie brand like Williams Sonoma would resort to such cheap tactics. Blah. Anyways, shoppers beware. I like coming here and browsing the selection of kitchen accessories and gadgets they have. So far we bought a toaster and a food processor and liked that they take some time to explain things and don't try to push you to buy a higher priced product. They offer help, but also let you check out things on your own. Getting things to the register from storage is also pretty fast. read more

The store manager is a bit of a grinch -- she denied my return of a pan due to some light water spots on the bottom (I had lightly washed it, but didn't cook with it). Fair enough -- I'd at least appreciate the courtesy of being told nicely or somewhat apologetic about it. Instead I got some borderline crass and snarky remarks. Another 1-star review to add to the many already listed here. I visited the Stanford Shopping Center store near Palo Alto, California, to purchase some Fortnum and Mason tea. The particular tea I was seeking happened to be out of stock, even though they had the other tea flavors. I asked if they could order this item for me, and 2 different sales agents indicated that they could not order it on my behalf and that I could go home and place the order myself online and pay for shipping. I have never heard of a retailer refusing to order a standard item that happened to be out of stock. I was willing to pay for the item in advance and have them ship it to the store for me to pick up, but that was not an option either. I later called Williams Sonoma customer service, and the agent agreed that it was their policy not to pay for shipping on an out-of-stock item, even if shipped and picked up at the store, but was sympathetic to my situation. I told the agent that I had subsequently discovered the same tea was available at both Nordstrom's and Amazon. I asked the customer service agent if she, personally, was ever told by any retailer, Target, Walmart, Nordstroms, etc., to go home and order it themselves, and she could not recall ever being told that by a retailer and understood that this was a poor policy by WS and would forward this suggestion to upper management. Purchases two chef knives with monogramming as gifts . The knife boxes were torn, with tape holding them together . Sale person suggested I "re box" them since they were a gift . Seriously ?? I should have listened to my friend from Los Altos who advised me to stay away. I made a large purchase on June 2024 for a new remodeled house we moved in. Open packages on August 2024, Vitamin was creating short circuit ( while the new toaster and air fryer we bought from them works well). This is about Z10 Jura coffee machine not the store! I brought this machine about 5 years ago and have enjoyed great coffee ever since. I can make many different hot and cold drinks and it's been a truly exceptional machine day in and day out. I mostly drink cappuccinos and my wife regular coffee and we normally have 2 cups a day each and I think the price tag on this machine was 3999.00 plus tax I believe and when I got it for a birthday present I was in shock the cost BUT it's was truly worth every penny. I think paying that much was a blessing in disguise really. Over the last 5 years I think we have actually saved at least 4k more than the cost for all the extras and the coffee I get from mountain thunder coffee in Kona. They have many models and the Z10 can do almost anything including cold brew coffee too. When I need hot water I use the machine and before u can turn on stove it's there in a cup. While there's nothing wrong with this store, I don't love the taupe color of the Balmuda toaster that I bought here and I can't exchange it for the white color after thirty days (I haven't even used it yet because it's just a backup toaster for my existing Balmuda toaster if it ever breaks down). The toaster works well but Balmuda offers an extended warranty through a third party with very poor reviews. If it weren't a $300 toaster, I would give the taupe one to Goodwill and buy another white toaster. read more

My introduction to Williams-Sonoma at the Stanford Shopping Center in Palo Alto was when I ordered an item for a friend's bridal shower months ago. Despite calling ahead a couple of hours in advance and specifically requesting that the item be gift-wrapped and ready for pick-up at noon, I was disappointed with the service I received; I had to scramble to pick up the item in time before the event, and I'd called ahead to confirm it would be ready and wrapped before noon. However, when I arrived at the store at 12PM, the item was not wrapped as the person I spoke with over the phone had assured me that it would be. She hadn't spoken with the front staff, who started getting the gift wrap ready when I arrived at the store that day. As a result I had to wait for an hour, which made me late for the bridal shower. Given the price point of the item (a $50 bucket for ice cream) and the fact that I had called ahead of time to ensure it would be gift-wrapped, I was disappointed with the lack of timely service/teamwork and communication between members of the team. Williams-Sonoma is well known for its quality kitchen and home goods, and the store at the Stanford Shopping Center (I learned while waiting that day) offers a wide range of kitchen and home appliances and condiments. They have a variety of cookware, bakeware, kitchen tools, and home decor items. The store is well-stocked and has a pleasant ambiance. While I was frustrated with the service I received during my visit, I can see the appeal, and thought that a lot of the items were unique and, for clientele in the area with the money to burn, worth buying. My experience at this location was disappointing. Despite calling ahead and making a request for gift-wrapping, the item was not ready as promised, causing a delay and inconvenience. I expected better service and attention to detail, especially considering the premium prices of the items. Still, it's a good place to stop in and peruse items fitting a dream kitchen. The ice cream maker was particularly spectacular. BEAUTIFUL!!! Located in the "Outdoor" Stanford mall. Walking by I was enticed by a great "holiday" smell. Happily I walked in and perused the VERY OVER PRICED store. No way could I or would I buy something from here. I can't believe they can stay in business. Avoid buying from Williams Sonoma because they have changed their return policy to be extremely unfriendly to consumers. They used to be very open to returns especially if never used and even if only 10 days after the purchase. Unfortunately they bizarrely changed their return policy. It is important to note that PRIOR to this experience, I have been a very longtime loyal customer of Williams Sonoma--and they managed to destroy my loyalty to them all over an $80 unused, brand new item that they refused to accept as a return because we were literally just "a few days outside their return window." I bought a very expensive Traeger grill from Williams Sonoma, along with a separate Pellet Sensor accessory costing $80. They refused to accept as a return the brand new, unused Pellet Sensor accessory. Very bizarre. Recommend to buy from Sur la Table or from a BBQ shop instead. If Williams Sonoma improves their Refund policy, I'll update my review here. I also received an odd response from them when I told them that because of this really poor return policy, I mentioned to them that I will be forced to warn customers away from Williams Sonoma, and her response was "feel free to do as you must!" Wow--clearly something has gone VERY wrong at Williams Sonoma. Customer Service used to matter here, but apparently not anymore.... Don't buy any BBQ products from this shop. I have always loved Stanford. In fact as a kid, I worked in the mall back in the day. So after the Valley Fair WS tried calling Stanford to double check on an item, that showed inventory. I've learned especially during the month of December to double check by calling. In the past years, I've relied on "I show inventory and/or I'll hold for you", I've been disappointed with dozens of reasons. So with the valley Fair WS calling AND receiving NO answer after a few tries in front of me, I decided to call myself that day and the following day. I, also, received no one answering. Service is not just in person contact while in the store. It's also online and via a telephone. But to no avail, the Stanford WS needs to improve in all facets of customer service or guest services or consumer services or shopper services. The only response i ever got was when I posted on William Sonoma's instagram and someone PM me "please send your order number and someone will contact you." No one! I have talked to 7-8 customer service representatives. Each one had different information about what happened to my order and said whatever I was told by the previous representative was wrong. After I insisted on speaking to a supervisor, Lisa Hoops assured me that she would be personally monitoring my order and giving me updates. But Ms Hoops has since being MIA, not responding to my emails or phone calls. After the last attempted delivery on January 6 of another incomplete order, a customer service agent filed an official claim for me and assured me that someone will contact me within 24 hours. It's been two weeks - no contact and no reply to my inquiry! It's unbelievable the level of lack of services and lack of responsibility since July 2023! But tonight I came in and my young son picked up a $1.25 wooden spoon and the saleswoman with dark hair asked us to leave. She said he was getting the spoon dirty. If you have kids and they like to cook, look no further because aprons, spatulas (Cookie Monster / Elmo) are at 25% off. Canisters of hot chocolate will whisper in your ear to make you want to buy one (salted caramel hot chocolate and peppermint hot chocolate). Hot chocolates come pre-wrapped in clear cellophane as well as pre-mixed cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and whoopie pies can be given as a gift that just about anyone that loves to be in the kitchen will surely appreciate. This store is the higher end Sur la Table. Sure this place is expensive but you are paying for quality, not quantity. After your shopping spree, make sure to stop by La Baguette for their ham and Swiss parisian sandwich and their French onion soup which is my favorite soup of all time. read more

I got the dubious distinction of being the last person in line before the employees got their signings and chatted with a good amount of the staff for a while. I have had some problems in the past but this year for Thanksgiving, I ordered their entire meal. Because of health issues, I had to keep things easy. I received everything but the TURKEY! When I didn't get it the day before Thanksgiving, I called to see if I needed to run to the store to attempt a last minute effort while I still had the time. I was told it was coming as late as 11:30pm that night. It never came and of course it was too late to do anything about it the next day. Had a bad experience, came on Friday 8/19 @4:30 was "helped" by a younger female and an older one. I asked them over the counter if they were busy and thenolfer one said ask her as she points to the younger worker because it looked like she was looking something up on the computer. I asked the younger associate if they had jiggers, and then she didn't answer because she looked confused so I clarified and said they were for bartending. And the older one chimed in and said "if we had any itd be in that corner" while pointing and still looking at her computer screen. And I thanked her and went to the area she was kinda pointing at and was not successful. She just came off rude and unavailable which was fine if she asked me to wait to assist me I would've been fine with that.or offer to help me look it up online when she was done looking at the screen would've been more helpful. read more

The good news is that I really enjoy the absurdities of life. The bad news is that Williams Sonoma is scamming their customers. Several years ago and several thousand $'s ago, I signed up for their rewards program at the Stanford Shopping Center store. They got my email and whatever else they required; I was to get several % of rewards back on my purchases. I know the registration "took" in their system as I have been bombarded by nearly daily emails marketing their wares and also have been able to make my numerous purchases by giving the sales person my phone number, resulting in an emailed receipt. Several months ago after a purchase, I asked what is the status of my rewards balance. We can't check that here was the reply. I let it slide but bought something again two days ago. I asked the same question and go the same response at the store. Today, I followed up by calling what WS laughably refers to as customer support. The agent told me that I had no purchases on rewards account and no rewards for me (I loved that Seinfeld episode). I indicated that this was a scam and a waste of my time. The agent hung up on me. The next agent felt my pain and tried to get a manager. After 30 minutes she said no one was available. She was nice and offered to call me back when a supervisor came available. Lo and behold, the agent called me back in half an hour. Her message, "The supervisor will not take your call because you have no rewards!" The agent understood that this was the reason for my concern. The agent understood that my purchases had to be in their system because WS sent my emailed receipts through their system. She actually told me that she would request an accounting. Just exactly how much of my time am I supposed to waste to get what might be a $50 discount? How long are we, the customers of William Sonoma, supposed to sit still for a scam? SheeShee stores are not always above scams and hoaxes and abuse. read more

Only one choice: generic decaf. Apparently WS doesn't consider decaf drinkers to have well enough developed taste to need choices. Mentioned that the recyclable caffeinated pods smelled and tasted like day old grounds. The associate proceeded to try to sell me a $1400 machine. What can I say? Williams Sonoma is quite possibly my favorite store at the Stanford Shopping Mall, and is always my go-to for kitchen equipment, silverware and dinner table essentials. They are on the pricier end for kitchen supplies, but offers the newest and best quality equipment for both home and professional cook. This location, in particular, is my favorite for their service, supply stock, and organization. I like that it's not too crammed, and displays are well kept. I have purchased nearly all of cookware here, prior to getting married and used them for our wedding registry. If you're looking for a dinner service set, look no further. I absolutely love their Aplico sets for the designs' clean elegance, and sturdy material combined with lightness. I think I've dropped a few of a my places either in the kitchen sink (and even floor, once), and to amazement, they did not shatter. I've had them for over 3 years now, and they're still wonderful to use. The glassware collection is varies as well, depending on your taste for heavier vs. lighter glassware. I am a big fan of Riedel, and I have purchased all of my wine glasses here. Their cocktail glassware are also quite beautiful, especially their champagne coupe (vs. flute). They also have the latest Le Creuset colors and upgraded designs, both as sets and individual pots. Their Staub collection is a bit bigger than Sur La Table, if you prefer Staub's cast iron enamels. When it comes to kitchen equipment, they have the best available options here. Each appliance, pot, pan, and tableware I've gotten are sitll in excellent condition, easy to maintain and use. Shipping is a on the expensive side, but they make picking up items at the store very easy. I do this whenever I find a great deal on their website. Otherwise, shipping can usually be free with their latest promotional deal. Holidays shopping can be crazy at this store, so I usually do my shopping online and pick up at the store. This will save you the stress and give you more options than what might be in stock. read more

This store is way bigger than the one in Valley Fair in San Jose. It's pretty on the outside and maybe they expect only a certain demographic to buy their products. I went in here on Saturday afternoon and I like that the blonde woman at the front of the store was watching me and my boyfriend on the way out like a hawk like she hasn't seen anyone with black hair in her whole life even though she lives in the Bay Area. read more

I came by this store while I was with my friends in the shopping center, and the service is pretty nice. The staff there are very friendly, and the store here is really large, with a lot of selection. The interior is really nice, and it has a really nice vibe, and looks pretty. read more

I've never had such a horrible customer experience before. I was trying to return a gifted William Sonoma baking pan for store credit since I wasn't given a receipt and the manager rudely refused my request for a refund. When I asked for further clarification, she said it was to prevent theft. The tone she used was condescending and accusatory, implying that I was trying to return a stolen pan. A nearby customer came to my defense and was shocked to hear that we weren't even able to get store credit for a clearly marked William Sonoma product. What I thought would have been a simple and reasonable return turned into an embarrassing and accusational experience. Buyers beware: never shop here, especially for gifts.
