This review is very limited to one aspect of this business. Generally Williams Sonoma has very high-end quality merchandise. Where they fail is in their towels. Their Williams Sonoma towels cannot be kept clean. It's impossible. I have bleached them used high-quality detergents, spot Removers anything I can but they still come out spotting and dirty. There is no possibility of keeping these towels clean and for the expense they're just not worth it. You might be able to see in the pictures the dirt smudges, or the yellowing and this is after bleaching the towels using variety of detergents, using spot removers, using anything I can to try and get them White again. Frankly, target has better towles than Williams Sonoma and for the price. It's unforgivable that they have these in their store. The label indicates they are made in Turkey. Frankly, given the quality I thought they were made in China. Do not buy these towels I don't care what the promotion is it's just not worth it. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE. it's Williams Sonoma. Your associates behave like they are servicing the royal family. I wasn't expecting the red carpet, but a little friendly service would have been nice. We purchased a gift for a friend's wedding. The person checking us out had a problem understanding what a wedding registry was. After explaining it to her, she didn't understand how to ring us up. We were in there for 45 minutes, 30 minutes of it trying to check out. Had I bought it online with their speedy delivery they advertise on their site, the couple would have received it with in 2 weeks, which's is not speedy. Disappointed to say the least. read more

We stopped by to use our $1,000 gift card and were so offput by a sales person named Debra that we wound up leaving without buying anything at all. In the span of us being there for 20 minutes, she came up to us 5 times. When we asked her to just let us shop in peace and we'd come find her if we needed any help, she very rudely said, "oh I see you're professional shoppers" as she walked off. I enjoy the Williams-Sonoma brand of stores. The stores are always well-curated with the best of the best in terms of kitchenware and appliances. They always have quality name brands. It's one of the best stores for people who love to both cook and entertain! Lots of cute stuff to celebrate every holiday and season too! One thing I really love about Williams-Sonoma is their own brand of products. They always have beautiful designs that catch my eye and whose integrity I trust. The gourmet mixes and treats are delicious and make great gifts. And, of course, you can't get the Williams-Sonoma branded items elsewhere! This particular store is on the smaller side. I actually came in for some kitchen gloves I saw online but they did not have them in stock at this store. Not a big deal because I was in the area anyways and I just like browsing this store regardless. However, I do suggest making a phone call if there is a particular item you are looking for. The shop is on Montana Avenue which has lots of other shops and restaurants within walking distance. Street parking is available but do note that it can get busy at times. I love having a store within walking distance of my home. It's great to be able to touch and hold items before deciding to buy. The mediocre review is based on the quality of some items and the return policy. I have bought several stackable glass containers. Several of the plastic lids cracked within months of buying them. The store would not exchange the item without a receipt (with their loyalty program they should be able to see i bought it, i have to give my phone number each time i buy something). I was told they could not exchange the item. However, they encouraged me to contact the manufacturer, "Hold Everything". THIS IS A WARNING AS TO THE MORALITY AND ETHICS OF THOSE MANAGING THIS STORE. I apologize for the lengthly description but it is necessary. I went to be interviewed for a job on 10/12. I arrived on time at 1:00pm and Jennifer (store manager) was on the phone. I waited patiently for about 25 minutes when finally the assistant manager, Eric, sat me down. I immediately felt something was up as Eric seemed completly uninterested and the questions asked were pretty lame. Jennifer was lurking in the background when I said "this doesn't feel like an interview, what's going on? Jennifer then shouted (in front of customers) that I had been rude and argumentative and she had no intention of interviewing or hiring me. I was flabergasted as the only contact I had with her was informing her that I could not find a parking space (Sunday in Santa Monica - very crowded) and might have to reschedule. She then told me to park in the back of the store. I made a very casual remark saying OH, I wish I had known about the parking beforehand." I guess that comment hurt her ego as the rest of the story and the way I was treated is unimaginable to any professional person in retail sales. So, she intentionally had me wait 25 minutes while she was on the phone, had me sit down for a "fake" interview knowing all along she was not going to hire me. Her behavior was unprofessional, mean, vindictive and immature. I was there for over an hour by the time I left. Honestly, I felt like a dodged a bullet. I need to explain my past history with Eric: I had worked at WS many years ago (in Los Angeles) with Eric and had a bad experience with him then. I had asked him for help when another salesperson decided to ring up two customers that I had been working with - the policy is that whichever sales person helped a customer that sales person rings the customer(s) up at the register. The person who rang "my" customers up never even bothered to ask if anyone had helped them. At that time we were "scored" on our sales numbers. I did approach the other sales person at the register who basically ignored me. When I asked Eric for help he did NOTHING. Shrugged his shoulders. At that point I left saying I no longer wanted to work there. To me it boiled down to ethics. I could not continue working in an unsupported environment. So, during my "fake" interview with Eric he actually brought that incident up - really? After 10 years?? And he had obviously told Jennifer only his version of the story. Together they decided not to interview me yet intentionally had me there for an hour waiting. Was I being punished like a child? WOULD YOU REALLY WANT TO WORK WITH/FOR THESE PEOPLE? - two seemingly controlling personalities with fragile egos who would stoop to such a level to "punish" me? read more

I had one of the worst shopping experiences at the Williams Sonoma in Santa Monica. From the moment I walked in, the staff completely ignored me when I needed help. When I went up to the counter to pay, the cashier was rude, dismissive, and wouldn't even say goodbye. As a person of color, I couldn't help but notice that all the staff were white, and the way I was treated made me feel unwelcome and looked down on. I left the store feeling disrespected and singled out. No customer should be treated this way. I am a loyal customer of Williams Sonoma. BUT, a mug I bought from them broke while in my hand. No one returns the ones that break when dropped on the floor, but this one broke by merely holding it. Turns out, neither the store, nor the company honors nor supports the products they sell. If it breaks after 31 days of ownership because of FAULTY MANUFACTURING, it is a "buy at your own risk" policy. No support, no replacement, no standing behind their products. So for all of you who thought they supported what they sell--considering buying elsewhere, especially newlyweds buying in bulk --essentially BUYER BEWARE. The remodel is great and they are stocking better products, but 2 stars because the staff is as difficult as ever. I witnessed a man try to exchange an expensive coffee machine that he purchased 9 days before. He said it leaked immediately and he had his receipt. Thank goodness for this store in the neighborhood! I've been coming here since it opened- so great for picking up last minute gifts and hostess gifts, all the accessory kitchen needs, etc. I've gotten all my pots and pans here over the years, one-by-one, as I could afford them. I am not a big housewares shopper but I needed new everyday dishes that would hold up against my family, so dishwasher safe, microwave and freezer safe as well. Customer service is extraordinarily horrible. I was locked into an expensive purchase for outdoor furniture. Rewards were denied me due to an employee not informing me of payment options. I can cancel my purchase but must pay for shipping. Customers are not a priority but profit for Williams and Sonoma is. I didn't want to add another poor review however my experience here today was unfortunate as I was trying to make a return. It was a gift I was returning and I was not aware that it was a sale item that could not be returned. One employee was rude and abrasive during the encounter and made it very clear that I would be unable to return it stating that there are "blaring notifications stating that a sale item cannot be returned" when I had to reiterate that I wasn't the one who purchased it in the first place. This store has great products and I'm more than happy to go back but to another location. I have had the most wonderful experiences at this WS store. A special acknowledgement of Jila and Dana. I have always been greeted and my selections put in a basket at the counter so I don't have to carry them around while I continue to browse. I am a Black customer and have never been followed or treated rudely. The help I've received in store has always led to me purchasing more. Now, I actually call ahead to see if Jila or Dana are in. Mixed emotions about this location. It's hot & cold. I registered at William Sonoma when I got married & was invited to do our "store to yourselves" scanning here which was a great experience. Then other times I go in and the staff is less than welcoming. Today they were great, helpful, cooking up a thanksgiving meal to sample, but they didn't have a pastry mat for pie crusts. It's a few weeks before thanksgiving & they didn't have any in stock! Bummer! Regardless the location is always immaculately clean. They're quite knowledgeable on ideas and are usually cooking up samples. Their soap replacements are always well stocked. We had significant issues with a specific gift that we received off our registry. It was a marble plate that kept arriving with glue residue on the wooden attachment. Sometimes I'd go in to inquire and be greeted with rudeness or unhelpfulness when trying to determine the status. We had to exchange it 2x before it was right and it was repeatedly back ordered. I love William Sonoma and the quality of the products but I just wish the staff at this location was more consistent. That said, it's A-OK in my book read more

This store gave me a creepy vibe. I tried to be considerate and gracious but I couldn't put my finger on it enough to lead me here to Yelp and see if others had experienced this creepiness. I'll try to describe it. They feel unprepared, unfriendly, awkward, untrained, unable to help enough so you leave with a satisfactory feeling. I think I've gotten better help at most retail stores. Couldn't even find a box for a shower gift for a good brand of pots and pans--le crueset which features a very heavy line up. Imagine throwing out all the boxes these came in, so people walk away with these things in a paper bag. Oh and double bagging? Are we at a grocery store? I don't fault the salesperson. These are things that become standard practice for a good experience, set by a well trained manager, who is mentored by a rep from corporate office. Anyway, I also thought, and I don't want to be too mean, but walking in was overstuffed and cluttered. Nothing was presented very well. Like a junk yard clutter feeling. I am writing on behalf of my 80 year old parents whose treatment in the store today was disgraceful. They were in the store to buy pots, pans and other items they lost when their home was destroyed in the Palisades fire. The saleswoman repeatedly made comments suggesting they were selecting items that were she deemed were too expensive for them or somehow that they could not afford them. After they had selected items she offered, they did not ask, to give them a 20% discount as fire victims. However, she refused to honor the discount when they could not provide paperwork from FEMA confirming the loss. My father showed her evidence of their insurance claim and photos of the house but explained he could not provide FEMA paperwork as they are not eligible for FEMA assistance because they are insured. They ended up purchasing the items at full cost and left feeling ashamed and angry. I have been a life long customer at Williams Sonoma and have shopped several times at this location but no more. read more

Today I called ahead to see if some Halloween appetizer plates were in stock I was interested in - they were, and Jan very kindly offered to hold them for me till close. I rearranged my day to come and get these to be mindful of WS's hold policy, and drove nearly an hour to pick these up. When I arrived, the plates were there as promised - all good. However, when I asked to please use the restroom before my long drive back, I was snootily denied. "We don't allow customers to use our restroom". While I do understand this may be the case for someone just coming in off the street; I had driven an hour there to make a purchase and yes, the employee did know that as I shared that. Couldn't you do me the small courtesy of use of a restroom before a long drive back? She sent me across the street, where I had to make a purchase in order to use the restroom there. The employee treated me like I was too dirty or something for their bathroom (for the record, not that this should matter, but I was very nicely dressed and obviously clean). WS is considered a high-end store. Act like it. Offer true customer service. I've always been treated very well at all other locations, so this one is simply on Santa Monica. Thank you to Jan who was great; boo to the employee who couldn't apply some common sense to the situation and allow the courtesy of a restroom after a long drive to spend money in the store. read more

We couldn't figure out a solution so I came to this store. The store personel & managers could have said it wasn't their sale or business & left it at that. Called ahead to see if they had the item I needed, they did, so I went on in to pick up my hold. Nowhere to be found and none on the shelf. So they ordered it for me in the store, they even were able to look up my card as I had to use because I was using rewards points. It came to my home and had an imperfection from factory. I went into store to return and luckily they had another. Oh but I couldn't just exchange it because they referred to it as an online purchase. I have to wait to get my credit and for my points to be good again. Hopefully they don't expire by that day because it's close. So I guess I may go again without an official butter dish for company. I'm really not buying anything anymore. I've got plenty of William Sonoma items in my home's and I just don't need anymore. There's certainly not very accommodating to a customer, they are very accommodating if you have a lot of stuff to buy, but God forbid you, you have an issue. read more

I'm so sick and tired of shopping here. Williams Sonoma in general is a decent store as far as merchandise, but this location is atrocious because of their employees. I especially had an unpleasant experience with Kelly. She's very crabby, unfriendly, unhelpful and unknowledgeable. I believe management is too content with their hirings even though there are multiple complaints below. They do not want to make changes because it's too much trouble hiring new people. That is why disgruntled associates continue to stay on. Like they always say, if management is unprofessional/inefficient and dislike their job, it trickles down below. Had to update the review after the extraordinary treatment today; specifically by Stephanie, the assistant GM. After another store blundered a large order last year, she more than made up for it with her graciousness, kindness, and patience to ensure that things were sorted out to the best of her ability. While I continue to be saddened that the bra has fallen beneath where it started - there are fewer specials and sales as they state that everything is mostly controlled by the vendors... And the cost continue to be higher than it's comfortable for items such as a small box of chocolate toffee which now sent you back about $38. But the store itself is gorgeous, the smell alone walking in cheers the soul, All of the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and again the way that Stephanie handled everything truly reminded me why I remain loyal to this brand. Props to the stores manager who ensures that everybody that you encounter there is knowledgeable, warm, and welcoming. Definitely during this past year and a half at his bar aware and therefore former treasured. read more

Went back after lunch nearby and found some wonderful little dipping bowls with Italian city scenes, and some little rectangular appetizer trays with French city scenes. Bought all of the ones they had. This is such a small Williams Sonoma but if you look carefully you can find some real deals. One thing I don't get. This place has terrible customer service. Today I called just after six. One website said they were open until seven; another that they were closed until Friday. Someone picked up the phone and then immediately hung it up, rather than explaining that they were closed. I wasn't sure if it was a mistake so I rang again and they did the same thing. Rude and unprofessional. If they closed early because of the holiday, fine. But at an overpriced store like this the employees should not behave like teenage employees at an ice cream store so eager to close up that they can't be bothered. read more
