I really like Williams-Sonoma (SF Union Square is my favorite store EVER!), but today's experience was beyond miserable. It's great that they have people around to offer samples of apple cider, etc, but when it comes to actual useful customer service, these people sadly failed badly. My friend and I needed some help with two different salt/pepper grinders. We asked a lady behind the register, and she supposedly sent someone to "look into it." Well, it's a good thing I went shopping with a friend I hadn't seen in a few months and we needed to catch up with chatting, because I swear to you, it took nearly 15 minutes to find out if they had any of the pepper grinders in question. Of course the answer was no, even though the lady told us that it was most likely in the back and just had to be brought out. The worst part of it all was that the lady disappeared and we had no idea who to ask to check on the status. blah! read more

. Shopping at WS -Walnut Creek, CA store has been extremely disappointing. I have been to your store twice over the last month. Last night, my husband and I stopped to purchase Thanksgiving baking mix and ingredients. We were also looking for "cake pops" baking pans and the Breville Toaster Oven advertised in your Thanksgiving Mailing Catalog. The store was practically empty with 4 sales reps on the floor looking every business with heads down doing paperwork. My husband finally able to ask a rep regarding baking pans. The sales rep replied with real disdain, "Williams-Sonoma" would not carry THAT type of item and walked away. We were shocked and her rudeness. We then wondered back to the toaster ovens and did not find the advertised Breville. Another rep asked to help us. I explained about the advertised Breville. She looked around and not finding it and contacted the "backroom". We waited 10 minutes, she was helping other customers as I approached her she ignore me. Finally we asked another rep. He said he would check - but we saw him wondering around the store after a couple of minutes not working with any customers. I asked him again and was then told to go "on line" to get the dimension and information. I thought he was kidding - no. He was serious! We left. I love the Union Sq downtown store and this is also no exception. Definitely not the magnitude of the SF downtown store but definitely carry the same variety. The staff were handing out tasty peppermint chocolates and again the cookery and cutlery in this store amazes me! It's like a candy store for adults who cook or doesn't cook but just love looking at what the store has to offer. read more

My daughter had a wedding gift registry here. She had to return some items but was told the credit would be mailed to her in the form of gift cards. That was unusual but she said ok but then never received the cards. I followed up for her and it seems they were just never sent out and but for my call would never have been sent. She got the first few cards but not the rest. I again followed up and was told the same thing. Again, it sounded like they never would have been sent but for my phone calls. I don't know if this is purposeful but it was certainly odd. read more

Over the years we bought a lot of things from Williams Sonoma of Walnut Creek. We have always been impressed with the knowledge of the products they are selling. Manager I dealt with recently - Lisa - showed very little to none at all knowledge of the products I was interested in. She referred me to the manufacturer :) with my questions on the use of two of their products! I guess I can buy it on Amazon or on-line?! And to say that she was patient and gracious would be an understatement ( the store was empty). It even made the other sales person uncomfortable. I came in today to pick up an online purchase. Thought it would have been an easy swift transaction since it was already purchased and paid for. No one acknowledged me or asked if I needed help. I walked around the store for a few minutes looking for an employee. Saw only one, and she was with a customer, but I had to interrupt as I was on my lunch hr. So I politely interrupted, and told her that I had an online pickup. She asked me my name and what the item was, and then she called someone on her earbud thingy and asked them to bring it up to the front. After waiting another 10 min or so, I asked her if someone was bringing it. She very rudely said, "everyone's busy" and huffed away. I replied "so am I" and waited. Then she brought it up and handed it to me in a bag, asked me to sign. I signed the paper said thank you for your help and left. I will never ever shop with them again, very bad experience and very bad customer service. I hope the product I bought is ok and working, as I examined it when I got back to work, and the box is damaged all 4 corners. And the Williams-Sonoma back that she gave it to me in, is all dirty on the bottom with something stick and brown, and had a straw stuck to it at the bottom outside of the bag. :( Hopefully the product I purchased - Nespresso Milk Frother 4 is not damaged as I do not want to go back there to return it or ever again. This was a smaller location than what I'm used to seeing for a Williams Sonoma. I came here looking for a unique gift for a friend of mine who likes really spicy things. I wasn't able to find what I was looking for, but they did have a lot of little neat gadgets for around the kitchen. They were handing out free dixie cups of espresso this past Monday. Great selection of kitchen and dining equipment and accessories. Excellent, well informed and helpful staff. I bought a Cuisenart grind 'n' brew coffee pot here that stopped working a year later. I brought it in and they exchanged it (no receipt or proof of purchase), without question, right on the spot. It really makes sense to buy such items at a place like this, who will stand behind them. They have classy cookery stuff for sure - a prices to match the class. Fortunately, we can afford to splurge now and then and it's a great place to browse or target something specific - like the easy cleaning garlic press I wanted as my wife has me as a choppy-choppy assistant in the kitchen often. read more

My nephew, niece and I was at W.S on Saturday(6/16) for a cooking demo with Chef Terry Braggs. It was very enjoyable and tasty. Chef Braggs demo on Phillip's indoor grill which is a great indoor grill. He grilled chicken along with shrimp kebabs which were delicious plus with tomato, cucumber and onion salad with a wonderful lemon dressing and mini cornbread muffins. Chef Braggs is a delightful, entertaining and enthusiastic chef...my nephew said he wants to cook more after meeting Chef Braggs. Shout out to his assistant Hazel, culinary chef, for do a great job. read more

Staff were very helpful when I went in to return an online gift I already had. They arranged for me to use the online credit in the store and price matched the item I wished to purchase. Williams Sonoma corporate should better integrate the process for returning online purchases to physical stores but this is a corporate issue read more

I've been a customer with this company for about 30 years. I love to cook and most people would agree that I'm terry good, especially my family. My daughter and I stepped into this location yesterday only because online Father's Day purchase wouldn't get here in time. This store is understaffed, employees are cranky because theyre understaffed but most of all, they're stupid. They're stupid because they know better but do what they want anyway- and that would be to a cut the last customer off & leave them hanging so they can latch onto a new sale. My regular priced item was supposed to be wrapped- was not done and I had no more time to watch this 3 employee circus so I just took it because it took another 10 mins to find the sale price on the unmarked item I wanted! And forget advice on a pepper grinder- nobody grinds pepper, IF they cook there. Order online if you can and call customer service for advice. Don't feel bad if you don't go in here or make a purchase because these people are really lucky to get a paycheck for knowing NOTHING about cooking. I am writing this review based on an exceptional interaction with Nick today. He was extremely helpful and patient on the phone, and when I went into the store to pick up my stuff, he pointed out a small flaw on one of the items but got out barkeeper's friend and cleaned the spot to make sure that the mark came out. He wrapped all of my glass items very nicely and was very helpful with updating the wedding registry and making sure he called customer service for me to update my online order. You wouldn't understand where I am coming from unless you have color. I am so freakin tired of being treated differently because of my brown skin. I walk in Williams Sonoma with my brown family at the same time as 3 white women, the 3 white women get "Welcome ladies" with a big smile. We, on the other hand, were ignored. Whatever, not that big a deal, I am used to it, especially in walnut creek, where the employees seem to be getting snobbier and snobbier. I was looking at kitchen gadgets and had a question but no SA was around to help me, they were helping other less brown people who arrived much later than us and didn't appear to need help at all. And then, I tried to purchase 3 items and was holding my "get 10% off to finish your registry" card and the SA didn't know what to do with it. She calls over SEAN, and he huffs and tells me, "You should have told her first that you had that card before she rang everything up, it would have been easier." O f*&$ing really? It took him all of 10 seconds to void the items and rering them with the discount, and it appeared to me that she would have had to call him over anyway because she didn't even know what that card was. SEAN, perhaps you should do a better job training your employees rather than correcting your customer. I voiced my dissatisfaction of his tone and told him, "I don't see what the big deal was with correcting the transaction and at the Pleasanton store, I didn't even need my card." He said he didn't mean to insult me. Well SEAN, you didn't insult me but I certainly didn't appreciate the uncalled for tone. If I do decide to finish the rest of my registry, I will stick to the Pleasanton store, but I am losing faith in Williams Sonoma and their declining customer service, so perhaps I don't need anything else from there ever. read more

I always like the products at the WIlliams Sonoma stores, at least the actual cook ware, which is usually high quality. I'm generally not fond of the the table linens, however, which I find trite and not particulalry beautiful. I object to their prices generally and to the phony politeness and slightly snotty attitude of the Walnut Creek staff specifially, who also don't know much about the stock. read more

I went into this store the day before Christmas. The sale people were extremely non-helpful even though there were plenty around with nothing to do. I ended purchasing several items online instead as they offered "free shipping". What a joke! I was charged shipping and when I called their Customer Service number to see if the fee could be credited, the Customer Service rep, Kristen, said there was nothing she could do. Now, that is empowering your staff! Don't buy in the store - and don't bother buying from them online either. Poor customer service. read more

I have such mixed feelings as I type on this very keyboard. Williams Sonoma, a store I grow up eating stroganoff at, just kidding that was one time, is now a very flawed establishment. An establishment in which Beef Stroganoff is no longer. The public minds are awake as they struggle to comprehend how this injustice could take place in our peaceful city of Walnut Creek. Prices are incredible, and why why should I pay when I cannot receive my favorite delicacy. When I called to ask about such issues that I was experiencing, I received a sassy woman on the line (with an accent) who was not of any help or consolation in my difficult time. All I needed was someone to show they cared about my stroganoff needs and the marshmallow bird pops. Please fix these problems if you hope to receive my service. read more

I recently visited this location the day before my sister-in-laws shower when we arrived at the store at 8:15 p.m. the doors where locked. On the door it clearly stated that it was open until 9 p.m. however, due to summer hours and construction in the area the hours changed. Cindy, a sales associate came to the door and we told her we needed a shower gift and she let us in. She gave us quality time and great customer service even though she didn't need too. I went in to the Walnut Creek WS to buy a Hario V60 Buono 1200 ml pourover kettle for a birthday gift. I chose Williams Sonoma, as I had a gift card to use. Williams-Sonoma advertises that they will price match their competitors, and Bed Bath and Beyond had a special in-store price significantly less than most stores, even Amazon. Unfortunately, our local Bed Bath and Beyond did not have it in stock, and I didn't have time to go all the way to San Francisco. I showed the saleperson the Bed Bath and Beyond price on my cell phone. After she scrutiinized the ad, she insisted that it was not the same item in her store, and refused to match the price. Hario makes only ONE V60 Buono 1200 ml kettle. It was definitely the same item. Rather than argue with the salesperson, I decided to go across the street to Sur la Table. In less than 10 minutes, I was able to get the item at Sur la Table without any hassle. The salespeople at Sur la Table were friendly and helpful when I mentioned the item was sold for less by a competitor, as opposed to the salesperson at Williams-Sonoma, who was condescending. If I didn't have the gift card, I would not shop at the Walnut Creek Williams-Sonoma in the future. Truth be told, this was not the first time I was given a hard time for price matching there, and the time before I ended up going to Sur la Table as well. Williams-Sonoma's salespeople in Walnut Creek could learn a few lessons about customer service from the Sur la Table salespeople. read more

I love this chain of stores. They really stand behind their merchandise. I bought a slow cooker. Thing went on the fritz right after the warranty expired. I called the All Clad company and they said they couldn't fix it but they would give me a discount on the replacement. I took it back to Williams and Sonoma. The sales lady looked it up then replaced it, no hassle. read more
