Breakfast Burrito
Darian E.

Willow Cafe and Bistro is an effective, if average, cafe in Lincoln Square offering decent food in a breezy, excellent location. Our family gathered at this location for brunch on a Sunday in the late morning. I had the cappuccino ($4.50) which was small but potent, with good flavor made from proper espresso. Accompanying this was the Breakfast Burrito ($15) - a flour tortilla surrounding eggs, sausage, avocado, and cheese. No burrito is without fault however, with this rolled restaurant wrap filled with far too many potatoes - the cardinal sin of any breakfast burrito. More eggs or meat would go a long way to improving the meal. While the salsa did somewhat redeem the burrito from excess dryness, I left slightly disappointed. We lastly shared the raspberry roulade which was excellent; spongy cake with a sugar crust surrounding tart raspberries and sweet crème, a delicious finish that saved the meal from three star territory. Our server was effective and attentive, but not extraordinary. The environment, as stated, is great, with the restaurant clean and its patio flanking an open pedestrian area with live music and lots of space for children to play, perfect for a breezy fall day. Prices were reasonable but not excellent, as stated above. Overall, Willow offers a decent brunch in a great location. Pass on the burrito, don't skip the pastries, and I'm sure you'll be pleased. We stopped in when in town for an author event with the Book Cellar. Lovely location and great service. The food was delicious and the drinks were lovely. We didn't get to try and of the bakery treats, but the looked amazing. Overall we very much enjoyed our quick dinner before the show.

Pesto & Eggs

Really enjoyed sitting outside for brunch at Willow Cafe and Bistro! I got the pesto and eggs and it was a great serving size and quality of food. I got a side of bacon and they gave me 4 pieces! Our waiter was super nice and brought us water pretty consistently through the meal.

This place is good for a nice outdoor patio dining experience right on the plaza. They have a bunch of refreshing cocktails on the menu and some good vegetarian options. Unfortunately, the vegan burger was sold out, but I got the normal vegetarian one instead. The cheese curds were also very good.

Filet Mignon Slider

We were attending the concert at Giddings and excited to support a local business. I ordered the 3 filet mignon sliders only to receive 3 overcooked mini smash burgers. When I went back, I was informed its ground filet mignon. How very sad. If it was in fact filet, it tasted like a burger. And I'm not sure why would one choose to make a ground beef patty out of filet mignon. If you do, I would note that on the menu as it felt like false advertising. They offered to refund my money, but that was not the point.

They're located actually in Lincoln Square, by the fountain. We were seated outside on the patio which is very nice. We watched school kids walk by and retired gentlemen sitting on the bench. We were brought water right away, and our waiter came out shortly to take our drink orders. Even though the menu only says coffee or cappuccino, they are able to make espresso drinks, and they have decaf! We ordered one slice each of the two daily quiches - spinach tomato and Lorraine. Both were very light, rich and flavorful and served with a delicious salad. (Unfortunately, the spinach was a bit salty for us - but we are on low salt diets). Our waiter came to check on us twice, and the check came promptly. They have a pastry counter at the front with more seating in the back. We will definitely stop by again when in the area.

I asked her for some recommendations and she suggested one of the frozen drinks. I'm so glad she did because I have been craving it ever since! They have a few frozen drinks to choose from, but I went with the cold brew + hazelnut truffle. It's made with housemade hazelnut milk, cold brew, cacao, frozen bananas, housemade coconut caramel, maple syrup, vanilla, and seasalt. Trust me-- it is just as heavenly as it sounds! I forgot to get photos of it because I drank it so quickly--sorry! The space is so cute inside and it's in a fun area to wander around, right in the heart of Lincoln Square. Can't wait to come back!

That brownie I had was delicious and actually satisfying for a sweet tooth like me! The rose latte was enjoyable and once again, they had gluten-free bread to offer for the sandwiches/paninis. Not only that, they are actually a dollar less than the regular one because they say it's smaller. Less - you read that right. Anywhere else they up-charge for the gluten-free version, even if it's just frozen Udi's. It wasn't so here! Note: their savory stuffed pastries like the spinach ones and potato ones aren't gluten-free because they're brought in by another vendor.

The shop is sparsely decorated but seems to be a real staple in the community, which felt special to visit as an outsider. My friend and I both ordered egg and goat cheese bagel sandwiches. I ordered an iced lavender matcha and my friend ordered a cappuccino. The sandwiches were made with boiled eggs, which felt extremely odd. The egg type was not clarified on the menu, but I feel like for a breakfast sandwich to include a boiled egg instead of a traditional fried or scrambled egg, that should be disclosed to customers with some sort of expectations. My friend said the cappuccino was "just like every other cappuccino I've ever had." The lavender matcha really just tasted like a regular matcha. It was good but not much lavender flavor! Our food also took a bit to come out, despite the coffee shop being empty (only one other person already dining when we came in) and what we ordered. It looked like there were only two workers. I personally wouldn't visit Sipping Turtle Cafe again, unfortunately. There are a lot of other great options around that satisfy me more.

It was better than I ever expected! There are about a million pastry options, first of all, which is the BEST! No shortage of sweet or savory options here. Second, the coffee menu was also awesome! I got a creamsicle iced something or another and it was soooo yummy. My boyfriend was very jazzed for a geisha coffee pour over and drank it with his pinky up of course because, fancy. The ambiance was PHENOMMMM truly can't get over the vibe. Every detail inside this place was so carefully curated and well thought out, it was stunning. Everywhere I looked I couldn't stop admiring something, from a sconce to a tabletop color to a bonsai. Everything was stunning. It was also so much bigger than I expected! I loved that there were so many different rooms and different seating options. In chatting with a team member, they offered us a little tour which was really the cherry on top. My boyfriend got to share his joy and knowledge of coffee and get a behind the scenes look at how they do what they do. Thank you, Milli by Metric! We truly can't wait to come back!

There was already a small line of guests with the same idea, but we were able to get on the waitlist. While waiting, we checked out the small coffee shop inside the gallery and browsed the furniture, which helped pass the time. Our wait was about an hour before being escorted to our table in the courtyard. Initially, we were placed at a low coffee table with couch seating. It's a cool lounge style setup, especially for drinks, but not ideal for a meal. It would have been pretty awkward trying to eat comfortably. We asked to be moved and were told that table preferences should be requested when joining the waitlist. Since it was my first time visiting, I wasn't aware of that, and it also wasn't asked by the hostess. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us and moved us to a table in the wine cellar. The wine cellar had a completely different vibe, dark and moody, compared to the bright, airy courtyard with its beautiful glass ceiling and natural light. We ordered the lobster roll and the RH Burger, both with fries. The food came out fairly quickly and was well-presented. The lobster roll was served on a buttery brioche with just the right amount of seasoning, and the burger was juicy and flavorful. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely visit again.

Unfortunately for us we were a table for 3 and despite having mad that reservation weeks in advance were placed in what was obviously just 2 two tops pushed together. And not in the main atrium area. We also had the crispy artichokes meh. What saved my night was the chicken salad. The crispy bits...amazing all through the salad. So good. Let's talk dessert, the butterscotch crème brûlée so good. Coffee and a port wine.... Good, but where is the cheese board. This place would benefit from real liquor and a desert cheese board. I mean I must believe that RH has a cheese board on offer somewhere. Anyway, nice evening and decent food in a mostly lovely place.
