After a month of waiting for our appointment at Wilmington Eye, they called to tell us they made a mistake and did not have the right equipment ready. The appointment was rescheduled for a month later. Finally, we drove the hour away to Wilmington Eye for our appointment. It took about an hour wait, but my son finally got his exam. That was only to be told that they could do the needed procedure two months later. I asked for a sooner one, since my son is not able to see or drive and needs it sooner. We still had to wait the two months. My son is looking forward to seeing again and we rescheduled a lot of things around this long waited procedure, including not being at his grandfather's funeral in another state. What's more frustrating is to be called 3 days prior and be told that Dr. Springs is not available again and we have to wait again for the next available appointment. My son was told four months ago that he was loosing his eye sight and needed the procedure. I feel like we are being pushed off and disregarded. Wilmington Eye Company needs to staff Doctors responsibly. If an eye Doctor becomes unavailable They need to find a solution that does not push patients months out. It is painful to be stuck with this kind of service. I hope this is not happening to anyone else. I hope that the Wilmington Eye team and leadership finds a solution. Please help. read more

Eeek. This place is just too big for its own good. I waited well over 2 hours to be seen for my appointment (that I arrived early to). When the provider came in she brushed off the wait saying it was a Monday. She spent a couple of minutes with me total. It was almost like a factory, just get the patients in, spend no time and move to the next because the volume is clearly too high for them to keep up with or to spend any quality time on. I left without understanding what to do or whom to contact for prescription glasses and contacts. I finally got someone on the phone after multiple attempts at calling to order contacts. I never heard back on if/when they arrived so I had to spend hours trying to contact Wilmington Eye to get someone on the phone who could help find my order. Their phone system is horrendous. You call a central office and then they attempt to transfer you to the Wilmington Eye location you need. In my experience, the call then disconnects so you need to start the call process over. I have never been able to just get anyone on the line - typically the call wait is many ahead of your call. I couldn't even leave a message to have someone call me back instead. I still don't have my contact order. I have no clue where it even is in the process at this point. I just won't be going back here and highly recommend others go elsewhere. read more

I am highly disappointed in Dr Shipley. My handicapped non-verbal grandchild had a 9am appointment today. It took me an hour to convince her that she couldn't go to school but was going to see her doctor. She is 7 years old and very difficult to break routine with. We live almost 53 miles away and had to drop another grandchild off at school. That's 106 miles round trip at a little under 4.00 a gallon for gas. On the way to Wilmington we encountered a wreck that caused us to be late. I had already called the office and told them we would be late the person I talked to said okay. We got there right at 9:20. When we got there the person at the desk informed us they had a 20 minute late policy so she went to make sure Dr Shipley would see my granddaughter. The doctor said no. This was just a follow up on my granddaughter getting new glasses. No dilation, no extensive examine. She said no. As someone stated before, Dr Shipley has no "bedside manner". She is not very friendly or warm towards my granddaughter. So I know she would not have used much of her time to see us. So what we ended up with was an expensive trip to Wilmington, a missed day of school and a handicapped child having a meltdown in their parking lot. Dr Shipley came recommended to us because of her experience with Pediatrics. What I needed to research was someone who could work with the handicapped and be a little more understanding. read more

The staff was super nice. And Dr.Covington was very professional and willing to answer any questions. No real wait time, may 3-4 minutes. Which I really appreciated. My only complaint was that I had sent in copies of my insurance cards, one being Blue Cross Davis vision. It wasn't until I was in the office for the appt. that I was told that they didn't accept it. Was't that the point of sending them in prior, to make sure that you accepted the insurance ? read more

This review is for Dr. Melissa Shipley Pediatric Ophthalmic Surgeon at Wilmington Eye. I had high expectations for Dr. Shipley since it was really difficult to get my daughter seen and we had to wait almost 2 for an appointment. Our visit consultation was okay, the we spent most of our time waiting outside in the reception area than with Dr. Shipley. After the nurse dilated my daughter's eye we were taken back to the reception and once we went in the room and Dr. Shipley came in to examine my daughter she spent less than 10 minutes with us. Se just prescribed a medication and told me to come back in 2 weeks. I had to stop her from leaving the room to ask questions regarding my daughter condition. She was very cold and her answers were just short, her bedside manner is just not the best specially for a Pediatric doctor, she is just not meant to work with children. The second visit was also short, she spent less than 10 minutes in the room. We schedule my daughter's surgery and that went well thank God. I don't doubt Dr. Shipley is a brilliant surgeon but she needs to step up her communication skills with the parents and spend more time in the room. Wed. Aug. 8th my daughter had her 1 week post op follow up and our appt was schedule for 4:30pm, we arrived at 4:20pm and we waiting 1 hour and 30 minutes to be seen, in a room PACKED with children, you can obviously tell they overbooked the schedule. How is it ok to make a 2 year old waiting almost 2 hours to be seem? Please have more respect of people's time. I work in the medical field too and I understand Emergencies situations happened all the time but its not okay to make your patients wait so long and its not okay for the front desk to NOT communicate with parents or at least apologize for the long wait! The worst part was that once we were taken to the back Dr. Shipley spent 2 MINUTES in the wrong, 2 minutes! this is unbelievable!! Of course her office is going to be bill our insurance for 99213 - OFFICE OUTPATIENT VISIT 15 MINUTES when she only spent 2 minutes in the room examining my daughter. Yes, we timed her! I already called my insurance and I will be filing a grievance because this is not ethical. Please have some respect for people. read more

2nd visit here and was disappointed again... If you like ling wait times and rude staff, come see the unfriendly people at Wilmington Eye Pediatrics. Wilmington Eye was ok but the pediatrics department was awful. First time i had an afternoon appt, they made us wait 45 mins after our appt was to before i had to ask them how much longer. The women rudely explained that i was next and that this was just to get my baby seen and put drops in, then we had to wait another 45 mins to be seen by the dr. This is terrible practice for a pediatrics office that should cater to impatient fussy kids., how about you immediately get the drops in while we are waiting? Seems like a smarter option. I waited so long that we ended up leaving because my 6 month old started getting fussy and hungry. I was advised to make an appt 1st thing in the morning to avoid a wait time, so i did. I got there for my 8am appt this morning at 750, just leaving the office at 945 because the dr. Was held up by a 30 min "emergency call" while we sat in the room waiting for her. Its just ridiculous, seems they don't value patients time or they are so unorganized that we suffer. Will not be returning. read more

My father was treated by two physicians in this practice when he got shingles on his head and in one eye. They have physicians who specialize in different areas of eye care. My father ended up needing placental tissue as a contact to heal his eye without loss of vision. If you call them and explain your particular need you will be scheduled with the appropriate specialist. read more

I was so happy with march/2020 visit because not only my contact/eye glases prescription was so perfect, it was fantastic service. So I wait for this 10/20/2020 visit with high expectation. Even make my fiance having his eye check, also. Me and him went in there right on time of his appointment and report both to the receptionist who looks like new/ just start work ( because she was learning how to from the other lady, she just got back to reception desk from break). After He went in I was waiting for my appointment which is 30 min more which I already expected. I was waiting and watched lots of people kept coming in and went inside even my appointment time pass it 20min, I was sitting waiting and watched. I went to back to receptionist let her know I am still waiting, she simply reply without any check 'just wait, somebody will come' and then she looked her computer and a click keyboard. I was wait more 10min and finally had to come out, text my fiance who was still inside examin know that I had to walk out waiting in the car. He said that he went to receptionist ask about, then this receptionist ran out to my car and yelling at me ' everybody is looking for you!'I just can not understand this receptionist. During my long after appointment waiting time, If the receptionist let me know she still trying to let me in, or check me, or just simply talk to me, I wouldn't walk out that office. 4days are pass, I did not hear from this place. I recently had a follow up visit with Dr. Oester. He had performed a blepharoplasty. When I expressed that I was not happy with the outcome, he immediately showed me the before and after photos. When I persisted that this was not what I asked for in our initial discussion, he stated, "you must be one of those people who is not happy about anything, 97% of my patients are happy with the results". I was amazed that he would speak to a patient like that. I just got up and left. read more
