Wilson Tire & Service lived up to their name. I came into their shop because my rear tire was rapidly losing air and the tire needed to be repaired or replaced. I was told that it didn't look good, but they would see what they could do. No tire in stock to fit my vehicle, but could possibly get one in a couple of days. It's my only car, had extensive plans for the weekend and I was desperate. He had the tire thoroughly checked out and discovered that the thumb screw I had run over was only partially in the tire. Stopped in today to get a tire patched or replaced. -- And industrial staple went through it. Arrived around 9 am, and out around 10 am. They patched the hole from the insided, checked the spare and informed me that the oil needed changing. Jake & Ryan were helpful and professional. But agreeing with what a previous person posted - $40 seemed a bit much for a tire patch. Not spliting hairs, but I have paid less to have one done in the same amount of time. I live within walking distance of this business. Rarely use them because they are so overpriced. Its a franchise location so they can do what they want. Had a low tire. Drove there to have it fixed just to be safe. $56. Fletchers, 1/4 mile away said they could do it for $23. Goodyear on the Pike in Rockville said they would have done it for free. Charged me extra for having to fix a "low profile tire". No other place I called after I dropped my car off had ever heard of that charge. Use them only in an emergency, otherwise shop around. And they filled my tires to 35psi. Tires and inside the door of my car states no more than 32psi max! read more

I'm an Olney resident and have a reliable 2009 civic. Previously, I went to Graeves auto for maintenance and they left a bad taste in my mouth. They weren't very friendly, they were brusque and didn't leave me feeling confident in their work. I won't get into it as this is not a review for Graeves, but especially in comparison, Wilson Tire and Auto Service was a treat. I went in to get my A/C fixed, oil changed and get a weird noise investigated. I was kind of nervous going in, I'm not very knowledgeable about cars. The guys at the front desk were friendly and knowledgeable, they listened and addressed my concerns. They called me and kept me updated on what they found, what they were doing, and even took it around the block again to make sure they got it right. They explained everything to me and weren't bored with my asking questions. I got my car back the same afternoon with peace of mind. I will be coming here for auto service from now on. read more

Very friendly, both on the phone and in person. Unfortunately, not a good experience in the end. I took my truck in for a simple tire balance and rotate, picked it up and went on my way. I immediately noticed that it was riding like a brick on my short ride home. I suspected that they had overfilled the tires with air so checked them. Sure enough, they had put 35 psi in each tire (the specification right in the door jamb is 30 psi). Okay, don't know why they did that but I let them all back down to 30 psi and that was fine. No big deal. As a matter of practice, I have learned over the years to double check the wheel lug nut torque on my wheels after I have them worked on by any shop. I have found that they usually way over tighten them and/or tighten them unevenly, so I always get a floor jack out and loosen them all up and then re-tighten them evenly to spec with a torque wrench. Upon doing this, I was very surprised (and actually shocked) to find that almost all of the lug nuts were barely more than hand tight. I mean I could easily loosen most of them with a small ratchet with one hand. The lug nut torque specification for this truck is 98 ft-lbs; I would estimate that most of them were no more than 10-15 ft-lbs. Had I not checked them there is no way they would not have loosened up completely while driving which could have potentially been quite dangerous. I called the store the next day and spoke to the manager who listened to my concerns, and was very pleasant and offered me a full refund. I was very happy that he did so, but not so happy that he did not seem too concerned about what had happened. Later that day, I went back to the shop and again spoke with the manager, who gave me a refund. He was again very pleasant and polite. But it was clear he did not want to engage me in a conversation about what happened when I tried, and seemed more concerned with getting me out of the store as soon as possible. I understand people make mistakes and stuff happens. But the scary part is about what might have (and probably would have) happened had I not checked my lug nuts. And what about the other 99% of the customers who do not check these things because they should not have to? I understand they were just taking me at my word about what happened, as I had no proof at that point. But I was very constructive and specific about my experience, and gave them a chance to react appropriately. This was a very dangerous condition that my vehicle was left in, and I feel that a sense of concern rather than ambivalence would have been the appropriate response. Had I gotten a different response, I would have given them another chance with my other vehicle. I really try to support local businesses, but I cannot afford to go here again or recommend them based upon my experience. read more

I got my oil changed here a few months ago. I also asked them to rotate the tires because they were having a special. At the time, they called me to tell me I needed to replace my tires. I declined because I still had plenty of tread. Then they told me I wanted to leave the tires with more tread on the back for traction and control. I was done arguing about it with them even though I have a front wheel drive vehicle and that is where the better tires should go 2 months later, my low oil pressure light comes on. I had to add 2.5 qts of oil to my car. I start paying attention to see if it is leaking under the car. Sure enough...my oil plug was hand tight and leaking slowly. Now the underside of my car is a hot mess from the leaking and it's cost me 4 extra quarts of oil to get it back to the correct levels. Only reason I give them 2 stars...cheap, quick, and friendly. I can't help but wander if it was pure neglect or sabotage, hoping for repeat business. read more

On Sat I purchased 4 new Goodyears for my P/U truck and had them mounted and today I'm back for oil change and lube on same truck. Both visits have been very pleasurable. Prompt and professional service and quality work. I have used Wilson in the past for tires and service and plan to continue. I have used the olney location of Don Wilson for my auto service for the last.10 years. It is the only shop where i have been told that i did not need any service when i requested it. This refers to the fact that i asked for an air filter change a few years ago and was told it was fine and did not need replacing. I stopped by to ask for tire assessment on my car. I was concerned to see some cracking so I wanted to hear the expert's view. Gentleman came out right away dropping everything to help with my issue/concern. He looked at my tires carefully giving it a thorough look and then told me that as much as he wanted to sell me new tires, he stated I could wait until next year if I don't drive excessively. For brakes, stay away. For oil change, find someone more honest. Brakes. I diagnosed a fault with the wheel speed sensor for my antilock brakes - a fast tapping sound every time I touch the breaks above 20 mph, and a blue light telling me the ABS was trying to do its thing - meaning the car thinks the wheel is locked, bad wheel speed sensor. Unplug the ABS module, tapping goes away, blue light "ABS active" replaced by orange trouble light. But which wheel, left front or right front? That why I went to Wilson Goodyear in Olney. For $134 they would tell me which wheel, and all told it would be a $500 or $600 repair. They end up telling me they could not get the trouble code reader to fit. Sorry, no charge, we cannot fix your car. Dudes, cars could be fixed before trouble code scanners were invented. One of my two wheel speed sensors is fried. Can't you try to figure out which one? If a trouble code reader says "whatchamacallit system valve OR sensor", do you require the customer to fix both because you can't figure out which? Oil change. They say they don't offer conventional, semi-synthetic is their minimum, $36.99. I actually asked the question, "Are there any other charges, like a $2.50 oil recycling fee?" Just tax, they told me. And when I picked up the car, there was a $3.70 shop charge added on. I don't care if "everyone does it", I asked the question, the answer was "No", and now they had my car hostage. They would not remove the charge, I paid it, and here is my nice little tribute to the whole crew. Honor my experience, ask about added charges everywhere you go, and the next one time you think of going here, please go somewhere else instead. read more

I agree with the other posts. They are very knowledgable about tires. Their prices are close to Costco's. I gave up on Costco because they are always too busy. Costco promises rotation for the life of the tire but there has been a three hour wait every time it tried to do it. I had a bad experience with Graeve's so Wilson has become my go to place for automotive care. read more

I discovered this place while googling 'tires In Olney Md". I had already shopped at the Big Place On The Corner (sounds like 'Fletchers') and wasn't convinced of their tire expertise. You wouldn't think tires need experts, but tire choices can be difficult. So yeah, you need guys who know what they are doing. I assumed when i saw the name - Wilson TIRE - they would be able to help me out. And they did. This is a 7 location outfit but you are still made to feel like it's a small business with a small business approach to customer service. They can get any brand and their prices are competitive. But tires are not cheap, esp for a full size pickup truck. When i balked at the prices they gave me for the Big Boy Brand tires...Michelin, Goodyear, BF Goodrich, etc...they made up a very thorough list of compatible tires for me sorted by price. I made my choice and an appointment. Tires in and installed the next day. And it comes with lifetime free tire rotation for which they send you a reminder card a few days before you are due. That's pretty cool. read more

I had a bad experience at Graeves - I don't even want to talk about what I think they did. I use to live in Rockville and went to auto Italia for thirty years but moved. Fletchers was booked for a month so I tried Wilson. I noticed a lot of older guys and asked, "Have most of your been working here a long time. His response was, "Most of us have been working here forever". There is nothing worse then taking your car to a family owned or sole proprietor who is in financial trouble. They cut the diagnosis fee almost in half because they found out it was the starter quickly and charged me five times more than what the true price of the starter really is. Everyone does that! I wish I could give negative stars. I took my car to this store in January to get my car new tires, new brakes, and a full tune up and diagnostic. I was there to spend a good amount of money to get the car in good working order for the next couple years. I dropped 2k. The car drove for under 1000 miles after I left this store. The collent lines had been sealed with a silicon putty, which melted and caused the line to become detached. My engine overheated and was destroyed. The mechanics I took the car to in Newark, where I broke down, took one look at my car and the receipt for the 2k worth of work I put into the car and instantly told me that the work I'd gotten done was not done correctly. I contacted this store and they filed a claim with their insurance. This claim took 2 weeks to process, and was denied. I called the store to see if they'd be willing to work with me toward a resolution and they would not (they were not even willing to wave the 2k for the work they didn't do correctly)...I'm sure they've dealt with this before and they were kind of rude on the phone about the whole thing. I was contact by their insurance again today. Apparently this store wasn't even covered for this incident...meaning they left me in limbo for 2 weeks while they filed a claim they had no coverage for (they don't even know their own insurance policy). I filed a complaint with the better business bureau, disputed the charge with the credit card company, am investigating my legal options, and leaving words of warning on every public forum I know of. Do not under any circumstance bring your car to this mechanic! read more

I contacted Fletcher's (my go to for mechanical work) for 4 new tires and and alignment. Because of the type of car I own, they could not do the alignment and referred me to Wilson's. I stopped in for a quote. I had specific tires I was looking for (Pirelli). They gave me the quote, told me they could have my tires delivered and the car out the door by the end of the day. I was surprised as I was expecting to need to set up an appointment for next week. So I surrendered my keys and returned at the end of the day. Last year I had a tire that was losing air. We were leaving for a trip in a few hours and ran up to the Goodyear Tire Center in the back of the new Fair Hill shopping center. The guys were so nice, they took me without an appointment and in very little time reported back that they found a nail in my tire, patched it and I was ready to leave. They were very honest, professional and didn't rip me off. Yesterday, my husbands tire warning light went off in his car. Even though we now live in Rockville, I drove back to Olney to have the guys at Goodyear Tire Center check on the car. Again, they were quick, honest and fixed our issue for us. Had a great experience at Wilson Tire in Olney today. I was in between running my kids places after school, as we moms always are, when I noticed a hissing noise as I stepped out of my car. One of my tires was going flat. I jumped back in the car and rushed to Wilson before the tire was too flat to drive. They had my tire plugged and I was on the road again within a HALF HOUR. I had used this shop for past 4 or 5 years for brakes, oil changes, tires, etc.. In the last year service has gone down. Been forced to return to shop to repair issues they caused by a simple inspection. Shop applied services I specifically asked they do not do. Visited for a simple tire repair and was told I had to leave the car for the day. They didn't even look to see if it could be done quickly. Repair took 20 min at another shop. I'm an Olney area resident who drives a Dodge Durango. Previously, Wilson Tire and Auto Service installed tires on the vehicle which I purchased and provided to Wilson. They did a fair job so I thought I'd get an oil change, have them read the codes to address the check engine light and install the 4x4 linkage (which is no more than 2 small rubber bushings and a "U" bolt). I felt like it couldn't have been more difficult and they we trying to make it as expensive as possible. First, Wilson called to inform me they charge $130 to read the computer codes. The dealer doesn't even charge that much, especially when having other work done on the vehicle. Secondly, they won't install the 4x4 linkage part because I was providing the parts, despite the fact I have a dealer receipt and the parts are in the original Dodge/Mopar packaging. They claim it's a warranty issue so I offered to sign a waiver. They again refused. Wilson simply wants to charge us twice what the parts cost and hold onto our vehicles for a couple of days while they order/wait for the parts. If they're going to pick & choose what they do and over-charge, they don't need to perform my oil change, or work on any of my vehicles for that matter. I have since found a full service shop that's happy to do the work I request at a fair price. They don't use warranty issues as an excuse to refuse parts or work. Very disappointing...guess Wilson Tire and Auto has all the business they want. read more
