I had a leak in my tire and needed to get it checked as soon as possible. My local Honda dealership was going to make me wait 2 hours. The NTB by Hungerford didn't have an opening until 1pm and I have to catch a flight at 5pm. I called Rockville Tire and Auto around 10am. He told me it would only take 30min, but a bay wouldn't be opened until about 11-1130am. I arrived at 11am and by 1122a, they found the culprit of the leak (stupid nail), patched my tire, and I was on my merry way! The price was very reasonable ($25.11 includes tax). The staff was very courteous. The inside of the shop is clean and has a 3 seater couch, a 2 seater, and a single chair. I can vouch for the comfiness of the three seater. There's a tv, an empty water dispenser, a Keurig (no k cups in there), and free wifi. While there were no K Cups out, you could certainly ask for them. I didn't come here for "amenities," so this didn't affect me at all. Hands down, I'll be coming here for future tire needs! read more

This shop tries to scam customers who they think don't know any better. Had a car with the tire pressure light on. Doing some online research I figured it was due to the TPMS's battery was low and thus needed to be replaced. I have previously gotten one replaced at another shop for only $60 including sensor and labor. Only $25 for the labor if you bring your own part. Neely's tried to charge me $160 for just a 'diagnosis' which is literally a 1 min check with a diagnostic tool to find out the battery levels of each TPMS. And then they 'recommended' to replace all 4 sensors at once when that is totally unnecessary as all 4 TPMS's battery nearly never runs out at the same time. Then they want some more money for an OEM TPMS sensor when a universal Autel TPMS is less than $30 on Amazon. And Neely's will NOT install a customer provided part, even if it is brand new. Not to mention the mechanic I spoke with looks like some gang member and was super rude at that. AVOID these scam artist. If you want an honest mechanic, reach out to me and I can hook you up with one. read more

I recently planned a tire replacement and front end alignment with Nealey. Unfortunately the tires had either not arrived or were not ordered for my appt. It was not ideal however they did get the tires a few hours later and I returned and was seen to right away. They were patching it up and I guess the guy who was taking care of the job put a hole in the tire which became at this point in repairable. Super fast and friendly service! I stopped by to patch one of my flats and get an oil change. I was in and out as a new customer in 30 min. Plus, they have a nice lounge equipped with Wifi, TV, coffee and super comfy couches if you do need to wait. It's right next to a few restaurants so if you prefer to go elsewhere, they'll give you a call once your service is done. The photos currently on Yelp do not do this place justice--they've done some serious upgrades which I'll have to upload some photos next time I'm there. The gentleman at the front was friendly, efficient, and professional. He gave me an accurate and very reasonable estimate of how much everything would cost. One of the mechanics even showed me that I actually had TWO nails in my car. Since my repair, I haven't had any issues! I was visiting a friend in Maryland and while making a quick trip to Home Depot, I mentioned to my buddy there was a problem with alignment. He told me about Rockville Tire and Auto that was around the corner from HD where he had a good experience getting a tire plugged, so we stopped in. I went in and was met by John, the manager. Explained I'd be driving back up north the next day and had some concern about my alignment. He told me to stop in the next morning at 9:15. Before I left, I grabbed a business card and confirmed he was John. The next morning, I show up just before 9:15. I see John. He acts like he doesn't know me, or what I'm talking about. Eventually he agrees to take my truck in and do the alignment, but I'd have to leave it and he'd call me when he's done. My buddy comes and picks me up. At around 3, I call and check on the status and speak with John. HE ACTS LIKE I'M INCONVENIENCING HIM! I remind him I'm leaving the area that evening and he says to come pick up the truck in an hour. I pick it up and his attitude is abysmal, at best. I leave from there and immediately start heading back home. On the highway, I realize that the truck still pulls. I call the shop from the road and John, again rudely, says it's my tire tread. He never mentioned this when I picked up the truck. I get back home and take it to my mechanic. Amazingly, my mechanic says the tires are fine, but the truck it out of alignment. He does an alignment and now the truck drives great! Obviously, no alignment was done. Many consumers like me have a ridiculous bias in favor of chain or franchise auto repair centers--over hard-working sole proprietorships like Rockville Tire & Auto (RT&A). How many times will I take for me getting burned by the Meineke and other chain auto repair centers before I just always go straight to Rockville Tire & Auto for its HONEST, fair, and affordable auto maintenance + solutions?!?! Earlier this year, I got a quote from RT&A to replace my rear brake pads. But I went to a nearby Meineke instead because they mail you those coupons. In the end, Meineke turned out much more expensive than RT&A's quote. On top of that, from the next morning onward, my brakes squeaked; when I returned a week later to point that out, Meineke blamed the squeaking on "inferior metal used in China for brake pads that cause more moisture". Even after admitting that this problem has occurred before because of an inferior product, they refused to replace them with non-inferior pads. (I wrote to Meineke corporate to complain, but they never responded.) This week, I went to a different, nearby "chain brand auto center" (CBAC) for a free brake inspection. (I won't name them, because I hate that they have my home address in their system now...in case they retaliate against critics online.) Earlier this year, Meineke had told me that my front pads had only 5mm--urging me to replace those soon. So I assumed it might be time to recheck. But I went to this different CBAC instead for a free brake inspection. CBAC also gave me a price quote higher than RT&A! Worse yet, CBAC also made a big deal that it was almost dangerous to keep using my front brake pads if I didn't get them repaired that day! I decided to rethink it, and could always use the CBAC franchise closer to my home In a couple days. But I decided to return to RT&A for a second opinion. You always think these Mom & Pop shops are only cheaper because they don't have the reputation for excellence like the major chains. RT&A looked over my brakes--and unlike all the others, they invited me into the garage to actually see what they were explaining. "Your front brake pads are still at 40%! You don't need to spend the money now. Just recheck them again after 6,000 more miles. Even then, they still might be good." Don't let these chain brand auto centers try to intimidate you because they assume you don't know anything about cars!!! I'm so very grateful that I found this place and gave it a shot. I've taken multiple vehicles to Rockville Tire and Auto many times, and every time I've come away extremely satisfied. Where other local mechanics give me the run around, don't actually address the issue I brought the car in for, misdiagnose the issue and don't fix it, or overcharge, Rockville Tire and Auto is a breath of fresh air. They have had many opportunities to charge me more for unnecessary or optional work, but they never do that. They seem to value the continued business over milking out a quick buck. I find their work to be of high quality, their explanations to be detailed, and their pricing to be more than fair. I have no clue what the reviewers here are talking about when they say the owner and mechanics are rude. After half a dozen visits, it's always been pleasant and polite throughout. I have to drive 20 minutes to get to Rockville Tire and Auto, and sometimes I get lazy and go to a station up the street. Every time I do that, I wish that I just spent the extra time driving to this shop because I end up wasting more time and money messing around with these other bozos. Seriously, if you aren't sure of where to go for work on your car, but you're tired of getting jerked around by other shops, do give Rockville Tire and Auto a try! As an example of why Rockville Tire and Auto shines, my car recently was having trouble starting - I'd have to turn the ignition 2-3 times to get it to start. I took it to a shop up the street, and two hours later they tell me it's done. I go to start the car and it has the same issue. I ask what's the deal, and they say it works but you just have to press in really hard and turn. I told them this is problematic for others who use the car and I would like it to work like we've come to expect, and they started dawdling about not being sure of the cost. So I decided to go to another nearby shop. They said they would have to take the entire steering column out to fix the issue, and we're looking at like $650 for parts and labor. So I take it to Rockville Tire and Auto, and within like 3 hours, the issue is totally fixed for a grand total of less than $200 (I can't remember the exact amount, but the price difference was stark). This is just one of many examples I have with this shop over others I've dealt with. read more

I liked dealing with the manager John, straight forward, no BS. All the prices are stated on a rotating electronic screen, so no games. Although there aren't really strict appointment times he was able to finish with my oil change within the time he had stated. I also suggested that the car may need a tire rotation but he stated that they were fine and didn't need a rotation for my upcoming trip to NJ. Unfortunately I will be moving to VA soon but I highly recommend this service, plus it is right next to Big Wang's so that's a plus lol. read more

A little disappointed. My friend recommended this place to get my oil change. I went in the early morning to drop off my car. The gentlemen at the front desk was nice. I had requested oil & filter change and also to make sure my tires were all the same pressure because one tire was pretty low. He told me they would call me when it is ready and it'd be ready around 10AM. 10AM came around and I had no phone call. 11AM came around and still no phone call. I decided to call them to see if my car was done and it sure was! I had my friend drop me off, excited to get my car back and drive my car... to only have the same tire pressure I dropped it off at. It even says on the paper that they would have gotten that fixed. I did not receive a phone call and I did not receive the full service I had wanted. read more

One final update, May 2015: Went here again for new wipers, alignment and oil change for my Toyota. They were extremely quick, the price was quite a bit UNDER what I expected and they threw in the wipers for free!! I've been here probably ten times now and I'm VERY happy with the new management. The oil change and wipers were extremely well priced and the check engine light was simply a loose gas cap. I was very happy with the cost, customer service and speed. This place is top notch and I'll continue taking my car here. -------- I've been going to this place for about a year. It seems to be under new management. Everything but the sign looks the same (it was Midas for quite a while). I'd always had work done here and recently went in about some vibration in my steering wheel and a strong odor of exhaust. The manager was polite and spoke to me like I was knowledgeable. He answered my questions, entertained my guesses at what it could be and took it back to fix it. He cleared the "check engine" light, inspected my tires, rotated them, replaced the rotors, flushed my transmission and gave me new wipers. The total price was a little higher than I am used to at this shop and he reduced it to the price that it had been in the past. While I do not expect him to do this for me every time, I will still go back and see him because he was honest and did not try to up-sell me even when I was prepared to buy four new tires. I would not trust my car to any other mechanic in the area. John and his team are the absolute BEST ever; super knowledgable, super reasonable, super honest, and out of all the quirky issues my old beat up truck has had, there has not been a single one they haven't been able to fix. My family used to go here back when it was a Midas and under different management, but the old Midas never could solve my cars problems permanently and over charged. The first time I came to Rockville tire and auto, I came thinking Midas was still there and I had a complaint about a repair Midas did that had not fixed the problem. John, upon informing me that Midas was gone and the place was under new management, honored my receipt for the work under the previous management, and worked with me to find a cost effective permanent solution for my old ford explorers woes. Ever since then I have gone to him with everything my ford explorer needs, and my family now takes their Mercedes GLK and E320 to RTA for oil changes and for all issues they've had. Most recently, I took my moms car in for an oil change and asked him about some service lights that were on. He not only answered the questions, found all the issues, and fixed everything, he also (without me asking) printed off a sheet of all recalls for her car, pointed out which ones are most important if they apply to the vehicle, and gave me instructions as to where to go from there. In a nutshell, johns work is great, he's super friendly, prices his work below the competition since he has rather low overhead, knows more about every part of the car than any mechanic I've ever encountered, and he works with you. Also, it doesn't hurt that he's ridiculously honest, tells you when something is not worth investing in (example: an annoying noise in a really old ford explorer that poses no safety threat that you can fix but the part is pricey or you can leave be if you can suck up hearing the sound instead of throwing money at a money out), and has coffee, free wifi, and a ps3 in his lobby :) read more

After our second five-star experience here, I am compelled to write a review. First time I got a flat and pulled in at closing time. They happily put on my spare and placed an order for new tires, which came in the next morning. The service was great, we got a free alignment, and it all happened fast. So we brought the car back two weeks later for our state inspection (welcome to Maryland!) The car is a 2002 and failed because of a power steering line leak, axle assembly issues (tears in the boot). John brought us under the car to show us the issues. Again, this place is the absolute best for any questions, repairs, service, or anything else you need for your car. John is friendly, incredibly knowledgeable, and super honest, and he's always willing to take the time to go over any questions you have. I recently had a "free" safety recall performed at a nearby dealership, where they magically identified over $3000 in repairs I *HAD* to have done immediately. I went to John, and he took me through every one of these "problems" and showed me there was nothing wrong at all.
