The cashier services horrible. I'm sorry to said but she like one of those Karen ( her name Veronica) I went in today get some groceries I saw the sign for limes 3/99cent lb so I pick out about a bag. I didn't know on the little words on the sign said 1each. So the cashier lady ask how many did you get in this bag? So I ask is not 3 for 99c? She didn't answer me but keep on counting the limes and bring it up the price. I like it not 3 for 99c ? She likes how much do you expect to get it for? The other cashier walk by she try to tell the other lady that I "complaints" about the price of the Limes. I said I didn't complain I was just asking bc I saw what the sign said and I was sure. The other cashier told she will go take pictures and show to me. While I'm waiting the cashier Veronica keeps on asking me do you wanted it or not I could just take it off. I have to keep telling her can we wait for the other lady comeback. The other cashier comes back with the picture and show that said 1each for .58cent if you buy 3/99cent. And my cashier here so are you wanted it or not with attitude. I was planning to get it but since she not so nice I rather go to different store pay little more for better service. I've been to this location a couple times now and every time the store is very clean and organized. It's easy to find what you need, and the produce area is always looking fresh. Checking out at the register is pretty quick and the cashiers are friendly. This store location has a pretty decent parking lot size, that is shared with other businesses in the strip. I've shopped at Smart & Final for many years and interacted with this employee for the first - and last - time. The employee who checked me out was rude, condescending and inconsiderate. I had three small items on the belt and without looking at me she said angrily, "Do you want a bag?" I think she was irritated about something and just took it out on me. When I said, "No thank you," she didn't even respond or make eye contact, ever. She handed me my receipt and said nothing. I did not see her name tag but the name listed on the receipt was Florentina. She is a terrible representative of Smart & Final and could use some people-skills training. Or maybe change her job to stocking so she makes little contact with customers. If I ever shop at this store again, I will walk out if she's working the register. read more

Store seems pretty clean. Customer service is the worse. We asked an employee for an item and he ignored me. I asked him 2 times and he just walked away! It's 8:30pm March 3rd still about 1 1/2 before closing I don't see why customer service is not a priority still. We asked for the item at the cashier and Dilan said they didn't have it when we clearly seen it in the back. We went from one person ignoring us to another one not wanting to get the item. There's a Smart & Final location closer to home in Bellfower but I prefer this one because it's in a plaza where a lot other of my favorite stores are located (Sprouts, Marshalls, Home Goods). Sometimes I visit this location when some items I need aren't available at Sprouts, I can easily just walk over a few stores down. I find the produce they have at Sprouts are fresher looking & amazingly priced better. I shop here for the name brands I can't find at Sprouts (they usually have their Sprouts brand). I need oat bran which S&F still carry, while Sprouts does not. You can't find Kellogg's, Campbell's, Haagen Daz or Oreos at Sprouts, @ S&F you can. S&F is like a Costco type of store in that they have bulk items (whereas Costco it's mainly bulk items). At S&F you have the option to buy the smaller (regular) servings of items, and no membership required. They have bulk items for nuts & snacks but I prefer the set up at Sprouts in bins. If you prefer buying the more recognizable brand names you grew up with, S&F is just like Ralph's or Albertsons in that sense. For me, it's convenient because of its location & proximity to my other go to places. It'll do in a pinch. If I could find a place that could have a farmers market, Sprouts, Costco & H-mart all rolled into one, I would never need to go anywhere else--hopefully not need to buy membership fees either, wishful thinking! read more

Stopped in to buy milk today and there was no one shopping so it was empty. When waking to the front to pay noticed two lights on indicating cashiers open but one was empty and one had someone standing there. As I was walking to the cashier who was standing there a guy who worked there spoke up and said that the cashier of the empty register will be right back and pointed me to go there. I told him that thanks but will just go to this register as it was occupied. He now wanted to argue with me and told me to go to the empty register and wait for the cashier to return. I laughed at him and said no thanks will go to the occupied register. Now he wanted to argue with me and just ignored him but did not turn my back to him. Company needs to put that kind of attitude in check read more

The store itself seemed pretty clean and organized. Came in looking for a couple things. One of them being tissues. I just needed a store brand, which they did not have. Only name brand paper products were available. They should have more options available, especially with the cost of things these days. The parking lot was also crowded and I had to park far away (near the Marshalls). read more

If you are looking for a market that has no personal service and very low in attitude that this particular Smart and Final is for you. There was a time when cashiers would bag your groceries, then you either buy a plastic bag for 10 cents or bring your own bag and then you would have to bag your own groceries by yourself. It doesn't matter if you hold up the line because you are bagging your groceries, the cashier will just watch and wait until you are finished. How aggravating is this!!?? If this is going to be the case for all cashiers then they might as well install self checkouts like at Target and other markets. Someone should talk to management and have them instruct their cashiers to at least smile and be a little more friendly. read more

1 star because of the disgust of what I saw. We were at the Lakewood location this past Saturday (May 13, 2023) while waiting in line on the check stand next to us there was a boy around 14 or 15 years old sneezing multiple time all over the Candy that you have near the registrar...he didn't cover his nose at all and was spraying snot juice all over those items and just laughing! The checker said nothing, so I assumed she didn't see it. When we got up to our checker I told her what I saw and that she might want to get some Lysol. Even though they are packaged he still contaminated the outside packing. That's when the checker who waited on this young man and his mom came over and said "and he was sneezing H A R D"! This means she did see it and did nothing! Perhaps she didn't want to say anything but she could have taken the initiative and sprayed some Lysol or some type of disinfectant . The gal at our check stand said she was going to get someone to do that, that's when the checker said "oh I think there's some Lysol, let me see". So the only reason this checker took action is because I basically called her out? Otherwise she herself felt there was nothing wrong with this kids action, especially when we just got over a pandemic that basically shut down the world!?!? Where are her morals? Where is her pride in her job and providing customer service? What does that say about how she feels working for your store and representing it in a positive way? I was disgusted by this kids actions and angry that his own mom didn't say something, but to realize an employee who represents your store also didn't feel compelled on her own to make a wrong right!?!? Candy is something that appeals not only to kids but adults and someone purchases one of the items that were sprayed with snot and touches that wrapper which is how most people eat a candy bar and then touches that with their bare hands they are consuming snot! Your clerks, particularly this gal should have been proactive and do something on her own, and not wait until someone called this out! read more

A decent Smart & Final on the northwest corner of Carson & Woodruff. It's a pretty big store with a vast selection of merchandise, so it's a good candidate for one-stop shopping. No club card needed. I've been quite satisfied with my visits here. Most of my visits involve purchasing produce, where the selection and quality is between satisfactory and decent. If ever I'm at Sprouts a few doors down (or up actually) and find that the produce I want isn't particularly great there, I always have Smart & Final as a backup just in case. Of course, Smart & Final does have their fair share of subpar merchandise. Although the store is pretty big, there aren't that many aisles in the store, and it's not that difficult to find what you want. However, the shelves are pretty tall, so if you're a shorty and want to get something from the top shelf, ask for help! No problems with checkout so far. The lines aren't that long, but they could use an additional cashier at the checkout stands. If you get junky mail, you'll see circular for Smart & Final every week. On some weeks, you'll see a coupon for 10% off your next shopping trip, which can be useful if you want to save a few cents/bucks. Or you can give it to the customer behind you in line so they can save more than what you would have saved. I also wanted to recognize an employee who I don't believe works there anymore, but was helpful and informative when I visited ~3 years ago. I was interested in their baseball promotion and wanted to find out more about it. As I was walking the perimeter of the store, an employee named Drake came out of the back and asked if I needed help with anything. I just told him I was hoping to find information about that promotion...nothing more. He didn't know the answer, but seriously went above and beyond to find it for me. That included walking all the way to the front of the store, asking the cashiers/baggers there, and even calling his manager from the back of the store to inform me of the details. I visited again 3 days later, and he followed up with me asking if everything worked out. Ultimately, I told him I decided not to go for it since it would have involved purchasing four items that I had absolutely no need for. So I ended up wasting 10-15 minutes of his time when he probably should have been stocking shelves instead. However, he was a pretty good sport about it! read more

It's been a while since I've been shopping at this store and I don't automatically think of it when I want and need things, but I found myself here the other day & and pleasantly surprised at all the options. They have so many ready-made freezer items and more choices than my chosen warehouse store. I'm a creature of habit and frequent my regular stores, but I've now decided I'm going to put this spot on my rotation. They have the good churros (supposedly the same ones Disneyland sells, but don't quote me on that) you can just air fry and also onion rings you can pop in the air fryer or oven. I don't frequent SaF very often- usually only when we're getting ready for a party. I find that they sell things like plastic cutlery, napkins, plates etc in large but not ridiculously large quantities (Costco, I am referring to Costco) for a decent price. On this visit I was able to buy forks for my son's party as well as empty jam jars in a large pack (getting ready to make homemade Christmas gifts). Jars were on sale and the forks very reasonable. Employees here are fine- helpful but not super friendly. All in all a successful trip with decent service and easy on the wallet. read more

I find myself wandering through the aisles of Smart & Final whenever I get into a food rut. I tend to get inspired among the Mayo barrels or the 5 gallon vat of oil. They are like a small Costco, mostly geared towards the after school YMCA fundraisers and the Office Manager in need of 1,004 Styrofoam cups and giant can of yuban. You don't have to pay a membership to attend this freak show and you can even sign up for a frequent freak show visitor program to save some more money. Last time I was there I believe I fell victim to the Ramona's burritos and the Smiley face fries. I didn't have to pay extra for the exorbitant amount of sodium either...score! I always wanted to know why it is called Smart & Final, so I looked it up for this extremely Useful Yelp review....In 1914, J.S. "Jim" Smart, a banker from Saginaw, Michigan, and H.D. I would like to give you all a heads up re: online ordering from Smart & Final on woodruff..... on 4/13 & again today 4/20 We placed an order on the S&F website and upon delivery we were charged for but shorted items. I understand during these trying times, mistakes can and will be made, no worries... but when we call S&F & spoke with service manager Kim O. ( who was severely lacking people skills & hung up on us) We were told to contact 'Shipt' even tho we didn't choose method of delivery, THEY DID, we tried calling Shipt... and they are not taking calls, referred back to Smart & Final...now we are in the process of initiating a 'live chat with someone.. When ordering from the website we are charged $6 by Smart & Final to process the order & then on the receipt we are charged $4.99 by Shipt... When the order is delivered, it is dropped at the door & our digital receipt is not available to review for hours! So we just thought the items may be out of stock, no problem... but after reviewing the digital receipt hours later and seeing charges for pricey items not received... and being hung up on is unacceptable! I understand they are on the frontline & I myself have been in customer service for 15 yrs... this is frustrating & I hope none of you or you parents/grandparents ever get ripped off like this... First time here to this store and my last. Cashier was verbally irritated that we had placed our items on the belt without noticing the "10 or less ITEM" sign. "This is 10 items or less line. You are in the wrong line" she bellowed. We apologized and were ready to move to a different line and explained that we didn't see the sign. "Just stay there you have already emptied your cart" she continued visibly irritated. Right then a noise happened next to us and we turned around startled. A wirey looking guy had slammed 2 - 12 pack sodas cases down next to our items. Cashier immediately said to him. "Sir I'll take you next". WTH we were shocked. The child man left in a huff...she starts to ring our stuff up and proceeds with telling us "that's one of the many reasons you shouldn't be in this line"....I told her loudly "Really?! Just went in and I had all five women working telling me I was wrong about a sale listed in the ad. They then went on to say that the cashier had told me about the discrepancy before I purchased my items, after seeing my receipt I proceeded to make a return but even the manager lied and told me it was against state law. I eventually got an exchange but not before I had one lady working say "if it were up to me I'd kick you out". This is the worst representation of service and am disgusted by the attitude of all the women I encountered. If there was just one competent person there I would've had a no problem but from the top down it is was a disaster, them making a scene while I simply wanted a return but would gladly compromise for an exchange. I got my exchange but just felt like really nasty, like why bother with all hassle, and lying... Never crowded. But for some reason it always takes long to check out. If you are lucky these guys usually have 2 registers open with about six people waiting in each line. Needless to say, many violating the 10 item or less express lane rule, when all you are picking up is a gallon of milk and ice cream. Just to add insult to injury, ten minutes later when you are next in line, they open another register and fail to take the next person in line....you. So everyone at the back of the line gets out before you do. And you're stuck watching someone's grandmother count her nickels at the checkout. Never Fails. I really need to stop coming here. In fact, unless S&F starts assigning me my own personal "fetch" person, I can't see being a regular at this place, and-or they best not say anything when I hi-jack a ladder and start dropping things from great heights into my basket. Okay, so the good news? You can get 10 pounds of chicken, or a pack of a pound of chicken. I mean, they have the selection of items for a family of 12 or for an apartment of 2. The prices... on my staple Smart and Final items, has gone up. I suppose I'll wait till you die hards pay for the remodel and when they drop the prices down again, I'll swoop in for my chicken broth and pre-minced garlic jar. Adapt or stop shopping... Whenever I think of Smart and Final I always think of them as being a specialty errand store. Great for some professional cooking supplies, party goods and anything you may need in bulk that is food related this is your spot. Everything else I find to be a bit generic with First Street goods lining the aisles and a wide variety of random items. They have a decent fruit and vegetables area and frozen cases but nothing is so impressive that it would divert me from a Target or Fresh & Easy. I own a business and have been in the customer satisfaction for over 25 years. I buy product by the cases. This was my second time at this location and both times I never received a phone call letting my know my product was in, both times they said they would call me when my order was ready. My first review and sadly it has to be a bad one. Ive been to this smart and final a couple times. They have a good selection. Decent prices on butter, flour, and powder sugar, i bake alot and on a budget. but their customer service sucks. It all started right when I walked in I stopped right in the middle of the door as waited for my boyfriend to catch up. One of the workers, was putting away the shopping baskets when she mention that they currently werent accepting EBT. I was confused as to whom she was talking to but she looks me straight in the eye and once again mention that they werent accepting EBT. Surely she couldnt have been talking to me. I mean yea I just got off work and was in work attire. But yes, she was talking to me. She must have noticed that I had a confused look on my face because for the third time she mention EBT. I told her I didnt have EBT. She responded with "im just saying" I was in shocked. Did she just assume I was on welfare because of my clothes? Either way I was greatly offended. If you don't want to deal with the big box stores, this Smart and Final is the place go go. The employees are helpful and courteous. A good selection of produce. Was surprised to find all the ingredients I needed to make a Filipino dish my father revised "Kilawayan Papaya - sauerkraut style." No more rushing from one grocery store to another to get those items. The biggest reason that makes me drive to this Smart and Final is the rotisserie chicken! Their chicken wins hands down from the freshness of the chicken to the succulent taste of the meat and skin! I don't know what it is but must be the seasoning. I can say I even like this chicken more than El Pollo Loco. You can reheat their chicken and it doesn't have that rubbery feel that El Pollo does.
