I came here recently and ordered a Chocolate Horchata Latte, something I've never seen on a menu before. I placed the order online and came for pickup. When I came in, the place was pretty full of people, which was surprising to me as I haven't heard much about this place before. There was only one person working so service was a little slower, but he was definitely friendly and working as fast as he could. The whole place had a cozy vibe, with unique decor that sets itself apart from the typical hipster coffee shops you typically see. They had a couple arcade machines in the back, though I wasn't sure if they worked or not. As their store name is coffee cakes, I do regret not getting a coffee cake. Saw this place on social media and decided to try it b/c it's close to my house. It's a cute lil spot on the corner of Bellflower and Del Amo. I ordered the Biscoff Coffee Cake which was delicious and huge, the buttermilk coffee cakes which my husband said would've been perfect minus the nuts. There should be notice/label that it has nuts; b/c when looking at it you cannot tell and I wouldn't equate Buttermilk with nuts. So this can be a serious hazard for folks with a nut allergy. Lastly, I ordered a cookies n cream latte...this was my least favorite. There's ample parking. A fair amount of indoor seating, the atmosphere has an Old School R & B and Rap motif, with many murals of iconic figures. This is a great little coffee shop / bakery! The shop has a cool vibe, at first we were saying it is like being in the club but that's not right. It's more like being in the VIP room at the club where everybody is chill and you can relax and have a good time :) We both ordered Flat Whites which were good and the perfect drinking temp. Not burning hot like some shops make. Don't get me wrong they were nice and hot just not "well I gotta wait 20 minutes to drink this" hot. LOL But for me the star is the cakes!! So I have to thank TikTok for putting me on to this coffee shop. I went on a Saturday morning , it was pretty chill. I love the vibe of the coffee shop & and the good music playing. So I ordered the fan favorite iced coffee cake latte & vanilla walnut coffee cake 10/10 for both The latte was strong in flavor not just the coffee cake flavor but coffee also. There was also a lot of option for coffees and lattes. The vanilla coffee cake was light and flavorful and tasty. They also have a blueberry coffee cake that I'd like to go back and try. So it is a little pricey I think it 17 dollars. But 100 percent worth it . I think it's always worth it to spend the extra dollar for local businesses but to each its own. This spot is located in a plaza so there's plenty of parking. I've been on a cookie butter/Biscoff cookie latte hunt and this one by far reigns supreme if you're in the Long Beach area. That is exactly what I ordered a cookie butter latte. Coffee was strong, and you could still taste the cookie butter flavors, which also comes with cookie butter crumbles on the top. Parking is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. As I walked in the lady in a green sweatshirt that was at the register that day walked away. So that was not a good start. A young lady helped me and was really sweet. I left a small tip and she actually thanked me. Most places don't even acknowledge it. I ordered the biscoff late. The lid was a little inconvenient because when I pushed on the top to take a drink the cold foam splattered on me. The coffee itself was pretty good. As part of my "75 Whimsy Summer," I've been making a point to visit more local mom-and-pop coffee shops, and today I stumbled across Coffee Cakes. What a delightful surprise. The moment I walked in, I knew I had found something special. A kind gentleman held the door open as I arrived, a local artist was painting beautiful faces on a mural, and the music set the perfect mood. The artwork throughout the shop was stunning, the aroma was heavenly, and I was greeted immediately by a warm and welcoming staff. My first time I visited, they disclaimed yes they are on the sweeter side of coffee shops, but they can always make your drinks stronger or sweeter however you like. I live nowhere near Lakewood and discovered this place in my yearly tamale hunt that led me to Lakewood. Kinda mad at Yelp for leading me to such a good place that is so far away. Hit this place up on a Saturday following its very high Yelp rating. I was a little overwhelmed by the menu and the barista kept leading me to the cookie butter latte but I wasn't swayed. I always try a banana latte if they have one and I also went with a safe choice - an horchata latte. I had both iced and with oat milk. This was the best banana latte I have had to date. If you've ever had one, you know they are a hit or miss because the syrup can have a chemical like taste to it. This latte left me wanting another one when I went for my final tamale haul. As for the horchata latte, it did not disappoint but the star was the banana latte. As the menu provides many options, take your time researching your drink so you don't feel overwhelmed like me. I did not have any of the pastries. I went back two weeks later when I picked up my Christmas tamales and the baristas had called out so the owner was making the drinks. While his aesthetic touch to the drinks was on point, surprisingly, his baristas made better drinks. I'm not deducting any stars for that but I will say I was disappointed my drinks weren't as great. So, sir, protect those baristas at all costs because they make some damn delicious drinks. If I'm ever back out that way, I will definitely pop back in and hope the regular baristas are on bar. This gem is in a small stip mall and parking is ample. As you can see from the pictures, the inside is very cute and that little coffee sign pictured is just too adorable. Of note, this place was voted as the best coffee place in Lakewood (the owner pointed this out). Highly recommend that if you live near this place, you get your fix here. read more

Walking in, the place is really nice -- clean, artsy, and filled with artwork and paintings of rappers, which is a cool touch. Seating-wise, though, this spot is definitely for parties of two. There are no big tables, and only one table that seats four, so it's not ideal for groups. At first, it tasted more like caramel than Biscoff -- not gonna lie. Still really good though. And the longer it sat, the more Biscoff flavor came through, so I fully take back my initial complaint. My boyfriend got the coffee cake iced latte, which I think tastes like the crumbly topping on coffee cake. His review: "I don't know what it tastes like, but it's really good." Fair enough. This morning we woke up and jumped on Yelp looking for a new black owned coffee cafe to try. We have only been on the Cali scene for a few months, but find a 2 for 1 coffee spot have been hit or mess. What do I mean by 2 for 1? Great food/coffee and experience. Today, I think we found it. We drove 20 minutes for this experience and it was worth it. Seriously, if you're looking for a cozy little place to grab coffee and a treat, this is it! I tried their coffee cake iced latte and the minty white mocha hot both were absolutely delicious. Try all of the cakes. I don't think you can go wrong with your choice. The slices are massive. Okay, now that I've acknowledged the food lets discuss the service because the service is hella important to me. The owners run the show and the service was top-notch and felt super personable. Don't be in a hurry, great barista skills takes time. You should definitely check it out if you're in the area. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed morning or mid day pick-me-up. It was around 10:30am, not busy at all--just one guy working the register--so I figured it'd be smooth. I ordered a small black drip coffee. It was $5, which made me think, "Okay, this is probably going to be good." Instead, I watched him walk over to the espresso machine and start making me an Americano. I had to stop him and clarify that I didn't order that--I just wanted regular drip coffee. He said he had it, then went into the back storage area while still talking on his earpiece to someone the entire time. No greeting, no real acknowledgment, no customer service. He came back out holding a bag of Peet's coffee and a visibly dirty glass coffee jug. At that point, I lost confidence and just said, "Forget it--make me a cappuccino." Meanwhile, he was doing everything--register, drinks, food--so I tried to be patient. But he was clearly distracted, disengaged, and more focused on whatever was happening in his ear than the actual customers in front of him. I even tried to make conversation. Nothing. After waiting about 15 minutes, he finally handed me my cappuccino... which was basically just burned hot milk. No foam. No balance. No texture. Just a watery, overheated latte that tasted awful. Completely undrinkable. I ended up dumping it on the sidewalk next to the trash because it was that bad. Waste of time, waste of money, and I was late to my appointment because of it. Good coffee is one thing--but basic attentiveness, cleanliness, and customer service matter just as much. Unfortunately, this place missed all three. read more
